It was very blah! for me... ahem did he fly her up onto an icy ledge looking out into a shimmering city of white, blazing crystal? NO!!!
Did he make the ring himself using his bare hands to mold coal into a diamond, which usually takes millions of years? NO!!!!
He had a butt-load of flowers and a big ring that yelled gauty to me.
I think lexana is okay and I'm not a clana fan... it was just cliche.

I can usually tolerate Lexana, but that proposal was kinda... flat. We all know Lex didn't put those roses and candles there, he had one of his workers do it for him.
We didn't even get the answer.

Yeah, I kind of remember flowers being at the mansion alot. I think. Maybe it is other shows. I don't remember, but it seems to be on TV the 'I Love You' Show for Millionaire playboys-fill up a gigantic room with enough flowers to send 99% of the population into a severe allergy attack. And then the ring... At least 5-10 carats. (I was disapointed it wasn't in a champagne glass-I know she is pregnant or didn't come down from the ceiling with some Elvis Impersinater singing ' Can't Help Falling in Love With You'' or he didn't have the NY Philharmonic playing-maybe they were booked.)

I was breathless...from yelling at my tv for having to sit through the Lex and Lana show when I thought I was supposed to be watching in episode about Martian Manhunter!
I don't hate Lexana but I don't care enough about it for it to dominate an episode.

Oh wait, what's the thread about again? Lexana. Right.

I finally figured out why we were supposed to be breathless during the last five minutes. Because the Clark/Batista fight lasted all of five seconds, that freed up a lot of the budget for them to bring in all of those flowers, which were breathtaking to look at...get it?

It wasn't bad - just very....floral. It was a lot of flipping roses- I was half expecting to see a bennedrill or some other alergy releaving product commercial after. Maybe I'm just being too picky, I expected more from Lex - like a garden - like in the movie/book The Secret Garden (am I showing my age too much?) and propose there or I don't know - a newly acquired Hawaiian Island....

I think that would have been a more compelling cliffhanger for sure...the prospect of evil Lexana going after Clark's secret! two spurned lovers out for revenge ;)...something more worth the "take your breath away" announcement (not to mention putting some focus back on Clark)
Instead it was more like, well it's the sixth season, we probably need to throw in a proposal and a pregnancy to keep things "fresh."

Maybe only breathless cuz I was puking so hard :)
I was anticipating a claw the walls ep, and was majorly disappointed.
Probably the most poigiant (sp?) moment was Chloe basically walking out on Clark after he said "...there are things you don't need to know." He could have been a bit more sympathetic to her concern for him....cripes! But he did look more like SUpes than ever while he was standing in the barn speaking to her.
Mostly an "eh!" ep, I hope come January they get their act together; the show is simmering, not boiling now.

How come the proposal cant take our breath away??
Lana is pregnant... THIS took more our breath away IMO. Pregnancy is a major thing. Lex has been married twice (if I'm right) a third marriage isn't a big deal.
Especially when we all know how it's gonna end. Smallville is so predictable and Lana will propably loose the baby and will not get married. If they let her keep the baby and marry this is a major fault in the superman mytho. No body will accept this. It doesn't make sense.

Umm...was I the only person who thought the flowers were a whole mess of Kryptonite at first?
Because they'd just been talking about 33.1 and he's all "Then there's something you should know," so I, like a couple other people here, thought that he was going to tell her that 33.1 really did exist after all or show her the Clark Room or something and then the flowers were green and red and I was like "how did all that Kryptonite get into the library?" and then I was really confused until I saw the table with the candles on it, at which point I thought "crap, he's gonna propose, isn't he?"
And then I was left breathless from gagging.
^^
I wasn't left breathless b/c they leaked this spoiler ages ago. And Lexana doesn't make me gag, but it doesn't make my heart beat faster, either. It just is what it is. And since the girl's a broke college student and pregnant, she's gonna say 'yes'. What else can Lana do?

I find it amusing how few people have mentioned the engagement ring, and it's worth mentioning! I mean, not to big but not to small, just a right size for someone whose fingers are slim, like Lana's are! Also it's in white gold, perhaps even platinum which is always easy to combine with other jewelry! Yellow and red gold can be so difficult at times! Also, the design it's self is very elegant, simple with the big stone in the middle and little ones on the side, not to mention that the stone itself has a really nice cut and clear color!
I have got to say it, Lex is an evil meany, but he is an evil meany with excuisite taste!

One poster said that they maybe are turning Lana into the contessa a woman that gave Lex a child on comics and was pretty much his equal in her ideas of evilness. So it might be an adaptation to an already known myth there is also the new continuity in wich Lana is Lexcorp administrator and we still don´t know how close are they so maybe in the new continuity Lex will have a female counterpart and none other that Superman's first girlfriend...If only he knew.

Does snoring count as breathless becuase this if it doesthen put down a lot of people. This episode and season has been a big let down. Im cool with Clark being alone as that is part of his journey but him getting his butt kicked each week makes no sense. The myth of Superman is being destroyed. Hello worlds greatest hero mean anything. Clark better hope Darkwing Duck, Scooby doo or Ant man show up so they can save him from the next villain.

this is called bad television. only a true smallville fan would call it for what it is. tv is a funny thing like that. once the damage is done, it's like all the other seasons take a hit and look bad, too.

Lol, peoples reactions to the proposal are so damn funny! I for one, couldn't help but compare the Clana and Lexana proposals. The former was essentially ripped off from the movie and the latter was spectacularly umimaginative. However, at least the Clana proposal was romantic (if I may use that word) despite its cheesiness. The Lexana one was, well, blah.
paolinki25
11-21-2006, 07:14 PM
Actually the only thing that annoyed me about the Lexana proposal was the sparkling music and the amount of roses. Other that, it was very dark and typical Luthor. I like the fact he didn't get down on one knee.
Clana proposal shouldn't have happened in the first place, so I didn't care much about it.

I think most people just  and want to get back to the other parts of the show. IMO
Gough was left breathless. He was thinking to himself, "I can't believe after all of the planning for this clexana triangle we finally got to the point where Lex proposes. I've had dreams about this every night for the past 5 years and finally, finally it's a reality and the fans are going to love it. Luckily for them, they will get plenty of scenes of happy lexana during the second half of season 6 since that is our major arc of the season." Gough then breaks out into tears as he starts to plan another huge love triangle for season 7.

Well, you know what they say: Turd time's da charm. And this wedding will have turd footprints all over it.
I wonder if Henry Small or Nell will show up when the priest asks if anyone objects to them getting married.
The only thing I want to see that's related to this, but where a proposal and wedding WERE NOT needed was Helen Bryce showing up to warn Lana and Lex would then take care of her. I think this is the perfect time for them to wrap up the whereabouts of Helen, though I doubt they'll do it.

This raises a question if there is a wedding who will deliver Lana? I mean Henry Small is MIA like almost of the SV parent's (watch out Lionel!) and I doubt he gaves this chance at the MB or Nell's boyfriend...So the girl doesn't have a daddy like figure to deliver her.

The former was essentially ripped off from the movie and the latter was spectacularly umimaginative. However, at least the Clana proposal was romantic (if I may use that word) despite its cheesiness. The Lexana one was, well, blah.
i agree...lex didn`t even went on his knees for lana
ooh my god,if they get married then this marriage is doomed to fail

To be fair, Lex couldn't get down on his knees because he burned them out from struggling to get up after he got beaten around by everyone and everything on this show.

The return of Helen sounds good and Lex taking revenge. :D I always hoped they would bring her back and the actress doesn't seem to be too busy. Unfortunately, they probably won't remember about Helen.

She may be my favorite actress the show ever had. She is also incredibly hot.

Wouldn't a doctor (one that hasn't been killed by a Luthor) deliver her baby?

I'm no fan of Clana or anything in Reckoning, but how was the proposal a rip-off of the movie? Which movie? I don't remember Superman proposing to Lois in the movie. I remember in the 2nd Reeve movie, he gave up his powers to be with Lois, but I don't remember if they got married.

The lighting in the room or something made it hard to tell what the room was full of at first. Then when I realized it was flowers I felt they were not shown in a way that was to their best advantage. The ring looked like it was in a large thimble and I thought at first it was some secret Lex was going to share about his experiments since he said he had something to show her before they entered the room. It seemed overdone and not as tasteful as I think Lex could have been.
I'm still wondering if Helen has been taken care of or if Lex is still married. Could be very interesting Lexana if Helen was still involved. Imagine Lex trying to take back his proposal or make some kind of excuse for not being able to marry Lana because of unfinished business with Helen, or, perhaps marrying her intending to handle Helen before Lana found out. Seeing as how it has become so soap opera like anyway...

In Superman III, Clark gets a piece of coal and crushes it to form a diamond and then proposes to Lana Lang. Some call it a tribute and I suppose that's not unreasonable. However, since they borrow so often from the movies, I tend to think of it more as a rip-off. Take the whole 'reversing time' bit - happened in the movie with Lois and SV did it with Lana.
^^ I thought he gave her the ring to replace the diamond ring she'd lost? I don't remember an actual proposal? In fact, I thought that Lana goes to work for the DP at the end of the movie & one of the last scenes is Clark introducing Lana and Lois to each other. I don't remember him proposing, though?

It was exaclty like that Lana lost her diamond ring and Clark wanted to do something nice for her so he made a diamond out of coal but the ring felt and he got it and gave it to him still on his knees at that moment Lois entered the room and it looked like a proposal... I wish it would had been like that in SV not a real proposal :(

Actually, it wasn't Lois the one who entered the room. I'm pretty sure it was Lana's boyfriend/husband, can't remember his name tho.

I stand corrected about the proposal in the movie. However, you can see why I think the Reckoning proposal was a rip-off.

AGREED. I do believe the last five minutes left me choking on my own vomit. That was gross and not to mention hardly romantic. He didn't even seem that enthusiastic about it. What was he gonna do if things didn't go "as planned"? That woulda been a lot of flowers to clean up.

Besides Aloof, does anyone care about Lexana? What a waste of the last 5 minutes. What made me mad is that it didn't occur in the middle of the episode because that would have allowed for a longer bathroom break. This baby, proposal stuff has made Smallville nearly unwatchable. Clark is becoming an afterthought.
New superpower, Clark super HURLS. Why should he be amune to Lexana? He eats doesn't he?:(

No.It was not surprising or original. Most shows at some point end up with some kind of proposal or wedding, or pregnency. It's what the writers do with this development that will either raise the bar for storytelling or sink the show into bland mediocrity. Personally I'm more interested in the Justice storyline.
