Hey there. I thought it would be interesting to have a thread about children's books - you know, those stories that left an impression on us when we were kids and still do...so tell us (no matter how old you are) what children/young adult book(s) are must haves in your book collection.

Some of my favorite books are: The Snowy Day, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Temporary Times Temporary Places, Holes, Walk Two Moons (my younger sister recommended this one to me, it's a great read), and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Have any of you read (or heard of) these books? I'd be interested in discussing them as well as reading and talking about some of your faves. :)

The Hungry Caterpiller, Fungus the Bogeyman, any Roald Dahl book. Also read the Fleming Bond books when I was about 10 so they'd count if To Kill a Mockingbird does (which is the only one of yours I'm aware of to be honest).

Through school, biggest impressions came from Jane Eyre, Shakespeare and classic poets like Tennyson and Wordsworth.

I certainly read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" when I was little. I tried to read "The Great Glass Elevator" afterwards, but never found time to finish it...
I fell in love with "The Tell Tale Heart" by Poe in sixth grade, it wasn't until high school that I understood "The Raven"...

Well, I counted "To Kill a Mockingbird" because I had to read it in 8th grade. I didn't get a word of it until I read it again in high school though. LoL

Pretty much anything goes - if you read it in your youth - I was just curious about what my fellow K-Site viewers used to (perhaps still do) read... Thanks for your submissions so far, everyone!

--->Oh, and I have to say, "Is Your Mama a Llama?" sounds really familiar... I'm going to have to look that up.

Oh yeah! How could I have forgotten the goosebumps books! I still have a bunch of them on my bookshelf. I especially enjoyed those "choose your own ending" versions of the series.

I also like the Hardy Boys series (I haven't read them all, of course, but I think they're good reads...)

Hardy Boys, Encyclopedia Brown, Choose your own adventure books, A Light in the Attic, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and there was one about something that made waffles. Cannot remember the title now.

Where the Wild Thing Are was awesome too.

...yeah, me too. I didn't start reading Hardy Boys until high school, so I'm a fairly recent fan. I guess they just bring out the youthful sleuth in me. LoL, geeze I made myself sound old there. I'm only 21!
