View Full Version : No Thanksgiving love for Chloe's dad Gabe?

Shouldn't Chloe have been having Thanksgiving with her very much alive and normal father Gabe Sullivan? And probably living with him rather than in Lois' tiny apartment, since we've never had any indication he moved away from Smallville?
I realize it makes things easier/more dramatic, but we just get no explanation for why Chloe's dad has dropped out of her life. He wasn't written out of the show- he just vanished without a trace. At least the other dropped characters had some reason for being out of Smallville, if not out of the characters' lives.
I guess Gabe spent Thanksgiving with General Lane, Henry Small, Aunt Nell, Lucas Luthor, and of course Shelby.

haha that must be it...Lex saved Chloe, whose testimony he needed, but not his former plant manager Gabe, whose was no longer useful :p
but then that would beg the question of where Chloe lived her senior year of high school...
but kidding aside, they showed Gabe escaping the explosion through Lex's tunnel at the beginning of Season 4, and then he ceased to exist.
I'd love to see him back for 1 eppy just to show him gushing about his daughter being at the daily planet or just to vist martha or something. Edited to add I'd also like to know how Pete's doing.

Hey, you know once she learned Clark's secret he became her god. Like she'd choose her dad over him. <.<

Yeah, even Jimmy, while offscreen, was having Thanksgiving with his mom, who we've never met, but no mention of Chloe's dad, who has been in a few episodes.
Along with most people, I was pleased with the continuity of the offscreen references to Jimmy this ep, so how hard would it be for the writers to have Clark and Chloe mention that Pete, in fact, existed during the first 3 seasons? Even if just to say that he went to college in California or something.
I think there have been 2 mentions of him since he left, Martha saying Pete and Chloe found out and didn't hate Clark, and Chloe being jealous Pete saw the spaceship.

That's just not how TV shows work... but SV seems to get hit hard for doing what TV shows have been doing forever...

I think she made a mention about him in Jinx when she talked about her college fund.

To what are you referring? Dropping and forgetting about characters?
Don't get me wrong, I still love SV, it was just bugging me that Chloe doesn't live at her own house where Lana used to live with her. It's not like her dad moved like Nell (either 3 hours or 15 minutes away to Metropolis ;) ).
I think it's a compliment to a show that people would care about it enough to wonder about this sort of thing. :)

ooh good memory there.
in that case, ol' Gabe was remembered for 5 more episodes than I had thought. ;)
and his continued existence was implied by Chloe still living at home through S4.
The only times I thought his absence was a real issue were when Chloe moved in with Lois and the Thanksgiving dinner.
I wonder if poor Gabe ever did get a job? Since Chloe and Lionel seem to be on good terms now, maybe she could get Lionel to remove that pesky blacklisting. :p

I was thinking that along with Lana's aunt. Or did she leave?

Didn't you know that Gabe fell into the SV black hole of forgotten characters somewhere around S4?

No, minor characters being offscreen and thus not referred to as much if at all.

It is ridiculous that they haven't even spent 5 seconds to address what happened to Gabe since Jinx when Chloe told Myx that her father was still unemployed.
If Chloe had just told Clark that her dad had to move far away for a job it would be dealt with once and for all. They finally remembered Nell last Christmas, maybe they'll eventually remember to address what happened to Gabe.

That's because Gabe hooked up with Aunt Nell, who then later cheated on Gabe with Henry Small. General Lane is involved in this as well, but we won't know the extent of it until season 11. That's the major arc for that season.

:rotfl: At the house of the forgotten to die a horribly obscure "no more lines for you in Smallville" death.

Yeah, when I saw Chloe there I was all "where the hell is Gabe?" He really is just in that black hole with all the other forgotten characters, isn't he? *shakes head* sometimes I think Smallville has some of the worst contuinity keepers of any show out there (or possibly ever!).
Sheesh!
Yeah, all she had to do was freakin' mention him!

What about Martha's father? Why doesn't he come to stay with them now that poor Jonathan is pushing up the daisies?

OMG, I totally forgot about him! Yeah, where was he at the funeral or after? Surely he'd want to come to
a.) gloat
b.) console his only daughter
c.) offer to take Martha away from the hick farm town now that her husband is dead and what the heck is keeping her there anyway, she should be back in Meropolis because only the best for his little girl? ( )
d.) all of the above

In an interview with Al (I think Craig actually did it tbh), Gabe and Nell were brought up as to why they weren't mentioned and Al admitted they plain forgot about Gabe. Sad.
At least with Pete and Nell we at least know where they are.
We have no clue what Gabe is doing or where he is living.
Also a burning question that is on my mind is:
WHERE IN THE WORLD IS SHELBY? I hope they address this issue at some point.

Thanks. I always wanted to see more scenes between Clark and him.
I wonder if Martha's mother is still around? Or Jonathan's mother (we saw her in the Relic flashback)?

Gabe, Henry, Lucas Luthor and Pete are having a boys' night out ... watching the annual Met U.-Gotham U. Thanksgiving gridiron clash.
A daughter at the Planet, what daughter? Half-brother Lex, who? Biological daughter Lana -- huh? My best pal, Clark ... who? They don't care ... they've got some cold ones in the mini-fridge, the pizza's on its way and the Grand Re-opening of the Windgate Club is only three hours away.
If they're stuck in the land of the forgotten, they may as well live large. I wish 'em well.
