It's nice that they try to touch on reality a little, but it doesn't seem to be a serious enough message about addiction.

Well, and they are using the addiction for all the wrong reasons. Lana was addicted just so that she can see her dead parents, and Arrow is using it to heal faster.

Wasn't there one in Season 4 as well?

comic books have always dealt with addiction once in a while.

Most famous one, I think, is Spider-Man encountering the high guy who thinks he can fly.

For that one episode it was. He knew what it did to him, and used it to push away everything that happened in the real world... sounds like a user to me...
