View Full Version : Asmore's horrid scene with Lex

This was mistake to match a novice actor(asmore) with a smallville vet like michael. He seemed so idiotic and uncomfortable, I could barely watch. Lex was brilliant, and acted the scene as if he was pissed to even interact with jimmy. If acting like a moron/clod was asmore's goal, he pulled it off perfectly.

Actually, I think acting dorky and uncomfortable is what he was aiming to do.

I LOVED this scene. Lex was such a pompus a**! I love that Jimmy is completely NOT on the same wavelength as Lex and doesn't want to be. I like that he pulled a fast one on Lex. Arrogance...not always an asset.

I think he was supposed to act like that. You would have to be idiotic in real life to go up to someone in Lex Luthor's position and show him pictures that you took of him of something that might be illegal. Like going up to a member of the mafia and showing him a picture of a drug deal taking place in his car and than asking for a comment? not realizing that he could end up in the river? Smallville does have a river, right?

I totally agree with the op this scene was done horribly. I don't know if it was the dialogue or the actors interaction, but it didn't flow right.

yea I actually liked lex interaction wit jimmy,it seemed alil MBish not quite lionel MBish but sumwhat mean.He showed that he doesn't care for any of the others besides lana, cause he even says he only took the meetin since chloe is good friends wit lana. But lex has never cared for chloe(Look at his reaction in thirst before he hears about lana),so jimmy comin at lex that way I wasn't suprise by lex response. It was a nice touch imo :D

agree he finally seemed in control in that scene, all his others he seems like a victim to me.So it was good to see lex act this way shows he doesn't care for clark/chloe or anyone but that box/lana

I agree the scene was just awful. The scene with Clark and the guy in the hospital didn't go either. I think the CW has hacked the Smallville budget a little too much.

Bah! This was a great scene. Jimmy is a dork in everything he does. It is not a bad thing, it is just him. He is funny and quirky. And I am sure we will see some more serious moments in the future from Jimmy, but you better get used to him being what he is. He will always be like this.

That uncomfortable feeling you got, was produced by excellent writing and excellent acting.
Jimmy olsen is never smooth.
He was scared, uncomfortable, and totally out of his league in lex's home.
The scene was pure gold superman mythology.
I loved it.

i loved jimmys character builtup in this episode. CLEARLY showed what he'll become later on, if lex is concerned about him so early in his life to get him fired, hes definitely a big BIG character in the superman story. and ofcourse he's clumsy overall, agreed he's book smart and all, but he's just not street smart and it clearly showed in today's episode why hed never take clark and loi's place in DP.

That was my favourite scene of the episode. It was classic Jimmy and Lex was perfect. You really got the feeling that JO was well outside his league and yet he managed to get away with some pics. That dorky grin as he was being 'escorted' out of the room was priceless. This is the first time I have liked Jimmy. Also loved Lex's dig about Chloe 'finally getting a boyfriend.

The thoughts was going through my mind when Jimmy went to Lex of all people "You idiot"

If I went to anybody, I'd go to Clark, Martha, back to Chloe I'll even go to Lionel but never would go to Lex or Lana. You'll have to be insane or suicidal to go to those last two people with that type pictures you took.

The Jimmy Olsen character is always over the top sillyness/Opie Cunningham/White Bread/Simpleton. That is the appeal of Jimmy Olsen. That is why Jimmy Olsen and clark kent get along so well. They sit at the nerd table. I love it.

I liked this scene. It was just interesting to see how Lex just didn't answer Jimmy, then laughs it off and threatens him with his life if he tries it again. So Jimmex or Lemmy?

Jimmy is goofy that is part of the character but even the comic book jimmy would not start trying to give himself a Pulizer for taking a few pics.

Did anyone else see AA almost grab AM's butt at the bottom of the stairs in the Daily Planet. Maybe I am just seeing things but that is what it looked like to me.

Yeah, that kind of threw me for a loop. Jimmy was awfully reckless waving those photographs under Lex's nose. He endangered not only himself, but Lana and Grohl.

I agree! I think the actor did a wonderful job, playing a photographer, who is still wet behind his ears, green as the grass in 'The Sound of Music', basically making a rookie idiotic mistake of showing his hand to someone like Lex who is playing in the big leagues!
And Lex' response was perfect, someone as mastermindfully evil as Lex is, would naturaly feel insulted by having to deal with a rookie like Jimmy! I mean sending Jimmy to confront him, Chloe what were you thinking, she should have stopped Jimmy, or dealt with it herself?..........Again what was she thinking?

The whole scene was just for that effect, it was sort of like Jimmy knows what a player and how powerful Lex or the Luthors in general are, and he was just a lowly intern. It played out like a freshman trying to talk to the dean of a collage, nervous and squrmy in his seat, totally like a fish out of water.

It actually showed Ashmores acting ability quite well.

Jimmy was being very 'Jimmy Olsenish' in that scene and Lex was being very 'Lex Luthorish'. Why can't they do more scenes with Lex like this? Oh, that's right, because all of his screentime must be spent with Lana and her problems. Anyway, it was one of the better scenes in the episode.

I agree as far as the lex/jimmy scene AA played jimmy the best possible,it was typical jimmy imo. That's one of the few things I applaud sv jimmy for,as far as the JO persona he pulls it off perfect, its jus love interest jimmy that needs work. But the scene wit lex was great for the jimmy character

Unfortunately, there are many (including myself) who as a result of this.....will consider Jimmy quite simply....the "Idiot". How big that number is in relation to this show is anybodys guess.....but it ain't small that's for sure. "Pure Gold Jimmy Olson"..... not from where "some" of us are standing. That much is sure.

I didn't have a problem with the scene. It showed Lex as becoming more and more of a ruthless, corrupted business type of person- a man not to be trifled with. Jimmy was shown to be a kid who has much to learn. I didn't look at Jimmy as an idiot but as a young journalist who has much to learn.

I agree 100%. This is exactly how I interpreted it.

Look at Lex's behavior in this scene. He is more snobbish and aristocratic than ever.

He said himself that he only let him come here because Lana knows Chloe and Jimmy is dating Chloe so he got permission to get in his mansion. So why would someone like him show any respect to a novice reporter. MR was perfect.

AA as Jimmy was perfect too. He showed nervousness as well as confidence all at the same time. He is so proud when he secretly takes the picture. I loved him. This is the comic book JO. He is naive and simple but determined all at the same time.

I think Chloe can teach him something by telling him about her horrid experience when she got caught in the Luthors' web.

And I also loved how purely and simply he displays his affections for Chloe. I think for the first time Chloe has someone who cares for her this much.

I have to say that, in my view, Lex trying to get Jimmy fired was sad and pathetic, the mighty Lex Luthor, first tries to put a KID in his place and lets the kid take a picture before he gets kicked out, throws a sad threat too, as if the REAL Lex would even bother to threaten an ant, then tries to ge him fired and fails !

Oh, twas a sad spectacle indeed.

^^ Um, getting the guy fired just because he asked Lex a question? Yeah, that ruthless. The old Lex (of seasons past) probably would have let it slide. I see this as a step in the right direction for his character. That he crushes whatever little bug bothers him, with a smile on his face? That's Lex & I don't have low expectations of him. I think MR's Lex is the second best Lex I've seen. (After the JLU version.)

He didn't get him fired, just demoted.
He broke the first rule of ruthlessness:
Never underestimate your opponent - he allowed a person with a camera into his office and didn't even see him take a picture of a confidential document.
He tried, in vain ( Jimmy's smirk) to intimidate a KID.

Ruthless?

Dude, ruthless is findin where Jimmy lives, burn it down, kill and eat his dog, put his mother into sexual servitude, makes his father a living organ donor and THEN get nasty !

Lex isn't completely evil, yet -- this was just another stepping stone on his journey towards getting there. Nor would any version of Lex Luthor ever do all that... Lex is too "financial" and "business" minded in his criminal activities. He's more about being corrupt and power-hungry. What versions of Lex Luthor have you been watching/reading??!?!? Are you confusing him with Darkseid??

He got Jimmy fired & Jimmy talked the DP people into giving him the basement job. He wasn't aiming to get Jimmy demoted.

And his actions after the fact were ruthless -- he even explained to Jimmy why he wasn't being that ruthless when he let him in to his office: because Jimmy's is Chloe's boyfriend & Chloe/Lana are friends. Once Jimmy showed him that Lana betrayed him, all bets were off and he decided to go after Jimmy. For no reason except to teach Jimmy a lesson. That's my definition of ruthless -- no need to eat dogs in my world to be considered as such. But you are, of course, entitled to your opinion over what makes one a ruthless person.

Yes, this is true, my ruthlessness is unique, even amongst the other Onmipotent dark overlords.

Nevertheless, I don't see what Lex did as being Ruthless, trying to teach James a lesson, YES, ruthless? NO.
