Apparently they have been on earth. Clark said it had been six weeks since Baen was taken... and how long has Raya been there? Oh yeah... since Clark crashed back out of the phantom zone. Characters act stupid and people bash them. Characters act smart... and people bash them.

The slang thing bothered me, unless it can be played off as a result of taking a human as a host and retaining some of their memory.

Considering his speed-reading thing, he could have learned the entire English language, read the entire dictionary, and learned almost all of Earth's history in under and hour, or perhaps less than a day. Either way, it made sense.

Also Its been established that possessors' retain hosts' memories from episodes Spell and Zod. So Baern talking slang etc..was in step with continuity

Since the alien probably didn't arrive knowing English, he may have learned to speak the language by searching through the brain of whatever body he was using. So since he learned English from Bow Wow kid, he spoke it like Bow Wow kid.
