Judging from the commercials, Baern will refer to Clark as "The Last Son of Krypton"

That guy's name was Clark Kent, wasn't that the name Superman uses as his secret identity?

You've just described my first, very uninformed reaction to the first episode of Smallville I ever watched. All the previews gave away, since I only caught bits and pieces of them, was "meteorite causes freaks to spring up in Smallville and one boy uses his powers for good" or something.
"Clark Kent...Smallville...HEY WAIT! SUPERMAN!" :P

Nope, "Chloe, hot reporter, she must be there stand-in for Lois Lane since she's not in his life yet and they need a reporter angle." ;)

Raya talking to Clark about racing trains. (got a nice juicy flashback of Jeff East running in the Superman movie (and by "running", I mean "looking like he's riding an invisible bike 2 feet off the ground"))
Oh, & Brainiac!!!

Clark tried to stop Baern's attack with the palm of his hand, Superman 2 and 3.

That pose reminded me more of a picture in the comic Superman: Birthright where Supes is holding up a huge \S/ to protect a child. But I see what you're saying.

I haven't read it, but I heard that there was a Supergirl in an early (I think) 70's Superman storyline, and she was killed off "in the line of duty" really quickly. Jeph Loeb has recently resurrected the character in the Superman/Batman universe, but it has all but specifically said that she is the 2nd Supergirl. So here we have a blonde Kryptonian young woman who has been killed protecting Clark, and if we have any faith in the hinted "destiny" that is constantly referred to, there will be another Supergirl in the future.
Thats the best I could do.
Oh and Jimmy Olsen has been demoted to the job of copyboy when he really wants to be a serious photographer. Now he just needs to start wearing bow ties...

I was praying I wasn't the only one who caught that.
I kidd.
