I thought the magnificent bastard had another great performance. I still think he is working everybody in the show (Lex, Clark, Lana, Martha).
When he showed up to console Lex you could tell he was just using the incident to gain Lex's trust.
It will be a shame when he dies.

Lionel is so ambiguous in nature right now.

Yeah, it's good to have the good-old Luthor father/son moments, again...

I agree that John Glover gave yet another magnificent performance. Is he the MB though? Or is he good? Personally, I got the impression that he wasn't just trying to use the incident to gain Lex's trust. It really seemed to me like he was trying to get through to Lex, and Lex just wouldn't hear him. Did you notice the lighting as well? The director did a great job with lighting on this part because Lex's face was lit in such a way that he was almost completely masked in darkness, whereas Lionel, by contrast, was in normal lighting. If the director meant this as symbolism, it was fantastic. It may be hinting that Lionel is good, or at least not as bad, as Lex is now.
But you never know with Lionel. We'll have to wait and see, which is what makes his character so intriguing.

I think that Lionel may be seeing the future, a future where his Lex will be out of control and full of power and where Clark will have to stop him.
I don't think Lionel wants Clark and Lex to go head-to-head, because he knows that it will ruin both of them.
He really wants to save his son from himself.

I agree, Kryptonian-Ronin. I think Lionel really is trying to help right now.

Did lionel's face look extra old , extra wrinkley. Want that guy around for a long time. Are we certain that he is dying soon?

I don't know I think when he started to blame Lex for what happen to Duncan, I thought that MB had actually comeback. And not only that he kept a scrapbook full of Kryptonian symbols and hid them when Clark showed up.

Tough love dude, it was Lex's fault and Clark has shown nothing but reluctance about his kryptonian heritage.
At this point, if i was Lionel, I would probably not be "helping" Clark in that regards but letting him figure it out on his own, though I wtill would be working on getting the busted up peice of kryptonian crap that Lex has.
