hey guys, even though this might be a little off topic of smallville, i was just wonderig, since this show is about an alien, how many of you actually believe in aliens? i read, at some space museum that there are 100 million galaxies in the universe. with that, there has to be some sort of other intelligent life form out there.
state your opinions.

I agree, there is most likely other planets populated by some lifeforms. Probably sitting on there planet wondering if there is anyone else out there.

With how many other galaxies there are, there is a great chance that there are aliens. Just because we haven't seen any signs that they exist doesn't mean they don't. We haven't been able to come up with the technology to travel to different galaxies, so if they exist, then I'm guessing they haven't either.

i believe in aliens. i mean come on you cant think that god would only make earthlings. if that was true then it would suck to think the best god could do was us. if ghosts can be in a different dimension then us and exsist then aliens who most likely live in our same dimension can exsist. i have seen ghosts so im pretty sure they are real lol. i believe aliens have came to earth just we dont know it.. i dont think aliens would make themselves known. they are probably much more evolved then we are. maybe they are humans from the future and can time travel or something. maybe adam and eve were aliens that were braught to earth cause of a dying race on another planet. if you think about it an alien is just something that is not part of your world. i mean if we go to france we are aliens of france and so on. i dont think they will make theirselves known until we can accept them right now we cant. right now if we got any idea about aliens and had actual proff that everyone believes in then earth will try to control them. say we went to mars and found a real martian manhunter dude up there then every country on this planet is going to try to claim mars as its own and do tests on the martian manhunter dude like they would do on a new animal they descover in the woods. and it wouldnt be fair cause earth is ours and we have no right to take over someone elses planet.

I find the idea that only on this one planet, in the vastness of the universe, intelligent life evolved, to be highly unlikely. We are not that special, and I don't like that we as humans build ourselves up to be. So yes, I believe in aliens, it just seems logical to me.

Speak for yourself, MigardDragon. I can type 45 WPM, get to 110 lines on the Gameboy version of Tetris on any given attempt, say the alphabet forwards and backwards and I have memorized pi to 16 digits (3.141592653589793). I feel pretty darn special. :p
Seriously though, I believe that life exists outside of Earth. Given the Drake Equation and the fact that life is known to exist in one location of the universe, it seems far more probable that life exists elsewhere in the universe than it does not. Of course there is always the question of what do you define "life" as being, never mind "intelligent" life.
I beleive aliens exist, but I don't beleive they have ever been to earth. But theres so many planets out there, theres gotta be alt least a few with alien life.

The thought of humans being alone in the universe is a bit scary. Say, the human race goes extinct somewhere in the future, then what would be the purpose of the Universe? Start life all over again on another planet? Could be, but its a difficult concept for me to grasp.

To be honest I don't really know whether I believe in them or not. I do think that with all the galaxies there are, it seems a bit unreal that we would be the only lifeforms. But I don't really want to think that there are other things out there that are more technologically advanced than us. Because if they are anything like some of the violent and power hungry people on Earth, then we'd be in trouble.

I agree. It seems far more likely that there is life on other planets than that there isn't.
The question is then, if there is intelligent alien lifeforms on other planets, have we ourselves ever been visited by them? Roswell, alien abduction accounts, UFO sightings, Men in Black, crop circles, all of those wacky UFO/Bible theories (ex. Elijah's Chariot=UFO), etc. Could any of that stuff be real? ;)

Well another dimension, or simply objects that exist beyond the visual spectrum of light. Our mass and visibility depend only on their respected frequencies (mass and light frequency). One Canadian self-educated inventor/scientist, Hutchison, managed to change the frequency of a couple of object (their mass frequency) which started floating. This is actually documented in a few video files available on the internet. Search for Hutchison effect on google and you'll see for yourself. He didnt understand what he did, until he met David Sereda who figured out that his experiment changed the mass frequency of those objects. However the experiment worked only once, and so far all attempts to replicate the same set of circumstances have been unsuccessfull, or at least that's what they tell us.
In theory if an object starts oscilating at very high frequencies, at some point it will disappear from sight, because we wont be able to see it anymore, or as you called it, the object will exist but in another dimension. It will also start defying gravity, or simply it will reduce the mass of the object to the point where it will start to float.
This is all tied up very nicely with the Nasa recordings over Earth's orbit in (I think) 1998, made by a camera that catches the infrared spectrum of the light, which is not visible by a normal camera, or telescope, or the human eye. In the recording you see objects around Earth's orbit which perform some incredible manuvers, or intelligent manuvers if you will.
So according to David Sereda, these objects/UFO's are doing exactly that: they change the frequency of ther mass, thus they are invisible and they have almost or no mass. And here's the interesting part, Einstein's equation is E=mc², which means that if you want to move an object from point A to point B, with mass X, you will need X times c² energy to that. In other words you'll need an energy source the size of the Sun. We simply cannot replicate that ammount of energy. Until recently we couldn't have imagined that we can change the mass of the object, and being that the speed of light (c) is a constant (186 282,397 miles per second or 300 000 km/s) it ment that traveling at the speed of light would be impossible. But if this theory proves to be correct, and if we can change the mass of the objects then E=mc² becomes a very small number (say m=0.000001 ; c=186 282,4 then E = 3470,1 -- try the same with an object that has mass only 1 and you'll see the difference) which can be acheived with a simple propulsion system, lets say a modern day rocket engine or something that can generate that ammount of energy. Not really sure how much energy is that, but you get the picture. In theory, this explains the incredible manuvers of those objects/UFO's and that maybe we're looking at a way how we can travel at the speed of light, perhaps even beyond that.
I dont believe in anything I see, hear and/or read, but I'm an open minded person and this IMO is worth considering. I also dont think that its a hoax, because this guy, Sereda, appears to be very transparent with his research, and he's actually mentioned on numerous credible internet sites. Maybe its true, and maybe it isnt, but its interesting nevertheless.
He also has some other theories, but IMO those are too far fetched even for me :D
Search for "Evidence: The Case For NASA UFO's" on google and see/decide for yourself. I think the documentary is available for free on Google video, but the quality is very low. There is however a DVD, so if you know how to find that ... :D

Aliens visiting from elsewhere in the universe?
Have we been visited by extraterrestrial beings from elsewhere in the universe? First, I would like to eliminate the idea that we have been visited by beings located outside our own galaxy. Andromeda, the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way is 2 million light years distant. This means that if there were aliens in Andromeda, it would take them longer than 2 million years to come to earth.1 Another problem is why they would want to visit our galaxy. The Andromeda galaxy is considerably larger than our galaxy. If life were common in the universe, there should be many times more of it in Andromeda, than in our wimpy galaxy. Why would they even want to visit us? A third problem for potential aliens is detecting us. We have been sending radio waves for less than 100 years. It will be another 2 million years before those signals reach our closest neighboring galaxy. The light (and other electromagnetic signals) that they now see represent the way the earth looked 2 million years ago. Beings in other galaxies would have no way of knowing that advanced life forms existed in our galaxy.
How many alien civilizations in our galaxy?
The Drake Equation (http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/ufo.html#appendix)(named for Frank Drake, the originator of the equation) is a way to estimate how many intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations might inhabit our galaxy. A most optimistic estimate for the number of intelligent civilizations in our galaxy is 150. This would mean that each intelligent civilization would be separated by an average of 2,000 light years. Such vast distances make contact unlikely and finding other advanced civilizations improbable. If these civilizations exist, they will not detect our radio signals for another 1900 years. How will they even know we are here? For information on how these results were calculated, appendix (http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/ufo.html#appendix)

I do believe in extraterrestrial life. How can there not be? The universe is so freakin' big and there's proof both here and on Mars that life can pop up, if not thrive, in the harshest of conditions. Some planet out there has to house intelligent, sentient life.
But I don't really believe abduction stories and other tales about aliens visiting Earth. Why would they be secretive? And as someone else said, why come here?

The Drake Equation was proposed to help find an answer to Fermi's Paradox. Enrico Fermi posited that if intelligent life existed in abundance in our galaxy then we should see signs of their existance, whether it be space probes, space craft or radio transmissions. We have yet to find any evidence.
The equation is somewhat impractical and abstract given that many of the variables in the equation are pure conjecture. We have no emperical basis to support one particular set of variables over another. It is a good starting point, however, and highlights areas of research that we need to pursue if we want to find an answer.
I think it is almost certain there is other life in the universe. Whether that life is intelligent or not by our definition is impossible to say at this point.
Nah, I don't

As far as real-life aliens go, I don't think that much about it...although I do believe we'd be arrogant as a race to believe we're the only life in the universe. One of my friends put it like this: "Why would God create all these planets, moons, stars, and assorted phenomena...and not put anything on them?" Like an above poster said, if aliens do exist, I think they're probably more like us than we'd be prepared to realize. Humanity tends to have two usual alien theories: "dangerous creatures that destroy" or "peaceful beings that are kinda cute". Realistically, if they are out there, I think it's probably more in the middle of that spectrum, just like us...different types all over the place.

I like what moviefan2k4's friend said,"Why would God create all these planets, moons, stars, and assorted phenomena...and not put anything on them?" It really makes you think about the universe. How big is it?, is this universe in something even bigger? Why is it so empty? Is there life besides us?Where have all our space probes gone that were lost years ago? Has someone found them? When our sun burns out in a few million years, where will the human race go?
I remember reading in some magazine that there IS a planet out there that is about the same size as Earth, and it is about the same distance away from its sun as we are from ours. It also has a bigger planet near it, like our Jupiter, that can protect it from incoming asteroids. This planet, however is waaaaaaaaaaay to far away, but, depending on its makeup, COULD support life.:\ :\

www.georgenoory.com, this is a radio program show, daily nights, that talk about aliens, ghosts, big foot, supernatural things. In one show, they've disgusted with several eyewitness accounts of these extraterrestrial probes hovering outside or on top of the person's house.
The thing about this is, no one would never know because all we can do is base our assumptions on other people's behalfs. Once we get to see it, face to face, beforehand, then, will we ever believe it. Human beings are way too specical/suspicious of things. I would definitely say yes though, there are alien lifeforms, but we won't know in our lifetime because our technology is just not advanced enough.

Sometimes the fact that people don't believe there are aliens, astounds me. Human beings have to be the only species to be so conceited that we would think that out of endless miles of space that somehow we are the only reminiscence of "intelligent" life. However I do think that some people become way too obsessed with the idea of aliens, and end up wasting their entire life, for something that is almost impossibe, at this point, to know.

I believe there are aliens! Evidence of water was recently discovered on Mars, so perhaps there may have been Martians at one time...

I guess it depends on what side you are looking at...whats the likeliness that we are the only ones? or whats the likeliness that the right combo has come together on some other planet? My problem is...how do we know that these are the only things life can live with..I mean couldnt there be a different form of life out there that doesnt need oxygen or water or anything like that?

most pepole assume that an alien would be an evil thing tahts ugly and bent on destruction. One thing that belives our intelligence is inferior to them but i dont think taht is true. I think that god made different pepole. I think that the universe is god's creation and somehwere there has to be another form of life. There has been proof on mars and others. I dont believe they are your sterotypical alien , but more like us than we realize . Thats why I always like that show roswell and smallvlle it gives the more human side to an extra terrestrial .

I believe in aliens. I've even seen UFOs.
Anyway, if there are aliens out there, they're probably about 500 years more advanced than we are. In the Dark/Middle Ages, there was little to no technological advancement. Shoot, from the collapse of the Roman empire where there was a 100 percent literacy rate, it went down to 3 percent. That's t-h-r-e-e percent. We are 500 years behind in human development. Who knows where we'd be if humanity hasn't wasted so much time Inquisitioning non-white people.

I'm not real sure what to think about aliens. There are so many reports of sightings and encounters but basically no proof. Same with Bigfoot, Lochness, Chupacabras, and ghosts. Lots of stories but no cold hard proof. Every photo is blurry, every video is shaky. I'm not saying any of these aren't possible, I just would think we'd have some proof by now.
UFO's are just unidentified. Just because you don't know what you are looking at in the sky doesn't make it an alien craft from space.

i don't believe in "aliens"
simply because of today's technology can't even discover "intelligent life"- and why do we even call it "intelligent life" when all we do is debate wether or not there exist life on other planets??
what i'm trying to say lol- is that if there really does exist life on other planets, wouldn't we at least know something concrete??
but if there does, i wonder if "they" debate wether or not there are life on other planets to

Yes, I believe in "Intelligent" life on other planets. I also believe that the
life on this planet is not very intelligent and not worth a superior alien
races' time. The only thing that we're really good at is creating weapons
to kill one another. Stealing from the poor and giving to the rich in a
corrupt, greedy, selfish way. Overpopulating the planet to the point of
starvation. These are things that the human race are good at and reasons
why an alien race wouldn't waste their time on us. Do they really want
us to do to them what the Europeans did to the American Indians?

In my humble opinion, I figure that there's a half-decent chance of life existing on other worlds. However, I strongly doubt that they'd be anything like what we often imagine. I think that if they do exist, they're probably a lot more like us than we'd think.

This is actually how I see it. I don't believe in Aliens/extraterrestrials, I do believe in the supernatural though. I believe in God, the devil, heaven, and hell. I believe that those things exist. I agree with the quote because I that's how I see it. However, I respect those who believe in aliens and those who do not believe in God because I know everybody has different beliefs than mine.

I believe in aliens. i believe somewhere in up above, their is other life forms.
their must be. because out of all of the Galaxies. where the only ones? ... i doubt that
& if we were the only ones that would be a waste of space :P
my mothers theory was, " i think aliens where here along time ago. & Found nothing. so they left, and no reason to return, and maybe they left some strange markings in the earth as a code, or some kind of navagation, like the Nazca lines in peru for example.

Life is a complex chemical system. The odds of it originating on it's own by random natural chemical interaction are extremely low. Kind of like throwing a bunch of scrabble blocks up in the air and having them come down to spell out the complete works of Shakespeare. If life on Earth originated that way, it's very likely that this amazing event has never been repeated anywhere else in all the vast universe. This would make us very special.
There are some alternative theories for the origin of life. It has been suggested that life was introduced to Earth from space, perhaps as microbes in a comet or other interstellar debris. If so, it may be possible that these interstellar seeds have drifted around to other star systems as well, planting life on many other planets. But so far there is no good evidence of that.
As far as the UFO stuff, I don't see any real reason to interpret that as evidence of space aliens. There could be all sorts of explanations for people seeing things in the sky. Airplanes, natural phenomena, baloons, hoaxes, overactive imaginations, psychological conditions, etc. There really isn't any evidence to point to spaceships from another planet as a likely explanation

Are there Aliens somewhere in the vast Universe ? for me there has to be even if only 1 in a 1000000000 planets had life there could still be millions of of life supporting planets out there.
Have they ever visited this tiny little blue blob in the backwaters of the Milky Way ? I doubt it why would any beings out there who had managed to not blow their selves up and break the light barrier want to come to a planet as divided as Earth ?

COMETA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Cometa" redirects here. For the noctuid moth genus Cometa, see Acronicta, for the HVDC, see Cometa ( HVDC).COMETA was a high-level French UFO study organisation from the late 1990s, composed of high-ranking officers and officials, some having held command posts in the armed forces and aerospace industry. The name "COMETA" in English stands for "Committee for in-depth studies." The study was carried out over several years by an independent group of mostly former "auditors" at the Institute of Advanced Studies for National Defence, or IHEDN, a high-level French military think-tank, and by various other experts.
The group was responsible for the 'COMETA Report' (1999) on UFOs and their possible implications for defence in France. The report concluded that about 5% of the UFO cases they studied were utterly inexplicable and the best hypothesis to explain them was the extraterrestrial hypothesis (ETH). The authors also accused the United States government of engaging in a massive cover-up of the evidence.
The 'COMETA Report' was not solicited by the French government, although before its public release, it was first sent to French President Jacques Chirac and to Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. Immediately afterward, a French weekly news and leisure magazine called VSD referred to it as an "official report", though technically this wasn't the case since COMETA was the work of a private, non-profit, ufological study group. Skeptic Claude Maugé wrote about this: "By letter dated 23 February General Bastien, of the Special Staff of the President of the Republic, wrote: 'To answer your question, this ‘report’ compiled by members of an association organised under the law of 1901 (ruling most non-commercial private associations in France) did not respond to any official request and does not have any special status'."
The report drew largely on the research of GEPAN / SEPRA, a section of the French space agency CNES, unique in being the only official French government-sponsored organisation to investigate UFOs. The birth of GEPAN / SEPRA in the mid-1970s was in large part due to the intense wave of high strangeness UFO sightings in France in 1954.
