Okay, I'm going to do this short little fic, that will take place during season 6. Since I refuse to watch the show, some information might be off and some characters might not be there. However, this is my head and I want to get it off.

Chapter One "Why?"

*The Talon*

It had been a long on the farm for Clark, even for him. He still couldn't get over the phatom zone. He had nightmares about what happened there and how lonely he had felt there. He just needed a break from the world and what better a break than to drown himself in caffine and sugar. Lois stood at the counter as Clark approached.

"Well, look who was finally come out of his small little world to grace the rest of us with his appearence." Lois smirked sarcastically.

"Yeah, I needed a break from my world." Clark sighed.

"So what can I get you?" Lois asked.

"Anything with a lot of sugar and caffine." Clark told her and Lois grinned, before turning her back to him.

"Maybe it's a good thing you haven't been around, otherwise you might have heard...." Lois then stopped herself, remembering who she was talking to.

"Heard what?" Clark asked with curiousity. Lois quickly thought of something to say.

"The circus is coming to town. Yeah and I heard it was going to be big." Lois with a big smile.

"Oh and am I looking at it's star clown? Because I don't believe a word you're saying. So, shall we try again?" Clark asked with a serious look. Lois took a deep breath.

"I heard Lana is sleeping with Lex." Lois said, barely keeping eye contact with Clark. Clark just laughed.

"Come on Lois, Lana wouldn't sleep with Lex. She's not in love with him." Clark replied.

"I'm just telling what I heard, but...." Lois saw Lana walk in. "If you want to know the truth, there she is." Clark turned around to see Lana approaching them.

"Hey Lois, can I get the usual?" Lana asked and Lois nodded.

"Sure, I'll get right on it." Lois turned to Clark before walking away. Lana and Clark stood next to each other in awkward silence. It's not like they haven't been in this situation before, it's just that this time, it wasn't because they didn't how to tell each other their feelings. It was, because they were now about as close to each other as China was to the US in distance. Even though they were next to each other, they might as well have been miles away.

"Hey." Clark said, turning to her.

"Hey." Lana replied coldly.

"How are things?" Clark asked.

"Good." Lana replied, with the same amount of excitement as a rock. Even though Clark didn't think it was true, he thought he had to ask anyways.

"Rumors are going around that you and Lex slept together." Clark informed.

"I don't think it's anyone's business what me and Lex do." Lana scolded him. Clark looked at her awkwardly.

"So are you saying it's true?" Clark questioned him.

"That's none of your business Clark." Lana scolded him again, but unlike other times, Clark didn't back off. Her answer seemed to get him upset.

"IS IT TRUE? Yes or no?" He yelled. Lana turned to him, taken aback by his outburst.

"If you must know, then yes, it is true." Lana said. Clark looked at her in complete shock. He could no longer breath, he could barely stand.

"Lana...." He mummered out. Lana ignored his look.

"What Clark? You didn't expect that? You didn't think I could move on? Well, I have and now I'm going to go." Lana takes her cup on the counter and begins to walk out, before Clark lightly grabs her arm.

"Is that what this about? Getting back at me?" Clark asked, angrily.

"No, this is about me and being with someone who loves me. Someone who I can trust and who can trust me. Someone you're not." Lana explained and began to walk away again.

"Do you actually believe the ******** that you're saying?!?" Clark said, Lana turned back to him. "I told you that I would always love you, no matter what happened. The only reason I said I didn't, was to protect you. Not telling you my secrets has nothing to do with trusting you." Clark told her with full sincereity.

"I'm not going to sit here and listen to another lecture on how you're protecting me. That song got old a long time ago. You looked me in the eye and told me you didn't love me." Lana shouted back.

"So is that why you feel the need to rip my heart out and continually stomp on it?" Clark questioned her.

"You let me go Clark, what did you expect?" Lana asked him again.

"I didn't expect you to turn in another person. I didn't expect you to hate me for being the one person who was willing to sacrifice anything to safe you. I didn't expect you to fall for the very man I was protecting you from." Clark said, his eyes becoming very hard.

"I fell for the man who was honest with me." Lana repeated.

"NO, YOU FELL FOR THE MAN WHO TWIST THE TRUTH SO BADLY, THAT HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS. YOU FELL FOR A MAN WHO HAS BLINDED WITH A HATRED FOR SOMEONE YOU CLAIMED TO LOVE." Clark shouted.

"I DID LOVE YOU! I put my life on hold for months, waiting for you to open up to me, but you couldn't do it. Why can't you get it through your head that I didn't and don't need you to protect me. You broke my heart." Lana said, almost sobbing at the last part.

"Your heart wasn't the only one broken. My heart has been broken ever since the day my dad died, when I found out that we could never be together. My heart crumbled every day after that knowing that I was with you, yet I never really could be. Then I lost part of my heart, when you walked out the door. The day I saw you with Lex, I lost more of my heart, so much so that I could barely go on. Finally, today, I have nothing left, my heart is gone. Congradulations Lana, you've destroyed me." Clark storms by her. Lana is left speechless, tears threatening to overcome her. Clark reached the door and turned around. "And don't worry about me protecting you. The days of me protecting you are over." Clark then walked out, leaving a staggered Lana.

*One week later*

*Clark's loft*

Clark is getting ready to leave when Chloe comes up the loft stairs. "Go some where?" Chloe asked, checking out his biker jacket.

"Yeah, I figure I'm going to hit some night clubs, in different states." Clark told her, Chloe looked at him strangely.

"Is that where you have been the past week?" Chloe wanted to know.

"Pretty sure." Clark replied as he put on his watch and shades.

"And what do you do there?" Chloe questioned him.

"What most people do at clubs, I dance." Clark said, giving her a "duh" look.

"Clark Kent, a dancer? Yeah right." Chloe smirked.

"It's not hard to dance when you have a girls laying up against me. And wow, I can't get over some of the girls I've danced with." Clark explained as Chloe looked at him like he was crazy.

"Anything else I should know about?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah, it's hard to find condems that are b....." Clark trailed off when saw Chloe's eyes about to explode out of her head.

"Clark, what the hell is wrong with you?" Chloe searched him for red k, but found nothing. "I don't see any red kryponite on you or anything. What's going on?" Chloe needed to know.

"Nothing, this is the new Clark Kent. The one who really doesn't care anymore." Clark informed her.

"Is this because of Lana?" Chloe said, taking him by the shoulder.

"Who?" Clark asked, pretending to be obvlious.

"Lana, you know the girl you've been in love with your entire life." Chloe said sarcastically.

"Oh yeah, her, must have slipped my mind." Clark said and walked past Chloe.

"Clark...." Chloe said grabbing his arm again and taking off his shades. "You can't let what happened do this to you. You're better than this and you deserve better than this. Please, just stop and think about what you're doing." Chloe tried to convince him.

"For once in my life i'm not going to sit her and moan about what happened with Lana. I'm going to move on and be with as many girls as I can. I'm not going to waste another 18 years on her." Clark told Choe and walked out.

I woke up this morning around 4am
With the moon shining bright as headlighs on the interstate
I pulled the covers over my head and tried to catch some sleep
but thoughts of us kept keeping me awake

*Lex's Mansion*

Lex was at a meeting tonight as Lana sat next to the fire place with a book in hand. Although there wasn't much reading she could get done. Ever since the break up with Clark, Lana place a barrier around her heart. Ever day since then, it began to grow bigger and bigger. Of course she was dating Lex and even slept with him, but that barrier was still there. It was there for one reason, Clark Kent.

When he broke up with her, she vowed to never let him her hurt again. But along the way, it seemed she vowed to hurt him like he had hurt her. Some where along the way, she had lost who she truly was. She had become so filled with hate and anger, that she forgot the most important thing about him, that he did never mean to hurt her. That he would never hurt her, if he had a choice. When she heard utter those words:

Congradulations Lana, you've destroyed me

It was like, all of a sudden she remembered, who she was and who he was. The question was, what could she do? What was she suppose to do?

Clark congratulated Lana for destroying him, but it was more like she pushed him into destroying himself. :(

Neither Clark nor Lana are truely themselves. Lana actually realizes this, even if Clark doesn't. :(

*That night at Lana and Chloe's dorm*

Lana opened the door to her room and saw Chloe doing some work on her laptop. "Hey Clo." Lana greeted her.

"Hey......" Chloe said with cold voice.

"I guess you're upset with me too?" Lana noticed.

"I'm upset at both of you, but today you're in the lead." Chloe responded, still keeping her eyes on her work.

"I never wanted it to be this way." Lana admitted and Chloe turned to her.

"I know." Chloe said, then paused. "But this is the way it is." Chloe told her.

"How is he?" Lana asked, almost hesitantly.

"Not good, but I guess it depends on your point of view. According to him though, nothing is wrong." Chloe informed her.

"I wish I could help....." Lana said trailing off as she looked away.

"Yeah, I'm sure you do...." Chloe said kind of sarcastically.

"What is that suppose to mean?" Lana snapped back.

"It means you haven't cared for him for a while now." Chloe pointed out.

"What was I suppose to do Chloe? He pushed me away!" Lana shouted.

"You could have stuck it out, that's what you do with the people you love. You stay with them, no matter what, especially when you know they're hurting inside." Chloe replied.

"I can't do anything if I don't know what's going on. I was hurting to, how I am suppose to be there for him, when I can't even be there for myself?" Lana asked.

"All you had to do was stay, love isn't all about living in a fairy tale. Love is about suffering through the hard times that life throws at you and you quit on him. Then you resented him for protecting you and sacrificing his happiness." Chloe explained.

"It was too hard...." Lana turned away.

"So you ran to Lex and in the meantime, Clark's heart was shattered to pieces." Chloe said folding her arms in irritation.

"I can't change what happened....." Lana confessed.

"No, you can't, but you can determine what happens in the future." Chloe said.

"I don't know if I can or even if I want to. I don't know if I can ever forgive him for what happened." Lana said in confusion.

"That's sad then, because you might be the only person who can help him....." Chloe got up and went to the door.

"Where are you going?" Lana asked.

"To find my friend." Chloe told her and began walked out as Lana looked at her thoughtfully.

“Wait!” Lana said stopping her, Chloe turned to her.

“What?” Chloe said, waiting for answer impatiently.

“I want to come.” Lana told her and Chloe looked at curiously.

“Why? Didn’t just say you didn’t know you could help? Didn’t you just say you didn’t even know if you could forgive him?” Chloe said, throwing questions her way.

“I know what I said…..” Lana paused, looking away for a second before turning back to Chloe. “I just need to know that he’s okay.” Lana admitted.

“And why would that suddenly matter again?” Chloe wanted to know.

“Because after the incident at the Talon, I realized something.” Lana paused, trying to gather her emotion. Chloe urged her to go on and she did. “I realized that I lost a part of myself the day I walked out of his loft a couple months ago when he told me he didn’t love me. I just want that part back again, whatever that may mean.” Lana explained and Chloe sighed.

“Let’s go.” Chloe nodded and then they left.

*Club Atlantis*

Chloe and Lana get out of their car and head toward the club. “Well, I figured we would start here, because this is where I found him the summer he ran away.” Chloe said, pointing toward the entrance.

“I remember.” Lana told her.

“The problem is, I don’t know how to get in.” Chloe said and then looked toward the long line. “That is, without having to wait hours to get in.” Chloe admitted.

“Let me try.” Lana walked up to the guard.

“Can I help you?” He asked.

“Yeah, I’m looking to get in and meet my boyfriend.” Lana told him.

“So are many other girls, you don’t get in unless you’re on the list.” He scolded her.

“Okay, then I’ll just have to explain that to Kal when I tell him why I couldn’t make it.” Lana said and began to walk away when the guard stopped her.

“Did you say Kal?” He questioned her.

“Yes, the one and only.” Lana said, knowing she got in.

“Come right in.” The guard let Chloe and Lana through.

“Care to explain?” Chloe asked as they walked through the crowd of people.

“Well……That’s the name Clark used when he was coming to this club that summer. He brought me here once.” Lana informed Chloe.

“Oh, ok, let’s split up and see if we can see him.” Chloe suggested.

“Fine.” Lana agreed and they went their separate ways. Lana walked through the crowd of people as memories flowed into her head.

*Flashback*

Clark leads Lana through the crowd of people by hand.

“Hey Kal.” The waitress says.

“Why did she call you Kal?” Lana asked, yelling over the music.

“It’s my secret identity.” Clark grinned.

“Clark. Clark!” Lana yelled trying to get his attention. “I’ve been worrying about you for three months and you’ve been hanging around in nightclubs?” Lana asked, becoming upset.

“You’re so cute when you’re angry.” Clark grinned again, then become serious. “Lana, if you keep talking about Hicksville, you're gonna be on the next bus going back. Now I thought you were here to have some fun.” Clark told her. Then he and the bartender greet each other.

“You’re right, I’ll go freshen up.” Lana turns to walk away, when Clark brings her into a passionate kiss and she returns it.

“I’m glad you’re here.” Clark sincerely told her.

“Me too.” She replied with the same sincerity before walking away.

“If she’s the one you’ve been waiting for, I can understand the wait.” The bartender told him as Clark kept his eyes on Lana with a smile.

*End of Flashback*

Lana walked up the bar, still trying to find Clark in the crowd. “This looks familiar, doesn’t it?” A voice came from Lana’s side and she turned to see Clark.

“Yeah and I’m still trying to find that same person.” Lana said and Clark smirked.

“Good luck, because you won’t find him here.” Clark began to walk away, when Lana grabbed his arm.

“This isn’t you Clark…..” Lana said, as Clark ripped his arm away from Lana.

“You don’t even know me, so who‘s to say it isn‘t me?” Clark snapped back.

“And who’s fault is it, that I don’t know you?” Lana said, now becoming upset.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s the girl who kept quitting on me.” Clark said turning to her.

“Quit on you? I chased you down in Metropolis, I spent months with you, trying to get you to open up? I never quit on you, until you gave me no choice.” Lana explained, anger in her eyes.
“You’re also the person who rather believe a stranger than me, do the Ian’s of the world ring a bell? You’re also the girl who would run away to Met U and Paris would so much as a word to me.” Clark threw that back in her face.

“Those were mistakes driven by your secrets. How can I ever completely trust someone who keeps secrets?” Lana said.

“BECAUSE YOU TRUST THEIR HEART, YOU TRUST WHAT’S INSIDE OF THEM. I’ve always given you my heart, I always thought that would be enough. I was wrong, it wasn’t enough, my love meant nothing and it even helped in bringing together my worst nightmare.” Clark paused, making sure had Lana’s full attention. “I can’t believe I wasted all those years loving you and if I never saw you again, I wouldn’t care.” Clark said and then walked away through the crowd. Lana stood there in shock as Chloe hurriedly came through. Chloe took one look at Lana.

“What happened?” She asked.

Empty spaces fill me up with holes

*Car ride home*

Chloe and Lana sat quietly on the ride home, not daring to mention what had happened at the club. Lana sat quietly looking out the window as Chloe drove. Finally, Chloe decided to speak. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pushed you to come.” Chloe apologized.

“You didn’t push me to do anything Chloe. I made the choice all by myself.” Lana said, still staring out the window and Chloe nodded her head, keeping her attention wisely on the road.

“I’m sorry anyways, I just wish I had gotten there in time. I just wish I had done something, I could have helped. I could have told you the truth.” Chloe admitted, beating herself up for not doing so.

“I haven’t exactly proven myself worthy of knowing the truth.” Lana frowned.

“But you did you just don’t know it….” Chloe said, before realizing she slipped up. Lana put her hand up, telling it’s okay.

“No, I don’t need to know, because I already know the truth. I know the truth of what I’ve done.” Lana share a small laugh. “I thought I’d be mad, if he yelled at me or said what he did to me. I thought I would be able to say the things I had felt, about how he lied to me and he pushed me out. I kept telling myself I’m the one who should be mad, but after seeing him tonight and the look in his eyes, I knew I was wrong. I could see how much more I had hurt him.” Lana explained, staring sadly out the window.

“He wasn’t himself Lana, don’t be so hard on yourself.” Chloe tried to reassure her.

“No, that’s the sad part Chloe, it was him there tonight. I’ve always been able to tell when Clark was himself and he when he wasn’t, that was Clark Kent.” Lana said turning to Chloe.

“Well, what are we going to do?” Chloe said as they pulled into their dorm parking lot.

“I don’t know……But I guess I’ll you know by tomorrow.” Lana said as Chloe looked at her curiously.

*Clark’s loft, the next night*

Clark stood in his loft ready for another late night, when he heard a visitor approaching. “Chloe, I’m done talking, go away.” Clark scolded.

“Is that anyway to talk to mother.” A voice said and Clark turned around to see Martha.

“Mom…..” Clark said in disbelief. “I thought you had to spend the week in New York.” Clark questioned her.

“Well, the conferences were cut short. We got everything done in time.” Martha explained.

“Oh…..” Clark said, getting himself back together.

“Where are you going?” Martha asked.

“To a club.” Clark told her.

“A club? My Clark?” Martha asked curiously.

“Yeah, well, I need to go.” Clark tries to walk past, but Martha gently stops him.

“Lois told me what happened with Lana and Lex.” Martha confessed to Clark.
“Wow, the secret is out.” Clark said sarcastically.

“It’s okay to be anger Clark, you loved her.” Martha told him.

“Obviously that doesn’t matter, it really never has.” Clark informed her.

“Clark….” Clark put his hand to stop her.

“I can’t talk to you mom…..” Clark said walking past her. “I can’t talk to anyone.” Clark said before leaving a concerned Martha looking down at him as he leaves.

*A little later that night in the loft*

Martha sits on the loft couch, looking at a picture of her family. It was her, Jonathon and Clark during thanksgiving. They all had smiles on their faces, Martha looked on, envious of the days gone by. “Mrs. Kent?” A voice called out up the stairs. Martha turned to see Lana.

“Lana….” Martha called out, startled to see her.

“You’re probably surprised to see me.” Lana said, stating the obvious.

“Well, ever your last few visits, I wasn’t sure you would be making a return appearance.” Martha said as Lana approached the couch.

“Yeah….” Lana paused and sat down. “My memories up here haven’t been the same for a while now.” Lana conceded.

“I’m sorry to hear that dear. May I ask why you came by?” Martha said putting down her picture and turning to Lana.

“I actually came here to think. I really wasn’t expecting anyone to be here and I know how weird that sounds, me, coming into someone else‘s loft.” Lana said with a small laugh. Martha smiled warmly back at here.

“Well, you’re always welcomed here. Any where around here.” Martha said with another smile, before getting up. “I’ll leave you alone.” Martha began to leave before Lana stopped her.

“How could you be so nice to me after what has happened?” Lana asked. Martha turned around and took a seat again.

“Because I know what’s in your heart.” Martha replied.

“I don’t understand Mrs. Kent. Clark told me that last night. How are you suppose to know what’s in someone’s heart if they can’t be honest with you or they do something wrong or something you believe is wrong.” Lana asked searching for answers.

“I can’t really explain it Lana. Sometimes it’s just instinct or the way you can look someone in the eyes and see exactly who they are. Jonathon was the best at it and over the years I was able to do the way. It’s a feeling, the same feeling that comes with knowing how much someone loves you. If you look closely enough, you can see.” Martha smiled warmly at Lana, before getting up. “It was nice seeing you again Lana, don’t be a stranger.” Martha said before leaving. Lana sighed, putting her hands through her hair. She walked up to the loft window and then turned around to leave, when she saw a picture on Clark’s desk crumbled up. It was a picture of the Kents, Clark and Lana during Christmas. They all were smiling, but unlike everyone else, Clark wasn’t looking at the camera. Clark was looking at her. Lana stared thoughtfully at the picture, before getting up and leaving.

Lana drove as fast she could, she knew what she had to do and she had to do it now.

*Lex’s mansion*

Lex was seating at his desk, checking out his laptop as he always did. Suddenly, Lana rushed in and Lex looked up, some what concerned. “Lana? Is everything okay?” He asked.

“I don’t know….” Lana said, looking around, seeming confused. Lex got up and walked to her.

“What is it?” He wanted to know.

“Kiss me.” She ordered him.

“I’d love to.” He smiled and leaned in, kissing her passionately. Finally, they broke apart and Lana just stood there silently, looking into his eyes. Martha Kents words echoing in her heads as she searched his eyes, looking for that special something. “Is something wrong?” Lex questioned her with a smile on his face.

“No…..In fact, for the first time in a while, everything’s great.” Lana said with a smile.

“Good, I was wondering if you wanted to join me tonight for dinner.” Lex offered.

“I can’t Lex.” Lana replied.

“What? Why not?” Lex asked, becoming confused.

“In fact, I can’t ever see you again.” Lana told him, starting to back up.

“What do you mean? What’s going on?” Lex said, now very confused and unaware of what’s going on.

“I’m in love with Clark Kent. Not just college I love you, I am deeply in love with Clark Kent and nothing’s ever going to change that. I’m never going to let go of him again, no matter what. I’m sorry Lex, I really am, but there’s only one man for me and there will only ever be one.” Lana said, before rushing out.

*Chloe and Lana’s dorm room, an hour later.*

Lana rushed into the room, just like she did into Lex’s mansion. “Lana?” Chloe said, some what startled by her rushing in.

“Chloe, I’m going to get him.” Lana said with confidence.

“Excuse me?” Chloe asked, confused.

“Remember when I told you I didn’t know what we were going to do?” Lana asked and Chloe nodded.

“Yes, I remember.” Chloe replied.

“Well, I know now.” Lana paused before finishing. “I’m going to bring him home.” Lana repeated, again with utmost confidence.

“And how do you plan doing that?” Chloe questioned her, folding her arms in curiosity.

“I don’t know, all I know is……..No matter how long it takes, no matter how many times he may reject me, I’m not going to give up.” Lana explained as Chloe looked on, impressed by her friend.

“Sounds like a plan.” Chloe said smiling as did Lana.

“You going to wish me luck?” Lana asked.

“Of course.” Chloe got up and hugged Lana. “Good luck.” Chloe said, then Lana gave a reassuring smile before leaving.

*Club Atlantis, a couple hours later*

Clark was on the dance floor grinding with a cute blond girl. Doing the same thing he had done every night, dancing with one girl after another, then eventually when the night was over he would bring one back to his loft and have sex with her. He was just letting himself, be the part of him everyone has, the part of you that just doesn’t want to care anymore and do whatever they want. He was consumed with his lack of carrying about what he did, his body filled with emotionless feelings.

Every once and a while, single, solitary thought would come to him. Telling him what he was doing was wrong and it wasn’t him, his conscience quietly whispering, ‘this isn’t you.’ It didn’t matter though, because those thoughts would quickly be pushed out of his head, because he didn’t want to think or dwell anymore, he just wanted to do what he wanted or what he thought he wanted. Because the more he did this, the more he didn’t face the truth……

“I’m going to get a drink.” Clark said, lightly pulling her off him.

“Will we get another chance to dance?” The girl asked with a seductive smile.

“Probably not.” Clark said before walking away as the girl stormed away in another direction. Clark walked up to the bar, where his old friend was bartending. Clark and the bartender shock hands like they did every night.

“You know, that girl was gorgeous.” He told Clark as he cleaned the dirty glasses.

“Yeah, she was alright.” Clark replied, showing his lack of interest in the girl.

“I’ve you seen with a lot of different girls Kal and none of them seem to make you happy. Hell, none of them even seem to impress you.” The guy observed.

“They’re not my type.” Clark said turning to the guy.

“Oh…..” The bartender turned to his right and saw Lana coming his way. “Well, maybe the girl coming this way would interest you.” Clark turned to see Lana approaching him.

“Lana……” Clark said, not believing she came back.

“Clark…” Lana said, now standing right in front of him.

“I’ll leave you two alone.” The bartender says with a smile before leaving.

“I didn’t think I would see you again.” Clark said, clearly surprised to see her.

“Well you know me, full of surprises.” Lana said as Clark nodded, trying to get a grasp on what was going on.

“Yeah…..” Clark replied and began to walk away, when Lana grabbed his arm.

“I came here to see you.” Lana confessed and Clark turned to her.
“Right….” Clark paused. “And lecture me about how bad of a boyfriend I was. How I kept secrets from you and how Lex was honest with you. You gave everything, I gave nothing. I think I’ve heard all this before.” Clark told her as Lana looked away briefly, trying to decide how to reply to that.

“That isn’t fair Clark, how was I suppose to react? You can’t expect me to have taken everything that happened lightly, like it didn’t hurt me.” Lana replied to his comment.

“Yeah, you were hurt, we’ve been through this. Let’s just move on and be done with it.” Clark suggested.

“So you just want to move on and forget all about it? Forget about us?” Lana asked him.

“Now you’re following…..” Clark said with a smug look and began to walk away again, until Lana grabbed his arm again.

“I’m not done talking to you.” Lana sternly told him as Clark looked amused at her.

“What is it Lana? What do you want? You come down here and you think you can make me talk to…..” Before Clark could finish Lana brought him into a deep passionately kiss. After a couple of seconds they broke apart.

“I’m not letting you out of my life again.” Lana said, looking sincerely into his eyes as Clark looked on taken aback by what just happened.

“Why do you all of a sudden care about me? You can’t just do what you did and expect me to forgive.” Clark said, becoming emotional.

“Yes, I can, because I can forgive you, we don’t have to do this to each other anymore.” Lana said, taking his hands in hers.

“You’re right, we don’t have to do this anymore.” Clark said, walking away from Lana again, this time she didn’t stop him.

Clark really seems to have given up, or is he just too afraid to risk his heart once again? It seems Lana will have her work cut out for her.

Alternatively, she might want to wait a year or two for Clark. His heart will either disappear entirely or else he will realize what he has been missing in his life.

*Club Atlantis*

For every day of every week, Lana went to club Atlantis every night to see Clark. She would just sit at the bar and watch him, dancing with all these different girls. Usually that would be a big deal to her, but for some reason that didn’t really matter to her anymore. She knew the truth and the truth was, Clark Kent was in love with her. All those girls, in no disrespect to them, were nothing.

Of course Clark knew she was there, every once and a while he would give her a glance then turn back to what he was doing. Clark was still consumed with his anger and he continued to make love with the girls he would choose. Sometimes it’s easy to bury ones conscience and forget who they are. That’s what Clark did, despite his heart knocking at the door, every time he knew she was there and watching him. Finally, Clark gave up and took a seat next to her on the bar.

“Why are you here?” Clark asked clearly annoyed.

“You know why I’m here.” Lana replied without flinching.

“To haunt me some more about the past?” Clark questioned her sarcastically.

“No, I’m here for you.” Lana replied yet again, in an easy going tone.

“Why? What do you want from me?” Clark wanted to know clearly getting more frustrated.

“All I want is you.” Lana said, this time with some emotion.

“You had me, you always had me but things change. Move on.” Clark got up and began to leave, but Lana stopped him.

“Move on to what?” Lana said, this time asking her own question.

“Anything, don’t you understand?” Clark questioned, becoming very emotional.

“UNDERSTAND WHAT?” Lana shouted.

“That we weren’t meant to be together and we never were.” Clark told her emphatically.

“I don’t believe in destiny and I thought you didn’t either.” Lana said in a low tone.

“It’s not destiny, it’s fact. The sooner you learn that, the sooner you’ll move on.” Clark said, staring into her eyes.

“Do you really believe that? Or is that your anger talking?” Lana questioned with her arms folded.

“Go back to Lex, he’s the one who loves you.” Clark muttered.

“And you don’t?” Lana immediately threw back.

“I think you know the answer to that.” Clark answered.

“No, I don’t, why don’t you tell me again.” Lana said and then began again before Clark could answer. “Why don’t you tell me again and again, because I want to keep hearing it.” Lana challenged Clark.

“I don’t have time for games.” Clark told her.

“Come on Clark, tell me you don’t love me. Then tell me again and again, because I don’t believe you’re a liar.” Lana spouted off.

“I won’t.” Clark said, weakening emotionally.

“Then tell me you do.” Lana asked, moving closer to him as he stared back.

Clark, looked into Lana’s hazel eyes, searching for the answer. They told him the same thing they had for years, ‘just tell me the truth.’ “No.” Clark answered.

“Why?” Lana questioned him.

“Do you always have to know the answers?” Clark shouted, continuing with his rudeness.

“When they keep me and the man I love from being happy, yes, I think I do have to know the answer. Wouldn’t you?” Lana then paused and turned to the side. “You have no idea what’s it like to question yourself, over and over again why you can’t be happy? You have no idea what it’s like to have the man you love know exactly why and yet he can’t tell you. So yes, I want the answers, so I can know why we can’t have what we deserve.” Lana explained and turned back to him.

“You’re better off not knowing why.” Clark quickly replied.

“Of course I’m not, because I won’t understand. Is that what you’re going to tell me Clark?” Lana said, placing her hands on her hips.

“How could you understand? No one can understand, but me.” Clark told her.

“Then make me understand, why do you always assume that I can’t understand. I’m not as weak as you think I am or as dumb.” Lana emphasized.

“It isn’t about you being dumb or weak. This is about me, this isn’t about whether you’re strong or smart.” Clark explained.

“I know this about you, but some where along the line, you, became us.” Lana took his hands, but he pulled them back.

“No, there is no us, there’s only me. Now let me get on with my life.” Clark turned around, but Lana stepped in front of him.

“Is this your life?” Lana asked.

“It is now.” Clark quickly responded.

“Is this what you want?” Lana stared into his eyes, making him face her.

“Since when does what I want matter?” Clark wanted to know.

“Why shouldn’t it matter? This is your life, why don’t you deserve to be happy?” Lana needed to know.

“Because that’s just the way life is.” Clark said and walked away before Lana’s voice called out to him.

“No, it isn’t and I don’t accept that.” Lana simply told him.

“Then what are you going to do?” Clark asked with his back to her.

“I’m going to keep coming here and coming, until I get you back.” Lana pause before finishing. “I’m sorry, but I refuse to ever give up on you again and nothing you tell me can make me change my mind.” Lana firmly told him. Clark walked back up to her.

“Even the truth?” Clark asked as Lana looked curiously at Clark.

“What truth?” Lana needed to know.

“How could I ever love you the way I use to, after everything that happened?” Clark sincerely responded and Lana knew he was sincere.

“Clark….” Lana was unable to speak.

“I mean, I’ve loved you for as long as remember. Now all of a sudden how no idea who you are. That’s what hurts the most and now I don’t know even know who I am.” Clark threw up his arms and walked out as Lana stared on.

Just caught up here. That was an intense last scene. Clark isn't sure if he can put everything that happened between them, and between Lex and Lana, aside and go back to the way things once were with Lana. He's really struggling. Lana wants him back & is determined to get him.

Conclusion: Figuring Us Out

*Clark’s Loft, a week later*

Clark is putting his leather jacket into a box, when he heard footsteps. “It’s too bad that jacket seems to bring out the worse in you, because you look very handsome in it, just like your father did.” Martha said as made her way to the top of the loft.

“I’m sure he would be so proud……” Clark sarcastically replied as he turned to the window.

“Clark Kent!” Martha scolded. “Your father was always proud of you and he still is to this day.” Martha said convincingly.

“How could he be proud of what I’ve done?” Clark questioned and began again. “I’ve made so many wrong decisions, so many mistakes. I’ve cost him his life, I drove my best friend away and I made the girl I love, the girl who loves me, hate me. I can’t even look myself in the mirror anymore.” Clark confessed.

“We can’t always make the right choices in life.” Martha said warmly.

“I can’t remember a right choice I ever made.” Clark replied with sincerity.

“One of the funniest things about life is that even the best qualities can be the most dangerous qualities at the same time.” Martha paused and walked up to Clark. “Clark, you have a good heart and that makes you the kind of person you are. You’re selfless, you do things that no one else would ever do, because you care for people. However, you care for people so much, especially the ones you love, that you let the guilt eat you up inside. Soon enough, the guilt is going to eat you alive and it’s going to control you.” Martha explained.

“I don’t know how not to carry those burdens.” Clark confessed, becoming emotional. “I don’t know how to let go and I don’t know how to forgive myself.” Clark’s eyes welled up with tears.

“You have to learn to accept what happen Clark. You need to learn to accept that you made a choice to save the girl you love and that you were willing to protect her no matter how much it would hurt you.” Martha took Clark’s face in her hands. “No one could ever ask you to forget what happened or to forget the pain you felt. But you have to accept it and move on. Don’t let one decision you regret lead to many more decisions based on your guilt. You have people that love you, share the burden. I know sometimes we not be able to understand, because being you is incredibly tough, I know that, but it does no good you keep all your pain buried inside. It just hurts us all.” Martha slowly pulled her hands away and then walked away to a thoughtful Clark.

*A couple of hours later*

Clark walked up to his loft to see Lana staring out of the loft window. He thought about turning back, but something wouldn’t allow him too. Just like that same something wouldn’t allow him to stop loving her or thinking about her. “You would think after all these years we’d get tired of looking out into the stars.” Clark stated as he made his way to the top.

“Some things never grow tiresome.” Lana responded, keeping her eyes on the stars for a couple seconds longer before turning to Clark.

“How have you been?” Clark asked sincerely and Lana smiled at his sincerity.

“I’ve been ok, how about you?” She returned his sincerity.

“I’ve been better.” Clark replied.

“Haven’t we all.” Lana said with truth.

“Yeah….” Clark took a deep breath and silence filled the loft before Clark broke the silence. “I never thought you would come to the club all those nights, especially seeing as how I would be dancing with all those girls.” Clark said with guilt.

“I have to admit it wasn’t the funniest thing in the world.” Lana said, taking a seat on the couch.

“Why? Why would you do that?” Clark needed to know.

“Because I love you Clark.” Lana said with clear emotion.

“Even after everything I said? Everything we’ve been thru?” Clark questioned her.

“Yes Clark, even after everything you said and everything we’ve been thru.” Lana said, once again with just as bit sincerity. Clark looked away in thought and then walked up to her.

“I……I don’t know what to say.” Clark said as Lana looked up into his eyes.

“Just try to be honest.” Lana and began again. “And don’t be honest for me, be honest for yourself.” Lana implored him.

“The reason I pushed you away and I guess the reason I’ve always pushed you away, is because of the guilt I have. The guilt I’ve always had.” Clark confessed.

“Guilt about what? Your father’s death?” Lana asked with curiosity.

“Not just that? Everything……” Clark muttered.

“What’s everything?” Lana asked and then paused to take his hands. “I’m not here to blame you Clark, I’m here to take that blame off your shoulders. For once, stop thinking about protecting me and start thinking about protecting yourself.” Lana pleaded with him.

“Alright……..” Clark gave in. “The day I told you I didn’t love you, I was lying.” Clark paused at the feeling of pain. “I thought I could protect you, protect you from my life and protect you from him. I was wrong.” Clark admitted with pain in his eyes.

“What would make you think I needed to be protected Clark? Because I know, you were going to tell me the truth that day in your loft, but you changed your mind.” Lana pointed out.

“I was going to tell you the truth and what made me change my mind was the fact that you died the day I tell you.” Clark’s shoulders suddenly felt relieved like rocks fell off his shoulders.

“What you mean I died?” Lana quickly questioned.

“The day of my dad’s election happened twice. During one of those days, I told you my secret and asked you to marry me. You accepted my secret and said you would marry me, but after my dad won the election, you went to see Lex. Then something happened during your visit to Lex and you called me on your cell during the way back, saying Lex had figured out my secret, despite you saying anything. When you were talking to me I heard Lex’s heard and then I heard a crash. I rushed to where you told me you were and they you were…….Laying in a pool of your own blood.” Clark explained as tears rolled down his face.

“And you thought that was your fault.” Lana wiped his tears with her thumb.

“How couldn’t I have?” Clark replied without hesitation.

“Because you’re not the one who was driving that bus. You weren’t the one who distracted me from the wheel, like it sounds like Lex did. All you did was give the greatest hours or minutes of my life.” Lana tried to convince him.

“How can you be so sure about that? It never happened.” Clark said, talking about the last part.

“Because I dreamed of that day ever since I fell in love with you.” Lana emotionally told him as Clark couldn’t help but smile.

“I’m just not sure if I can let it go.” Clark said with sadness.

“Yes, you can, just let me be there for you and I promise, you won’t ever have to remember that day, not without me helping you forget.” Lana said some what seductively as she bit her bottom lip.

“You really do love me that much?” Clark asked again, for what seemed like the millionth time.

“Yes, I love you more than you could ever imagine.” Lana said for the millionth time and kissed him passionately on the lips. Clark pulled away, taking in the moment, before his eyes shot open.

“So how was Lex?” Clark asked somewhat hesitantly.

“What do you mean?” Lana had no clue what he meant.

“I mean, how was he in bed.” Clark asked, some what sheepishly as Lana looked up at him in shock that he would ask that.

“Clark Kent, what kind of a question is that?” Lana asked trying to seem outraged.

“Well, I’m a guy, I need to know how I match up.” Clark confessed and Lana leaned up to his ear seductively.

“Let’s just say, comparing you and Lex is like comparing baseball bat to a toothpick.” Lana whispered and Clark broke a huge grin.

“Why don’t we go play some baseball then.” Clark grinned.

“Will you put on the leather jacket for me.” Lana bit her lip seductively.

“Course….” Clark grabbed the jacket and they left hand in hand.
