Is it just me, or is this just deja vu all over again? What a SORRY episode! This played like something out of the first or second season, but with new characters and knowledge gained over the past 5.
Check it: dumb FOTW w/weird organic power, who is beaten in by a simple biology fact provided (natch) by Chloe. 30-second "battle", with Clark's using a well-timed, one-shot blast of heat vision (I guess we're in Season 2 for that one) that saves the day -- just in time. DISGRACEFUL!! No layered plot, no nothing, really, though the Jimmy/Chloe relationship was cute. Otherwise, same-old-same-old. Hell, even Lex and Clark had their obligatory "confrontation" after Clark trespasses (again, natch) on Luthor grounds while waxing metaphoric about a person's "dark side". If you didn't know the backstory of Zod, Dark Thursday etc., the whole situation was nothing new and nothing short of MADDENING; the Lexana make-out scene was nothing short of SICKENING!!
As for Oliver Queen: writers could have waited 'till next week's spotlight ep. instead of contrivedly having him show up for some party to bring him and Lex together and set-up his relationship w/the Kents. Still not sold on his acting -- and DEFINITELY not Gloria's; the monologue about the PZ etc. sounded like an audition piece from the Phantom Zone (flat, barren and boring).
Overall, this was just one of those standard "filler" eps that really blows. I waited all week for this?!! To the writers: Keep it up, y'all, and Season 6 will be the last! How 'bout them ratings apples?!!
Loved the Clarkspeed shots, though -- ESPECIALLY SINCE HE DID THEM IN WELL-POPULATED places!! BDA is right!!

You're right on the money. Smallville has been banished to the Phantom Zone. How's that for monologues.

Well, she wasn't a freak of the week since she wasn't infected with the meteor rock.
I do agree that her power's were pitiful and she died quicker than Clark can run to save Lana.

They are going back to the Season 1, 2 & 3 kind of thing but I like that far better than the chaotic Season 5

Let me get this strait. You hated the FOTW yet you wanted the battle with this crappy villian to go on longer???
I liked the eps but not the villian so I was glade they keeped it short. Clark really should not have trouble with plant lady anyway. She just got lucky cheap shot in the first fight.

I just watched the episode last night after getting back home from my trip and this episode totally sucked. I hated this episode almost as much as Ageless. I looked back at all the other 3rd episodes, and this had to be one of the worst (even Facade may have been better).
I don't understand how anyone can compare the raw sewage this episode was to seasons 1-3. Take a look back at 3rd episodes of previous seasons. Hothead was a damn cool episode showing continuity of how Clark wanted to play football from the Pilot and stopped (too bad they brought that back in season 4). The story was enjoyable and not like a crappy soap opera like this one was (if it had been, this show would have been cancelled long ago). Duplicity in season 2 was awesome with Pete finding out Clark's secret and having to withhold it from Dr. Hamilton who was trying to kill him after finding the ship. Extinction in season 3 was also a great one with Van McNulty going on a freak killing spree and Clark trying to explain to Lana that the freaks did not choose to be different and Lex starting to question if he was a freak with healing/immune system powers. Season 5 had by perhaps the best 3rd episode with Hidden (nuff said).
Wither did just as the title says---it withered. I will take the worst episode of season 5 over this one any day of the week. This season has been pretty weak so far, and if it continues the way it's going, I would rather not have a 7th season as it is becoming painful to watch. I have said over & over again that this is what happens if you focus on 'ships too much instead of building a great plot that is mythos related.
Chloe was an idiot this episode (I won't even bother with Clark who's deep in the abyss of stupidity). She had a chance to perhaps convince Lana of not staying with Lex knowing full well that Lex's dark nature allowed him to be picked by Fine for possession by Zod to cause all those atrocities, but she said nothing. And Lana must be a retard if she would still go with Lex after it was finally proved she knew about the other women. And Lex & Lana suffered brain damage if they don't remember both Desiree & Helen moving in with Lex (after Lex said that he had never asked any of his women to move in with him).
It is just all over the place again. In Sneeze, Lana was bored out of her mind playing the piano and showed minimal feelings for Lex after she didn't offer Clark info on Lex's whereabouts and instead got on his case while Lex was in danger. The only part of the episode that may have been decent was the short Clark-Lex conversation. I was looking for a Chloe-Lana conversation, but as pointed out above, they messed that up so bad that it would have been better without it.
The villian also sucked. She was Smallville's rip-off of Poison Ivy. Clark killing her also made him look like a murderer, yet he couldn't kill Zod who was much worse. Give me a break.
