I just record HDTV and let the over-price-format-war-waging-HD manufacturers duke it out.

I record it onto my PC using a TV PC tuner card.
It is in HD.
My CW station on cable has some minute wiggly lines in it on the TV, but on the TV tuner it comes in perfect.

I use an ATI HDTV Wonder tuner card and SageTV v5 for PVR software.
