What did you think of his new power?

I think its great he finally gets superbreath.

Alright everyone what do you think of the superbreath look for smallville? Post during/after episode airs ok.

Yea i am so glad they are finally giving him superbreath. I have been saying for a long time their has been many oportunities they could have giving him the power in the past 5 years and all that. I hope the F/x look is cool. Being how that cw site clip was not finished F/x and all that. Here's hoping for a good look.

All I can say is FINALLY!

This should have happened back in S4 and I still don't understand why they broke with tradition of one power per season. But it is great for Clark to finally learn a new power. I have been looking forward to superbreath because it seems like an interesting power to watch him develop.

Here is something that makes no sense to me though.

The whole reason that Clark gets superbreath is because he gets a cold due to lack of his powers. However, he had his powers when he came back from the PZ. How did they just dissapear all of a sudden?

chlarkfan333
10-05-2006, 01:21 PM
I don't think he lacks powers. He's weak due to the cold he has. Chloe says something like "even with cold you still got it" when he pries part of the wall apart. Also he uses his vision (though they don't show it) to x-ray the wall.

I'm referring the to director's cut clip on the CW.

vyperman7
10-05-2006, 01:30 PM
From the description of this episode, Clark gets a cold because he loses his powers after returning from the PZ. My main gripe with this is that he had his powers when he returned. So I am just curious why he would lose them all of a sudden.

I have seen the director's cut clip as well, but that is a scene from later on in the episode.

chlarkfan333
10-05-2006, 01:34 PM
^^ I don't know why he loses his power all of a sudden of course and hopefully we'll have an answer to that within the next few hours. :)

I'm guessing he caught something while in the PZ which weakens his immune system and therefore his powers. That's where I thought that scene in the previews where he's getting bathed in sunlight would come in. Most think it's a deleted scene from Zod, but I think it will be in Sneeze. Of course, I might be completely wrong!

vyperman7
10-05-2006, 01:39 PM
That would be cool if they tie the disaese into the PZ. I am hoping thet go that route.

My main question is why wasn't superbreath the main subject of the advertising for this episode? You would think they would want that to be the main focus. In all the other power episodes, the power was always the main focus of the episode. In Sneeze it almost seems like a side story.

I just hope they show lana witnessing one of his superpowers for real one of these shows. maybe at the end is when they'll do it, but this could be a harmless one to show that. come on, he could do a mild superbreath and make lana really mystified, and it would be funny because it wouldn't be thought of as some amazing thing to be able to do. she would just say wtf?! that's his secret?

well superman has a lot more powers just that they are powers people find sucky. like superkiss and voice mimic and face changing and stuff like that.

vyperman7
10-05-2006, 02:45 PM
The superkiss should be banned from the powerlist. That has to seriously be the lamest thing ever.

I have never really read the comics so maybe someone can answer this for me. Was the superkiss created solely for the Superman films, or is there an actual superkiss memory stealing power in the comics as well?

Um. . the kiss power was really super hypnosis which actually was in the comics (in the 40's to 50's).
The shield prison was actually a fortress of solitude security measure that while they don't actually show in the comics, the do show similar hologram/offensive weapon technologies in the comics.
The telekentic finger thing and the great wall of China thing was ridiculous and I vote we burn the writers of the first 2 movies for that alone. (possibly throw salt in their wounds after the burning too)

Be patient. Just because it wasn't shown in this episode doesn't mean it will never be shown. He couldn't use it on Lex & Lana because they would turn into icicles and would have ended up like the girl from Cool (and those characters from Forever).

that would have been bad though if he froze lana up like an icicle. lol no more lana! :)

i think once clark uses superbreath a while during the season he will be able to control it more to freeze it. so we may not see the freeze part of it till the end of the season unless tptb decide to rush right into it and have him already figure it out.

I liked the effects very much. It's Chloe telling him to blow that pissed me off.

superhippie2000
10-06-2006, 09:48 AM
ya your not supposed to see air anyway so not having the mega effects is good. they only really need to use the effects when he is able to turn it into freeze breath then you get the cold look to it. its like superhearing they dont need to have the effects of his eardrum and stuff everytime he uses that power. just sometimes when its needed.

chlarkfan333
10-06-2006, 11:17 AM
Inhaling all the air from a room should have left Chloe gasping for breath, don't you think?

I loved the superbreath and they way it was handled. It should be a low-budget power for TPTB since they don't always have to show him inhaling like that and in fact, only show it the one time with the special effects.

BTW, did anyone notice just how large TW's hands looked when he was using them to drill in screws?

Superbreath is part of Superman so if you find that cheesey you have issues with Superman and not Smallville.

I liked the power scenes. I thought it was done pretty well. And I always like new power episodes.

Just something about that barn/sky scene harkened back to the uber-cheese of Season 1 that drives me nuts. I think that must be why some people like it though.

Not to mention that they live on a farm. Rain is essential to their crops.

TV Guide's description of next week's Smallville: The Kents are forced to sell the farm after a drought causes all their crops to dry up. On a positive note Clark is nice and tan after spending all his recent time at the lake.

Can one of you people who actually thinks Clark did it for Lois at least justify why you think that? Because really, there is nothing in the scene itself to suggest that idea. Lois had already left, and it seemed obvious that he wanted to clear the weather so their picnic wouldn't be ruined. How is Lois involved in that?

Guys, this is a fantasy show. Not gonna be entirely realistic or logical. It is what it is. A show about an orphaned alien who arrives on earth, lucks up and gets great parents, has some nifty abilities, and some colossal problems (for which he will come up with some interesting [I hope] solutions. And we get to watch.

Any claim that that was done for Lois is completely unsupported by the way that scene played out. If they wanted to clear it up so that Lois would go, they would have called her back. And they only invited her in the first place because she walked in on them as they were about to leave. Nobody called her up to invite her.

I thought it was cool, we rarely get to see him doing cool or fun stuff with his powers and to be honest I enjoyed it.

I think Clark didnt do it for either of them, he did it for the picnic, and also by his face he´s like sayint "here goes nothing". It wasnt for Lois or Chloe.

Im a Cloiser and belive me as much as I would have loved the that he did it cause he wanted Lois to tag along, the truth is I like being objective and it wasnt that at all. But it wasnt for Chloe either.

About it being a forshadowing of Clois, well I guess its up to everyone to decide I say it could be, but it could just as well not, so Im gona say no.

I don't often disagree with you, but I think it was sort of ambiguous whether Clark did it for Lois or Chloe and himself. Clouds or not, Clark and Chloe were goiing to the lake and invited Lois along because she is their friend. Clark heard Lois' complaint that it might rain, so Clark decides he has nothing to lose trying to blow the clouds away. I think it's suggested that Clark blew the clouds away as a nice gesture for Lois, but you could interpret the scene as Clark clearing the clouds for himself and Chloe as we don't really know if Lois decides to join them after all.

As to why they never invited Lois to begin with, it's anyone's guess. Perhaps Lois was at the paper. Smallville has a hard time with niggling little details like this. Just like Lana, Lex, or Chloe drive three hours to the Kents or Metropolis only to say a few words and then dart off without a "goodbye" or a "call you later". It's actually quite annoying.

Yeah i posted a thread before this episode aired whether it would cover ice & super-breath.
Most people voted that it would include ice breath as they are apparently the same power.
But im glad the writers didnt cover it as i always imagined Clark would develop it after super-breath.

They are still the same power, this episode just didn't show him learning to control the freeze part of his superbreath.

ya he needs to learn how to control his body tempature to make the air in his lungs cold.

if he breathes in alot of air outside would he be able to accidently suck in a bird or a chipmunk or something.

I could be being picky and greedy but I really wanted to see the freeze aspect of his super breath!!! And although it was a cool power, I think they could have shown more of the exhaling part than the inhaling part. I wanted to see a stream of air, rather than just a flying barn door, moving clouds or destroyed safe.

So yeah- I want to see stuff freeze!

you know that there's a difference between lung capacity and bowel capacity, right? If it was a problem, then it would have been apparent very early on in Clark's life. After all, he didn't develop his power, he discovered it.

Good question? I mean techically, you are letting air out whether you breath out or, you know..., so the same rules hould aply in both cases.

No, you don't get it: the reason Clark has super breath isn't because he blows it out super fast or anything, it's because he can hold a ridiculously ginormous amount of air in his lungs. So I don't think that the same rule would apply going the other way.

Dude, you just made my argument for me!:rotfl: Please don't make me go into details! I mean, imagine you are in company of pretty girl whom you want to impress, and you feel the need to let some air out, I am sure you know which body part I am alluding to, but you can't cos that would be rude and embarassing, so you hold it, and hold it, and hold it until you are alone............Do I need to go on..............................

I agree with the guy saying blowing air out his mouth and farting are different. He has to breath in alot and the blow for the super breath works. He would've noticed by now if it was a problem.

So when is the ice breath power coming? It seems that is the only power (apart from flying) that is left, although to be honest I am not sure that it is a power that was in the comics as well as the movies. I always loved the idea though that Superman had the power of fire and of ice.

Haha I was dying to see Clark sneeze in Lana's face. That would have been sweeeeeeet.......

I was a bit disappointed! Clark is sucking in air like a jet engine and Chloe's hair did not move! Not until he blew the wall open was there a tab bit of her hair moving! There really needs to be more wind movements! I think the FX dept really needs to consider all aspects of this superpower! It had the potential to be better than it was. Breath that can break down steel and blow a barn door miles away is going to do more than just a hair fluff up! Lets see some more visuals on this one guys!

It was okay but the lack of icebreath kind of made me mad. They should of had clark try to move the clouds but instead have it start snowing.

See, now I couldn't vote for any of the options because I was all 'meh' about the power itself but I loved the special effects/look of superbreath!
Personally, superbreath to me is not that cool. I'd rather see icebreath. (heh. pun intended!)

I thought the perfect opportunity to have Clark use his icebreath was in the firey situation at the end. It would have been neat to see him semi-freeze everything.

that was my thought as well! I was waiting for ice to form or something.

BTW, did anyone notice that the 'effect' for superbreath is basically the same for when Clark flies? Or at least seems freakishly similar? When I saw that I was forcibly reminded of Crusade and Kal-El's take off.

That take off was the best scene ever. Zod/Lex flying away with Lana could not compare......

Farting has nothing to do with Lung capacity or does it ? I don't think we use our lungs when farting so I don't see how Clark would cause havoc with a fart.....And btw superman is not human and maybe he doesn't fart...

Sorry if this was already answered but, is super vision the only major power left? I forget what other major ones he has. There is super strength, super speed, super/freeze breath, x-ray vision, heat vision, super vision, super hearing. Am I missing one?

Super breath and freeze breath are the same thing. Besides heat vision, superspeed, superstrength, flight, superjumping, impenetrability to most materials, superhearing, microscopic vision, telescopic vision and x-ray vision, there is also superhypnosis, (which he uses to hide his identity so that nobody sees through his identity. It was used later in the comic as an explanation to the rising skepticism about whether anybody would recognize supes) and superventriloquism. You were forgetting one!

Superbreath is an official, iconics Superman power. It is part of the whole package of Superman and always will be. Super-ventriloquism is a whole other ballgame and not even near in the same league as one of his main powers. We've seen him use it in just about every other TV incarnation, from Superman: The Movie, to Lois and Clark. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's your problem, it's something Superman needs to be complete, part of his arsenal.

I think it was pretty tight - slightly lacking in the physics, but great nonetheless and one of the powers that Superman has always had.

A power that Superman has had... at least a couple times.. was superfacial contortion!

I have been pondering the possibility that this power may make a comeback in that there is a distinct need for Clark to cover his identity. Too cheesy? I dunno?

MidgardDragon
08-03-2007, 12:18 AM
I'd say a definite yes to too cheesy. And we've had it confirmed several times that Al/Miles do not plan on showing the Superman years or how he conceals his identity from those that know his facial features already. Likely it will be a combination of glasses, downplayed mannerisms, a period of time between him not wearing the glasses and putting on the suit, and some sort of low-level hypnosis.

But all we will ever be able to do is speculate on that, most likely, and that's okay with me.

Also, super breath rocks, but it's unfortunate it wasn't used again until Freak. Great use of it in Freak though.

Amz16

Superbreath was an awesome effect in the show, but yeah it was a shame that there was such a gap in useage of it though, considering freak was the next time it was shown.

Hey, does Superman in comics has ability to blow so hard he freezes everything ?

You are on the bus when you suddenly realize ... you need to fart.
The music is really loud, so you time your farts with the beat. After
a couple of songs, you start to feel better as you approach your stop.
As you are leaving the bus, people are really staring you down, and
that's when you remember: you've been listening to your Ipod
