Jor-el was always pretty much all nice. He just wanted what was best for his son, a bit greedy and ruthless at times sure.. but nothing major or completely heartless

He's misunderstood. He's always been nice. He could have easily killed Martha of he wanted to.

Haha, right using a dead girl to trap Clark Kent in the cave wall is nice? How about putting J. Kent in a Coma, ya real nice. The list goes on.

JE has always been good. In Vessel Clark realized that he was trying to save the world.

I wish more people understood that, Trevor. Jor-El was never the evil dictator that Clark thought he was, he was just very serious and VERY concerned about his son's future. Jor-El exists to protect Clark, and to further him on the road to his destiny. As long as those he is speaking to agree with him on what must be done to protect Clark, he's very friendly and not mean at all. He can be very very evil when it comes to people refusing to do what he says, because what he says has always been in order to protect Clark.

Indeed, even look at the comment above after my post "using a dead girl to trap Clark Kent in the cave wall is nice? How about putting J. Kent in a Coma" Sure he used what he had to to get control of Clark when he was out of control and did not know what he was doing, plus he needed to show Clark that his petty thoughts of beliefs are not always the end of the world and he is just full of angst at the age he is currently at so he needs to do what he has to in order to protect Clark. Just look at the diffrences of teen and adult Clark adult Clark would be upset in so many ways at his actions and give him a huge lecture and tell him to smarten up and start to grow up.

How do you know Jor-El intentionally put Pa in a coma? There’s nothing to suggest it was nothing more than the cause of unfortunate happenstance—other than the (another) weak attempt at misdirection by Al/Miles.

jor-el was never nice nor was he particularly cruel he just did what he thought was in the best intrest of his son. clark refused to take his advice and rebelled against jor-el's warnings because he was being stupid and stubborn.and as with most actions there are consequences. just because clark had to pay for all the mistakes he made people assosiate jor-el as being mean or cruel wich is simpley not the case.

Honestly, I think that using Kara and threatening to kill JK to get Clark was kind of a desperate last resort type thing. JK made a deal with Jor-El to give Clark to him, but since JK refused to at the end, Jor-El had to get him somehow.

I can't stand SV's version of Jor-El. I want a better explanation too than "oh, he was always nice! No, really!" :p

He was never nice, but he was always a good guy (as in not a villain.)

I didn't saw any lightswitch, Jor-El wasn't being nice, he was being honest, like he always was.

He has always been good (nice, never, but nice and good are two diferent things), but always missunderstood, cause Clarkie boy cant seem to ask the right questions, if any. And it is also Jor el´s fault being so kryptic and all, but not his entirely his fault I mean he IS a coputer program.

Right, because killing Lindsey and threatening Jonathan's life wasn't heartless.

jor-el believes the ends justify the means. If the body of a girl who would have died in the meteor shower is what it takes to help a troublesome last son of krypton, then whatever.

Keep in mind, Jor-El fell in love with a human and she was killed. That would make me kind of pissed off at the human race. Jor-El put Jonathan in a coma but he never killed him. As soon as Jor-El lost Kal-El, he woke Jonathan up. Jonathan died because of a balance in nature, exchange of lives. While it is Jor-El's fault that Clark was brought back to life, it wasn't his fault that Jonathan died. Jor-El had no idea who would die, which is why he got all defensive at Clark blaming him for Martha's disease in Solitude. Jor-El actually believed that Martha would die and didn't anticipate it being a trick by the brain interactive construct.

All valid points zooks. The thing is, they've somewhat changed Jor-El's opinions of some humans, like Martha. People change, true. But Jor-El is DEAD. What remains is an interactive kryptonian program that reacts like Jor-El.

He was being honest (bastard), like always. Jor-El always cared about Clark and his destiny, I don't why he wouldn't thank the woman that raised Clark.

Because Clark was a"gift" that she and Jonathon had prayed for.
