Hey, Brian
It's already up! I'm just going to add something to the prologue.
Prologue: Okay guys this story will tell about true love. And how true love comes through in so many ways.. even when things look dark, gloomy, and hopeless. Basically, it's a story about change.. and how one wrong mistake can change your life forever. As the characters discover there's more to a person than what's on the outside.. and what they do.

Chapter 1: Regrets
Clark laid in his twenty thousand dollars bed filled with the most fancy laces and the most comfortable pillows of only soft feathers transported from Asia.
He couldn't sleep at all. Every night it was the same... he would get the same nightmare that kept haunting him until the pain was too much... that it put him to sleep sweating and filled with regrets. Regrets of how his life could have turned out if he made the right choices. The betrayals he's been through... the lost... the pain... and the many heartaches.
He now works for Lex... the devious and cruel man who found out his secrets so many years ago. Who's devoting his life to use Clark. And everything he has. Lex wanted to make Clark feel the pain, the hate that he too had to face because of his family name.
Lex has been hiring Clark to do his dirty work for so many years now. If there was anyone Lex didn't like.. or went against him he would have Clark, his own personal assassin kill them off one by one.
Clark had always followed what Lex wanted to do.... every step because he was afraid.. Afraid that without Lex he would be lost.. Lex was like a brother to him.. one that showed him the way... one that gave him this enormous 125,000,000 manor to live in.. and all he ever had to do was... kill.
Clark finally drifted off to another nightmare. Which was actually very, very real for him.
*******************Dream Sequence******************************
Clark was walking home from school in his plaid shirts. He was only 16 but he was bad.. bad to the bone. He would lie and steal all the time. It wasn't really him.. but his influence by Lex ever since he was little has caused him to be this way.
Ever since the 6th grade Lex had known what Clark could do and forced him to steal... lie.. taught him how to be bad.. at first he like being able to do whatever he wanted-whenever he wanted... but when his parents and him would always fight he tried to stop... but Lex wouldn't let him. Lex showed him how everything could be his.. and he wouldn't have to live on a farm.. and do chores and drive broken down cars.
He's got his own girlfriend. A hot one indeed. Her name was Paige Willis, Clark truely loved her from the moments he laid eyes on her. But the truth was all she was attracted to in him was his money...
Clark arrived at the farm seeing Lex's Porsche parked outside. He quickly entered excited to see what he and Lex were doing today.
Once he came in he found his parents tied to a pole and Lex with 3 other minions with a gun pointing to their heads. But with them was Paige dressed in a very revealing shirt and tight skirt.
"What's going on?" Clark asked worrying seeing how Lex was already beaten his parents.
"Nothing Clark.. I just decided that your parents keep interfering with my plans.. and yours too. So I'm doing both of us a favor and killing them once and for all." Lex said coldly.
"Clark!! Please Help Us!!" He heard the desperate scream from his Mother as one of the minions kicked her in the shine. He stood there frozen not knowing what to do. He loved his parents but they keep getting in the way.. maybe Lex was right this was for the better... No! They took me in.. when others wouldn't I can't let them die!!
"NO!! You are not going to kill them!! I won't let you!!" He said superspeeding taking a gun out of the minion about to shot his mother.
"Clark, Clark, Clark, Our destiny is much bigger then they can imagine... you don't need them! You and I are going to rule the world!! And they are the sacrifices we need to make!!" Lex screamed in a cool and harsh tone.
Clark looked into Jonathon's face.. filled with pity, pain, and mostly disappointed... His own father turned against him... gave up on him... this was the man that stood behind him all the way when he was young.. the man who took him in and kept his secret. Clark felt like his heart was about to exposed.. how could he have drifted so far apart from his own parents.
Martha's face was filled the same painful emotions... except she was scared of what was going to happen to them.. Clark couldn't let Lex kill his parents.. no matter what!
"NO!! NO!! I WON'T LET YOU!!.... No matter what... I will save them.." Clark yelled with frustration and anger towards Lex who stood there still confident as ever.
"Clark, Clark... I know your fast... but you don't think you can save both of them do you???" Lex asked before letting out a huge smirk and a slight laugh.
Clark's face went totally red filled with anger!! He heard the mans cock there guns and point it closer to his parents.
"Clark.. please don't make it so difficult. All I have to do is give the word.. they pull the trigger. Then we could get on our with our lives. You and I can dominate.. rule the world!! Come on Clark... it's just that simple.." Clark said taking a seat on the couch waiting for Clark's answer.
"Clark!! Please!! You can take them!! We didn't raise you to be a quitter." She said trying to bring him some hope.
"Yeah, Clark.. take me down!! What are you going to be?? Huh? A farm boy... taking orders from his parents.. milking cows for dimes? Or baying hay?? Come on Clark. Think about." Lex said with another one of his devious smirks.
"NO!! I won't let you!! It ends right here!!" He said about to go into superspeed. When Lex grabbed Paige and points a gun to her head!
"Lex!! What the **** are you doing?? This wasn't part of the plan!!" She yelled in fear while Lex came closer and closer to Clark.
"LEX!! DON'T!!" He yelled seeing how scared Paige was.
"Make a decison Clark!! Your beloved girlfriend!! Or your parents!!" Lex yelled seizing the gun closer to her head and giving the signals for his men to get really close to the Kents.
"Clark!!" He heard both of his parents scream!!
He stood frozen with fear.. could he lose his parents or the love of his life? He couldn't chose..
"Let my parents go!! I'll never see them again... I promise. Let them live. And you know that Paige means everything to me... so if you let them all live I promise I will work for you... and be you servant forever." He said staring down at the floor.
"Hahahah!! You would like that wouldn't you!! But Nah! I don't think it's going to happen!!" He said to Clark who immediately looked up.
"Clark please!!" He heard Paige scream and try to wiggle free.
"Clark... we will always be with you.. son. No matter where we are. We forgive you." Martha's voice roamed in his head and all of a sudden the guilt was too much for him to take. His heart was hard.... the forgiveness in Martha's voice made him see.. that he couldn't change the past but he does have a future if he makes the right choice.
"OH... I can't take this! SHOOT!! NOW!!" Lex screamed.
<everything goes into slow motion>
"NOOOO!!" Clark superspeeds towards his mother, ready to block the bullets. Martha's face was green as she closes her eyes.
Right after he blocks out all of the bullets towards Martha then runs faster then he ever has towards Jonathon. But he was too late... 2 bullets went straight into Jonathon's head and blood started to slowly poor out.
<Regular Motion>
Lex turned his gun away from Paige's head and pointed straight at Martha. While Clark stood next to his father's motionless body.
"BAM, BAM!!"
Clark turns around to see 2 bullets piece right through Martha's heart as she collapsed into the ground.
****************End Of Dream Sequence***********************
Clark woke up screaming "MOM!! DAD!! NO!!" He looked around.. it was always the same dream... he could never move on.. it was almost like his parents were haunting him.

Chapter 2 - Remembering Past Mistakes
Clark walked into his kitchen. He needed a glass of water after the last nightmare. For a while the nightmares had stopped. But, they had come back full force. It was torture for Clark....and it was his own fault. Oh, Lex bore the bulk of the blame. Afterall, he wouldn’t even be having this nightmares if he hadn’t given in to Lex’s blackmail. And Lex wouldn’t be able to blackmail Clark if he hadn’t told him his secret.
It had all started at the bridge...
***Flashback to freshman year....the bridge accident*****
A delivery truck is crossing the bridge as a role of barb wire bounces out and lays across the road. The driver was to busy talking on his cell phone to notice. He just drove on without stopping.
Lex is driving down the road at 90 MPH. He just loved racing his car down the roads of Smallville. Little did he know the twist that fate had in store for him and a boy he had not seen since he was 5 years old. Clark Kent.
Clark was using his super speed to travel down the road. He had stopped in the middle of the road on the bridge because he loved it there. The waters gave him a sense of peace that he rarely could enjoy. He didn’t have any friends. Pete Ross had moved away just after meeting Clark. His mother had been promoted to Judge of the district court in Topeka. Chloe Sullivan never moved to Smallville and Lana Lang had Left for Metropolis with her Aunt Nell when she was 5. The death of her parents had been to great for little Lana to remain in the place that had killed them.
As Clark stood at the bridge pondering his life and the lack of friends to talk to. Lex came barrelling down the road. Lex’s phone rang, which caused him to look down...this would almost prove fatal as he didn’t see the roll of barb wire in the middle of the road. Lex swerved to avoid the wire and ran straight into Clark Kent. The Car with Lex strapped in it and Clark propelled off the side of the bridge and into the water below.
Clark didn’t even think. He sprang into action and ripped the top off the sports car. He reached in to retrieve the passenger. Clark had just assumed that whoever was in there was unconscious. It would turn out to be the greatest mistake of his life. Because, Lex was not only conscious.....he had seen everything that Clark had just done.
After pulling Lex from out of the water and onto the shore, Lex just stared at Clark. “Who or what are you?” Clark looked at Lex unable to speak. How much should he tell Lex....what harm could it do now? He had already seen him open his sports car like a piece of paper.
“It’s complicated. I’m not you’re normal kansas farmboy.”
Lex just looked open mouth at Clark. He stared at Clark and then the water where his sports car was sunk at. “Ya think?”
“My names Clark. What’s yours?”
Lex couldn’t help but notice how naive this kid was. That was something he could use. “I’m Lex....Lex Luthor”. Lex put on his most charming smile. “I wanted to thank you for saving my life.”
Clark was put at ease by Lex’s friendly smile and easy going nature. Maybe Lex would be his friend. “Your welcome.”
“How did you do that? Save me, I mean?”
Clark realized that he couldn’t get out of it. So, he took a chance that Lex was one of the good guys. “I have certain abilities that allowed me to save you.”
“Such as?”
Clark looked down. He didn’t know if he should tell Lex. “Can I trust you?” Lex was laughing on the inside. This kid really was green. “Of course you can....you just saved my life. The least I can do is keep your secret.”
“I’m super strong and nearly invulverable. Oh, and I’m super fast too.” Clark waited for the other shoe to drop. But, it didn’t. Lex just smiled and put his arm around Clark. “It’s okay Clark. I won’t betray you. I’d be dead if it weren’t for you. I think we’re going to be the best of friends”.
************End Flashback************************
That friendship had only lasted 2 months before Lex blackmailed Clark into working for him. Lex had threatened to kill his parents and anyone else he cared about if Clark didn’t do exactly what Lex told him to do.
And what Lex wanted Clark for was a hired assassin. Clark was to take care of all of Lex’s enemies. Without question and without mercy.
Clark had resisted at first. Until the first of many close calls for his parents. From that point on Lex owned Clark Kent. Clark killed when Lex told him. No questions asked. And Clark paid for those transgressions in the form of a guilty conscious and the nightmares. Lex knew that Clark had the nightmare...but, didn’t care. As long as Clark did his job Lex was happy.
Clark was very well paid for what he did. He had several million dollars saved away. He had used a great deal of his wealth to save the Kent farm. His father had resisted at first....but, eventually Clark had convinced him that it was for the best. He couldn’t be there anymore to work the farm and Jonathan couldn’t do it alone. So, Clark paid for the extra farm hands and for all expenses.
Jonathan Kent had tried on numerous occasions to find out what Lex had Clark do that would pay so well. But, Clark had always refused to tell him. Afraid of his reaction to his son being a hired killer. Clark knew that Jonathan would have never allowed Clark to do that, even if it meant his own life. Which is why the Kent’s were completely in the dark regarding Clark’s activities.
Clark didn’t even live in Smallville anymore. He had a penthouse overlooking the park. It was one of the finest apartments in Metropolis. There were people on waiting lists 5 years long to get into one just like it. To Clark it was a prison. A reminder of what one mistake had cost him.
Clark’s girlfriend Paige would be around at 8Am to take him to breakfast. She was an undeniable beautifull woman. 5'9" tall with rusty red hair and a very voluptuous figure. She was sex on wheels...and she knew it. And used it to her advantage. She could be had by any man for the right price. And Clark had the means to pay it.
Clark thought that he would gladly give his soul to be out of this life he was trapped in. But, there was no way out. To keep his family safe he would continue to do Lex’s bidding until such time as Lex decided he didn’t need him anymore. Clark thought that Hell and freezing over would be more appropriate phrases to describe when that time would arrive.....

Chapter 3 - The Assignment
Lana Lang was working in her lab. She and Lex had the latest test results ready for the Navy on their new computer missile tracking system. It was an important contract that their company needed in order to survive. And it had been a project beret of problems. But, she thought that she finally had all the bugs worked out of the system. If it had just been a Luthor Corp project it wouldn’t have mattered so much. But, LANLEX Industries wasn’t a part of Luthor Corp. It was a separate entity of Lex’s other holdings. Something that both Lex and her had poured their personal resources into to get it off the ground.
The Technology was copywrited under Lana’s personal name. And Lex provided most of the financial backing. If they succeeded, LANLEX would be a bigger profit maker than Lex Corp could ever hope to be. But, it all depended on this one test. And Lana was determined to make sure that test went off without a hitch.
Lex walked into the Lab. He saw Lana working deligently at her computer and was struck again by how lovely a woman she was. Truth be told, he could care less about this company. He was only involved with it to be next to Lana. To show her where her place should be. At his side. “Hey Lana....how goes the project?” Lana jumped and squealed in shock. She had been concentrating so hard that she hadn’t heard him come in. “Lex...you scared me! Please knock next time...my heart can’t take to many scares like that.”
“Sorry Lana....so, how’s it going. Are we all set for this afternoon?” Lana put her pen down and regarded Lex. He was dressed all in white with a thin black tie and an open color Armani black shirt. She knew he looked like a very desirable man to most women. But, Lana was just not interested. Even though she knew that Lex wanted her desperately. She just couldn’t see herself with someone like Lex. He did nothing for her on a physical level.
“I’m throwing a party afterwards at the Mansion. There’s some people who would like to meet the inventor of our little enterprise.” Lana looked at Lex in disgust. She hated parties and he knew that. “Can’t you just go in my place?”
Lex was getting irritated with her constant refusal to meet him in social events. “No I can’t. You’re a partner in this business and the Inventor of the Technology. Lana, you have to realize that this is PR work. We’re selling our product to the movers and shakers in this Industry. Not just for now but for our future products as well. We have a reputation to build and this is the first step. Just put on your best business attire and show up. Nothing to sexy though...we don’t want to give the wrong impression to any potential investors.” Lana didn’t like the implication of what Lex meant. “And what impression would that be?”
“That you’re all beauty and no brains. That you’re trading off on your looks instead of selling the technology.” Lana stood with fire in her eyes. “WHO THE HELL IS SAYING I’M USING MY LOOKS FOR PERSONAL GAIN!!!!????”
“Hold it down Tiger....I never said that. But, perception is everything Lana. If you come dressed in a cocktail number instead of a business suit then people will get the wrong impression. I’m just trying to protect you and the company.”
“Okay, Lex. I’ll be there. I won’t be happy about it....but, I’ll be there.” Lex smiled at her compromise. “That’s all I ask Lana. See you at the test this afternoon. Knock em dead.”
Later that afternoon Lana demonstrated her tracking system not only to the navy, but to the air force and the army as well. The test was a resounding success. All the brass were just floored with it’s level of sophistication and simplicity to use. All three branches of the armed forces promised to have the contracts completed and in their hands by the end of the week. Then they would work out a time table for deployment and upkeep of the system.
As Lana made her way to her office. She couldn’t be more pleased. Her company was going to be solvent and she was going to have all the money she could ever dream of. Maybe, she’d even let Lex buy her out. That way she wouldn’t have to deal with him anymore. As she looked at the clock she noticed that it was getting very late....she needed to get changed for that stupid party.
-----------<Lex’s Mansion Later that Night>------------------
Lex was busy making the rounds to all the important people at the party. Lana was late as usual. But, she promised that she’d be here and he would hold her to that. As Lex as getting himself another drink he noticed Clark come in the front door with Paige. Lex waved him over. “Clark, Paige how are the both of you this eve?”
“Very annoyed at being summoned to this party is how I am Lex. The only reason I came is because Paige twisted my arm.” Lex nodded his head to Paige. “Then I owe you my gratitude Paige. It was very important to me that Clark was here tonight.”
“It was nothing Lex. I love a good party, even if Clark would rather stay home and brood.” Clark ignored that last comment from Paige. He didn’t know why he stayed with her. She really wasn’t his type, except that she was very beautifull and tolerated his strange habits. But, more importantly, she didn’t ask to many questions about his special powers. He knew she suspected...but, she didn’t care as long as the money kept coming in. “Paige, would you excuse Clark and me? We have some private business to discuss.”
“Of course Lex. I want to mingle anyway. See you later sweetie?” Clark kissed her on the cheek. “Sure...just stay out of trouble.”
Lex and Clark made their way around the room talking and greeting Lex’s guest’s. They finally made it to Lex’s private study...where Lex let Clark in and closed the door behind him. “So Clark, is Davidson dead?”
“Yeah, he’s dead. He feel off the top of his penthouse tonight. Suicide.” Lex started to laugh. “Why do you always make it look like a suicide when you kill them?”
“It’s cleaner that way. Less messy.”
“Why don’t you just snap their neck? You’re strong enough to do that in a split second.” Clark was becoming annoyed. Wasn’t it bad enough that he had to murder for this man? Now he was criticizing how he does it. “Look Lex...it’s bad enough you have me murder for you. Don’t start telling me how to do it.”
“Watch it Clark. You’re parents are only alive because you want them that way. They can be dead in an instant if I wanted them to be. Just you remember that.” Clark clinched his jaw and grinded his teeth. “As if I needed to be reminded of that. The fact that you’re prepared to murder them the moment I don’t do what you say is the only reason I work for you.”
“You just remember that. Now, your next assignment will be arriving here tonight. “ Clark rolled his eyes. “Another hit? I just did one for you.”
“Relax...I don’t want her dead yet. Unless she decides not to play ball with me.”
“Meaning?” Lex sipped his drink as he contemplated telling Clark his plans. “Fine, I guess you need to know the details if you’re case her for me. Lana Lang is my partner over at LANLEX. And either she becomes Mrs. Luthor or she dies so I can have the company free and clear.”
Clark downed his scotch in one gulp. Alcohol had no effect on him so it didn’t matter. He did like the taste however. “Do you have a time table for this possible hit?
“If no progress is made then a month from now. For now, I just want you to befriend her. Get to know her so it can be done painlessly if necessary.”
“Okay...fine. When do I meet her?” Lex guided Clark back out into the ballroom. “No time like the present. She should be here by now.”
Lex and Clark made their way across the floor....talking to people as they went. Clark noticed that Paige was talking to someone much shorter than she was. They were engrossed in a conversation that had Paige very interested. Clark thought that to be strange. Paige was never that interested in what other people had to say...especially other women. To much competition for her.
“Aw Paige...I see you’ve found our guest of honor. Lana Lang May I present one of my associates. Clark Kent.” As Lana turned she was shocked at how far she had to look up to see Clark’s face. But, she wasn’t complaining. Because the view was just so delicious as she gradually looked at him thru hungry eyes. “Nice to meet you Mr. Kent.” Clark couldn’t speak. He could barely breath. He shook Lana’s hand and just stared at her. She had to be the most stunningly beautifull woman he had ever laid eyes upon. How could Lex even consider harming a hair on this woman’s head?

Chapter 4: Impressions
The world was spinning around to Clark. He was sitting next to the most beautiful girl he ever laid eyes on. He kept sneaking in a few peeks ever once in a while. He made sure Lex wasn't watching when he did though because he didn't want to make a stupid mistake like falling for the girl Lex was madly in love with.
Lex, Lana, Clark, Paige, and a couple of Lex's richest clients were sitting around an exclusive table. All Lex could think of was impressing Lana. He'd hate to have to kill her but if she wasn't Mrs. Luthor in a month he had no choice.
After the band which Lex had booked to perform finished, Lex stood up and clinked his glass lightly. He waited for everyone in the room to get quiet.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for attending my small party tonight. It is indeed to launch up a new and improved invention for our government. Which not only was tested successfuly with outstanding quality. But it is now the number one instrument used by all parts of the government. Ladies and Gentlemen, I see a future.. a future that LANLEX would like make you a part of. Now I want to hand this little party over to my beautiful, intelligent, and absolutely wonderful business partner Lana Lang." Lex announced and smiled brightly at Lana.
Lex clapped his hands along with everyone around in the room. Lana slowly got up, she was really nervous about what to say.. not only was she new to all of this but she never really went anything like this party before.
She felt like she stood out when she was at parties with Lex. Not because of her beauty because she never thought of herself as being any better than anyone else.. but everyone there was either in their 30's or 40's. Sometimes even 60's. She was only 20 and the youngest business person there. Worst, most of the people she met never took her serious.. they didn't even think the inventions were her’s to begin with! They always thought she was just another pretty face who got the attention of Lex Luthor and was using him.
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen for coming tonight.. it's an honor to be here. It is true that LANLEX’s newest invention is a big hit with the government. I hope you would invest and take interest in it. I spent many days and hours of my life making it advance as possible. I'm just glad the hard work paid off. Thank you once again and have a wonderful evening." Lana said shyly looking at the audience.
Once she sat down everyone began to clapp as the band begin to play again.
"That was a wonderful... short.. but wonderful speech." He tried to play his charm into her. But got a quick 'look' from Lana so he immediately backed off.
"Thanks.. it was all so sudden.. " She said eyeing Lex who smiled playfully.
"What?? Your going around unnoticed by the people so much I thought everyone should know the brains behind LANLEX. Come on.. you know it's great to have the attention." Lex argued playfully too.
"It nerve wrecking! I paniced when you said my name! Next time warn me." She said turning away from Lex to Paige and Clark.
"Clark.. what is your job? Paige tells me you work for Lex? How come I haven't seen you around?"Clark began to studder .Which he hasn't done since he became Lex's personal assassin. Paige giggled knowing this is the first time Clark has ever studdered.. ever.
"Well... I work for Lex as his assistant. I work and support his policy’s and business proposal’s! I help him out." Clark told her steadily trying to make it sound as honest as possible. It was horrible having to lie to everyone he knew but Lex.. but lying to Lana. The only person he might actually like.
"Yes.. see Clark isn't around much because he travels the world.. reports the business and other news to me personally... some people find it weird but I trust Clark.. and he's really helpful when I can't trust the news. He helps me with a lot of choices and he's great." Lex smiled with relieved that Clark had fast thinking because he didn't want to blow his cover.
"Wow. I hope to see you soon Clark... Paige.. Lex.. I'm going to get some air.. then I'm leaving." Lana started to put down her napkin and silverware.
"What?!! The dancing hasn’t even started!" Lex asked extremely irritated. He finally got her to come and she decides to leave early?? Was she that shy??
"Oh... I have a big day tomorrow.. " Lana told them. Which was the truth. She spends most of her days working on her science projects and inventions. And when she's not doing that she would spend her time running LANLEX because she needed to pickup the slack because Lex sometimes had to run his other businesses.
"But we just launched your newest invention." Lex said knowing she wasn't going out with anyone else.
He's known her for years now. Her aunt Nell and Lex were business partners in land and coffee shops. He has been admiring Lana since she was in high school. She was intelligent and at the same time extremely gorgeous along with her loyalty. She had graduated 2 years earlier than expected, so he decided to bring her into his company.. then with their combined efforts they launched LANLEX. She was always hard working.. Lex couldn’t remember anytime when she's had a boyfriend or anything serious with anyone. She was always in a book or doing experiments. He was fascinated by her, as time grew he fell rapidly in love with her. But she never really felt the same.
"I know.. but I can't.. I have so much work ahead of me.. I just want to get an early start tomorrow." Lana said apologizing as she begins to get up.
"Lana.. Can’t you please stay.. at least until we dance. I mean you don't want to leave this early.. this is our party.. and leaving early would look really rude." Lex told her gripping her arms but very gently.
"I..I.. " She said looking around the table of people who nodded for her to stay.
"And tomorrow... you have to have a day off. It's Saturday for goodness sake! You have to take a break or else you'll end up the richest women in the century but have no one to share it with." He slowly got her to sit down once again.
"Lana! You've got Lex! He's filthy rich! If I were you I wouldn't work a day in my life! And yet your spending all your time working and studying! Have some fun!" Paige told her in a preppy and high voice.
Lana smiled politely to her. "I can't.. (chuckles) Lex isn't mine.. and I want to be independent.. I want to earn what I have.. not from someone else. But you have Clark... your truly lucky.. I don't have anyone." She said looking away from Lex who knew it was his cue.
"Lana.. you'll always have me.. If you need anything.. anything at all.. just say so. I'll be there faster then lighten!" Lex exclaimed to her. Lana just smiled politely not saying anything else to him.
She observed Clark and Paige.. they look like a nice couple.. it just seemed like Paige was just in it for the money. She was curious about the vibe she was getting from Clark, he doesn't seem like he's a bad guy.
"So are you guys married??" She asked them. Clark choked on his salad while Paige spat out her martini.
"I guess not!" Lana looked surprised. "Girl!! I'm not old enough to settle down for good! And Clark's never pop the question!" She told Lana almost laughing and shocked.
"Sorry.. I.. I" Lana studdered once she saw how surprised everyone was.
"It's OK Lana.. your not the only one who's ever thought we would be married... you had good intentions." Clark told her sweetly.
"Thanks." Lana said. As another song began to play Lex pulled Lana to the dance floor while Paige pulled Clark. They all danced for a couple of songs until Lana couldn’t stand it anymore. She excused herself and walked out onto the balcony.
Lana stood starring into the sky. It was a very cold November and her mind wasn't in the right place. She continued to stare, completely lost in the glow of the moon until she heard footsteps coming.
She immediately turned around to see the nervous and surprised Clark. "OH!.. I.. I.. Sorry. I didn't mean too.. I'm.. I'm going to leave.. " He quickly turned around to go.
"No.. No.. wait. I don't mind.. really. Stay. I'll leave.. I've been here long enough anyway." She said walking towards the door.
"Um.. how about we both stay? It's kind of lonely up here by myself.. " He told her holding her arms back. She was a little nervous but she would really like the company considering how lonely it has been for her.
"Um.. yeah.. " She managed to say as she continues to lean on the balcony of the Luthor mansion. "Lex is looking for you.." Clark said flatly.
"He'll never find me.. what are you doing up here anyway?" She asked looking at him as he stares at the city. "I come up here a lot.. I don't like parties.. it's too loud.. I enjoy quiet nights. You know.. a day when you could just settle down.. read a book. No one does that anymore." He told her softly still starring away at the sight.
"Same here.. I'm not much of a party person." She told him. "How long have you and Lex been working together?" He asked.
"3 years. But the company just started a year ago. And I've known Lex since I was in high school. You?" "I've just known Lex for a couple of years too.. he offered me an opportunity I couldn't refuse."
"Yeah.. Lex has the tendency to do that to people... " Lana told him as they sat down on the white chairs. "You have no idea.." He told her.
"You know.. Lex has a thing for you.. " Clark told her as she looks up to him in surprise. "How do you know?" She asked curiously. "He told me.. but the question is why aren't you interested in him.. do you have someone else?" He asked. He didn't want her to be with a slim ball like Lex.. but he definitely didn't want to kill her.
"No... I just.. I don't think Lex is the right guy for me.. I don't date a lot.. at all. But.. Lex just doesn't feel right." She told him sadly. He was shocked! 'She didn't date at all?? A girl like that not dating at all?? Is she gay? No it can't be!' He thought to himself. Lana saw Clark's face and knew what he was thinking.
"Oh.. NO!! It's not like that! I'm not gay.. it's just I'm really busy sometimes.. and I just haven't found Mr. Right yet." She told him smiling.
'How could she know what I was thinking or feeling? Maybe it was my face.. darn I should be more careful.. I don't want to hurt her feelings.. I've got to convince her to go out with Lex.. She is one person I don't want to kill.'
'I don't want to lie to everyone about the real me.. but no one understands.. If they find out.. everyone would see me differently. I guess the work and the business is a good excuse for them.. but I don't know if I can hide it anymore.'

Chapter 5 - Stalking the Target
The next morning Clark was taking a hot shower. So hot that it would have burned a normal man. But, it had no effect on Clark. And he needed the heat to burn away the filth that he felt from his latest assignment from Lex. Get close to Lana Lang, and if necessary, put her in a grave. He had always regretted every life that he had taken on Lex’s orders, but he knew that if he had to kill Lana it would be the greatest regret of his life. How many more life’s would he have to take before he finally said enough. How many more people must die in order to safeguard his adoptive parents from Lex’s retribution?
After taking his shower he dressed and went into the kitchen for breakfast. There was a message from lex on his answering machine. He pressed the play button and groaned at it’s content. “Clark...go to LANLEX today and start getting closer to Lana. She needs to trust you and I need to find out how she really feels about me. Call me later with a progress report.”
Lex was nothing if not single minded. Once his mind was set on something, he never gave up. Clark should know. That was how he ended up in his predicament. Clark thought about killing Lex in order to save his parents, but Lex had already considered that contingency. In the event of his death a contract would go out world wide for the death of Martha and Jonathan Kent. So, it was with regret that Clark had to make sure that Lex never died. For Lex’s death would seal his parents fate. As great as his powers were....he couldn’t be there to protect them 24/7.
Later that morning Clark arrived at the offices of LANLEX Industries. He stopped by the security station and presented his identification, asking if Lana Lang was in yet. He was directed up to her office on the top floor. On the way there he noticed how busy all the labs and production facilities were. Lana had wasted little time in gearing up the company to put the government contracts to work. He wondered by much money this was actually going to make Lex and Lana. And who would eventually end up with all that cash.
Clark knocked on Lana’s door. He was surprised when she told Clark to come in. She didn’t know he was coming to see her this morning. “Hi Lana. How did you know it was me?”
“Mr. Kent...you surprise me. This is a high tech facility. Didn’t you realize that not only was I informed of your arrival. But, I’ve been following your movements down the hallway as you walked here.” Clark could just kick himself. He was way to distracted. He would need to pay closer attention to what was going on around himself. Of course LANLEX had state of the art surveillance system. Spy’s are everywhere. “Sorry Lana. My mind must have been on other matters. I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Don’t worry about it Clark. They must have been very important for you to be so lost in thought. Was it Luthor Corp business?” Clark regarded the pretty brunette. He hated lying to someone so nice. But, he had secret’s to protect. “It was a personal matter. Nothing to be concerned about.”
“Whatever you say Clark. What brings you by this morning?” Lana was doing her best not to eyeball Clark to much. But, it was difficult for her not to pay attention to such a delicious piece of eye candy. “Lex wanted me to check out the upgrade to the production facility. He wanted my input as to how quickly we can get the product into the government’s hands.”
Lana did not like the sound of that one bit. “Now Lex has you checking up on me?” Clark kicked himself for that comment. He should have known that she would react that way. “I’m sorry Lana. It was my idea. I have had extensive experience in setting up production lines and keeping companies on track. With everything riding on this contract from all the branch’s of the military. I felt it in Lex’s best interest, and yours, if I looked things over. I’m sorry if I overstepped my authority.”
Clark’s face was so apologetic and cute and Lana couldn’t stay angry with him. “That’s okay Clark. I welcome your input. And if I find it sound I’ll even use it. You’re right, we do need this contract to be filled without any setbacks.” Lana cancelled her afternoon appointments and took Clark on a tour. They talked about what improvements could be made to improve productivity without sacrificing quality. It was a good opening for Clark. He had started laying the groundwork to their business relationship. Then he could work on building a personal relationship with her. Just in case Clark had to do what Lex had assigned him to do.
AS they were heading back to her office Lana could feel the confusion in Clark’s mind. Usually she could block out other people’s emotions. But, Clark’s were especially powerful when he was this close. She wondered what Clark would think if he knew she had this skill. Or about the other things she was capable of doing. She wondered if he would consider her a freak and not want anything more to do with her.
After leaving Lana’s office he headed back to Lex’s mansion to report on his progress with Lana. He hated to do it, but Lex insisted upon regular updates when Clark was on an assignment. As he entered Lex’s study he found him looking over some files behind his desk. “Clark...how did it go today?”
“Fine. No problems. I told her that I was there to look over the operation and possible make suggestions to improve productivity. She was resistant at first, but later gave me a tour and listened to my advice.”
“That’s it? What did she say about me?” Clark really hated Lex and his agenda’s. “Look Lex, this takes time. She’s not going to just start confiding in me right away. You’re going to have to give me a couple of weeks to get her to trust me.”
“I trust I don’t need to remind you about the deadline?” Clark really hated Lex right now....more than he ever did. “No Lex...you don’t have to remind me. Just keep your shorts on. When have I ever failed an assignment?”
“If you have ever failed an assignment your parents would be dead right now. So, I don’t think it necessary to go into that any further.” Clark narrowed his eyes and grinded his teeth so loudly that a deaf man could hear them. “One of these days you’re going to issue that threat one to many times. And then you’ll see just how dangerous I can really be.” Clark turned and stormed out of Lex’s study without saying another word. Clark had another matter to take care of. He wanted to stop out at his parents farm. Maybe he could repair the rift that had grown over the years between them. It was a chance he had to take. He missed them......

Chapter 6: A Date with Lex
Lex walked into Lana's Lab on his way back from LuthorCorp. He just wanted to get close to her as much as possible. He wanted her.. he wanted her bad. But he knew if she doesn't fall in love with him in a month.. it's over. He'll have Clark kill her.. then he would gain control of the company.
Lana could sense Lex's emotions for her.. but she tried her hardest to block it out. It was deep, deep passion and desires. She flinched at the thought of being with Lex.
As he came closer to her desk sitting on the edge. She didn't take her eyes off her laptop but she managed to pay attention to what he was saying.
"Lana, You've been working too hard.. I think you need to take some time of and go to dinner with me tonight. "
He told her confidently. He knew that she was a very independent women but he had no idea what she was capable of.
"Lex.. thanks for the offer.. but I can't. I've got to do a few more tests on this new experiment I'm conducting." She told him. She gave Lex her best apologetic smile and turned back to work.
"Come on Lana.. forget about it. You can do as much work as you want.. tomorrow. Today.. you need a break. You're burying yourself in all this work. You never get out much... so what better way to do that then to have dinner with me."
Lex gave her a pleasant smile. She turned around from her laptop displaying a chart and graph of her previous experiments. "If I go with you tonight.. then I can be at peace tomorrow? No disruptions.. nothing." She asked Lex in a serious tone. He thought for a minute and quickly agreed.
"Of course. You have my word as your business partner and as gentlemen. " He got up from her desk and flashed her a bright smile.
"Okay." Was all she managed to say. She could feel Lex's determination and eagerness. He wasn't about to give up so early. And she wanted peace to conduct her work. She devoted her life into making these scientific studies and conducting these experiments that would change the world.
"Then I'll pick you up at 7:00 at the Ca`fe de Fueri." He tried to keep his excitement in so he didn't look so desperate.
Lana was finally at peace for another few hours to work. Later she was on her way home from one of the Metropolis convience stores. She was walking, in deep thought about what she could do for her inventions to improve when she bumped into Clark with a bag of groceries.
"I'm so sorry. I.. I wasn't paying attention." Lana told Clark in a apologetic tone. "Nah, it's Okay.. I would have dropped it anyways." Clark put the groceries down on a street bench. "Wow, A modern man." Lana gave him a quick smile.
"Yeah.. Paige wanted me to pick up some junk food. Her diet is officially over." He smiled. "Oh!" Lana didn't know someone as skinny and tall as Paige would need to go on a diet. Some people are just so worried about their size and figure they have no idea who badly the desire to be super skinny is going to hurt them.
"What about you? Where are you heading?" He knew Lex had ask her out. Lex had discussed it with him before doing so. He was beginning to have feelings for Lana. But he kept it hidden.. deep inside. He didn't want anything to happen to her.
"I was on my home.. I just needed some milk and snacks." She lifted her bags of milk and a few chips and ice-cream. Clark was surprised Lana didn't worry about her diet. Being with Paige all those years made Clark very, very aware of the female's need to have the "perfect" figure. No junk food, exercise, and his favorite counting, checking calories on every single damn food! Except the normal female wouldn't be such a pain as Paige.. but when it came to those things.. Clark was very well thought.
"Wow... you're allowed to eat all of that junk food? I thought women were sensitive about their figures... Not that there's anything wrong with yours of course." Clark managed to add. "Well... I exercise a lot. So the junk food has no effect on me."
" Your lucky. You're going to dinner with Lex?" She was surprised he knew. "Yes. How did you know?"
"Oh.. Lex told me... when I asked him to come over for a business meeting. He told me he couldn't make it because he was escorting a wonderful women to dinner." Clark smiled. That wasn't what Lex said.. but he just wanted to flatter Lana so she would fall for Lex.
"Really??" She asked shocked to hear Lex’s compliment. "No!" Clark and Lana shared a quick laugh. "I just wanted for you to feel complimented. I've got to go. See you later. " He told her waving goodbye and left.
Lex arrived at her humble home at exactly 7:00. No earlier or later. Lana came down the stairs dressed in a normal black dress not too revealing.. but nice.
Lex was in shock. She wasn't in a cocktail dress.. she wasn't trying to look sexy... but she looked amazing to him!! He could hardly breathe.
"Wow!! Lana.. you.. you.. look amazing." He told her absolutely fascinated. "Thank you Lex. You look great too." She lied. She could feel Lex's emotions.. and it disgusted her. She didn't think she was out doing it.. she actually dressed pretty simple for a dinner date.
Lana held Lex's arms lightly as he follows the waiter to a fancy table in the VIP areas of the restaurant. This, to her was a pity date.. to get Lex off of her back. To Lex it meant that he was getting one step closer to her. He felt like nothing could bring him down.
A Nice dressed waiter came to greet them. "Welcome Mr. Luthor and Ms. Lang. What can I get you on this lovely evening?" He asked in a kind tone of voice, as if Lex had paid the guy to be nice and welcoming to make Lana feel like the date was perfect.
Lana felt so out of place. The place was quiet and everyone there was either extremely rich or extremely beautifull.
"I'll have your finest wine and your special for today. The finest meal you have. What about you Lana?" He asked nicely and lovingly.
"I'll.. I'll have the same. Except.. I'll have water.." She said.. she was confused.. most of it was in french and they all look so specific.. she had no idea what they were.. so she decided to go with Lex. 'His taste can't be that bad.. '
"Your food will be with you shortly." He quickly left to leave Lex and Lana alone.
Chapter 7 - Date from Hell
As Lex and Lana were waiting for their food, Clark and Paige walked into the same restaurant. Clark really didn’t feel like going out. But, Paige was very insistent that they needed a night out of the penthouse. Seeing as how she wouldn’t let this go. Clark decided to take her to the same restaurant that he knew Lex had taken Lana to. At least he could then see how the night was going for them. He hoped that Lex was having a terrible time. He deserved it.
Lana glanced up from her table and saw Clark and Paige being lead to their table from across the restaurant. Lana just daydreamed about spending this date with Clark instead of Lex. Clark was so much more fun to be around than Lex was. Clark wasn’t so disgusting in his feelings as Lex was. Lex was a cad. Clark was a gentlemen. With her mental capabilities she could sense exactly what someone was feeling. And with Lex she always felt dirty...like she needed a shower. With Clark, she always felt warm. Like being in your favorite old shirt. At peace and very much loved. Lana felt that Paige was a very lucky woman indeed.
As the dinner progressed, Lana and Clark kept stealing glances at each other from across the room. Lex and Paige were oblivious to what Clark and Lana were doing. Lex felt that Lana was totally into him. “Lana...would you care to dance with me?” Lana was surprised by Lex’s invitation. But, since it would allow her to steer Lex closer to Clark’s table she agreed. “That would be very nice Lex.”
As they danced across the floor Lana put on her best political smile. It was a complete fake. There is no way Lex could ever put any real smile to Lana’s face. Lex’s hand kept drifting lower and lower on Lana’s back. He was almost to her backside when Lana decided to take action. “Lex?”
“Yes Lana?” Lana’s smile disappeared off her face. “If your hand gets even one millimeter lower on my back. My knee will shoot straight up the inside of your thigh. Do I make myself clear?” Lex’s smile never left his face. “Of course Lana. I just couldn’t help myself.”
As Clark he was getting jealous of Lex’s attention to Lana. And considering what he was supposed to do to Lana should she not fall in love with Lex. Clark just couldn’t understand where his feelings were trying to take him. If he had to kill her it was going to destroy him. Lana was starting to become important to Clark. And he didn’t know why. All he knew for certain was that he had to be near her. And right now the only way to make that happen was to dance. “Paige? Would you care to dance?”
To say that Paige was shocked would be an understatement. Clark never wanted to dance. “I’d love too. What brought this on?” Clark didn’t dare tell her what it was really about. “I just felt like it. The music, the lights and the company has put me in a mood.”
As they moved out to the dance floor Paige was totally oblivious to Clark’s real intentions. Not surprising considering she barely paid Clark any attention at all. She was more interested to see how many women were envious of who she was dancing with. Appearances were what drove Paige...not how Clark actually felt about her. Paige was the polar opposite of Lana. And everyday that Clark spent around Lana was making that more and more clear to him.
Clark had decided that very soon he was going to dump Paige. She just didn’t make the pain go away anymore. The only one who seemed able to that for him anymore was dancing 10 feet away from him with Lex.
The two couples drew closer and closer together. When they all finally noticed each other. “Hey Clark, Paige. I didn’t know you would be coming to this restaurant tonight?”
“Paige wanted to go out and I remember you mentioning this new place that was opening. So, here we are.” That was when Clark’s big break came for the eve when Paige made a suggestion to Lex. “Lex, I needed to talk to you. Would you mind if we switched dancing partners so we could keep dancing and talk at the same time?” Lex agreed and all four switched dancing partners.
It was the first time all night that both Clark and Lana had been happy all night. Lana took a chance and reached into Clark’s mind to see how he was feeling. She knew it was wrong...but, she had to know. And after doing it Lana was glad she had broken that taboo. Clark’s mind was like bathing on a sunny beach. All warm and pleasant. A feeling of utter contentment. Lana had never in her life felt that someone appreciated her presence more than when she was with Clark.
The thing that shocked her most was that it was not sexual in any way like it was with Lex. Clark was just happy to be in her presence. To spend time with her. And this was a feeling that Lana had been looking for her entire life.
Clark knew that he had to be careful about how much he showed to Lana. If Lex got even the slightest idea about how he was beginning to feel about Lana. Then both his parents and Lana were as good as dead. Clark was very careful about where he placed his hands. He had noticed that Lex seemed to be trying to grab Lana whenever he could...this disgusted Clark as A lady like Lana should be shown more respect than that. Unknown to Clark was the fact that Lana wished that Clark would try putting his hands to the different parts of her body that she had denied Lex.
They danced slowly with each other not taking their eyes off each other. Talking quietly about nothing in particular. Just being happy to hear each others voice. Lana’s arms had started on Clark’s arms but her subconscious mind had other ideas. As her hands slowly moved up to Clark’s chest and finally wrapping her hands around the back of his neck.
Finally the intimacy of what was happening dawned on the both of them. And they broke their connection realizing what had almost just happened. “Thank you Lana. That was very pleasant.”
“For me too Clark. I can’t recall when I’ve enjoyed myself more.” Except if you had brought those lucius lips down and kissed me. It was a thought that Lana had never thought she would ever think. But, there it was. Clark turned her on as no man ever had.
All four couples reunited at this point. Lex and Paige still very unaware of the romantic flavor that Clark and Lana had just experienced. “Thank you for the dance Lana. But, we have to be going. I have an early morning. Shall we go Paige?”
“Sure, just let me grab my wrap.” Paige went to get her wrap as Clark said goodnight to Lex. “Good night Lex. I’ll be in a little later to the office. I need to stop by LANLEX and oversee how the new procedures we implemented are going.
Lana’s heart started pounding at the thought that she was going to get to see Clark again in the morning. That meant that she was going to have to get up very early to make sure she looked like a knockout for Clark. She was going to show him a side of her that he has not seen as of yet.
“Okay Clark. I’ll see you in the morning.” As Lex said his goodbye Lana got in her own fair well. “Goodnight Clark. I enjoyed our dance. I hope you did too.” Clark smiled and left them to get Paige. Lana watched him go with regret. She would rather he had stayed and Lex have left.
“Are you okay Lana? You seem suddenly sad.” Lana realized that she was letting her real feelings show to the surface and pulled herself back under control. There would be time to gaze at Clark’s magnificent physique in the morning. “Oh, nothing Lex. I guess I’m just tired. Can we please go. I have an early morning too.”
“Of course Lana. Whatever you need.” Lex walked back to the table to take care of their bill as Lana was thinking that Lex really wasn’t interested in giving her what she really wanted. Because, if he was he would give her Clark wrapped up in a pretty bow and nothing else.
Chapter 8
Before going to LanLex the next morning, Clark headed out to the Farm in Smallville. There had been some trouble with the last money transfer to the farm account and Clark wanted to talk to his dad about it before it got out of hand.
Clark arrived at the Farm at 6AM. He had to fly to make sure that he could make it back to Metropolis in plenty of time. Clark walked up to the door and knocked. It had been a long time since he had been back and with the bitterness between his father and him he felt it best to keep things formal.
The door opened and Martha greeted her son with all her love. “Clark! Oh god, it’s been so long. Come give me a hug.” Clark hugged her as a thirsty man would drink a glass of water. It had been so long since he had seen her. “Hi mom. It’s good to see you. How are you?”
“I’m better now that my son is home. Did you father call you?” A look of guilt passed over Clark’s face. Martha didn’t fail to notice the dark cloud that descended over Clark’s face. “Oh Clark...not again.”
“Mom, I came to straighten out some financial matters with Dad. Whether he wants me here or not.” Martha showed Clark to the kitchen table. “Well, at least you’re going to eat something while you’re here.” Clark didn’t argue. He had never been able to refuse a meal made by Martha Kent. And it had been so very long since he had sat and just talked with his mother. They talked about many things that had been going on in Smallville and on the farm. Friends who moved on and people who died.
The last time Clark had felt this at peace was before he had been forced to go to work for Lex. And it was something that Jonathan Kent just couldn’t get past. “Mom, has dad shown any signs that he might.....”
“Forgive you?” Clark just nodded his head. “Not to me he hasn’t son. And believe me I’ve tried.” Clark lowered his eyes and shut them tight to keep the tears from coming. Martha saw Clark’s struggle and reached over to hold his hand. “Mom, I’m creating a special account for the farm. I’m putting it in your name alone. If things get bad you can access the money.”
“Clark, I can’t go against Jonathan. If he....”
“He’s not going to know unless you tell him. Don’t let his pride destroy what the two of you have spend an entire lifetime building. You know that if I could leave Lex’s employment I would in a sec. But, If I do then you and dad would be dead before the end of the day.” Martha knew this to be true. But, it still didn’t keep her from trying to persuade Clark to find another way. “Son, isn’t there any other way? Maybe we could go into hiding for a short time?”
“Are you prepared to stay in hiding for the rest of your life? Because that is what it would take.” Martha knew that Jonathan would never do that. And if she was honest, she had to admit that she couldn’t either. Just then Jonathan walked into the Kitchen. The look on his face told Clark all he needed to know about how his father felt about him.
“What the hell is he doing here?” Clark stood and approached Jonathan. “Dad? We need to talk.”
“I’ve said all I intend to say to you. As long as you’re working for that murdering bastard you’re not welcome in this house. I expect you to be gone by the time I come back.” With that Jonathan stormed up the stairs and slammed the bathroom door. Clark scowled at the bathroom door. “Mom...the account is already set up. This folder has all the details. Take it or give it away. It’s a done deal in my book. It’s your money now...not mine.”
On the way out the door Clark stopped and looked back out of the corner of his eye. “I would appreciate it if you could find a way to come to Metropolis sometime. I miss you. And I would like to have lunch with you sometimes.” Martha looked apprehensive. “I would like that too son. But, with Jonathan’s attitude about it. I just don’t know.”
“Try mom. I miss you.” With those last words Clark opened the door and flew out into the early morning sky. He was back in Metropolis in a matter of a few minutes. Martha watched him go with tears in her eyes.
-----------------<LanLex>-------------------------------------------
Lana was nervous and excited all in the same instant. She had been primping her look for 2 hours before she went into work. The only time she did that was when went out on a date. Of which, she hadn’t done in almost 3 years. She didn’t consider what happened last night a date. Dinner with Lex was just business for her. Even though she knew what Lex wanted. It was not something she was prepared to give him.
It was almost 8AM and Clark still hadn’t arrived. Lana was getting worried. What if he didn’t show up today. She just couldn’t stand that. Clark was getting under her skin and she just couldn’t stand it. She just had to get him to notice her as a woman...and not as Lex’s partner.
Her desk phone took that moment to beep. It was the front desk. She had left instructions to be notified when Clark Kent showed up. She almost ran down the hall to greet all 6'4" inches of pure sex appeal. Or at least that’s the way she saw him.
Clark was just making his way up the hallway from the reception area when Lana caught up to him. “Clark....I was wondering when you were going to show up?” Clark saw that Lana was out of breath and the way her chest heaved up and down as she was out of breath. Clark had to caution himself about the thoughts he was having about Lana’s ample chest as Lex had his own designs on her.
“Nice of you to greet me Lana. But, it wasn’t necessary. I’m just here to inspect the new changes to the production line.” Lana’s expression showed her disappointment at Clark’s attitude. However, she did notice that when she run up to him that he had been checking her out. So maybe all wasn’t lost after all. “Nonsense Clark. This is as much my project as Lex’s. Shall we go and inspect the production line and see how thing s are progressing?”
“Clark...I thought it best if we had some press coverage for this line. So, I called the planet and had them send over a reporter to cover what we’re doing here. It’s not exactly top secret as the military already had a press conference about the new technology.” Clark thought that over and realized that it was a good idea to get the company some press. It would help the stock price when they took it public. “Sounds good. Is this reporter here yet?”
“Yes, she’ll meet us at the production line. Ah, there she is now.” Lana and Clark walked up to a very petite looking blond. Cute and show some curves of her own. But, she was just as short as Lana and so she barely came up to Clark’s chest. And she just kept looking up and up and up until she meet his gorgeous eyes and swallowed hard. “Uh....Hi”
“Hi yourself. And you would be?” Lana saw the look on the reporters face and understood her reaction. Clark Kent could be a very impressive man when you first meet him. “Clark Kent...this is Chloe Sullivan. Staff reporter for the Dailey Planet.”
“How are you doing Miss Sullivan? It’s nice to meet you.” Clark held his hand out to shake Chloe’s hand. But, she was to preoccupied with staring into Clark’s eyes. “Huh....what....oh, yeah. Nice to meet you too.” Chloe finally shake Clark’s hand like she was touching a god. She was smitten from the moment she meet him. Lana noticed this and knew that this was something she couldn’t tolerate. Clark was to be hers and she wasn’t going to let this blonde little reporter get in the way of that. “Shall we begin the inspection. And you can ask whatever questions you like Miss Sullivan...as long as we’re not giving away any secret technology.”
Chloe snapped herself out of her trance. Determined to revitalize her image. “Sorry Mr. Kent...Miss Lang. Now, what were you saying about this technology?” They walked the production line outlining how the technology was going to revolutionize how our military tracks it’s operations thru the air and on the ground. Even in space. “Isn’t this type of technology going to put a further strain on the government deficient? Can this country really afford this technology of yours?”
“Miss Sullivan...shouldn’t you be directing that question to your local Congressman and not to Miss Lang or myself. We’re business people not government bean counters.” Chloe gulped at being put in her place by such a handsome and sexy man. “Point taken Mr. Kent.” The tour continued on without another confrontation as Chloe didn’t want Clark to have ill feelings toward her.
Unseen by the 3 of them was a steel support beam that was improperly tightened. It had come lose and started to fall toward all three of them. Clark saw it to late to save everyone. “Look out....” Clark pushed Chloe out of the way, but couldn’t reach Lana in time. Chloe didn’t see it but Clark saw the steel strike her right in the chest. Lana was propelled under a cabinet.
“Lana.....” Clark ran to her fearing the worst. That pole had weighed several hundred pounds...she had to be dead. But, instead she was just stunned. Clark couldn’t believe his eyes. “Lana? Why aren’t you dead? That pole hit you right in the chest. You should have been crushed.”
Lana had finally regained enough of her senses to realize what had happened. Clark had seen her use one of her special gifts. How in the world was she ever going to explain this to him.......
Chapter 9: Denial
Lana quickly got up from where she stood and straighten her clothes. Clark rushed over to help her up but she denied his help. She didn’’t want him to get more confused and even more suspicious. ‘‘OH CRAP!! What the heck am I going to do now??’’
"Lana, that pole should have crushed you, you should be dead." Clark can see Lana wasn’t in the mood for questioning. She was terrified, but not for the reasons Clark thought. "I...I... I don’’t know.. I must have an angel or something watching over me... I must have managed to get out of the way." She told him hoping for her life that he would believe her.
She laughs nervously turning looking away from Clark. It was happening again, every guy she was beginning to get closer in the end she would have to lie to. No one would truly accept her for who she was. " It was all pretty much a blur... so lots of things could have happened."
"Yeah, yeah... the whole thing was pretty much a blur." Clark knew there was something more than this. She was denying and he didn’’t want to push it. ‘‘That was no mistake, she should have died it was went almost crushed her chest. I know what I saw, and I know there is not one soul of this planet who’s got a clearer eye than me.’’ Clark played along seeing how Chloe was getting up.
"Thanks Mr. Kent! Whoa... what do you think happened? Chloe asked seeing the pole at the same part Lana was standing in. "Are you Okay Miss. Lang?" Lana was taken by surprise hearing Chloe’s questions. Her mind was occupied by what kind of story she was going to have to feed to Clark so he wouldn’t think she was a freak.
"I’m fine... Thanks, I managed to escape just in time. Um... I’’m going to have to talk to my associates about this. Can we reschedule this interview Miss. Sullivan?"
"Uh, Yeah... I can see your not really up to my nosiness after your near death experience... So how about the next week?" Chloe asked. Usually she never would have backed down... but she was hoping to spend some time with Clark.
Lana could easily sense Chloe’s reason for not wanting to finish the interview but she was sort of glad. Because she needed some time to think and she couldn’t bear to answer any more of Chloe’’s questions.
"That would be good, Thanks. Bye Clark,... um.. See you around." Clark gave her a wave as she turned around and went to her lab. "Mr. Kent, since Miss. Lang is taking a break, do you mind answering me some questions?" Chloe asked nicely bating her eyelashes.
"Not right now Ms. Sullivan, I’ve got to go. Next week." He said rushing off. Chloe was disappointed but she didn’t let that keep her down. "Figures." was all she managed to say before heading out.
~~~~ Luthor Mansion ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clark entered the study room seeing Lex in the corner. Lex looked up from his computer and walked up to Clark. "I wasn’t expecting you... what are you doing here? Your supposed to be watching Lana and getting to know her."
"I was there, something happened." Clark said not knowing if he should tell Lex what he saw. Knowing Lex he would investigate it in deep measures... but what was he suppose to do? "What happened?"
"Lana..." Clark began but was immediately cut off by Lex. "What about her? Is she Ok?" Lex asked in a frantic. "She’s fine, but earlier today. We were doing a quick interview with this girl at the Daily Planet when a lose beam pole weighing in hundreds of pounds fell down towards us.
"WHAT!! WHERE’S LANA? DON’’T TELL ME SHE’S CRUSHED?!!!" Lex yelled frantically at Clark.
"No, Lex calm down... I managed to push the girl out of the way... but I didn’t get to Lana in time." Lex was trying really heard to not have another spontaneous outburst but from the direction this story was going... either Lana was dead, crushed, or in the hospital. He waited anxiously to find out what’s happened like a little boy on his first day of school.
"The beam fell straight for Lana... but she managed to escape. Luckily she’s doing fine. It must have missed her by an inch. She’s a bit shaken up but she’’ll be fine."
"Clark, my future wife was almost crushed to the bones and all you can tell me is that she’s a bit shaken up! Your assignment was to follow her, have her trust you, then when the time’s right persuade her to marry me. You were suppose to protect her! You managed to knock some girl out of the way... but left my future wife to die!" Lex yelled angrily towards Clark. Lex might be the boss but Clark wasn’t just going to stand and be bossed.
"First off, your not engaged to her... so she’s not your future wife. Second. I tried to get her out of the way first but unfortunately I was only able to get the girl. I’m sorry but protecting her wasn’t my duties."
"From now on... anything that happens to her is going to happen to you... unless it was ordered by me. Got it?"
Clark didn’t say another word - he just left and slammed the door. He managed to protect Lana’s secret, he wasn’t going to tell Lex... not after what happened with him. He didn’t want Lana anymore involved then she already is.
The next few days were a bit more settled. Clark and Lana pretended nothing happened. Both knowing the other was just trying not to let things be to awkward.
After the visit he had from Clark, Lex rushed to LANALEX with flowers and a whole get well cards, huge teddy bears, boxes of chocolate, and flowers. Lana was annoyed by how weak Lex thought of her... but glad Clark didn’t say anything about what he saw.
Chloe and Lana finished their interviews without Clark being there to distract her. Clark didn’t fill Lex in on events as much anymore. The closer and closer he was with her the more he felt like he was actually falling in love for the first time. He dated a lot, but none he ever loved. Paige was just for him to be happy... knowing he wasn’t alone, but in the end it’s how he always felt. He made his decision he was breaking up with Paige, which should be easy for a heart breaker like him.
His mission is to find out the truth about Lana Lang and his side mission was get her trust and follow his commands. But the tricky part was how was he going to do this and not fall in love with her?
Chapter 10
True to her word....Chloe called Clark’s office about arraigning a separate interview with him regarding LANLEX. In truth, she just wanted to have a date with him...even if it was disguised as an interview. They meet at a little Itallian restaurant in little Italy on the west side of Metropolis. Clark wasn’t thrilled with the choice of place they were meeting because the restaurant was a little to intimate for a business meeting.
As Clark entered the establishment, he was lead back to Chloe’s table. This made Clark even more uncomfortable as they were in a secluded corner. Next to a fireplace. Clark took a seat across from her determined to make this interview as professional as he could despite what he knew Chloe was steering him toward. “Miss Sullivan. Have you ordered yet?”
“No...I was waiting for you before we order.”
