This is a new fic I am planning on writing very soon. No, I haven't completely abandoned Clana Situations, but I've decided to start on a second project for the time being. It picks up where the end of season 5 left off (from what I know of it) and tells the story of Clark's battle with Zod. Don't worry, there will be clana. ;) Tell me what you think.

oh, and we're also assuming a few things:

1) Clark returned from the Phantom Zone

2) Chloe somehow made it out of her sticky gang situation

3) Zod was extracted from Lex and returned to the Phantom Zone, only to be released again, and restored to his body in a Harry Potter esque scenario...you can go ahead and use your imagination on that one

I'm not stupid, I know this is a Clana forum. I'll make it work, trust me. ;)

Chapter 1

Clark watched Chloe ascend the loft steps, just as he had seen Lana do so many times. How I miss her…

Chloe smiled sadly.

“I know that look,” she said. “What’s wrong?”

Clark confirmed what she already knew. “I don’t think this is going to work out between us,” he sighed. "It’s just too painful."

Chloe nodded. “Because of Lana?” she asked.

Clark looked at her, then turned away.

Chloe walked over and put a hand on his shoulder. Clark looked down at her, only to look away again.

Chloe finally broke the silence. “Clark,” she said, “all I want is for you to be happy, and it might not be too late to save the clana.”

Clark looked at her. “The what?” he asked, puzzled.

Chloe shook her head. “It’s what I came up with for you and Lana,” she explained.

Clark gave her a look. “So what would we be? Chlark? That sounds just like my name, the H is silent."

Chloe nodded. “One of the many, yet more trivial reasons this isn’t going to work. She smiled. "I’m going to help you get her back. We’ll expose Lex for who he really is."

Clark smiled. “Thanks, Chloe.”

“How touching,” came a sinister voice from the stairs.

Clark and Chloe both turned to see the source of the voice, to find a man in black armor and a goatee standing before them.

“Who are you?” Clark demended.

The man smiled. “Surely you haven’t forgotten me already? I’m surprised at you.”

Clark then recognized the voice. His eyes widened in shock. “No,” he whispered. It can’t be…”

Beams of heat came from the eyes of the man Clark now knew as Zod. They hit him square in the chest, causing him to stagger and fall.

“Clark!” Chloe shrieked. She ran to the drawer and pulled out a block of kryptonite. “Leave!” she demanded.

Zod smiled and blew a gust of wind. The kryptonite flew out of a window. Chloe glanced down at Clark. He wasn’t breathing.

No…

Well that was a surprise its going to be hard for Clark to recover from. A bit of a pre-emptive strike from Zod. :\

And what's going to happen to poor Chloe? Zod obviously can't allow anyone who knows his weaknesses to survive. :(

Chapter 2

Clark opened his eyes to find himself in the cave walls.

“Hello, my son,” came Jor-el’s voice.

Great, thought Clark bitterly. More bad news.

“I don’t care what you say,” said Clark defiantly. "You’re not taking a life in exchange for mine!”

“There will be no need to, Kal-el,” said Jor-el placidly. You’re mortality is gone. There is no life to replace.”

Out of habit, Clark looked around for the source of the voice. “Then send me back!”

“You cannot win this fight, Kal-el,” said Jor-el.

“I have to try!”

“You don’t understand. Long ago, our people came to Earth. From there, they populated with humans, causing our Kryptonian heritage to diminish with each passing generation. As a result, little of our people is as strong as we once were.”

Clark thought for a moment. “What does that have to do with here and now?”

“Zod’s ancestors had few, if any, relations with humans. He is free of humanity, which makes him stronger than you.”

Clark’s eyes glazed over in defeat. His humanity really does make him weak.

Jor-el continued, “I once reprogrammed you, took away your human heritage. It made you stronger.”

“But you also took away my humanity!” Clark shouted. “I won’t go back to being that way! You can’t make me!”

There was a silence. “You’re right, I can’t. But your strength is not good enough anymore.

A crystal floated in front of Clark.

“This is the spirit Nor-el, among the earliest of our ancestors. If you allow it, he will inhabit your body and guide you. But be warned, this may be more troublesome than a complete transformation. Expect there to be conflicting interests.”

Clark looked at the crystal. I have to go back!

******************************

Zod looked at Chloe with a glint in his eye, as she backed up in fear.

“So what should I do with you?” he wondered aloud.

Suddenly, Clark’s body began to glow. Surprised, Zod walked over and looked down at him intently. This could be a bigger threat than some silly girl. The glowing intensified. Zod raised an eyebrow.

“What…”

A flash of light sent Zod spiraling backward over the loft railing. Unfortunately, it also spent Chloe falling out the window.

“Ahh!” she screamed.

When the light cleared, Clark was on his feet, and sped outside to catch Chloe.

“Are you all right,” he asked as he set her down.

“yeah,” she gasped.

*Forget the girl!*

“What?” Said Clark, confused.

“I didn’t say anything,” Chloe responded.

“Just run!” Clark urged.

Chloe nodded, and was in mid-kiss when she remembered…oh, yeah…

Chloe ran.

Chapter Three

As Clark watched Chloe run away, an explosion from behind him jogged his senses. He turned around to face Zod.

“How is this possible?” Zod demanded. “I killed you personally!”

Clark smiled. “And now you get to kill me again.”

Zod shook off his confusion and replaced it with a look of contempt. “It will be as easy as before,” he proclaimed confidently.

*This banter is meaningless. Fight him!*

There’s that voice again, thought Clark. But it’s right.

Clark charged forward and began to fight Zod. He used every trick he knew and learned, but try as he might, Zod countered every single one of his attacks. Zod grabbed him by the neck and began to drain the life out of him.

*I cannot stand to watch this anymore. I’m taking over!*

Clark began to glow once again. Remembering what happened the last time this occurred, Zod quickly dropped Clark and stood back.

As the blue, hazy glow engulfed Clark, he began to float above the ground. As the glow grew more and more intense, his eyes began to change from a green to a brilliant blue. The glow subsided, and Clark dropped to the ground.

Zod looked at his unknowingly new opponent in confusion. Why have his eyes changed?

*What is happening?* demanded Clark, no longer in control.

*You have not figured it out by now?* came the voice. *I am Nor-el!*

Of course, thought Clark, feeling stupid. *What have you done?* he asked.

*I have taken over. You are not strong enough to fight this foe.*

*Put me back in control, right now,* Clark demanded.

*All in good time. For now, I must deal with this myself.*

Nor-el charged forward and began to fight Zod. Now, Zod was the one being countered. Any attack he tried, Nor-el was ready to block it. Nor-el ran up Zod’s chest and delivered a kick to his chin, sending him flying backwards.

Zod hoisted himself up on his elbows. He touched his hand to his chin, and it came away with blood. He glared at the man he thought was Kal-el.

“This isn’t over.”

And with that, he flipped onto his feet, and disappeared into the sky.

Chapter Four

*And the first rule is that you never take over my body without my permission,* Clark said sternly.

It was the following day. Clark was stacking piles of hay in the barn. As he laid out the ground rules he was sure that, had he been able to, Nor-el would have been scowling.

*Very well, fair enough,* he said gruffly.

*Second rule,* continued Clark. *when you do inhabit my body, you play by my rules. The safety of others comes first. And finally, if you disobey either of these rules, even once, then that’s it, you’re going back into the crystal. I don’t care if you’re here to guide me or help me – it’s my body, and I’ll decide what happens to it.*

*But then, where would that leave you? Without a powerful ally to do your bidding,* Nor-el countered.

*I’ll find another way to fight Zod, but I won’t tolerate you becoming a rouge spirit.*

“Hey Clark,” said Chloe as she walked into the barn.

*Oh, there’s that waste of time girl again,* said Nor-el sardonically. *I have half a mind to tell her off right now.*

*She is my friend,* said Clark in his stern voice again. *Remember rule number two, and especially rule number three.*

That shut him up in a hurry.

“Hey Chloe,” said Clark cheerfully.

“When I didn’t see anything in the Planet about a disaster at the Kent farm, I figured it was safe to come back. You must have really kicked that guy’s butt,” said Chloe smugly.

“Uhh…yeah, something like that,” said Clark evasively.

Chloe peered at him, like she knew he was hiding something, but decided to drop it. “So anyway,” she continued, “I was thinking about what to do about Lana, and I thought that Lex might have something incriminating. So I was up all night trying to hack into his server, and I came up with this.”

Chloe excitedly handed him a disc. Clark took it and looked it over.

“What’s on here?” he wondered more than asked.

Put it on whenever you can get Lana in the same room with you,” said Chloe, clearly excited about whatever it was. “I would say you should get Lex in on the picture, but that might be over the top.”

Clark nodded and smiled. “Thanks, Chloe.”

“Just don’t play it until it’s you and Lana,” warned Chloe. “I want it to be a surprise for both of you at once. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go take my Lunesta. Don’t call, I won’t pick up; don’t email, I won’t be checking; and don’t come knocking, I won’t answer.”

As Chloe left the barn, Nor-el scoffed. *She could put those talents to better use.*

*Maybe,* said Clark. *But Lana is somebody who is very important to me.*

*Just don’t forget why you’re here,* warned Nor-el.

*I won’t, as long as you don’t forget why you’re here,* said Clark bitterly.

PM me your guesses as to what's on the disc. Don't post on the forum.

metropolis
09-01-2006, 06:00 PM
Ok, I just want to stress the point to everyone that the disc doesn't reveal Lex to have anything dangerous up his sleeve. The main threat in this fic is Zod and his disciples, and eventually Brainiac and his army of Sevens.

Chapter Five

As Chloe headed out to her car, she saw somebody out of the corner of her eye. However, as she snapped her head in that direction, the figure vanished. Her eyes widened as she realized this can only mean one thing.

“CLA-”

Suddenly, a hand closed over her mouth. However, Clark had heard Chloe’s mid-scream and raced outside. It was Nam-ek.

“If you even think about transforming,” he warned, “then I will kill her.”

Chloe looked at Clark with confused eyes. Transform? What is he talking about?

Clark gave her a look that promised he would explain everything later.

*Now do you see? These humans you care for only get in the way!*

*Shut up, Nor-el* Clark snapped back. *We’re playing by my rules, remember?*

*Yes, yes, I know.*

Clark was starting not to like Nor-el. He seemed like a typical kryptonian, showing utter disregard for humanity. It seemed that the only thing keeping him on a leash was the fear that he would be once again confined to the crystal.

*However,* he continued, *your rules don’t help our situation right now.*

“What do you want, Nam-ek?” Clark asked.

“I can answer that,” came Zod’s voice.

Clark turned to face his enemy. “What do I have to do to make you let her go?” he asked calmly.

Zod smirked. “It’s simple, really. All you must do is fight me. However, if you transform, then my disciple here will be inclined to kill her.”

Clark froze. *What should I do?* he wondered.

*I don’t know, it’s your call,” Nor-el sneered.

Clark made up his mind. “All right Zod, you’ve got yourself a fight.”

Zod smirked and rushed forward, and Clark braced for the pounding he was sure to receive. To his surprise, however, he was able to hold his own. As Zod threw punch after punch, Clark was able to dodge each one in succession. However, a kick to his shin brought him to his knees, and Zod delivered another kick to his face, sending him flying backwards.

“Ahh!” he screamed. However just as quickly as he fell he was once again back on his feet.

“Hmm…stronger than last night,” mused Zod. “Does this qualify as a hint of transformation?"

*What have you done?* Clark shouted at Nor-el.

*I’m sorry, I didn’t think he would notice,” Nor-el responded, clearly not caring at all.

Zod looked at Nam-ek. “Kill her!”

Chapter Six

*Nor-el, I need you!* shouted Clark.

*You are about to find out,* retorted Nor-el, *how much you really need me.*

*No…no…*

“NO!” shouted Clark.

Suddenly, he began to change. The now familiar glow began to surround him as he rose off the ground and his eyes turned blue.

*How are you doing this?* demanded Nor-el.

The glowing subsided, and Clark landed on the ground. Mesmerized by the spectacle, Nam-ek hadn’t yet carried out his assigned task.

“What are you waiting for?” Zod yelled at him. “Finish her!”

Nam-ek looked at him and nodded, and began to raise a fist to bring down on her head. However, Clark was already there. He grabbed Nam-ek’s arm and twisted it back, freeing his grip on Chloe. He then danced around him, and kicked him into Zod, knocking them both down.

“Chloe, get behind me!” Clark shouted.

Chloe ran for her life behind Clark. Clark looked at Zod and Nam-ek as they stood up.

“Leave, before I kill you both,” he snapped.

“No!” shouted Nam-ek defiantly. He charged.

As Nam-ek approached Clark, Clark ran up his front and kicked him in the neck, killing him instantly. He then used his heat vision to incinerate the body, as Zod looked on in horror.

Zod gave him a furious glare before flying off.

Clark turned to Chloe. “Are you all right?” he asked her.

Chloe nodded. “I’m fine,” she responded. “Now, do you want to explain to me why your eyes are blue?”

Clark told his story, as Chloe’s eyes increasingly widened in wonder.

“So that time, it wasn’t him?” she asked, amazed.

Clark shook his head. “I still don’t understand what happened,” he said, contemplating the possibilities.

*I’ll tell you what happened,* said Nor-el furiously. You were able to overpower me in your time of need. However, now that it has passed, I’ll be taking back my powers, if you don’t mind.*

And with a slight glow, Clark returned to normal. He looked at Chloe’s confused face and smiled.

“I’ll tell you what happened…” he began.

well, the entire idea behind this fic is that kryptonian population with humans many thousands of years ago led to a decline in the potency of their powers. Since Clark is possessed by Nor-el, his very earliest ancestor before all of that happened, his powers are greater than pretty much any kryptonian alive, which gives him the new power of ass-kickery against his own people

Chapter Seven

Clark walked into Lex’s study to find him teaching Lana how to shoot pool.

“You want to give it just a light tap,” Lex told her, standing behind her and adjusting her arm. “That’s it – oh, hello Clark. What brings you here?”

Clark could hear the malicious tone in his voice as Lana looked up at him, less than happy to see him as well.

Clark reached into his back pocket and Lex spread his arms out to shield Lana, as if he thought Clark was pulling a gun.

“Lex, stop it,” Lana scolded him.

Lex smirked. “You can never be too careful,” he said sardonically.

Clark pulled his hand from his back pocket to reveal the disc. “Apparently, you weren’t careful enough,” he said, matching Lex’s tone.

Lex looked at the disc. He kept his confident disposition, but Clark could begin to see the faintest traces of worry. “What is that?” Lex asked him.

Clark shook his head. “I honestly have no idea,” he said. “But I would like to find out, wouldn’t you?”

Lana looked between Clark and Lex. Clark was looking like he had pocket aces without even looking at his hole cards. Lex, consequently, was looking like he was determining a bluff.

Lex shook his head and smiled. “You expect me to feel intimidated by a blind threat?” he asked Clark rhetorically.

Clark gazed at him, unmoving. “It’s not blind to the person who gave it to me. And who said I was threatening you?”

“Let me guess: Chloe.”

Clark nodded. “Of course. But you haven’t hidden anything from Lana yet, so why start now?”

Lana flared up. “Clark, this isn’t fair! You’re…you’re…

Trying to force secrets out of someone?” Clark finished dryly.

Lana hung her mouth open, then hung her head in shame. “I want to see what’s on there, Lex,” she said.

Clark walked over to the TV and placed the disc in the DVD player. He stepped back, and the three of them watched.

Lex gasped. This was the camera meeting he had with Simone months ago. He deleted it completely. How on Earth did Chloe find it?

When the recording finished, Clark looked at Lex, his good nature blinded by complete rage. “Lex, of all the low-down, dirty things you’ve done, this one ranks pretty high.”

Lana couldn’t believe it. Her entire relationship with Lex was built on a lie. She sunk to her knees and began to cry.

“Clark,” she said pleadingly, “I am so sorry. I…”

Clark knelt down beside her. “It’s all right Lana,” he said soothingly. “You’re not the only one to fall for his false sincerity. I don’t blame you at all.”

Lana looked up at him. “Clark,” she said, we have a lot to talk about. Will you take me back to the farm?”

Clark nodded. “Of course,” he said.

They left, leaving Lex with more hatred towards Clark than Clark and Lana had towards him combined.

Chapter Eight

*How touching,* Nor-el sneered.

*Nor-el, please just shut up,* Clark snapped.

“Clark, what’s wrong?” Lana asked, momentarily taking her eyes off the road and noticing the agitated look on Clark’s face.

Clark looked at her. “It’s nothing,” he muttered.

Lana sighed. “Clark, for once this isn’t a requirement but I would really like to know what the story is with you. I may be able to help.”

Clark shook his head. “I can’t,” he said.

Lana sighed once more, having expected that answer. “Take your time,” she told him kindly.

“No, you don’t understand. I can’t lie to you anymore! I’ve taken more time than I should have. You’ll know everything, but not now.”

Lana blinked. “Why not?”

This time, Clark actually smiled. “Because I don’t think your insurance covers shock behind the wheel,” he said.

Lana’s heart began to race with the implications of that statement. Was she right about him all along? She pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the engine.

“What are you doing?” Clark asked, surprised.

Lana reached out and took his hand. “Clark, I have a perfectly good insurance policy already.”

Clark smiled. “I feel like making a really dumb joke right now for some reason.”

Lana laughed, Clark’s hand still in his. “Now tell me what you want to, and I swear I won’t let go,” she promised, gripping his hand tighter.

Clark looked away. “I’m not worried about how you’ll take it, I’m just worried about how it will change your life.”

Lana forced him to look at her. “Clark, that’s my decision to make.”

The last time she had said those words, she had made up her mind to leave for Paris.

“Alright Lana,” Clark decided. "I’m going to tell you the truth, but I’m going to cast myself in as bad a light as possible. Are you sure you can keep your promise?"

Lana nodded. “Positive.”

“Okay,” Clark sighed. “I’m an alien from another planet - just like the ones that kidnapped you last summer - and I came to Earth in the meteor shower that killed your parents, and is the cause of all those times you were in danger that I rescued you from in the first place."

No, I'm just saying that some people right a story where she's ok with it and then there's other stories where she's not ok with it.

I was just saying that if she's ok with it like in Clana Situations. Then this is going to be a really great story! Thats all I'm saying.

Since we're on the subject, when r u going to update Clana Situations?

Ok, you're right I forgot. Sorry. The TV show was getting to me, I can't believe they put Lex and Lana together.

I would probably stop watching it because of that, but I want to see if Clark and Lana will get back together. I Hope this because I heard a rumor that Lana going to find out his secret this season.

I don't know how she'll find out, I just know she will.

This is why I'm so against Lexana. Thats why in my story there isn't anything about Lexana. A lot of people love it. I'm going to update tomorrow. You should read it!!:D

Chapter Nine

Lana’s first impulse was to break her promise and let go of Clark’s hand. Heck, she was ready to leave the car altogether. stop, she told herself. This is Clark. He’s no different now than he was when you’ve known him your ENTIRE LIFE.

“Lana?” Clark asked worriedly. Maybe he was wrong about how she would take it.

Lana shook her head and tried hard to smile. As her grip on Clark’s hand tightened, Clark looked down at their hands and then back to Lana, who nodded reassuringly.

“Clark,” she finally said. “None of this was your fault. The meteor shower wasn’t your fault, or the way it’s affected everyone. As for you being an alien, I have only one thing to say to that…What planet are you from?” She asked the question as though she was asking about Clark’s hometown on Earth, which made them both laugh.

“It’s a planet called Krypton,” Clark told her. “Or at least, it was."

Lana looked at him. “It was destroyed?”

*Hmm…such a clever girl,* said Nor-el.* She reminds me so much of Isobel Theroux. Nim-el – in his spirit form, of course – has told me so much about her.”

Clark wanted to ask who Nim-el was, and he was even more interested in how Isobel was associated with Krypton. But now wasn’t the time.

“That’s right,” Clark told Lana. “From what I know the core of the planet was unstable, so my father, Jor-el, built a ship and sent me here. As far as I know, I’m the last of my kind.”

Lana could tell that Clark was being untruthful about that last part, but she now realized that if he lied, he must have very good reason.

“Lana,” Clark said. “I hope you realize what a huge responsibility this is.”

Lana nodded. “Don’t worry. I will never betray your secret. Never…”

Lana started to lean forward to kiss him. Clark started to pull away. Besides that fact that he still feared for Lana’s life, he wasn’t keen for this kind of thing with an audience inside his own head.

Lana looked at him. “What is it?” she asked him.

“So, we’re just picking up where we left off?” Clark asked.

Lana nodded. “I want more than anything else to forget the past six months ever happened.” She started to lean forward again.

“Lana” Clark said, stopping her again. “There’s something else you should know.”

Lana looked at him, listening.

“The reason I’ve been putting our…intimate relationship on hold is because I’m worried I’ll hurt you.”

Lana blinked. “I don’t understand."

Clark heaved a deep breath. “My powers.”

“Oh,” Lana said in dawning comprehension. “Well, how bad is it?”

“Well, let’s see…I have the strength, so I could accidentally crush you into a pulp. Or, I can set you on fire by thinking about sex.”

Lana looked at him strangely.

“I can control these things,” Clark told her. “I’m just worried about adjusting to new…situations.”

Lana sighed. “Well, it’s okay,” she said understandingly. “We can take it slow, let your body adjust, one base at a time.” She laughed.

Clark smiled and laughed to, wondering what the hell he was going to do.

Chapter Ten

Once Clark and Lana arrived at the Kent farm, they went up to the loft and sat down on the couch. Somehow, Clark could sense that Nor-el was shutting himself off from Clark, at least having the decency to give them some alone time. He put his arm around Lana, and Lana rested her head on his shoulder. They heard footsteps coming up the stairs.

“Hey Mom,” Clark called out.

“Hello Kal-el,” sneered Zod as he reached them.

Clark quickly stood up. “You never quit, do you?”

“Clark,” said Lana in confusion. “What’s going on?”

Lana! Getting her to safety was Clark’s top priority. He pulled her to her feet, picked her up, and ran at his top speed out the loft window, Lana screaming the whole way.

To hopefully confuse Zod, Clark shifted direction from straight out the window by veering towards the pasture, stopping at a ground shed he had once used to hide his Mom in.

“Lana,” Clark told her. “I need you to hide in here. Don’t come out until I come back for you.”

Lana nodded. “Clark, what’s this about?”

“I’ll explain everything later, I promise,” he told her.

Lana crawled into the shed. Good, thought Clark. She should be reasonably safe in there. *Nor-el,* he called out.

Nothing.

He tried again. *Nor-el!*

Suddenly, Zod was right in front of him. This was enough to set Clark off. From inside the shed, Lana could see a blue glow creeping through the cracks in the doors. What’s going on? She wondered.

Once the transformation was complete, Zod threw a Phantom Zone portal in Clark’s direction. Although not expecting this, Clark was able to catch it and crush it in his hand. Zod raised an eyebrow in surprise and fear. That was his last tactic, and this was his final stand. He charged Clark.

From the shed, Lana could hear somebody screaming in immense pain. She hoped to God it wasn’t Clark. Suddenly there was a groan, and then silence. She stood frozen in fear, waiting to see what happened next.

The shed door opened. “Lana?” called Clark. Lana ran out to Clark and hugged him. She pulled back and looked into his eyes, asking without speaking for an explanation as to why they were blue.

“Don’t worry,” Clark assured her. “I’ll explain what’s been going on. Come with me.”

And with that, they returned to the loft.

Zod, yes. But Nor-el is an intergal part of this story - he's the only reason Clark can reach his higher self in the first place. As mentioned, Nor-el just wanted to give Clark and Lana some time alone.

Chapter Eleven

“So since my mortality was destroyed, Jor-el was able to send me back,” Clark told Lana. They were back in the loft, and Clark was back to normal.

Lana stared at him. “So you’re…immortal?”

Clark shook his head. “My powers are what are keeping me alive, but without a life force to sustain them, they’ll gradually fade out as I age.” He smiled. “Don’t worry, I won’t outlive you.”

Lana leaned forward and kissed him. “As long as you live a long, healthy life, then that’s all that matters to me,” she said, smiling.

Clark grinned. “Likewise.” Then he was all business. “So I was able to finish the fight with Zod and Nam-ek – one of his disciples – but the other is still out there somewhere.”

Lana nodded. “So what are you going to do?”

“Well, when Zod doesn’t return, I’m guessing Asthyer will figure out that he didn’t make it. She’ll want to avenge his death, and I wouldn’t put it past her to find a way to kill me before long.”

“Wouldn’t she have to take away your powers to do that?”

Clark shook his head. “Not if my body was damaged beyond healing,” he said grimly. “If I was, say, completely incinerated, then there would be no way for me to come back. I would be a floating spirit like Nor-el.”

“Nor-el?”

Oops, Clark had forgotten to explain that. “He’s the Kryptonian spirit who possesses me,” he explained. “When I returned, he came with me. But that’s opeing up another can of worms entirely. Let’s just say he helped me defeat Zod.”

Lana nodded. “But I thought you didn’t have a life force.”

Clark smiled. “A spirit and a life force are two different things, Lana. Without a spirit, I wouldn’t even exist. My body would be an empty shell.”

“But how can your body be destroyed if you’re unbreakable?” wondered Lana. “I mean, I guess she can use meteor rock –”

Clark raised his eyebrows in surprise.

“Yes Clark, I know about that. I haven’t been completely in the dark. But the meteor rock would affect her, too. So what can she do?

Clark shook his head grimly. “If I can do it, so can she.”

Chapter Twelve

As if right on cue, a blue light shone through the loft window. Clark and Lana looked at each other, then ran over to take a look.

Clark breathed a sigh of relief – it was only a Phantom Zone portal. But his relief was instantly dashed when he saw who had opened it. It was Asthyer.

As Clark and Lana watched in shock, a giant ship emerged from the portal. The ship, Clark realized. Brainiac’s ship. The ship touched down on the grass and the portal closed.

“Lana,” Clark told her. “Whatever happens, stay here!”

Lana nodded, mad with worry. “Be careful,” she said, giving him a peck on the cheek.

Clark supersped down to the field. Asthyer turned to face him.

“Kal-el,” she sneered. “Nice of you to join this welcoming committee. And look, I gathered guests to celebrate your return.”

As she said this, black liquid began to seep from the ship, and Clark anticipated the appearance of Brainiac. Wait, he thought. There’s more of them!

Indeed, the black liquid was separating into at least a dozen separate shapes. Slowly, they each took on the shape of Brainiac.

Without being in desperate need, Clark couldn’t transform on his own. He needed Nor-el to fight this one for him.

*Nor-el!* he shouted.

Still nothing. Clark gulped. He had held his own against Brainiac in the past, but he wasn’t sure how he would fare against a dozen times that number. But he had to try. Clark charged forward.

As Lana watched from the loft, she could see Clark getting tossed around like a pillow at a slumber party, and she was powerless to do anything except watch.

Clark was knocked backwards onto the ground, panting heavily. Suddenly, a blue glow emitted from under his hand, and from it emerged a yellow dagger.

*A gift to you, my son.* It was Jor-el!

Clark wasn’t sure what to do, but decided to wing it. I have this, I’ll use it.

Clark flipped to his feet and charged forward again. He stabbed the nearest Seven with the dagger and to his surprise, it turned black and exploded. The fight was on.

Clark went to work on the Sevens, slicing his dagger through the air, leaving a yellow trail behind with each swipe. In a matter of seconds, he turned to face Brainiac.

Brainiac grimaced and transformed his arm into a musket, aiming directly at Clark’s heart and firing. Clark dodged out of the way, but the shot still managed to hit his left upper arm.

“Ahh!” Clark screamed in agony, and he immediately threw his dagger backhanded at Brainiac with all his might. The dagger plunged into Brainiac’s chest, and he grinned just before he exploded.

Then, Clark screamed once more, even louder, and there was a splash of blood. The musket ball exploding while inside Clark’s arm had completely lacerated it. Clark slumped to his knees from the pain and the immense loss of blood, the dagger landing back at his side.

“CLARK!” Lana screamed. She ran from the loft down to him as the ship disappeared, denying them a chance to destroy it, and allowing Brainiac to fight another day.

Chapter Thirteen

Lana ran over to Clark and knelt down beside him. Clark was panting heavily, his face pale. Lana pushed him onto his back.

“I’ll be okay, Lana,” Clark panted.

Lana looked down at his left arm. It just didn’t look to her like something he could ever recover from. She could see his bone. “Oh my God. Clark…you’re arm,” she sobbed in horror.

“Yes,” interjected a snide voice. “Although, Brainiac didn’t have nearly the desired effect on you that I had hoped. It appears that I had underestimated you.” She stared down at his useless arm with pleased malice. “Although, not by much.”

Lana looked up at Asthyer. “I dare you to underestimate me, she snarled.

Asthyer blinked, and laughed. “You honestly believe that you can manage to kill me?” she asked incredulously. “Well, you are most certainly welcome to try.”

“Lana, don’t,” Clark gasped.

*What is this?*

*Oh hello, Nor-el,” Clark said to him conversationally.

*What is going on here? I leave your state of consciousness for thirty Earth minutes, and this is what happens! Your arm is a bloody log, you are sprawled down on the ground, helpless like a - *

*You’re NOT helping!* Clark interrupted. *If you want to make yourself useful, find a way to help Lana. She wants to fight Asthyer.* Clark looked over to Lana, who looked fearful but determined, and then to Asthyer, who looked bored.

Nor-el pondered a moment. *Well, I cannot inhabit her body. It is simply impossible, she would be overwhelmed. Although…*

*What?*

*I could possibly inhabit that dagger you recently acquired. I would serve a similar purpose to her as I do to you, except the powerful burden would be outside her body.

Clark reached out and touched the dagger. He was unsure whether he could trust Nor-el with Lana, but his options at the moment weren’t great. And he had to act before Asthyer could sense a potential threat; at the moment, she seemed to be sizing up Lana like she was deciding how to kill her.

Clark subtly moved the dagger underneath him to try to hide the glow it was soon to be emitting. However, although he was able to hide most of it, it still managed to seep out from underneath his body. Thankfully, Asthyer didn’t seem to notice.

“Lana!” Clark called out to her. He threw her the dagger, which she was just barely able to catch by the handle. “You might need that,” Clark suggested.

Lana looked down at the blade, a little confused. However, much of that confusion stemmed from the fact that she knew exactly what to do.

Asthyer blinked. She had waited too long, the girl was a threat now. She focused on the center of Lana’s slim figure and fired a burst of heat vision, which Lana somehow knew to block with the dagger.

Asthyer then tried superspeeding up to Lana. But Lana, by some inexplicable and astonishing means, knew the exact timing to dodge her attack, using the dagger to stave her off and stop her in her tracks, giving Lana the opportunity to plunge the dagger into her stomach.

Asthyer stood there in pain. “There will…be…others,” she muttered, before she fell for the final time.

Clark, meanwhile, had been looking on with a shocked mug on him. Lana walked over to him and placed the dagger in his hand, it’s rightful owner, whose arm was rapidly beginning to re-grow it’s muscle and tissue.

Chapter Fourteen

Once Lana helped Clark up to the barn and onto the couch, she promised that she would stay with him as often as she could until he was healed. However, Clark assured her that it wouldn’t take that long. And he was right – by morning, Lana was amazed at how far along Clark’s arm had come. It still looked a little gruesome, but the bleeding had stopped, and Clark assured her that at this rate he would regain complete use of it by tonight. Not only that, but his complexion seemed normal, as though the pints of blood he had lost had been replaced. Incredible, thought Lana.

Lana had been wondering why Clark didn’t tell her about the other Kryptonians, but she had finally reached the conclusion that he didn’t want her to get thrown in the middle of all of this.

Throughout the day, Clark gave Lana the full disclosure on his background and current situation. He told her about Krypton, and he reflected on what it was like growing up being so different from everybody else. He also explained all of those times he acted peculiar – especially the time his body was inhabited by Lionel Luthor, much to Lana’s complete and total shock. Clark was just about to bring up Nor-el, who was still holed up in the dagger he clutched in his right hand, when the spirit intervened.

*I would advise against telling her about me,* he stated simply.

*Unless you can come up with a good reason in the next five seconds, I’m going to tell her anyway,* Clark shot back. *I’m not hiding anything from her if I can help it.*

*Your choice,* said Nor-el with a figurative shrug.

So Clark explained. He told Lana that the reason his eyes turned blue, and the reason he was able to defeat Zod and his disciples so easily, was because he was being inhabited by an ancient Kryptonian spirit. This caused Lana to raise an eyebrow.

“But he’s in this dagger now,” Clark explained hurriedly. “Which was how you were able to fight off Asthyer so easily. This also means that he isn’t an audience in my own head, if you know what I mean.” He said that last part slyly, which made Lana laugh.

“So what now?” Lana asked.

“I don’t know,” said Clark thoughtfully. “Brainiac – Milton Fine – is still out there somewhere. As long as that ship still exists, he can generate as many of himself as he needs over time. I’ll have a real fight on my hands.”

Lana reached for his hand. “You mean we will," she said with a smile.

Clark shook his head. “No, I’m not getting you involved in this.”

*Why not?* cut in Nor-el. She seems perfectly adept with that – what did you call it? – ‘Lana Fu.’*

*Forget it, Nor-el. I – wait! How do you know about that?* Then a thought struck him. *Have you been reading my mind?*

*Don’t worry, there weren’t too many chapters,* said Nor-el slyly.

That bastard.

Lana frowned. “You know, Clark, I may not be unbreakable like you are, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help out. I’m getting into this, whether you want me to or not.”

Clark sighed. He knew that if it hadn’t been for her, he probably wouldn’t be alive right now. But he couldn’t expect her to have the dagger all the time. She needed an edge of her own. He smiled.

alright, I'm hoping to update soon. But I'm still trying to figure out what kind of 'edge' to give Lana in this fight. If any of you can pm me suggestions, then I would really appreciate it

I know I haven't updated in a while, but that's because I've been brainstorming. Get ready for a blow-by-blow of Clark and Lana working together to take down a giant monstrosity. (Like Cartman from South Park) It'll kick ass!

Chapter Fifteen

As Clark led Lana to the caves, he wasn’t quite sure what to expect once they reached the fortress. Ever since he had defeated Zod the first time, he hadn’t heard from Jor-el until he was "killed" by Zod. He was hoping that his father would be more willing to talk, now that it turns out that Brainiac wasn’t destroyed as was believed.

Lana looked around in wonder as Clark led her into the portal entrance. She hadn’t seen this room before. As Clark inserted the key into the slot, he reached out to touch Lana’s hand and they were both transported to the Fortress.

Lana’s amazement at the small room quickly diminished with the sight of the ice structure she was now in. She had never seen anything more beautiful in her entire life. As her grip on Clark’s hand increased, Clark looked down at her and smiled. He then looked out into the depths of the fortress.

“Jor-el?” he called out.

Nothing.

“Jor-el!”

“I know why you are here, Kal-el,” cut in Jor-el’s voice. “And I cannot allow Lana Lang to fight. This is your battle.”

“That’s what I told her. Unfortunately, she’s as stubborn as I am,” Clark responded sullenly. “If she wants to help, then I can’t stop her. All I can do is make sure she has a fighting chance.”

There was a short silence. “There is Isobel,” Jor-el told them.

“I thought she disappeared,” Lana cut in. “How do you have her?”

“When Isobel committed murder with the stone, that was not the end of her business. However, she was thwarted by the murder weapon itself. Her spirit was transferred into the stone, and has been inhabiting these walls ever since.”

Clark practiced his habit of looking around for Jor-el’s voice. “And you expect Lana to take her back? After all she has done?”

“If Lana does indeed choose to fight, then this is her only option. However, it is not nearly as bad as it sounds. Isobel has been completely cleared of any state of mind. She is essentially an empty shell, leaving Lana free use of her powers.”

Clark looked down at Lana. “Is this what you want?” he asked her.

Lana looked up at him, returning his gaze. “If it will help, even a little, then I’ll do it,” she told him.

A crystal floated in front of Clark and Lana. “Then take this crystal,” Jor-el told her, “and all of Isobel’s powers will be channeled into you.”

Lana reached out tentatively for the crystal, which emitted a soft glow upon her touch. She withdrew her hand, and with a determined face wrapped her hand around the crystal.

Clark was expecting a blinding light to illuminate the fortress; however, Lana’s body was shaking as though the light was coming from inside her. Suddenly, a bright light emitted from Lana’s lower-back.

“AAAARRRRHHH!” Lana screamed.

“LANA!” Clark shouted.

Lana collapsed, and Clark caught her in his arms before she hit the ground.

I just felt I should make a point of saying that the dagger Clark has is nothing like the one he was given to kill Lex. It looks more like the one Fine turned his hand into behind his back in Hypnotic, if you know what I mean. Smaller, less clumsy, fits better in the hand.

Chapter Sixteen

Lana woke up to the sounds of a curtain flapping in the breeze. She sat up and found herself on the Kent’s sofa.

“Lana!” Clark ran over and crouched down to her level. He pulled her in for a hug, which she gladly returned.

“Clark…what happened,” Lana asked him.

Clark pulled away and looked at her. “Well, a few minutes after you passed out, I brought you back here. Jor-el promised me that you would be okay, and…” he hesitated, not sure how he should tell her this.

Lana looked at him, concerned. “Clark, what is it?”

“Jor-el told me that Fine has learned to manipulate his own programming,” Clark told her slowly.

Lana looked at him for a moment in confusion, before a light went off. “Oh God…you mean he can change his shape?”

Clark shook his head. “He has always been able to do that. But now he can be more creative. Any program he wants, any size, powers, or anything, he can create from that ship. Basically, if we have seen a meteor freak that can do it, then he can make a program that can mimic it.”

Lana looked at him in shock, then shook her head and smiled. “no problem for you, though.” She said confidently.

Clark sighed. “No, Lana. I would be vulnerable to whatever powers he came up with, and so would you.”

Lana’s smug air quickly evaporated. “Well, we still have a chance, don’t we?” She asked this as though she was wondering if a plug just might power a potato.

Clark nodded. “Right now, our top priority is finding that ship. But according to Jor-el, it could be anywhere.”

Lana hung her head. Anywhere was a lot of ground to cover. She looked up at him. “And what about my powers?”

Clark smiled. “See for yourself.” He led her over to a mirror and turned her facing him with her back to it, and he lifted up the back of her blouse. “Look,” he instructed.

Lana turned around, and she saw the symbol from Isobel once again burned into her lower back. She looked at Clark and smiled. “I want to try them out,” she said.

Clark laughed. “okay, which ones?”

Lana’s smile quickly vanished. She looked at Clark with a mixture of confusion and awkwardness.

Clark slapped his forehead. Duh, he thought. of course Lana doesn’t know any of Isobel’s powers.

Clark patted her on the arm. “Okay, let’s try one that I’ve seen Isobel use many times,” he told her. He walked across to the other end of the living room and, with a blue glow, summoned his dagger out of thin air. He then held it out to Lana with his palm flat. “Try to summon my dagger to your hand,” he instructed her.

As much as Lana liked the idea of doing a trick that was so Jedi, she wasn’t sure that she could pull it off. However she decided to give it a try. She reached her hand out and focused on the dagger with all the concentration she could muster, but to no avail. Frustrated, she concentrated even harder. Finally, something happened: a jolt of lightning shot out of her fingertips and hit Clark in the shoulder.

“AHH!” Clark yelled, clutching his shoulder.

Lana ran over to him, terrified at what she had done. Clark was still nursing his sore spot and swearing profusely.

“Clark, I’m so sorry!” Lana was freaking out over this. Then Clark did something surprising. He laughed.

“It’s okay, Lana.” He assured her. “I’ll be fine. But I didn’t know you went to the dark side.”

Lana laughed. “I’m full of surprises, Mr. Kent,” she said seductively, pulling him in and running her hands up his back. Clark enjoyed the closeness for several minutes, before suggesting that they try again.

Lana was apprehensive after what had happened last time, but her fear must have been what did it…a little too well. The dagger flew out of Clark’s hand and went straight for Lana.

“Lana!” Clark was about to run to intercept, but to his amazement Lana had dodged to her right, causing the dagger to hit the wall behind her and get stuck.

Clark looked at her and smiled. “Well, look at that! Jor-el has rebuilt you. He has made you better, stronger, faster…”

As pleased as Lana was by the results of her practice already, she couldn’t help but groan at Clark’s attempt to quote the Six Million Dollar Man. His poor impersonations were one of the few things she ever had to tolerate about him.

Chapter Seventeen

As the weeks progressed, so did Lana’s training. Of the three abilities Lana had discovered, she had nearly mastered two of them. Clark found her reflexes astounding (which was saying a lot, considering he himself put Neo to shame) and she was just starting to get the hang of levitating objects.

However, she still couldn’t bring her electric powers under control. They would go off at such inopportune times that Lana felt lucky she didn’t have to leave the farm (MetU still hadn’t opened yet).

“Don’t worry,” said Clark cheerfully. “I had the same problem with my heat vision. You just need to figure out what’s triggering these sparks.”

They were in the barn. Lana looked at him. “And what was triggering your heat vision?”

Clark was usually embarrassed when he was asked this, but this time he just smiled. “Knock me down, and maybe I’ll tell you,” he said cockily.

Lana frowned. It was a training exercise: the object was for Lana to knock Clark to the ground. Clark figured that if she could get as good with her powers as Isobel was, then she should be able to do it. She hadn’t even been able to touch him yet.

Clark smiled before disappearing as he always did. Before Lana could blink, he was looking down at her from the loft. Lana jumped up, grabbed the railing, and flipped over to face him.

But he was gone again.

“You keep trying the same tricks.” Lana turned and looked down to see Clark standing where she had been only five seconds earlier. “You have to improvise.” With that, he jumped up to the rafters.

Lana knew what to do, but she wasn’t sure if she could do it. Just think about what you were feeling all those times, she told herself. She reached her hand out and thought back to all those times she felt frustrated, or angry, or even that one time she felt whimsically sadistic (and gave Clark more of a wake-up call than she had intended).

And then she felt it. It started in her shoulder, and worked it’s way along her arm. Before she could blink, it shot out from her fingertips and struck the plank Clark was perched on. Clark gasped in surprise as he fell to the ground.

On his feet.

Lana closed her eyes in frustration. She still couldn’t do it. When she opened them, Clark was staring at her in awe.

“Did you do that?”
Lana nodded, suddenly feeling proud. “I just did what you said and thought back to how I was feeling at those times. Worked like a charm. And so does this.

As Clark stepped forward, Lana reached out and made a pothole in the ground. Clark stepped into it, lost his footing, and fell flat on his face.

As he looked up, Lana was standing over him. “Now,” she said smugly. “What was triggering your heat vison?”
