I'm in Texas, and the convention's in Illinois, so that's an 18-hour Greyhound trip each way. Flying may not be too expensive for the show, but it sure is for me at this point. I just bought a used portable DVD player to take on the bus with me ($50 on CraigsList).

My family is driving from New Mexico to Illinois to attend the Superman Celebration. We are combining it with a trip to visit family in Ohio, where I am from. It will probably take us about two days to get there if not less due to the way my spouse drives. I am really excited. I know now that the tickets for the Celebrity Autograph sessions are free and will be available only Friday and Saturday mornings at the Chamber of Commerce. The supplies are limited. With my family being along, I am not certain that will be an option for me, but I sure hope that I can talk my husband into going to that. It would be nice to get to meet Phil Morris, Justin Hartley and the others.

Every year, the town of Metropolis, IL (named by DC Comics as the "official home of Superman") hosts a 3-day convention / carnival event in celebration of Krypton's Last Son. Past guests over the last few years have included Noel Neill, Michael Rosenbaum, Helen Slater, Allison Mack, and John Schneider.

So far, this year's lineup includes Ms. Neill, Phil Morris, Justin Hartley and Beverly Washburn (who co-starred in the "Superman and the Mole Men" serial film as a child).

It is a 3-day "mega-convention", held in Metropolis, IL, that takes place every year in the middle of June. This year, some of the activities listed are a BMX bike show, videogame tournament, costume contest, weight-lifing competition, magic show, antique car exhibition, Q&A with both celebrities and writers & artists from the Superman comics, autograph sessions, and various music acts.

04-23-2009, 03:19 PM
I definitely cant wait to go. I'm about 6 hours away so i think i'll be renting a hotel so i can just wake up and go to the autograph signing right away instead of driving all night

moviefan2k4
04-23-2009, 11:07 PM
According to the posted schedule at the Metropolis website, the celebs will only be attending on June 13th. There are 4 autograph seassions scheduled, the first at 9am. To get into the sessions, you will need a ticket, which are given out on the 12th and 13th, starting at 7am. Tickets are limited to one for each celeb per customer, and the sessions are similarly organized. Each ticket gets you two (2) free signatures each from Phil Morris & Justin Hartley.

i have to agree as a diehard smallville fan we fans deserve a convention. creation puts supernatural conventions on their web site but yet to step up and do a smallville one. usually meeting smallville talent is by accident and its not cool to find out that way. i find it very rare to meet smallville peeps. last yr i lucked out and met michael rosenbaum and james marsters at dragon con in atlanta worth my trip. ill be posting pics of michael rosenbaum and james marsters if you guys like. got detained so never got around to it. anyway lets get a smallville convention organized any board mods know how we get about doing this.
by the way on a closing note for smallville new york fans john glover aka lionel luthor is in a play in new york called waiting for godot. he stars in it with john goodman.

Does Smallville do a convention for just the show?

Hey, this is totally random but does anyone know if Smallville is still filming in March usually? I'm trying to go to Vancouver for my birthday next year and thought it'd be neat to go while Smallville and Supernatural are still filming, cause you never know right lol.... so yeah... does anyone know what the filming schedule is like...?

If you're referring to the Superman Celebration, it's over and done with for this year. It takes place the second weekend of June, so you may want to plan for the 2010 show in advance.

As for other shows featuring "Superman" or "Smallville" stars, the most notable one in recent memory takes place in Cleveland, July 10-12, 2009. Among the various scheduled guests are Michael Rosenbaum, Sam Witwer, and "Supergirl" lead Helen Slater. You can find all the details at this link (http://www.screamingtikicon.com/).

Why would you get a "Superman Returns" poster signed by Slater, Rosenbaum, or Schneider, when none of them had anything to do with that movie?

bonoferox
08-03-2009, 05:35 AM
I thought about making it just a Returns project, but it was easier to just make it an all-inclusion Superman project since the Returns "S" design is my favorite :)
It was either that or I do the signature Cape idea, but the poster is easier to handle.

Same here. However I did went to Comic-Con this year and I got to actually see Erica and Tom but I didn't got to meet them up close in person or got their autographs though which was a bummer. They disappeared on us before we walked out of the Smallville panel. :( I really want to meet Erica and Tom up close in person, take a picture with them, and of course get their autographs like as much as I do with any of my favorite Star Trek stars. :D

So far, the only "Smallville" stars I've met are Laura Vandervoort, Phil Morris, and Justin Hartley (in that order). Laura was at Wizard World Texas 2007, and I met Phil & Justin at the annual Superman con in Metropolis, IL a few months ago. All of them were very nice and personable, though Justin looked exhausted.

Laura had two auto options: 1 item signed for $20, or 3 items for $40; I picked the latter. As for Phil & Justin, both were $20, but they didn't have their own 8x10s. So, I got both of them to sign the cover of my Season 6 companion book. :)

bonoferox
10-22-2009, 05:19 AM
When were Justin and Phil 20.00? They were signing everything for free when I was there. The only time I've seen anyone charge at the festival was Beverly Mitchell (?) and before that Jerry Maren, but it was still only about $5.00. The only time any big celebrity charged was 10.00 when Helen Slater had her own 8x10s.

My apologies; I stand corrected. The way it actually went down was that the showrunners gave away free autograph tickets (one each for Justin & Phil), but they were severely limited (only 1,000 tickets in all!) I had to show up at 4:30 AM on the second day, just to make sure I got mine!

Again, sorry for the screwup; I attend quite a few cons in the Dallas area (where I live), and the avergae price for almost any guest's auto is $20 a pop. The memories tend to blend sometimes.:\

This just in from Angie Shelton, one of the event organizers for the annual Superman Celebration...

State grant is awarded for Noel Neill statue project

The Metropolis Chamber of Commerce has been eagerly awaiting a decision concerning its application for state tourism funds for the Noel Neil Statue, and the good news has finally arrived.

An Illinois Tourist Attraction Grant in the amount of $29,550 has been awarded to the Metro Chamber for the project that will give visitors yet another attraction to see while visiting Metropolis. The six foot bronze statue will depict Noel Neil as Lois Lane and will feature a pedestal that will be constructed of engraved bricks, similar to the Superman Statue. The statue will grace the northeast corner of Eighth and Market streets.

Metropolis Chamber of Commerce President and Statue Committee Chairman Clyde Wills says that this in an excellent example of how things can be accomplished when area agencies and organizations work together. “It took efforts from the City of Metropolis, Banterra Bank, Metropolis Tourism, Southernmost Illinois Tourism Bureau, Metro Chamber and the Illinois Department of Tourism to make this statue a reality.”

The statue idea was presented to Neil as a gift during her 85th birthday party celebration in California several years ago. Neil is well known for her portrayal of Lois Lane in the memorable television series, The Adventures of Superman.

A small model of the statue is currently being completed for approval prior to production starting on the full-size statue. Plans are to have the statue in place for an unveiling by the next Superman Celebration in June 2010.

The artist who created the 15-foot Superman statue, Gary Ernest Smith of Highland, Utah, has been chosen to create the near life-size statue of Noel Neil. The statue will be cast in bronze at by Kevin Maag of Metal Arts Foundry in Lehi, Utah, who also was a part of the Superman statue project. Wills says that these two men have an impressive reputation for producing quality artwork.

The statue and base are expected to cost approximately $70,000. Earlier this year, the Metropolis City Council approved funding for up to $40,000 to complete the project. The city’s contribution will come from hotel/motel taxes, not city operational funds. Hotel/motel taxes are designated to be utilized for tourism projects only. Engraved brick sales will also cover a portion of the project cost.

Metropolis Mayor Billy McDaniel said the Noel Neill statue will provide another avenue for tourism noting that the two statues will encourage visitors to walk for several blocks along Market Street. McDaniel also expressed his gratitude to Banterra Bank for their generous donation of land. Banterra has leased land at the corner at Eighth and Market streets to the city, which will in turn lease to the Chamber of Commerce for $1 each year.

“This statue will be a lovely tribute to a lady who has given so much of herself to Metropolis,” says Lisa Gower, co-chairman of the Superman Celebration. Neill, also known as “The First Lady of Metropolis,” has been a frequent guest of the Superman Celebration and broke ground for the statue in June of this year.

Gower explains that personalized engraves brick sales are critical to the completion of this project. “Engraved bricks are available for $75 and make wonderful holiday gifts,” she added. Bricks may be purchased at the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce at 607 Market St. Information about the statue and bricks is also available at www.noelneillstatue.com or by calling 524-2714.

I've never been on a Smallville convention but I met some Smallville actors like Robert Picardo, Paul McGillion and Michael Rosenbaum (in 2007 while season 6 was about to be aired on M6- right now Smallville is on cable : that stinks!).

About my "meeting" with Michael, that's hilarious! PM me if you want to know what happened!

I would like to meet Michael again with Phil Morris, Kyle Gallner, John Schneider and Sam Witwer (I miss him in the show). As for Tom Welling and Erica Durance, it'll be tough.:(

Hopefully Tom Welling and Erica Durance will appear together at another convention. It would be amazing to get both of their autographs an a pic together with both of them. I would kike to go to the Comic Con in San Djego, because it is such a specific thing. You have the possibility to see the actors (in 2009 there were all actors , Tom Welling too) in nature and when you have luck, you can ask a question.
But the most interesting and exciting thing to go to the convention is the atmosphere, when there are 100s or 1000s of Fans waiting for the producers and actors and evrything. It is the specific atmosphere, which is in the room.

I used to go to conventions all of the time, and even helped produce some locally in the past, but currently finances and crazy family live haven't afforded me the opportunity. :(

If I were able to go, I'd be on pins and needles for San Diego Comic Con this week and the Smallville panel which will have wrapped up by this time next Sunday.

There is a convention in Seville (Spain) called Superheroes and they have confirmed Justin Hartley so far, but will be more from Smallville.

East Coast USA, sure. That's where I'm at. But I'd be one of those people who showed up and decided he was too good to dress up or interact in anyway and is just gonna listen to what the actors/showrunners have to say and then book it before the crazies swarm him with their comic-book allusions. Heh. Nah, no due offense <3 Smallville fanbase is epic.

My best friend and his gf went to a random convention back in June and the chick that plays Kara was there ( they said she was really nice and small lol) and Adam West was there. They said Adam West was rather eccentric, he was saying really random off the wall things. But hey when you go through most of your life being "batman" i guess your allowed to be a weird.

I am new to this Thread so I apologize if this has been brought up but has there been any attempts to contact CREATION ENTERTAINMENT regarding a SMALLVILLE convention?

They do regular Conventions all over the World for various TV series and Movies.
Priimarily STARGATE,SUPERNATURAL,TWILIGHT are the main shows..

They have a couple of Conventions every year in Vancouver.

Their website lists SMALLVILLE memorabilia so maybe they will do a SMALLVILLE convention in the near future.

I have been to the STARGATE convention.
Had a nice chat with MICHAEL SHANKS...

I will email CREATION to see if there will be a SV convention in the near future..

hey everyone, so i finally live in california, and my buddy got me free tickets to Comic-Con and of course, its the year smallville isn't there. But i just finished my Red Blue Blur costume, and am gonna be proud to wear it. Anyone else going as something from Smallville? I'm planning on wearing my RBB costume when i go to the Being Human panel, and maybe meet Sam Witwer while wearing it.

I just read on the official web site of Laura Vandervoort, who will be on Saturday at Comic-Con to promote a new Spiderman videogame (in which is the voice of Mary Jane). Then, at least she, will be there... :)
Enjoy the CCon, here in Italy events like this are only a dream...

Hey, I'll be there tomorrow, Friday, and Sunday if you want to meet up! I will probably be the Heath Ledger Joker tomorrow but will be doing Lex Luthor costume Friday or Sunday. Let me know what days you'll be there and we can plan to meet up? Send me a message; sounds like a great idea I hear Al Gough and Miles Miller will be there Sunday so maybe we could go there and sneak in a few "Smallville" questions...

And WB has something for "Smallville", BlueRanger? Do you know where we can find info on this?
