That's so stupid. Are scientists really that bored? Maybe Mike Brown needs to go get him a woman or man (whichever he prefers) to help fill his downtime. I'm no science geek, but I was taught in school that Pluto was a planet, so that's what I'm sticking with. :D

I'll agree with you on that!
Ok, Pluto is not a planet anymore- children are gonna be happy-one less planet to learn about.
Point is that if pluto is a planet still, than there are 3 more new rocks that are behind the pluto. So we would have 12 planets and last 3 would have some stupid names. They are all small and extremely hard to see- discovered all in last 5-10 years. And just like pluto, they are not like other planets in several aspects. So eventualy, we would have 55 planets 30 years from now.
Also, Pluto was discovered in 1930. by some American, just like those few 'rocks' that were also discovered by Americans-(i am not completely sure about that), so this was not really about Pluto, but about America vs Europe.(from astronomers point of view)

117 is correct they discovered more "planets" behind pluto

In related news, Tom Cruise is no longer a star. :)
But in all seriousness, I feel deceived by the decision to demote Pluto. I was taught that my solar system had NINE planets. NINE! This news makes me question EVERYTHING I know.
Like, what the hell is a tomato - a fruit or a vegetable?

 Easily fixed! Just remember, My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nachos!!! Problem solved! ;)
Seriously though.... I remember learning in school that it was possible that Pluto might not be a planet, so it's not surprising that the damn scientists finally got off their butts and made up their minds.

I want some Nachos!
Kidding aside, in the New York Planitarium...not sure what its called, Pluto isn't a planet so I guess they got it right after all these years.

What I want to know is will they change exam syllabuses and questions? Thats a whole lot of effort, they'll have to reprint textbooks too and schools have enough budjet issues without stretching to new textbooks for the entire physics department= in my school that would be about 1000 books they would have to buy.

Despite Planetary Downgrade, Pluto is Still Disney's 'Dog Star'
In reaction to news today that Pluto was demoted to the status of "dwarf planet," the Seven Dwarfs issued their own short statement:
"Although we think it's DOPEY that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people GRUMPY and others just SLEEPY, we are not BASHFUL in saying we would be HAPPY if Disney's Pluto would join us as an 8th dwarf. We think this is just what the DOC ordered and is nothing to SNEEZE at."
As Mickey Mouse's faithful companion, Pluto made his debut in 1930 – the same year that scientists discovered what they believed was a ninth planet. Said a white-gloved, yellow-shoed source close to Disney's top dog, "I think the whole thing is goofy. Pluto has never been interested in astronomy before, other than maybe an occasional howl at the moon."
