Title/Link: A Name Never Forgotten
Author: Vincente
Rating: PG-13
Summary: I know it's much over-used, but I'm too lazy to think of my own ideas... Anyhow, Lana Lang left for Paris after Clark Kent left for Metropolis in Exodus and never came back. While in Paris she became a fashion designer and slowly worked her way up the corporate ladder until she became the best designer in the business. Almost everyone in the United States and France could recognize her for her great designs and exotic beauty. The only thing that stayed a mystery about her was her love life. Almost every man who met her asked her to a date. She would politely turn them down saying she had something else on her mind. No one could figure out what held her from dating. She could have any man on the planet, yet it seemed someone else always occupied her thoughts.

Lana was shuffling through fliers in her limo when the woman next to her started describing something about the Daily Planet wanting an interview with her while she was in Metropolis. She usually didn’t give interviews due to how tight her time in each city usually was, but her PR director told her it would be a good idea since this place is so close to her hometown. She tore her eyes away from the fliers for a second to tell her PR director that they might need to cancel the interview because her schedule was basically packed to the brim. “But Ms. Lang, two of the best reporters in the state of Kansas are part of this team. They could make a crazy old woman sound like a goddess in an interview. It’d be great for PR.” Lana lifted up an eyebrow when she looked over at her PR director. “Are you telling me I’m a crazy old woman?” Her PR director let out a nervous laugh. “No, no, of course not. I’m just saying they’re really good at what they do. Here, I printed out both their bios.” She hands two packets of information about the reporters. Lana skimmed through the first packet reading everything from Lois Lane’s relation to her father General Sam Lane to her current place of work. She threw the packet aside and looked down to see who the next boring ‘I’ll make you sound like a goddess’ reporter was. She coughed twice when she saw the picture and started beating herself with one fist until her coughing fit was over. She was completely flustered and she could feel her cheeks were bright red. She couldn’t look away from the picture. She didn’t believe it was possible to ever see that smile again. The PR director looked over at her and smiled. “He’s a handsome one, isn’t he Ms. Lang? That Clark Kent sure has some charm.”

Clark walked up to his cubicle for another day of sitting at his computer writing another Superman Saves The Day story. He always felt weird looking at himself from a reporter’s perspective. He just shrugged his shoulders and began typing when someone tapped his shoulder. He looked over and saw someone trying to read his story. “Mornin’ Smallville. Already started on another one of your boring tales about Supes?” Clark just looked up at Lois and gave her a sly grin. “Of course, what else would I do with my time outside of writing boring tales about Superman that turn up on the front page?” Lois was about to give him a smart remark back when she heard Perry White shout out Clark’s name to come to his office. “Same thing everyday Smallvile, Perry calls for ya ten minutes after you arrive to yell at you for something then congratulate himself on giving you a splendid idea on a story.” Clark just laughed and walked over into Perry’s office. After ten minutes Lois got tired of waiting for Clark to return. She sat down at his computer wondering what she was going to do to it when she saw his picture folder. She grinned and clicked on it. She was going to transfer all his Supes pictures to herself and delete them off his computer. She was about to go grab a disc when she saw a file marked ‘Lana Lang’ ‘God, another salivating male fan of Lana Lang. It seems every man on this planet has some freakin’ addiction to this girl. I might as well see what sort of pictures he has of her in his file.’ She double-clicked it and waited for it to load. She was surprised at what she saw. It was a picture of Lana when she was probably 16, long before she became famous for what she did in Paris. Lana was smiling as though nothing in the world could bother her and was waving at the camera. Lois was extremely curious of how Clark got these pictures and clicked to see the next one. Wow! Now she’s defiantly interested. It was a picture of what must have been Clark at 16 standing next to Lana waving at the camera. She quickly scrolled through the pictures and stopped on one in particular. She couldn’t believe what she saw. Smallville was sitting under a large oak tree with Lana Lang in his arms. They were both looking at each other as though nothing in the world mattered except for them. She scrolled to the next picture and it was of them kissing. ‘Smallville dated Lana Lang when he was a kid and never told anyone? Not only is he a total nerd but he dated Lana Lang! You’d think he’d be bragging to everyone in the entire country about how he once dated the infamous Lana Lang. She’s notorious to staying away from love. He must have had some charm back then, defiantly different from his bumbling self now.’ She saw the door to Perry’s office open and she quickly exited out of the program and stood up. Clark looked over at her with a puzzled look in his eye and walked over to his desk. “So, what exactly were you doing on my computer Miss Lane? Stealing more Superman pictures for your own lame stories?” She gave him a sheepish grin and was happier that he didn’t catch her then anything else. “You caught me Smallville, can’t keep my eye off Supes.” She saw him grin at that and thought he was smiling at his victory on that one, when he was actually grinning at her mentioning not being able to keep her eyes off of Superman. He was about to respond when the door to the newsroom flung open. A lot of people looked over to see who was the intruder and gasped at what they saw. Most of them just dropped their work and continued to stare. Lois noticed who it was too and immediately looked at Clark. She saw his eyes flinch from horror to despair. He quickly shuffled away from her muttering something about an important case and started to run out the door.

Lana was looking around the newsroom completely oblivious to all the stares. She was searching for one person in particular. How to God she hoped he was also transfixed and staring. She looked at the back of the room and saw him. She started to run toward him, “Clark! Wait, Clark. Please! Clark!” She stopped next to his desk when she saw him run out knowing she’d never be able to catch up. She slumped against his desk and started to cry. Everyone continued to stare confused as to what was happening. They had no clue why Lana Lang would just barge into the Daily Planet’s newsroom demanding for Clark Kent. One person did come over to her though. The girl shot out her hand and Lana shook it quietly while still laying against the desk feeling defeated. “Lois Lane, nice to meet you Ms. Lang.” Lana merely looked up and smiled before looking back down. “So you were looking for Smallville? What could a big girl like you want from a smalltown bumbling reporter like him?” Lana just looked up at her and replied meekly, “More then you’ll ever know.” Lois looked down at her concerned. “Well if it’s any consolation, he has some pictures on his computer that I’d like to show to you.” Lois sat down and scrolled through the picture dictionary till she got to the ‘Lana’ file and opened it up. Lana gasped along with half the room when she saw the picture of Clark and her sitting under their oak tree. She missed his warm embrace, his arms as they wrapped around her and kept her safe and away from the world. She couldn’t control her mouth; she could only hear it as she felt herself spill her guts to Lois Lane. She didn’t know who this person was, but she seemed like a friend of Clark’s and if she could get her closer to him, she would do whatever it took. The rest of the room pretended to continue working on their paperwork. Lois could tell they were listening in and wondered if Lana was either oblivious to it or didn’t care. She picked the former when the room oo’ed at the part about Clark giving the toast at Lex’s Wedding. Lana stopped talking after she told the part about Clark getting on the motorcycle and riding to Metropolis never to come back. Lois had a million thoughts going through her head at one time and didn’t respond immediately. ‘Ok, Smallville dated Lana Lang, he was best friends with Lex Luthor, and he ran away from home and from the woman he claimed he loved. No wonder he’s such a bumbling idiot now. If he had any more excitement in his life he would crash and burn. That guy’s life was more action packed then a Hollywood movie, and that was all before he was old enough to even smoke.’ She looked down and saw that Lana’s tears have dried and was sitting still staring off into space. Lois looked down at her and had a sympathetic look in her eyes. “Lana honey, would you like to come stay with me while you’re in Metropolis? I’m sure we could figure out some way to get Clark to meet up with you and see the woman he’s been missing out on all these years.” Lana looked up at her and smiled once before turning her stare back at the wall. Lois gritted her teeth and thought to herself, ‘That’s exactly what I’m going do, I’m going to show Smallville the mistake he made by leaving his home and her behind.’

Clark adjusted his tie as he stared at himself in the mirror and grinned sheepishly. He thought he looked dashing, so to say himself. Lois sent him a text message earlier that day saying that she wanted to see him at her apartment at six o’clock for dinner. He thought maybe the thought of another woman seeing something in Clark scared her into thinking that maybe Clark was more then meets the eye. He saddened for a minute as his thoughts drifted to Lana Lang. He wondered why she would come and find him after all this time. She was a celebrity, one of the most popular people in the world. She should have forgotten about him a long time ago. She probably just came to speak her mind, to tell him what he did was wrong and she wanted him to pay for it. He hated how his life worked this way, he would have to push away from the ones he loved most to keep them from harm. That’s where Lois came into the equation. She was smart, a reporter, spicy, and most of all in love with his alter-ego. She still hasn’t seen through his costume, but he knew if he gave her time she would one day. One of the biggest reasons of his love for her was that he’s been dating her as Superman, yet she’s never gotten in danger, never in trouble. This must be the woman he’s destined to be with if Jor-El has never attempted at her life. He felt his cell phone vibrating in his pocket and glanced downward to notice it was Lois calling. He could feel his grin shape onto his face as he answered the phone. “Hello there?”
“Smallville, I might be busy finishing some touches on the apartment when you get here, so just open the door and let yourself in.” He hinted a flirtatious tone in her voice and it caused his grin to spread even farther. He wasn’t sure earlier, but he knew now that she wasn’t going to use her usual excuse when she invited him over as ‘business planning’. “Sure thing.” He clasped the cell phone and shut it down before heading toward Lois’s apartment.

Lana shuffled impatiently and began to play with the curls in her hair for the millionth time. She knew that playing with them over and over again wasn’t going get him here anytime sooner. She began wiping away some invisible dirt on her blouse and Lois just stood in the corner and chuckled. She couldn’t believe that she had the Lana Lang sitting in her apartment completely stricken with nerves at the thought of a bumbling journalist. She looked at her watch once and noticed it was nearing 6 o’clock. She shuffled out of the apartment before waving to Lana and wishing her luck. A few minutes after she left Lana heard the door open and Clark walked in. She lost all sense of thought when she took in his appearance. He still took her breath away as he did so long ago. He was dressed in a suit but she could see that it looked like it was about to tear off due to his huge frame. “Lois, hello? Anyone home?” Lana let out a deep breath before answering. “Hey Clark… Lois said she had to go grab something from the store for dinner. She said she’ll be back sometime soon.” Clark looked over at Lana and saw how she was dressed and her appearance still took away his breath. He just shook the thoughts out of his head. He should have figured it out, Lois wouldn’t just suddenly show interest in him just because another woman had come into town, he was duped. Used. He sighed. He thought he was smarter, he thought he was more in tuned with how a woman thought, but knew he’d never figure out the opposite sex. “Lana… hey. Well, if Lois is out buying something for dinner I might as well go get something from my apartment that I forgot, if she comes back before I do, tell her I needed to grab something.” Clark turned around and shut the door before Lana had a chance to respond and he quickly supersped to the oversized superstore knowing Lois would be hiding out here, not actually buying anything, just trying to stall for time and if he called she would use the background noise to make it look like what she told Lana she was doing.

Lana sighed as she saw Clark quickly file out of the door and shut it before she had a chance to respond. Funny how life worked. She had ten million men Googling her everyday and sending her fan mail asking her to marry them and yet the one man she wants is trying to stay as far away from her as possible. She knew getting Clark back was going to be a lot harder then she wanted it to be.

Lois was sitting in the candy aisle waiting for a call from Lana to see if Clark ever arrived when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She huffed impatiently and turned around only to see Clark standing behind her with his arms crossed. “So, candy? Quite a meal you must be planning Ms. Lane. Or maybe that’s just for unidentified house guests.” Lois sighed because she knew she was caught but she knew how much Lana loved Clark so she wasn’t going wimp, defiantly not now. “Smallville, you are the biggest wimp! Why do you keep running away from her, she just wants to talk!” Clark laughed nervously back at her. “Let’s just say, we have a lot of history, and I’m not one to repeat history.” Lois just grunted at him and muttered under her breath. “Wimp…” and she turned on her heels and walked out. Clark just sighed and went back to his apartment and turned out the lights to go to sleep. He had a rough time going to sleep, a million thoughts were swarming through his head. The last one that came before he dozed off was, ‘I should talk to Lana… I am being a wimp by not even speaking to her.’

Lana nervously shuffled in her outfit and made sure there was no dust or strands on her blouse or skirt. The Metropolis news team wanted an interview with her and she knew that the question of her love life was going to come up sometime doing the interview, because it always does. She was ready to reveal her feelings, to force the world into knowing her undivided love for Clark Kent. She saw the interviewer approach and let out a nervous sigh.

Clark was busy working on a paper that’s deadline was soon arriving, or he wanted the deadline to arrive soon to keep his mind off yesterday’s events. Nobody in the newsroom spoke to him about what happened yesterday, they knew Clark who was already a bumbling idiot when it came to socializing would be even more embarrassed to speak when it came to Lana Lang charging in here to speak to him. He groaned when he heard the TV’s message come in loud and clear. The TVs were never turned off, nor never turned away from the news channel. “Today we have an interview with the famous Miss Lana Lang!” Clark noticed the room almost go completely silent after that statement. It seemed all the shuffling of papers stopped when that name was mentioned. He could feel eyes glancing over at him. “Miss Lana Lang, welcome to Metropolis. We are so glad to have you here.”
“Thank you, thank you. I am also very glad to be here.”
“So, Miss Lane, is business running smoothly?”
“Yes, I couldn’t ask for better times. Business has been great.”
“How does it feel to be in Metropolis, you grew up near by didn’t you?”
“Yes, in a small town called ironically, Smallville. A great place, loved it very much. Sad to have left it.”
“Anything in particular that you truly miss?”
“Oh, too many to count.”
“Now the question of the day, or actually the question of the year. Are you ever going to find yourself some love?” Clark could see Lana let out a nervous chuckle at that question.
“Well, actually, I am in love.” Clark could immediately tell that the reporter wasn’t ready for that and was slightly taken aback. She probably had a series of back-to-back questions planned and didn’t expect Lana to answer that one the way she did. “Oh, well inform us in! Who’s the mystery man and why have you been hiding him?”
“Well, I haven’t been hiding him. He was my high school sweetheart and he vanished after our sophomore year. I just found out he was working in this city recently.”
“Wow that sounds really romantic. So who’s the lucky guy and why is he not here?”
“Well, we aren’t dating right now, but I hope we do. His name is Clark, Clark Kent.”
Clark just groaned and pushed his head into the paper stack that was on his desk as he felt all eyes divert onto him. Perry White heard the entire thing and was completely surprised anyone would actually like his ace reporter, ace reporter that was a bumbling moron. He called out, “Kent, meet me in my office right now.” Clark slumped his shoulders and walked to Perry’s office and closed the door. “Kent, I need you to do a story for me.”
“What would that be sir?”
“Well for this story you’ll need to schedule an interview with someone to correctly write the article.”
“And who do I need to do the interview with?”
“A Miss Lang, Kent.” Perry smiled to himself and told Clark to get his ass out there or he’ll be fired.

Ok dokie, I don't really like this story so I'm going make it extremely short and most likely bad written like this update! Go me! :D

I don't know why you are say that you don't care for the story. I'm really loving it so far. I think it is very amusing that a world famous Lana Lang is trying so hard to rekindle her relationship with Clark.

I'm looking forwarded to what Clark is going to do in his attempts to extricate himself from the inevitable, before finally giving in.

Hey Vincente, I know you said earlier that this was not a favorite fic of yours to write....however, I find it very interesting. PPMS! Even if you have to end it, I'd love to see how Clark reacts to Lana's very public admission...a very cool representation of a feisty Lana - willing to try anything for love!!!!

I'm sorry I haven't thrown an update in yet, but as mentioned on my other fic, I just got through buying a new car and I've gotten pretty sick. Being sick and owning your own restaurant doesn't work well. My workload has been extremely bad going through finances without actually being at the shop.
