Mario would be my choice, as not only were the games fun, but they also spawned off a lot of other good games (i.e., Mario Kart, Smash Bros., etc.). Sure, the storyline is simple, but if I wanted an involving story, I'd read manga, watch anime, or something from the Buffyverse. When I play a game, I just want to have fun, and not be concerned with a complex storyline. Street Fighter would be in second place, simply because I love fighting games, love their characters, and gameplay methods.

as far as figthing games, i'm kind of partial to tekken, but as far as series of games i'd go with final fantasy. i kind of like to go into another world and they are great at that.

i think the best video game series is the super mario series. not so much the spin offs. i'm just talking about the platformers. the stories for each game wasn't the most complex (as yuui previously mentioned), but the simple gameplay and challenges throughout the game are great (if you haven't played the new super mario bros. for the ds, go and play it right now for an example).

rounding out the top three, i'd go with the legend of zelda series with the second spot, followed by the final fantasy series.

Final Fantasy or Resident Evil I can't really decide.:p

But since I started the FF Thread I'll say that Final Fantasy is the best video game series.

Some different ones that are great:

Final Fantasy

Silent Hill (how could this not be mentioned yet, superiorly scary to Resident Evil, whereas RE is a shooter/have things jump out of refrigerators, SH is actually a horror game)

Kingdom Hearts

Ultima (bet not many people realize there are Ultima games that aren't Ultima Online)

Prince of Persia (the first and last games in the current generation of these games - Sands of Time and The Two Thrones, I hated The Warrior Within)

Mario gets honorable mention for being old school fun, but I never liked the current generation of Mario games (I might enjoy the new DS one, if I had a DS)

^ One of my favorite series, ah the days of spending umpteen amount of hours playing Ultima 3 (my favorite of course)
and the music in that final castle was THE best
"All May Enter, None Shall Leave"

The Ogre Battle series, not as popular, but a great concept in RPG's

Heroes Of Might And Magic - ive got them all

I beg to differ.

Differ all you want, I've played both, and the only thing scary about any of the RE's I've played is trying to figure out how anyone could like them better.

I'm still going with Final Fantasy as the best, but what do you guys think about the King's Quest series? Or the Warcraft series-- not just WoW, but the RTS games, too. Or Grand Theft Auto?

Either:

Command & Conquer
Mario
Sonic
or Final Fantasy

I'd say it's a tie between them all.

Why would I make a claim on something I have no idea about?? Silent Hill is a retarded series. No fun involved in any of the games in that series.

RE has moments especially in the first and second ones where things pop out of nowhere, that my friend is scary shi*. Besides, play RE4 if you think the games are "bad".

MidgardDragon

I played RE4. The gameplay was innovative, the story was **** and scary does not = things that go bump in the night.

PS: No one accused you of not playing both games, but your silliness is showing by calling Silent Hill retarded then saying RE is scary because things jump out of nowhere.

To be honest, it's useless arguing this with you or anyone for that matter. What one perceives to be frightening is something another person might not.

So I'll leave it at this, I prefer "things that go bump in the night" as scary as opposed to the psychological approach silent hill has.

F.E.A.R. is the scariest game i've ever played.

Never played silent hill and resident evil just sucks ass apart from re2 (not played 4).

resident evil just sucks ass

Truth. :D

Never played silent hill

You should really pick one up. I suggest starting with SH2 to get an appreciation for the eerie atmosphere and psychological nature of the games, then going back to SH1 to learn that storyline (which is then continued in SH3). SH4 I can really take it or leave it. It was nowhere near as fun or creepy as the first 3 games, but it had it's incredibly scary moments.

As for your comment towards re, if you haven't played all the games in the series how can you possibly make a generalization?

I've played them all apart from 4, I don't want to play 4 although I have heard good things.

Seeing as i've played them all bar one, I think I can made a generalization, mate ;)

Actually I gotta agree with Teller.. RE just didn't do it for me.

DarkseidX

RE doesn't do it for a lot of people. That, however, doesn't make the game bad.

I am not a fan of puzzle games, does that make games like Lumines bad? Not at all, it just means I don't like it.

MidgardDragon
09-27-2006, 03:33 PM
But saying you're not a fan of puzzle games and thus don't like Lumines, is a lot different than *being* a fan of horror games and thinking Resident Evil is bad. One is based on genre preference, the other is based on game quality. But, as you say, different strokes for different folks, but I've yet to play a RE game that made me genuinely frightened, or even remotely scared, thus it's not my cup of tea for horror games.
