Hey all, I'm new to the board and to Smallville, so this is my first posting.

Okay so I know that using this song for the Superman movies is totally typical, but I just couldn't help myself. :p

My interest in Superman has been rekindled since Superman Returns came out and I had the urge to do a vid for Superman's I and II. :) I've always been a Superman fan, but after seeing SR I really wanted to do a video for our favorite Man of Steel.

I hope anyone who watches enjoys it and kind comments are most welcome. :)

Superman (http://www.neuralcluster.net/offtopicvids/Superman.zip) (25.8 MB)

Spoilers: Superman I and II
Pairing: Superman(Clark) and Lois
Rating: PG
Music: Five For Fighting
Disclaimer: The character Superman and this song do not belong to me.

HRS you did a fantastic job on this. The pacing was just right and you were really in tune with the song. But most importantly in the eyes of this vidder your scene selection was simply superb.

I loved how you faded in and out of scenes at the start, in sort of a teasing manner, just a really great way to start (and you timed it brilliantly with the music, and the inclusion of credits here was great, however I'm not sure why you had credits at the end as well... and the "Property of WB" disclaimer at the start sort of takes you "out of the moment" in a way and should really be saved for the end in my opinion, lol)

- 020, loved this scene choice for "I can't stand to fly" with that drunk-on-evil look on our favorite hero, worked perfectly (and then he fell out of the sky because he can't stand to fly, makes sense to me:cool:  )
- 030, awesome scene for "I'm just out to find" with young Supes holding that green crystal (which isn't kryptonite apparently even though it's green...bad idea by the film makers, heh)
- 039, great timing of the suit switch, right on the strong beat:cool:
- 042, loved how you coupled these two similar scenes of Superman saluting people because apparently he's spent time in the armed forces, lol (well the second one wasn't so much a salute as it was a "bingo you got it" type gesture, but similar gestures nonetheless)
- 043, "pretty face beside a train", the natural choice, the perfect choice:cool:
- 056, nice zoom in zoom out thing you did here and great scenes for "wish that I could cry", it was cool how you went back and forth between the scenes
- right after at 102 it was awesome how you did a similar back-and-forth between those scenes for "fall upon my eyes", very artistic vidding:)
- 120, lol I knew you would choose this scene of Clark beat up for "the right to bleed", once again the perfect choice:cool:
- the next scene for "I may be disturbed" was really funny, lol great choice
- 145, the hug here for "it's alright" was perfect
- 153, hilarious scene for "I'm not crazy or anything"
- 201, man Superman really can't stand to fly, can he. LOL he really seemed to be forcing himself to do it, he was in Hell the whole time....
- right after at 204, the expressions on Reeve here were hilarious with "I'm not that naive", lol
- the shot freeze and slight zoom at 223 looked awesome
- 235, this part was really fantastic with the music, the close shot of Clark taking his glasses off overlaid with those scenes was beautiful, especially with the Lois/Superman flying scene, loved that
- 244, another beautiful overlay idea, also Clark ripping his shirt open was perfect with "inside of me"
- 254, lol hilarious little scene right here with that hippie dude vibrating and all after making his "acquaintance" with the Man of Steel, very funny with the song
- 307, the flashes of scenes with the music was a great idea
- very nice ending as well, Superman walking out of the office after having sacrificed love and happiness was perfect for "it's not easy to be me"

Really great job on this vid HRS. Chris Reeve was truly the perfect Superman and this video really makes that clear. Welcome to the board.:)

HRS,

I have a question for you.

Was this your first video that you have done, or is it the first video you have posted on KSite?

If this was your first video that you have done, I am amazed, because there are a lot of veteran vidders that don't make vids as good as this. If you are an experienced vidder, and this was your first video you posted on KSite, I look forward to a lot more from you.

The thing I enjoyed most about this video was the pacing. With this song, people either have a tendency to make the video too slow, or too fast. I made a Smallville video on Clark to this song, and I will admit, that I made mine a bit too fast paced. The pacing on your video was perfect. It wasn't too slow, nor too fast. It was just right.

Your scene selection was just brilliant as well. You chose all the best scenes from the two films and matched them up with the lyrics brilliantly in my opinion.

The editing for this video was spot on as well. Really enjoyed when you matched the beats in the song at times. It was especially cool how you did this during a superimpose @ 1:37. I am curious what software you use to edit with, because of the fact that you had some superimposes in your video, which I know can't really be done with WMM. I personally use Vegas from Sony and Avid Express for my stuff.

Overall this was just a brilliant video from start to finish and I feel that you truly did the song justice.

This video is a keeper for me.

Hey X-Man! Thank you for the PM about your review here, I appreciate it. :) The reason I do credits at the beginning...Well, it kinda depends. Sometimes I do it at both the end and the beginning, and sometimes just at the end. It all depends on the song. Sometimes beginning songs just need opening credits and sometimes they don't. *Shrug* That's all I can really say about it. :)

Thanks for your in-depth, detailed review. :) I'm thrilled to receive such feedback! And thanks for the welcome. It's good to be here. :) And thanks again for the PM about your Superman vid to Dare You To Move. I'll be sure to check it out soon! ;)

To answer your first question, vyperman7, no I am most definitely not a new vidder. ;) I've been vidding for a little over 2 years now. I've made almost 40 vids in total for various fandoms. I'm glad to hear you are looking forward to more from me, it's flattering, thanks. :) I do plan on vidding for Smallville soon, once I finish a few more seasons, hehe.

As for your other question about what software I use, I use Vegas as well, version 5.0. :)

Thank you for all your wonderful comments. :)

I had a feeling you used Vegas or a higher end non linear editing system because of the superimposes. It is cool to see that you are a veteran vidder. Glad to have you here.

By the way, if it isn't too much trouble, I think you should really open up a video thread in this section with some of your other work. I would love to see some more of your stuff. What other fandoms have you made videos for?

No trouble at all, I'm planning on it. ;) The bulk of my work has been for a SciFi show called Farscape. I've also done some for Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica (the new one), Spider-Man and currently a SR one. :)

I would definately love to see your Spider-Man and SR vids. I have never seen Farscape, SG-1 or BG though. Otherwise I would definately want to watch.. :)

Have you ever watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel? I have been making Smallville vids over two years myself, but in the last few months I recently got into making BTVS vids and hope to make a few Angel ones as well. BTVS and Angel vids are some of my favorite ones to watch so if you have ever watched either show, I would love to see some from you. :)

Thanks again for the awesome feedback on my Numb and Journey vids by the way. It is really nice to get detailed feedback. It is frustrating when people just leave the typical "good video" response.

Hehe, no worries there, RKR. :) You know that I plan on vidding for Lex above all else. You're free to be creative with Clark...at least for a while. :D

Well both my SR and Spider-Man vids are currently in the works, for the moment. I actually made my Spider-Man vid over a year ago but I somehow deleted it and none of my friends have it either, so I'm trying to remake it. And I just started my SR vid and I'm being extremely picky on it, so that one will be a while too. ;) (Probably a few days on that one, Spider-Man will be a little longer)

Even though you haven't seen FS, SG-1 or BSG, you are still welcome to watch my vids, once I get them up. ;)

BTVS and Angel aren't really my thing. I've seen them before, but...yeah, just not my thing. ;) So you're outta luck on that one! I'm sure yours are all very awesome vids, though. :)

No problem at all, I know exactly what you mean. :) I try to make a point of leaving good detailed feedback for vids that are really good and that I personally love. And I always love good, in-depth feedback for my own works, so I try to do the same for others. :)

HumansRSuperior,

I was a bit hesitant about watching another Superman music vid set to Five for Fighting, because there have been soooo many, lol!
I just feel that because so many people have used that song for Superman vids, the music vids themselves, get a bit predictable. But after reading some of the comments left by vyperman, xanderman, and RedKRush I thought I'd check it out....

This was a phenommenal, uplifting, and emotional vid. I really enjoyed it.

The fades/flashes and pace were all perfectly timed and placed.

Great job.

SM2007, I was hesitant about making this video for the same reason you were hesitant about watching it. I knew that tons of vids had been made to this song already and it felt just so overused and cliche for me to do it. But the urge was too great, and I did it. :p I'm glad that you decided to give it a try, too. :) I'm glad that it wasn't a disappointment and that you enjoyed it so thoroughly. Thank you for all the kind comments. :)
