Chapter Twenty Four – Reckoning
Unknown Voice: “Hello, may I speak to Robert, please?”
Robert: “What do you want? Didn’t I tell you not to call again?”
Unknown voice: “Yeah, but this time I really need your help. I’m in trouble”
Robert: “You’ve lost that right the second you… Well, you know what you did. So just leave me alone”
Unknown voice: “but…” Robert cuts it off. He hangs up.
Robert laid there, motionless, thinking of what just happened. His dirty-blonde hair waving in the air that the air conditioning was blowing. His greenish eyes fixed on the roof. His breath becoming more steady every second that passed. His anger rising from within his muscular chest. “How did that person dare to call again? Doesn’t she know how much it hurt me?”
*********
A beautiful weekend. A long one! Four days without doing anything. Just lay there under the shining sun, tanning. It’s called Carnivals in Venezuela. Like Rio’s Carnival, only people there are too lazy to organize something of the same magnitude of it. So they spend all weekend resting, playing sports, going to the beach. Anything to get their heads out of their problems.
But Danni and Alesia weren’t like that. Not at all. They were spending this weekend planning their “revenge” on someone. And it all took their energies away. It was exhausting. All the thought they were giving to this was more than they’ve done in their entire lives!
Alesia: “Danni, we’ve got a major prob here”
Danni: “Don’t you think I’ve noticed by now?”
Alesia: “Yeah… How are we going to ever get out of this?”
Danni: “D***** I don’t know! If I knew then you think I’d be here, sitting close to you, lying scumbag?” She said fiercely looking into her friend’s eyes.
Alesia: “You don’t get to call me that!”
Danni: “You’re right… Sorry… I’m just too stressed out”
Alesia: “ You better be. We need to get you out of here. Soon”
Danni: “I bet we do… After we’ve done”
Alesia: “Not we. You were the one that killed my boyfriend…”
Alesia: “I’m gonna take some air”
****
Overwhelmingly strong were her feelings. Anger. Despair. Wretchedness. Tears. Fears. Regret. All combined in between the pieces of her broken heart. She had lost all hope for life to be better. What she’s feared her whole life has come to an overpowering reality: her having to pick alone the pieces of her wrecked faith.
She could think of picking those pieces up if she had someone to be expecting her to do so. But she had no one else left. No one expected her to fight back. Everyone expected her to be crying and sobbing all the time. But she didn’t know what to do. Not anymore.
Alesia always knew what to do. But not this time, she’s lost everything she ever wanted: Juan Pablo, her friendship with Danni, the chances of becoming friends with Clark. She even hoped to become friends with Lana, she seemed like a very friendly person. But what interesting person could ever be paying attention to a wrecked car if they can have a brand new one?
The emotional fight that was being held within was raging. This could be seen from certain distance: Reddish eyes, unease face, eternal frown. All signs to know that someone’s not at relieve. Lana saw this when they crossed paths in the middle of the sunset at their building. Concerned, Lana tried to talk to her:
Lana: “Alesia, are you ok?”
Alesia: “Yeah, thanks. I’m perfectly fine.”
Lana: “If this is your idea of being ok… then what’s your idea of being sad?” She said, rhetorically. Alesia took this as if Lana was really concerned, and she was.
Alesia: “Right now, I don’t know anything. That thing of Cogito, ergo sum isn’t really that nice…”
Lana: “The what?”
Alesia: “It’s a latin allocution to say “I think, then I exist”… Well, it’s not really helpful..”
Lana: “Tell me about it” She smiled slightly. “Want to talk about whatever it is?”
Alesia: “you don’t want to know…”
Lana: “Trust me. I’m worried about you. Give me a call when you want to talk about it…” She said with a complicity smile.
Alesia looked puzzled. What can be so interesting about her?
Alesia: “Well, I might ask you something?”
Lana: “Sure thing”
Alesia: “Why do you ever bother to talk to this non-cool girl?”
Lana: “Because…. I used, and sometimes still do, to be just like you” Her expression became now really thoughtful “And I regret every day I let someone pass beside me and not getting any help, even if they offered to do it”
Alesia: “I don’t know what to say, Lana”
Lana: “You don’t have to say anything. Just let me help you whenever you want. Deal?”
Alesia, now smiling through her not yet fallen tears: “Deal.”
Lana: “So, what do you do for fun?”
Alesia: “Painting, swimming and playing tennis and guitar. You?”
Lana: “Pretty much the same. I paint, I play soccer sometimes, and I love to read Russian classics!”
Alesia: “Sounds cool… You’ve got to show me how to get interested in them! Sometimes I find the Russian books annoying”
Lana: “Pinky promise?”
Alesia: “Pinky promise!”
Alesia’s cell rang. It was Danni. “Dammit. I gotta go Lana. See you around!”
Lana: “See you around…” With her eyes fixed in the sunset, she became thoughtful.
‘What’s wrong with her? I wanna help her as much as I can. I see myself reflected on her. And I definitively don’t want to let her become another me. I don’t wish that bad to come to anyone’
Male’s voice: “Hello beautiful. I’ve finally found you…We’re going to have some serious party here, aren’t we?”
The reckoning has just started. Ghost were going to be discovered really soon...

Chapter twenty five- What I really am…
These words were the last ones she heard. She then immediately became sleepy and dizzy. Sleepiness overcame her and everything went black, she was drugged out. Robert held her limp body in his strong arms, trying to find a way to be able to get her outside the building without the guards noticing.
“That damn Danni. I’m so going to get in jail for this. And if not for the kidnapping, for the murder of Lana Lang. What a waste.” Then cupped her face in his big hands “You’re pretty, aren’t you? What’s made my sister hate you so much to want you killed?”
He carried her downstairs, to the parking lots where his convertible Mercedes was parked, then put Lana in the front seat and covered her with a blanket and put her into a position that anyone could think she was just asleep. How mistaken they were if they thought so. The blanket was impregnated with the chemical Robert used to drug her. Chloroform.
Robert then got out of the building as he usually did, saying hello to the guards and thanking them for everything. His red car was then racing at 75 mph towards his house in the Avila, the safe-house where Lana was to be kept while she was kidnapped and afterwards where she was going to be executed. No one knew that house existed, because it was a clandestine one. They were going to be safe in there and then he’d burn the house and no one would know where she was killed. A complete mystery was game.
In the meanwhile, Clark started looking for Lana. He went to her house, only to find a puzzled Nell telling him she thought Lana Elizabeth was with him and started blaming him for everything he’d done.
Nell: “You broke her heart! Her shattered heart! Her hopes, her dreams!! You ruined my niece!” She spat out, her eyes flickering with anger
Clark: “uhhh, I think it’s not the proper time to blame me for all my wrongdoings. We’ll get to that later. I need to find her and tell her something important” Confidence was exuding from his voice and posture.
Nell: “Don’t tell me what to do! Besides, if that’s so important, then why did you wait to tell her 6 months!” Nell’s red face was getting even redder, if that was even possible.
Clark: “Something tells me Lana didn’t tell you I was back about 2 weeks ago and talked to her about all this?” he shifted his position “And I couldn’t have talked to her about this because I’ve just found out, dear Nell”
Nell: “Yeah, right. Be sure to find my niece or I’ll tell the police who the real killer was and who’s kidnapped her. Yes, I know you killed Juan Pablo. Else, why would you be drenched in his blood when you came home that night and then burnt the clothes?” Accusations were told. She didn’t trust Clark
Clark: “I’m sorry. I’ve got to go…”
Nell: “Run, coward, run. Just as your father did when he knew… Never mind. Get the hell out of my house. And for the record, I don’t want you around my Lana” She got inside the house and shut the door in Clark’s nose.
Clark, to himself: “She’s got issues… Now I see why Lana doesn’t like her that much” He chuckled, and then took notice of Nell yelling: “I heard that one, little boy!!! Get out of here before I call the police. She’s missing for God’s sake!!”
Clark then supersped out of there and went to his house. “Mom, have you seen Lana lately?” Concern was taking over him after hearing Nell say that she was missing.
Martha: “No, honey, I’ve not heard from her in about 2 days. What’s the matter?” She said.
Clark: “I’m not sure. I cannot find her. She doesn’t answer her cell, Nell’s frantic and yelling she’s missing, and I’ve got this strange feeling inside. I need to find her”
Martha: “We better call the police, son. She might just be missing. And I might know something…” Suspicion got the air thicker. Clark got really nervous.
Clark: “What do you mean you know something?”
Martha: “I saw her talking to Alesia earlier. Ale was really weird, reddish eyes, cracking voice and Lana was trying to talk to her and then she cheered her up. Your girlfriend is really amazing” She squeaked out.
Clark, with a softer expression: “I know… She’s pretty unbelievable” then he got worried “What does Alesia have to do with this? She’s Danni’s best friend after all and never really talked to Lana before. Might this be a trap to get me back?”
Martha: “I don’t know, they seemed to be starting a friendship. I’ve known Alesia forever, Clark, and her family. I don’t think she’s that kind of person. Danni, on the other hand…” A frown crossed her face and then was gone. “What are you going to do, sweetie?”
Clark: “I’m going to find her” He swooshed away, worrying becoming really obvious in his face.
Martha: “I still hate it when he does that”
******************
Lana woke up to find herself sitting on a steel chair, tied up and found a red cut of an old and dirty t-shirt inside of her mouth, and blindfolded. The smell like pine told her she was in some mountain, but she didn’t know wether or not she was still in Caracas or for how long she was drugged out. She started to get frantic, terrified, aloof from the confusion and in very need of Clark by her side right now.
She tried to yell. She couldn’t. She tried to move. The strings wouldn’t stir. She tried to get out of there. She didn’t even know where to start. Tears begun falling from her face, but the blindfold absorbed them, making the salty water become a darker shade of blue in the old collar man shirt used as a blindfold.
Man’s voice: “You won’t yell. You won’t move. You won’t be able to do anything after I kill you” Lana begun shaking as a leaf, fear overtaking her body, the shirt becoming even bluer in the spot where Lana’s eyes were supposed to be “Oh, don’t you cry. We will enjoy our little time together in here, beautiful” She got sickened out, he wanted her, and then he’d kill her.

Chapter twenty five – What I really am… Part two
Clark came up to Danni’s home. The door was opened, so he came inside. It was a mess, nothing compared to the mansion she used to live in. Sure, it was big, but at the moment really messy. The curtains were ripped off their frame, making some light come in, but also keeping some out, which gave the house a creepy look. The usual paintings remained in their places, but the illumination gave them a eerie glance. As Clark came inside of the house, he could see the cushions of the sofas cut up, with something like knives. He was starting to believe Danni was really losing it. “It’s all your fault, BDA! You broke her when you went to Lana that day at school. Then she killed JP and now she’s behind Lana’s kidnapping…”
Clark called out for Daniellah. No answer. He came to her old bedroom. It was not even a shadow of what it was once. The pink coloured walls were now filled with graffiti’s with Clark’s name in all the shapes you can possibly imagine, they seemed like tattoos in a skin. The bed was just a mattress on the floor, covered in what seems to be an old sheet, in top of it was a single pillow with the teddy bear Clark had given Danni when they started dating. And also everything around the room was messed, it seemed like a bunch of hens had lived there for a month. Clark then went to Danni’s bathroom and to his surprise it was locked up. He then x-rayed the room and she was there, sitting in the shower with a bottle of wine and a six pack.
Clark: “Daniellah, open up!!” He hit the door with his hand open. No response. “Daniellah Johnson! Open the door now, before I call the police” He spat out. He could see her frame wavering.
Danni: “You’ve got nothing to accuse me of” Her voice obviously told him she was drunk
Clark: “You do know that drinking at age 16 in here can make your parents go to jail, do you?”
Danni: “I don’t have to worry about them anymore” She hiccupped and then continued “They’re gone”
Clark, worried: “What do you mean gone? Is that the reason the house’s like this?”
Danni: “You do make a lot of questions, don’t you?” She then stood up and approached the door “They live now in California. They didn’t want to know about me after what I did to JP” Again she hiccupped
“Yes, Clark I told them. They thought, like you did, that I am a monster” She opened the door and stared right into his eyes. “And to prove you right, I’ll do something to her that you’ll never be able to get over, or do something to prevent it from happening” His eyes became glittery with water, but his face remained still, showing a courage he didn’t know he had inside of him.
A long pause came, in which Danni had her hands over Clark’s face, cupping it. “I really did love you. Now GET OUT OF MY HOUSE, CLARK” She slapped him. The door slammed and the silenced tears ran down her face, taking a long sip of the beer. Clark was worried and looked for an address of something useful in that mess, using his super speed and the x-ray vision. He found something, a photograph of a house in the mountains with a direction in the back, and rushed out, leaving Danni alone, for the last time.
Lana was now without the red t-shirt stuck inside of her mouth, but she still had the blindfold on, the kidnapper didn’t want her to identify him. She was now talking to Robert, who had a voice distortion device on, and he seemed to be a real good person, except that he had her kidnapped, drugged her and his voice sounded funny.
Robert: “Well, Lana, since you won’t get out of here, who would you like to be able to talk to before you’re dead?” He said quietly.
Lana, frightened: “To my boyfriend, Clark… I miss him.” Her voice was trembling a lot, telling Robert how scared she was.
Robert: “You got it. Just don’t tell him where you are or who you are with or that you’re kidnapped. He shouldn’t know yet.” He left out a shallow laugh “Just try to act as if you are ok. Here’s your cell, it’s already dialled”
Lana, after grabbing her cell tried to act cool, but she couldn’t do such stuff: “Hi Clark!” She chirped out
Clark: “Lana, where are you? Are you kidnapped? Who is that man sitting with you?” He became frenzied “I’ll save you, Lana, just give me time. Danni’s behind this”
Lana: “Clark, what are you talking about? I’m not kidnapped. I’m in Alesia’s house, you know? The one that is in the mountains nearby mine” She knew she had to bring up in a ‘normal’ kind of conversation the word mountains, but her voice didn’t sell what she was saying.
Clark: “I see… Well, Lana, calm down. I’m going to Alesia’s to find you. See you soon. Love you” Then he hung up, tears streaming down her face.
Lana then talked to Robert. She thanked him for letting her talk to Clark for a moment and hear his voice one last time. She was as sure it was going to be her last conversation with him as she has always been convinced she was going to die young, just as her beloved parents did.
In her mind, death was now knocking in her door, waiting for her to open it. She thought, ‘This is it. The day I’m finally going to be with my parents. And it’s not as exciting as I dreamt it would be” Tears kept streaming down her face, making the blue t-shirt be soaking wet. Robert, being a good-hearted guy, asked her if everything was ok. This made Lana be even more scared, uneven, he wanted her to think he cared, just to kill her afterwards.
Clark, in the in the interim, called Alesia and told her to meet him at Danni’s house in about 10 minutes. Those were the longest seconds he ever lived, ironically wondering if that phone call had gotten Lana executed was killing him, eating him inside. The worries started to show up in his face; his frown made Clark seem to be older, the watery eyes told anyone that he was having a bad time at the moment, the trembling hands were a sign that made people around him become aware of how scared out of his mind he was. Then Alesia appeared out of nowhere, making Clark wonder if she had super speed or something. He laughed quietly at the thought.
Alesia: “What’s going on, Clark?”
Clark: “Lana’s gone missing. My mom told me you were the last one she talked to before she was abducted. She witnessed the whole kidnap thing from the balcony” He spat out, accusingly.
Alesia: “I don’t know what are you talking about. I care about her, she’s my friend, I’d never do anything like that to anyone. You should know that” She replied, with confidence
Clark: “I know. But I hoped this picture I found in Danni’s bedroom would help me” He showed her the picture, and a hint of recognition passed through her features.
Alesia: “I know this place. I’ve been there. It’s Dannis’s friend’s house in the mountains just outside Caracas” She tried to remind something about what Danni’s plans were and she knew Robert had something to do with this. “Clark, why did you go to Daniella’s house today?”
Clark: “Because I’ve been trying to tell myself she wasn’t losing it, but I somehow felt like she had something to do with the whole kidnapping thing” A quick frown crossed his face “But I never believed she would do anything like that until I put a feet in her house”
Alesia: “Tell me about it. She wanted to involve me into this thing, but I don’t want anything to do with crimes. I don’t know anything... I’m sorry” She let out a sigh.
Clark: “Do you know how to go there?” He pointed the picture of the house. “I need somewhere to start looking for Lana”
Alesia: “Yes, you know how to go to Galipan in a Jeep?”
Clark: “Sure thing”
Alesia: “Well, in the Y formed before all the restaurants pop up to you, take a left. Then you take the first right and tell the guards you’re going to see Alicia Gonzales, that’s my grandmother who lives in the same zone in where that house’s located. I’ll call her and tell her to open up to you when you get there. Then you take two first lefts and there you are. The house you’re looking for”
Clark: “Thank you so much, Alesia. You truly are a great friend” He kisses her in the cheek goodbye and walked off, leaving a bewildered Alesia standing in the front of Danni’s house.

thanks for the encouragement, bonita and max... I'm in the middle of writing the update and it'll be up tomorrow, because tomorrow I don't have school...
And i totally agree with max, I don't get why the readers urge the writers to update immediately... For me, this fic's an escape valve of my life in Caracas, but I don't have much time for writing it and I update as much as I've got time to do so... I'd like that sometimes readers would understand that :S

Chapter twenty five – What I really am… Part three
After watching an amazingly beautiful sunset, Robert decided to go out for the night and leave Lana in the cabin, blindfolded, tied up and with the stinky red cloth in the mouth. He was ok with it, because he told himself “If Danni wants her kidnapped and taken care of, then she might as well come up here and not letting me do all the dirty work”. Lana, on the other hand, was terrified by the idea of being stuck in the mountain alone, tied up and blindfolded.
When Robert closed up the house and turned off all the lights, heating devices and air conditioner, the house looked as if no one would ever live in it. But what most eyes didn’t see was the kidnapped Lana inside. Except for Clark’s.
Clark had come up there a while ago, but when he saw the kidnapper getting ready for leaving, he decided not to use his powers and break in because he might blow his cover. He instead climbed up a tree and stayed there, watching Lana’s movement through X-ray vision. An hour or two passed since Clark climbed up there when the man had left.
Clark’s POV
I should calm down and wait until that man gets out of there. As much as I want to free Lana, there’s not going to be good for us if she sees me using my powers on someone, even though he has her kidnapped and who knows what else. But this feeling inside’s incredibly strong, I want to break that man’s throat, no matter if he’s the prince of England or something. He’s just made my last 2 days the worse ever. And he should pay for that, but not that way. Not that way. Let’s wait.
He waited good 15 minutes, while he was struggling with himself, to be sure he wasn’t around, spying that man with his super earing, while watching Lana with his X-ray vision. He didn’t even bother to see who the man was, he just wanted Lana back and safe.
She was tied up with an old rope around her wrists and ankles. Robert had left her be in the old bed they had in that cabin, but it didn’t even have a proper sheet. It was cold outside and Lana was also shivering. The effects of two (almost three now) days without a proper hot-watered bath started to show in her oily face. And despite this, she still looked amazingly beautiful in Clark’s X-ray-vision-eyes.
Clark climbed out of the tree in super speed, went into the house, got Lana back and ran all the way to his house. All of this happened in less than a second. Clark then put her in his own bed, gently ripping away all those ropes and taking the blindfold off her beautiful eyes.
Clark, panicky: “I thought I was never going to see you again”
Lana: “Yeah, me too” Her shaking voice was music to Clark’s ears. “I was afraid I was going to die out there in that kidnapper’s hands without being able to tell you one more time how much I love you”. Clark just came in for a kiss, he had nothing more to say. And he didn’t want nothing else than taste her full lips on his own.
Martha came in, having no idea that Clark had arrived yet. When she saw Lana in her son’s bed, she just squeaked out happily her name and ran to hug her. And for Clark and her, Mrs. Kent’s squeak made them broke of what could be qualified as the kiss of the year.
Martha hugged Lana as if the world was about to end, almost breaking a few ribs of hers. Lana was amazed about how good that woman was and the fact that she was alive and well was still sinking in. After Martha broke the hug, Lana’s watery eyes concerned her.
Martha: “My dear! Are you ok? Look at you, all dirty and stressed”
Lana: “Yes, I’m ok. I’m alive and that’s what matters, isn’t it?”
Clark: “Yeah, it is” He said happily.
Lana: “Maybe I should go home and let Nell know I’m ok. Yet I don’t know how to explain to her the fact that I am alive without telling her about Clark”
Martha: “I’ll take care of it, dear”
Lana: “Thank you so much, Mrs. Kent” She hugged her rapidly and started to walk away.
Clark: “Mind if I come with you?”
Lana: “Nah, I was going to ask you if you could do that. I’m still scared to walk alone in the building”
Clark: “I bet you are, my dear” He kissed her rapidly on the cheek. “I’ll be right back, mom”
Martha: “Take your time. After all, this old lady interrupted yours” She winked and went to the kitchen to keep working on the chicken.
They walked out of the Kent flat hand by hand, Lana still wearing the clothes she had wore for the last 3 days: vintage jeans, an open button up dark coloured shirt and underneath it, an old-red tank top. Her hair was all scrambled and messy, while the bags underneath her eyes made her look as a 70 year old woman who’s had a lot on her plate. Clark was clean-shaved, his humid hair was as always curly and not in its place and the clothes he was wearing were total black because it would help him hide in the dark outside the house where Lana was hidden.
After five minutes of silent walking around the gardens, Lana became really uneasy, which was really weird of her.
Clark: “Lana, you ok?”
Lana: “Uhh, yeah. Just a bit shaky after everything that happened the last few days” The fear stain in her voice was noticeable.
Clark: “I can’t even imagine what you’ve been thru these days” Then, rubbing his thumb against the back of her hand and after a few seconds “I’ve realized…”
Lana: “What have you realized?” she asked, interestingly
Clark: “Never mind. I’ll tell you later… But now there’s only one thing I can think of” Then he scoped her in his strong arms and kissed her as if nothing ever mattered anymore.
Lana: “Thank you very much, I missed you too” She gave him a sincere smile “But that still doesn’t cover how much I have” She kissed him heavily, while he responded happily.
After a while, hey sat down in the outside of the tennis court, holding hands, glad to be together. The darkness was engulfing, but it didn’t matter to them; it gave them more privacy.
Clark: “Lana, don’t you think you should go to Nell’s and tell her you’re back?”
Lana: “Maybe… But I want to stay here with you” She mischievously said
Clark: “Believe me, I want that too” A spark lit his eyes, a real one “uhh, Lana, walk away from me immediately!”
Lana: “What’s going on, Clark”
Clark: “I’ll have a real burst of heat vision and I don’t want to burn you. Move!”
Lana walked away as fast as possible while Clark was holding it inside. When he felt that Lana was far away enough, he let it out, pointing towards the court’s direction. He then sped away fast enough so it didn’t burn anything. But then he felt someone besides Lana was watching.
Her comment was: “So that’s why the Kents moved from my little Smallville…He’s that freak who fell of the sky and killed my sister”
