I play, but I've never heard of PRS... is that Paul Reed? Check out your local GuitarCenter, I'm sure they have one or even if they don't you can ask them to order one for you. Either way I'd go to the store and try out a bunch of different brands if I were you, all electrics are so different. Also, what's your budget?

One of my problems is that I have two kids and not that many music stores around me and not a lot of time to go to places and try things out. I do a lot of my shopping online now and try to read up on reviews and stuff.
Yeah PRS is Paul Reed Smith Guitars. I see too many Gibson and Fender's out there and I want to try something different.
My budget is in the 500-700 range. I just want a good all around guitar for all types of music.

Well most Gibsons costs way more than $700, and I read a couple of articles on PRS and everyone compares them to Gibsons, so I imagine the price tag must be similiar. For 500-700 I'd recommend the G400 by Epiphone - what I got - it's a little heave on the neck and gets out of tune a lot, but it has a great fretboard and really nice pickups (i think i read somewhere that they bought pickups from Gibson and put them on the G400s). I'll do some more digging and get back to you.

I'm here. ;)
Yeah, I even made a thread like this a year ago. It kind of didn't last too long though.
I play a Schecter Diamond Series, been playing for around two years or something. . .
Anyway, mine was bought at this small shop, but it was retailed at about $650. The guy was selling it at $550 however, as he had had it for awhile.
It's a really awesome looking guitar, and it sounds great IMO. Schecter is known well enough so most music stores would have it, however you won't see it everywhere.
Guitar World (I believe) actually had an article on Schecter guitars this month.

The one I'm looking at is the Paul Reed Smith SE Standard Electric Guitar (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/PRS-Guitars-SE-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=519371) in Vintage Mahogany. It's selling at $499.99 at musiciansfriend. I got in on this deal for an Epiphone Zakk Wylde from this one site and never got my order. I lost $190 bucks. The original price of the guitar was 799.99 I think and the deal was too good to be true and I got ripped off.

Another great brand is Ibanez. Not sure if you'd be interested, but I was looking around musicisansfriend earlier, and found this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-GRX20-Electric-Guitar?sku=519417).
This (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-ISJ20-Jumpstart-Pack?sku=512497) is one of MF's many starter packs which comes with the guitar, stand, and some things to plug it up with.
Pack includes: GAX guitar in black night, GTP10 10W amp, guitar strap, electronic tuner, padded gig bag, wooden guitar stand, picks, cable, and instructional DVD.
Here (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-Artcore-AFS75T-Electric-Guitar?sku=519452) is a classier looking electric. This style is getting to be quite popular with all the catalogs I've seen.
I myself am wanting to get an acoustic or an acoustic/electric. I'm thinking something like this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-V70CETBS-AcousticElectric-Guitar?sku=512211).
Okay, I seriously need to close this window. I want to buy up the store.

I sorta play the bass. I haven't had lessons in years. I used to play in my high school jazz band and was getting pretty good before I gave it up (unintentionally by having nowhere to play.) The only guitar I play nowadays is the guitar controller for Guitar Hero. :P

Hi,
I've only just started playing guitar and I have a classical one at the moment. I'd love to graduate to electric once I get good enough. Bring on the mighty rock guitar solos!

I know what you mean man! My friend keeps nagging me about just dropping the money on a Fender Strat cuz it's a great all around guitar that will last a long time and it really suits the kind of music I wanna play. There are some STRATS that are fairly cheap but not made in the USA. I've heard that the quality of ones made outside of the US can be bad. I dunno I'm so confused. I was thinking about that Epi SG before but I know that if I get that that I would want something better right away ya know.

Definitely.
I love Fender as much as the next person (I play my dad's Strat all the time), but my absolute favorite is Gibson. I found one Les Paul that was completely platinum. The whole dang thing was platinum.
My friend had to practically drag me away from the window.

I have an electric Barracuda Les Paul knock-off. Been playing since Canada Day '04. Next month I'll be getting the Ibanez AEL2012.
Just bought a new Garrison acoustic yesterday. I had an Ibanez that sounded like garbage and I never played. I love the Garrison so far. Here's to hoping I can learn to play.

I’ve been playing the guitar since I was five years old. I have a wealth of knowledge on the subject. Now if I could only put it to good use…

i played in a band for 7 years...had to give it up cause f*cked up my ears. i had a modified 1979 Strat with EMG pickups. Had a bad ass sound to it but i sold it afterwards cause i was broke...LOL.
one of my buddies that i used to play with still has gear so i still hack around when i go over there. he has an old Ibanez and a beat up Les Paul.
as for Japaneese Strats and the like (outside of USA), they're often a bit flimsy and don't have the depth that American strats do, but they're still pretty good guitars. if you're just starting out on electric a copy like an Epiphone which someone mentioned is a good option...later on down the line after you can really wail you can upgrade.

I have an Ibanez acoustics, if you want good guitars with decent prices, check out musicfriend.com, they have many selections. Guitarcenter, and/or SamAsh, unfortunately have prices that are higher. In truth, fi you want nice electrics, don't get Yamaha's. Your budget is good for Epiphones/Gibsons.

Acoustics > Electric, if you want to be good with guitar, start with acoustics since it is the basis, and it is harder than electric. Anyone disagree with me? Also! Another thing is, acoustics guitar cost less, no need for amps, etc.
