I think we all should contact A&E to tell them that half the creators of Superman was a Canadian. just a thought.

here is a copy of a leeter I emailed A&E.

I just finished watching your Superman special and noticed you made a major error in your facts of where the creators of Superman were from. In your show you said that "Superman was a dream by two boys from Cleveland."

Not true.

Joe Shuster was born on July 10th, 1914 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 4 months later Jerry Siegel was born in Cleveland, Ohio as Jerome Siegel on October 17th, 1914.

I would have expected that A&E would have done a more thourough search as to where the creators were born.

I as a Canadian was totally upset that you did'nt mention that Joe Shuster was a Canadian or Canada in general

I would hope that in future airings of this special would be corrected out of proffessional journalism instead of fiction.

yours truly,

Rob Catlin

I've got a copy of the Superman Bio/Doco on DVD and what Kevin Spacey narrates is as follows:

"Superman was actually conceived in the imaginations of 2 teenage boys from Cleveland, Ohio. Jerry Siegle and Joe Shuster: both the sons of Jewish Immigrants. When they met at Glenville High School in 1931..."

In fairness to the producers of the show, they never actually specified where they were born, just where they were living at the time they met and began their friendship and creative collaborations.

As a Canadian (Winnipeg, Manitoba), I agree with you North. Would it have really killed them to quickly mention that Superman was born to one American and one Canadian parent? The fact that America's greatest hero was part Canuck is a pretty big oversight.

I caught that Bio last night on A&E. It was awesome! :)

By the term "from Cleveland," it simply meant that the 2 teenage boys were both living in Cleveland when they met.
It didn't mention where EITHER of them were born. ;)

Does it honestly matter?

What if Shuster ddidn't claim to be from Canada?

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts but I don't claim to be from there. I'm from Montgomery, Alabama.
