Season 6 Episode 9: “Switched”

Lionel: “He says he’s in the process of creating a Singularity.”
Clark: “A black hole?”
Lana: “It’s not a black hole. It’s the origin of a black hole.
Chloe: “How would he know how to do this?”
Clark: “Maybe it isn’t Lex who knows how to do this?”
**********
They both laugh at Jimmy’s last comment. They get up to leave. As they are leaving we see that there is someone at a table behind them reading a newspaper. This person is a man, tall and blonde with striking blue eyes. As Jimmy and Chloe get up to leave the diner, this person gets up, pays his bill and follows them out the door.

Scientist: “What the hell is that?”
Lex doesn’t look at him as he answers. He just smiles.
Lex: “That, my friend, is the door to a new world.”
**********
Jor-El: “You must prevent the nuclear device from opening the other end of the Zone. Once you have done this, if you detonate the device from inside the Zone, you will seal up the first entrance and Luthor will not be able to access his Zone again. But you must make your escape before the heat of the blast reaches the entrance. If you do not do this you will be a prisoner…Forever. I will not be able to help you.”

Chloe: “I’ll be perfectly honest with you. I’ve had someone else on my mind an awful lot. And that someone else isn’t Clark.”
After she says this, Chloe and Jimmy are drawn together in a long, tender kiss.

Lana: “Clark, there’s something I haven’t told you. Something that happened before the second meteor shower.”
**********
Clark: “Tell me the truth. Do you want out?”
There is a moment of silence before she answers.
Lana: “Never.”

The scene is in the LuthorCorp complex. As Lex and the scientists are waiting, there is an explosion through the wall behind them as if something has shot its way through. We see a blur of blue and red streak past them and enter the Zone.
Lex: “What was that? What they hell just happened?”
As he finishes his sentence, the complex is filled with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.

OPENING
The scene takes place inside the Phantom Zone. There is no sense of time and distance. The zone is pulsating from within and changing different colors in every direction.
Luthor’s missile with the attached nuclear warhead is streaking through the Zone. Behind it but catching up quickly is Clark Kent. The view is from the top of Clark’s head as we see him closing in on the fire coming out from the engine of the missile. He reaches the top of the missile. At this point he knows he must turn the missile around and detonate it just before he goes back through his original entrance. But as he looks up he sees something streaking towards him from the direction he is headed. It closes in on him and then it passes him, flying in the opposite direction. It is another missile flying toward the opening where Clark had entered. On top of the missile is another…Clark Kent. The Alternate Universe (AU) Clark Kent is clothed in a blue jacket and red shirt. Momentarily, both of them lock eyes with one another and then they both realize what is happening.
Clark looks in the direction to which his missile is heading and he sees a light that he is closing in on quickly. The other entrance to the Alternate Universe, the entrance which Clark was supposed to prevent from opening has already been opened. What is happening in Clark’s universe is also happening in the Alternate Universe. It is no longer a question of turning the missile around. Clark must prevent the missile from flying through the opening to the Alternate Universe. He must detonate the missile close enough to the entrance so that the heat from the blast seals the entrance to the Alternate Universe from inside the Phantom Zone. But at the same time he must escape before the entrance his sealed. He doesn’t have time to go back to his universe. He must escape into the Alternate Universe.
Clark leaves the top of the missile and turns to face the missile as it is flying towards him. In other words, Clark is flying backwards. He is closing in on the light with the missile just a few feet from his face. Heat vision shoots out of his eyes and streaks towards the top of the missile. It begins to glow a vibrant red as it heats up. The warhead explodes. In slow motion we see the waves of the blast moving towards Clark. He turns himself around to face the light. Closer and closer he moves to the light. Closer and closer the waves of the blast moves towards him until the waves are almost upon him.
The opening scene ends with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.

OPENING CREDITS

Act 1: Scene 1
The scene takes place in the laboratory of the LuthorCorp complex in Smallville. The view is filled with smoke. We can’t see anything but we hear people in distress. We hear coughing and groaning. Gradually the smoke dissipates and we see people on the floor of the laboratory. They are helping each other. Sparks are coming out of equipment which has shorted out. Debris is scattered on the floor. Lex is on the floor. He is just opening his eyes. His standard black coat is coated with a layer of dust. He picks himself up and looks around. He looks into the direction of where the Zone was. It is no longer there.
Lex: “Can anyone tell me what happened?”
Scientist: “The warhead must have exploded inside the zone before it reached the other end. We’re lucky we’re alive.”
The view changes to Clark lying on the floor of the laboratory. He is just opening his eyes. Everything is exactly the same as the place he has just left. Suddenly standing above him is Lex looking down on him. Moving into the picture standing next to Lex is…Lana.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing here?

Act 1: Scene 2
The scene takes place in Chloe’s dormitory room at Metropolis University. There is a knock on the door and Lois enters the room.
Chloe: “Hi.”
Lois: “Hi. Hey cousin, so what’s it like having the room to yourself since Lana moved out?”
Chloe: “Well it wasn’t like she was here a lot in the first place. I’m always at the Daily Planet and she’s off to wherever. What’s up?”
Lois: “There’s someone I’d like you to meet. I was hoping you and Jimmy could double with us tonight.”
Chloe: “Wait a minute. What about…?”
Lois: “Oh my God! I forgot about him!”
Chloe: “Wow. This must be someone pretty special to make you forget.”
Lois is in a dreamy eyed state.
Lois: “He is.”
She now has a more serious expression.
Lois: “I guess I should tell him. Huh?”
Chloe has a very concerned expression on her face.
Chloe: “Yeah! With all he’s been through you better let him down easy, Lois.”

Act 1: Scene 3
The scene is back at the LuthorCorp complex. Clark is standing up. He is flanked by two security guards. He is having difficulty understanding what is happening, especially seeing Lana with Lex.
Lex: “How did you get here?”
Clark realizes he has to play along with the situation until he has a better understanding of what is going on.
Clark: “I don’t know how I got here. I was in my loft and then I was here.”
Lex advances towards him until he is just inches from his face.
Lex: “I think you’re lying.”
Lana: “Lex, what are you trying to prove?”
Lex: “I’m trying to prove what I always told you, Lana. That Clark Kent is different.”
He points to the hole in the wall that the alternate universe Clark crashed through.
Lex: “See that hole. I think it was made by Clark Kent. I think Clark Kent crashed through that wall, flew into the Zone, detonated the warhead and got out just in time before the warhead exploded and sealed the Zone.”
Lana goes up to Lex and puts her hand on his arm.
Lana: “Lex, I’ve known Clark long enough to know that he’s not some kind of super being.”
Lex: “We’ll see.”
Lex says to his assistant.
Lex: “Get the meteor rocks.”

Act 1: Scene 4
The scene takes place outside of the Metropolis University dormitories. Chloe and Jimmy are walking together.
Chloe: “Would it be okay with you if we go out with Lois and her new interest tonight?”
Jimmy: “New interest. Huh? Sure.”
The conversation continues and we see them walking along. Trailing behind them on the other side of the road is the tall, blonde stranger.

Act 1: Scene 5
The scene is back at LuthorCorp laboratory. An assistant is carrying a lead box to Lex. Clark, who is still flanked by the two security guards, appears anxious over what is about to happen. Lana is standing by. She is unsure as to why Lex is doing this. The assistant gives Lex the box and Lex brings it up to Clark.
Lex: “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
Lex opens up the box and brings it up to Clark’s face. Clark braces himself for the expected pain. But nothing happens. The meteor rocks do not have their usual glow. Clark is just as surprised as Lex. After a few moments Lana comes between them.
Lana: “Lex, I don’t know what you were expecting to see but the only thing you’ve proven is that Clark Kent is just like everyone else.”
A scientist comes up to Lex.
Scientist: “Everything is ruined. The blast fused all of the circuits.”
Lex: “What about the linkages to the other power plants.”
Scientist: “The blast severed all of the linkages. We have a total system failure.”
Lex: “How long until we can become operational again.”
Scientist: “I don’t know if we can become operational again.”
Lana: “Congratulations Lex. Are you ready to tell the scientific world that there’s an alternate universe in Clark’s barn.”
Lana walks away with a disgusted look expression on face.
Lex looks back at Clark and addresses the security guards.
Lex: “Get him out of here.”

Act 1: Scene 6
The scene takes place outside of the LuthorCorp complex. The security guards have just escorted Clark outside of the gate. Clark looks around to see that no one is watching. He then begins to run. But he cannot achieve anything faster than a normal pace. The gate opens and a Jeep come out. It is Lana. She pulls up along side Clark and rolls down her window.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing?”
Clark is unsure as to how to answer.
Clark: “I’m just a little bit disoriented.”
Lana: “Get in. I’ll give you a ride home.”
Clark gets in on the passenger side. The Jeep proceeds down the road.
Lana: “Clark, how did you really get in there?”
Clark: ‘I told you. I was in my barn then I found myself in there.”
Lana is now angry.
Lana: “Don’t you think I’ve known you long enough to know when you’re lying.”
Clark is silent.
Clark: “Well let me ask you something. What are you doing with Lex?”
Lana looks surprised that Clark would even ask such a question.
Lana: “What kind of a stupid question is that? Lex and I are together. I thought you had finally accepted that.”
Clark is still having a difficult time understanding what is going on.
Clark: “Don’t you remember anything of what happened on top of LuthorCorp tower during the blackout?”
Lana: “What are you talking about? How do you know I was on top of LuthorCorp tower? I don’t even know what happened. I was unconscious and then I woke up. It was the same with Lex. What happened on the tower?”
Clark doesn’t say anything. He just looks straight ahead. Lana slams the brakes on the car.
Lana: “Get out! Get out and walk! It’s still the same old Clark Kent. It’s still the same secrets and lies.”
End of Act 1

Act 2: Scene 1
The scene takes place in the Kent barn. Clark is walking into the barn and up the loft. Chloe and Martha are waiting for him.
Clark: “Am I glad to see you guys?”
Chloe: “What happened? Where have you been?”
Clark: “I’ve been in the LuthorCorp complex.”
Martha: “Are you alright? You look tired.”
Clark: “Well, I had to walk a couple of miles to get home.”
Chloe: “Walk? Why?”
Clark: “I don’t have any powers in this…universe.”
Both women look at each other in confusion.
Martha: “This…universe?”
Clark: “This is going to be hard to explain. I’m Clark but I’m not your Clark. I’m from an alternate universe that exists in the same time and space as this one but in a different dimension.”
Martha: “You watch too much Star Trek.”
Clark: “Mom, you have to believe me. I don’t have any powers because the physical laws that govern the universes are different. What functions in one universe will not function in another.”
Chloe: “So you’re Clark from a different universe where everything is the same as this one.”
Clark: “The same but at the same time, different.”
Chloe: “Different? How?”
Clark: “Well for one thing, Lana isn’t with Lex. She’s with me.”
Martha: “Clark, you have to stop this. I thought we were past this obsession of yours.”
Clark: “I’m telling you the truth.”
For a moment the three of them are standing silent. Then Clark speaks up.
Clark: “It’s possible that whatever is happening here is also happening back home.”
Both Chloe and Martha are looking at Clark with a perplexed expression.
Clark: “He must be going through the same thing. He must be trying to find a way to get back. The only way to get back is through the Phantom Zone. And there’s only one way to get to another Phantom Zone.”
Both Chloe and Martha are still looking at him strangely.
Clark: “The Fortress!”
Clark runs to his desks and begins to go through the drawers. He is in a panic.
Clark: “The disk! The disk! It’s gone!”
Chloe: “You’re really serious, aren’t you?”
Clark: “Yes, I’m serious. The Phantom Zone is not only a prison. It’s a tunnel between dimensions. I have to go back in and the only way to do that is at the Fortress. But I can’t get to the Fortress unless I teleport from the Kawatche caves. And I can’t teleport unless I have the disc. In my universe, I left the disc in my desk. But, reality is different here. The disc is gone.”
We now hear a voice of someone entering the barn.
Lois: “Hello! Anybody home?”
Chloe turns to Clark.
Chloe: “That’s not the only thing that’s different.

Act 2: Scene 2
The scene takes place at Clark’s loft. Lois is walking up the steps. Both Chloe and Martha have uncomfortable smiles on their faces.
Martha: “Well. We’ll just leave you two alone. Come on, Chloe.”
Martha and Chloe leave. Clark and Lois are standing there looking at one another. Finally Lois breaks the ice and kisses Clark on the cheek. Clark is just standing still, uncertain as to what is going on.
Lois: “Hi. There’s something I have to say. I think you might want to sit down.”
Clark says slowly.
Clark: “I think I’d rather stay standing.”
Lois begins to speak at a very fast pace. While she is speaking she is walking around the stationary Clark.
Lois: “Look Smallville. I mean Clark. I know you hate me calling you Smallville. I have to be honest with you. I know you’ve had a really rough time and you and I have been together. And being with you has been really nice. You’re a really great guy. Not the man of my dreams. But really great. But I’ve met the man of my dreams. He’s very different than you. His world is the world of art, literature and sophistication. Whereas your world is the world of corn, cows and flannel. Not that it’s bad. Because it isn’t. But it just isn’t me. And I’m sure you want me to be happy the same way I want you to be happy. So I’m just telling you that I can’t see you anymore. I don’t want to hurt you but I’m sure you understand. Good. I see you understand. Besides we’ll always be friends. Good. Okay. I have to go now because he’s picking me up in an hour. See you around, Smallville.”
Lois stops and skips down the steps of the loft and out of the barn.
Clark is still standing there. He hasn’t moved. He says to himself.
Clark: “What just happened?”

Act 2: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Luthor mansion. Lana is in the main room by the fireplace. Clark walks in the room.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing here?”
Clark: “Lana, I need your help.”
Lana: “Clark, you shouldn’t be here.”
Clark: “Lana, please let me speak.”
They are standing very close to one another.
Clark: “Lana. I’m looking for a disc. It’s silver and octagonal shaped. It has some inscriptions on it.”
Lana: “A disc? What do you need a disc for?”
Clark: “Lana, I need it to get…home.”
Lana has a distrusting look on her face.
Clark: “Lana, Lex is right. There is an alternate universe. I was in the Zone. But I’m from the other universe. I have to get back. To do that, I need the disc.”
Lana backs up from him.
Lana: “Clark, you need help. There is no such thing as an alternate universe.”
Clark: “Lana, you’ve got to believe me. In the other universe, you’re not with Lex. You and I are together.”
Lana is now angry.
Lana: “Clark! Stop it! Just stop it! I thought we were past this. I think you’d better leave.”
Clark turns and begins walking towards the door. Then he stops. A thought has occurred to him and he turns back to Lana.
Clark: “Do you still have the nightmares?”
Lana looks up in shock.
Lana: “What did you say?”
Clark: “Do you still have nightmares about Genevieve Teague?”
Lana: “How do you know about that?”
Clark: “The Lana in my universe trusted me enough to tell me.”
He turns and walks out the door. Lana is left standing by the fireplace.

Act 2: Scene 4
The scene takes place outside the LuthorCorp mansion. Just as Clark’s truck is leaving the mansion, Lex’s sport’s car is arriving. Lex sees Clark’s truck go on the highway.
Lex: “Damn it.”
He turns his cars around and follows Clark down the highway.
End of Act 2

Act 3: Scene 1
The scene takes place outside a restaurant. Chloe and Jimmy are leaving along with Edmund and Lois. Across the street from the restaurant is a car. Seated in the car is the stranger who has been following Jimmy and Chloe. As the two couples begin to walk down the street towards Edmund’s SUV, Chloe senses that they are being followed. She briefly looks behind and sees the stranger. She whispers to Jimmy.
Chloe: “Jimmy, don’t look. But there’s someone behind us who’s been following us.”
Jimmy: “Are you sure?”
Chloe: “Yes. I thought my mind was playing tricks with me but I keep seeing this tall, blonde man wherever you and I go. He’s right across from the restaurant.”
The two couples get in Edmunds SUV. Chloe and Jimmy are in the back seat. As Edmund’s vehicle pulls onto the road, the stranger’s vehicle begins to follow them.
Chloe: “Edmund, we’re being followed.”
Edmund: “We’re being followed. Who would want to follow us?”
Chloe: “Actually, it’s not us. It’s me and Jimmy. Lex Luthor has sworn revenge for the article Jimmy and I wrote about him in the Daily Planet.”
Edmund: “That was some story. It’s too bad the case was dismissed. It figures that Luthor would want some payback for that. Is that the car behind us?”
Chloe looks back and sees the vehicle.
Chloe: “That’s the one.”
Edmund: “Let’s see what we can do about this.”
Edmund’s vehicle is stopped at a traffic light at an intersection. He is watching the cars go across the intersection. The car following is stopped behind him. Suddenly Edmund hits the gas and brings his car into the intersection into the oncoming traffic. He makes a sharp left, barely missing a car and speeds down the road. Horns are blasting at him. The car following tries to do the same. It goes into the intersection and makes a left but another car collides with it. Edmund’s vehicle is far ahead of the scene of the accident and in the clear. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are overjoyed at what he has done.
Edmund: “Well that takes care of that. Where shall we go now?”
Lois takes his hand in hers.
Lois: “My hero.”
Both Chloe and Jimmy say at the same time.
Chloe & Jimmy: “Our hero.”

Act 3: Scene 2
The scene takes place in Clark’s barn. He is walking into the barn. He is about to go up the steps to his loft when he hears Lex’s voice behind him.
Lex: “You just never learn. Do you, Clark?”
Before Clark can turn around to the sound of the voice he is punched in the face by Lex and falls to the ground.
Lex: “I don’t want you seeing, Lana.”
Before he finishes his sentence he has kicked Clark in the head. Clark is on the ground and Lex is now using all of the martial arts skills that he has learned.
Lex: “You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to do this?”

Act 3: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Talon. The place is closed for the night. But Chloe, Jimmy and Edmund are seated at a table. Lois is bringing a tray with various flavored coffees.
Edmund: “I guess living in an apartment above a coffee shop has certain advantages.”
Lois smiles at him as she hands him his coffee. She sits next to him.
Jimmy: “This has been quite a night. We should do this again.”
Edmund stands up from the table and takes a hand gun out from his suit.
Edmund: “I’m afraid that’s not going to be possible.”

Act 3: Scene 4
The scene takes place in the Kent barn. Clark is lying on the ground, severely beaten. Lex is standing above him.
Lex: “This is for all of those times that you’ve gotten in my way.”
Another kick is sent to Clark’s body.
Lex: “This is because Lana still loves you.”
Another kick is sent towards Clark.
Clark is now struggling to stay on his knees.
Lex: “Did I ever tell you that it was I who sent Simone to you. I sent Simone and Lana was still willing to forgive you.”
Another kick to Clark’s head. His nose is broken.
Lex: “You don’t know how gratifying this is. This is almost better than sex.”
Another kick to Clark’s chest. We hear the crack of a rib breaking. Clark is now spitting up blood.
Lex: “I take that back. This is better than sex.”
He is about to let go another kick onto Clark’s head when we hear a smack. Lex’s eyes roll up into his head and he falls to the ground. Coming into the picture is Lana. She is holding a 2 by 4 piece of wood.
Lana: “That’s for sending Simone.”
She goes to Clark’s side. She is kneeling beside him. Clark is barely able to speak.
Clark: “Why…did…you…come…here?”
Lana pulls out the octagonal disc from her pocket.
Lana: “I came to give you this.”
She helps Clark to his feet.
Lana: “Clark, you need to go to a hospital.”
Clark: “No. Take me to the caves.”

Act 3: Scene 5
The scene takes place at the Talon. Edmund is standing up holding the gun. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are seated.
Lois: “Edmund, I don’t understand.”
Chloe: “He used you to get to us.”
Lois looks at Edmund. Her eyes are pleading.
Edmund: “Don’t think I didn’t enjoy your company, Lois. You’re a wonderful lady. I wish we could have gotten to know each other better. But I’m sorry. It’s time for this date to end.”
He points his gun at Chloe when suddenly we hear a muffled shot. The view is of Edmund. There is a bullet hole is the center of his head and he falls to floor. Out of the rear of the Talon comes the tall, blonde stranger. He puts his gun back into his coat and he pulls out a cell phone. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are sitting in stunned silence. The stranger is talking on his phone.
Stranger: “Hello, Mr. Luthor. They came back right where you said they would. Yes. He’s been taken care of. I need a cleanup and disposal crew.”
He hangs up the phone and speaks to Chloe and Jimmy.
Stranger: “After that stunt at the traffic light I didn’t know if I would make it here in time. Lionel Luthor thought you might need some protection.”
He addresses Lois.
Stranger: “I’m sorry miss. Your friend is Edmund Palladin. He’s a hired killer. He usually works in Europe.”
Chloe: “Who hired him?”
Stranger: “A man named Albert Mensa. Otherwise known as The Raptor. He’s the most dangerous man in the world.”
Chloe: “If he’s the most dangerous man in the world, why has no one ever heard of him?”
Stranger: “He just might be the person behind the terrorism in Saudi Arabia, the revolt in Russia and piracy in the South Pacific. Yet, no one knows where he is or even what he looks like. If you were in charge of your government would you want your populace to know that you had no idea of how to get the most dangerous man in the world?”
Chloe remembers the photograph she took of the man getting into Lex Luthor’s car outside of the Metropolis Courthouse.
Chloe: “I think I know what he looks like.”
End of Act 3

Act 4: Scene 1
The scene takes place in Lana’s Jeep. They are driving to the caves. They are sitting in silence.
Lana: “You don’t know how much I hated you.”
Clark doesn’t say anything. He just turns towards Lana.
Lana: “I hated you but more than that I hated what you made me become.”
Clark doesn’t know what to say.
Lana: “All the time thinking of you. Thinking of us. As painful as it was I couldn’t stop myself. I had to be near you or have something that was yours. I came to your loft and I went through your things when you weren’t home. I just wanted something of yours. Something that I could hold. I saw that disc. It was so unusual. But it was ‘you’. I took it. What’s it for?
Clark: “You’ll see once we get to the caves.”
Lana: “Do you know what it’s like?”
Clark turns to her. He does not understand what she is asking.
Lana: “Do you know what it’s like to love someone so much that when they leave you the world, as you know it, ends?”
Clark looks back towards the road.
Clark: “Yes. I know what it’s like.”

Act 4: Scene 2
The scene takes place at the Kawatche caves. Clark and Lana are entering the transport chamber.
Lana: “I don’t remember this place being here. How did you find it?”
Clark: “It was left her for me?”
Lana: “For you?”
Clark painfully smiles to himself.
Clark: “Take my world for it. You’ve been through this before.”
Clark takes the disc and slips it into the portal slot. The chamber lights up with a blinding, golden glow. Lana is stunned by what she is experiencing.
Clark: “Give me your hand.”
Lana looks at him not quite trusting him.
Clark: “Please.”
She places her hand in his and he pulls her to him. We see that she rests her head against him, feeling the comfort of being close to him. A blast of light comes from the portal and the couple is swept into the Fortress. Lana’s eyes are wide open in amazement.
Clark: “This is the Fortress of Solitude. It is a replica of the planet I came here from, the planet Krypton. A planet that was destroyed.”
Lana: “You’re an alien.”
Clark nods his head.
Clark: “Think Lana. Think back to the tornado. Think back to warehouse explosion. Think back to the bus accident you almost had.”
Lana: “That was you?”
Clark: “No. That was your Clark in this universe. I have to get back to my Lana in my universe.”
A voice emanate from the Fortress.
Jor-El: “Kal-El I have been waiting for you.”
Lana is frightened at hearing the voice. She is even more frightened at hearing the name, ‘Kal-El.”
Lana: “You’re Kal-El.”
Clark: “Make Clark explain it to you when he gets back. It’s not as bad as you think.”
From the center console a purple crystal rises. Clark grabs the crystal and places it in a slot in the console. In the center for the Fortress, the Zone opens up. It is pulsating back and forth. Clark begins to walk toward the Zone. Then stops and turns back to Lana.
Clark: “It doesn’t have to be the way it is now.”
Lana doesn’t understand.
Clark: “If your Clark knew what I know he would tell you that when he told you that he didn’t love you it was the worst mistake of his life. He would tell you that the first time he saw you and Lex together a part of him died that day. He would tell you that you are always in his thoughts – day and night – every minute of every day. He would tell that if the thought of you not being in his life ever comes into his head; he has to push it out because he feels like he’s done something terrible. And he would tell you that when you touch him you make him feel something in such a way that he’s ashamed of himself because he doesn’t know how to describe it. He would tell you that it has always been, is and always will be you, Lana.”
He turns back to go to the Zone. Lana stops him.
Lana: “Your Lana is a lucky girl.”
Clark shakes his head.
Clark: “No. I’m the fortunate one. I’ve been given a second chance.”
He smiles at her and then leaves her. He moves towards the Zone and steps inside.

Act 4: Scene 3
The scene takes place inside the Phantom Zone. Clark’s powers are gradually being restored. He begins to fly through the Zone. He begins to pick up speed. As he is flying we see that the cuts and bruises from his beating are healing and then disappear. As he is flying through the zone he sees an image coming towards him. It is the Alternate Universe (AU) Clark. They both stop and look at one another.
Clark & AU Clark: “Whoa!”
AU Clark: “You’ve got quite a girlfriend there, Clark?”
Clark: “Yes, I do. You can have the same thing to if you’re willing to open up.”
AU Clark: “What do you mean?”
Clark: “Lana’s back at the Fortress. She’s waiting for you.”
AU Clark: “You told her everything?”
Clark: “No. That’s for you to do.”
AU Clark: “What about Lois?”
Clark: “Isn’t that a no brainer?”
AU Clark nods his head and begins to laugh.
Clark: “Hey, can I ask you something?”
AU Clark: “Sure.”
Clark: “With all the flying I’ve been doing and going around the world, I’ve been thinking that maybe I need a disguise or something. Have you thought about that?”
AU Clark: “Yeah. That’s why I started using these.”
AU Clark pulls a pair of eyeglasses out of his pocket.
Clark: “Eyeglasses. You wear eyeglasses when you fly?”
AU Clark: “No I wear the glasses when I’m not flying. When I’m trying to act normal. You’d be surprised how these things fool people.”
Clark: “I’ll have to think about it. I feel like I should shake your hand.”
AU Clark: “Yeah but won’t that bring about some kind of matter anti-matter reaction and cause the end of all existence?”
Clark: “You watch too much Star Trek.”
They both laugh and then they turn to leave but AU Clark say’s one last thing.
AU Clark: “Clark, it’s great to know that I’m not alone.”
Clark: “Clark, you’ve never been alone. Lana has always been there.”
He nods his head and they both fly off.

Act 4: Scene 4
The scene takes place in the Fortress of Solitude. Lana is waiting by center console. She is anxious. The Phantom Zone is pulsating back and forth. Clark flies out of the Zone and lands. He and Lana are looking at one another.
Lana: “Is it you?”
Clark smiles and nods his head.
Clark: “I’ve come back to you.”
Lana runs to him and jumps in his arms. She is kissing him all over his face.
Lana: “Never let you go. Never.”
Clark is now carrying her as he is walking towards the portal.
Clark: “So how was the other guy?”
Lana: “Not as trusting as you. I think the other Lana has gone down a different path.”
Clark: “I think he’ll find that some things have changed when he gets back.”
They are about to teleport when Lana stops him.
Lana: “Clark, I have something to tell you. I hope you’re okay with it.”
Clark: “What?”
Lana: “I’ve sort of moved my things into your house.”
Clark is surprised but he gives Lana a big smile.
Clark: “I’m okay with it but what about my mom?”
Lana: “It was her idea.”
Clark: “Well then let’s go home.”
We see the couple surrounded by golden light. They are about to disappear when we hear Clark’s voice.
Clark: “You’re not going to believe what I’m going to tell you about Lois.”

Act 4: Scene 5
The scene takes place at the Talon. Clark, Lana, Jimmy, Chloe and Lois are sitting at a table drinking coffee.
Clark: “So Lois, I hear there’s now a nickname for the guys you date.”
Lois looks at him waiting for the punch line.
Clark: “Murderers row.”
Lois: “Very funny Smallville.”
Clark speaks to Jimmy.
Clark: “Come on, Jimmy. Let’s get these girls some more coffee.”
Both Clark and Jimmy get up from the table leaving behind Lois, Chloe and Lana.
Chloe: ‘Don’t worry, Lois. I’m sure there’s someone out there that’s meant for you.”
Lois is looking at Jimmy and Clark from behind. And for the first time she is looking at Clark in a ‘non-friend’ sort of way. Lois is smiling. Lana notices where Lois’ eyes are going.
Lana: “Lois.”
Lois: “Yeah, Lana.”
Lana: “Don’t even think it.”
The smile drops from Lois’ face.

They both laugh at Jimmy’s last comment. They get up to leave. As they are leaving we see that there is someone at a table behind them reading a newspaper. This person is a man, tall and blonde with striking blue eyes. As Jimmy and Chloe get up to leave the diner, this person gets up, pays his bill and follows them out the door.

Scientist: “What the hell is that?”
Lex doesn’t look at him as he answers. He just smiles.
Lex: “That, my friend, is the door to a new world.”

Jor-El: “You must prevent the nuclear device from opening the other end of the Zone. Once you have done this, if you detonate the device from inside the Zone, you will seal up the first entrance and Luthor will not be able to access his Zone again. But you must make your escape before the heat of the blast reaches the entrance. If you do not do this you will be a prisoner…Forever. I will not be able to help you.”

Chloe: “I’ll be perfectly honest with you. I’ve had someone else on my mind an awful lot. And that someone else isn’t Clark.”
After she says this, Chloe and Jimmy are drawn together in a long, tender kiss.

Lana: “Clark, there’s something I haven’t told you. Something that happened before the second meteor shower.”

Clark: “Tell me the truth. Do you want out?”
There is a moment of silence before she answers.
Lana: “Never.”

The scene is in the LuthorCorp complex. As Lex and the scientists are waiting, there is an explosion through the wall behind them as if something has shot its way through. We see a blur of blue and red streak past them and enter the Zone.
Lex: “What was that? What they hell just happened?”
As he finishes his sentence, the complex is filled with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.

OPENING
The scene takes place inside the Phantom Zone. There is no sense of time and distance. The zone is pulsating from within and changing different colors in every direction.
Luthor’s missile with the attached nuclear warhead is streaking through the Zone. Behind it but catching up quickly is Clark Kent. The view is from the top of Clark’s head as we see him closing in on the fire coming out from the engine of the missile. He reaches the top of the missile. At this point he knows he must turn the missile around and detonate it just before he goes back through his original entrance. But as he looks up he sees something streaking towards him from the direction he is headed. It closes in on him and then it passes him, flying in the opposite direction. It is another missile flying toward the opening where Clark had entered. On top of the missile is another…Clark Kent. The Alternate Universe (AU) Clark Kent is clothed in a blue jacket and red shirt. Momentarily, both of them lock eyes with one another and then they both realize what is happening.
Clark looks in the direction to which his missile is heading and he sees a light that he is closing in on quickly. The other entrance to the Alternate Universe, the entrance which Clark was supposed to prevent from opening has already been opened. What is happening in Clark’s universe is also happening in the Alternate Universe. It is no longer a question of turning the missile around. Clark must prevent the missile from flying through the opening to the Alternate Universe. He must detonate the missile close enough to the entrance so that the heat from the blast seals the entrance to the Alternate Universe from inside the Phantom Zone. But at the same time he must escape before the entrance his sealed. He doesn’t have time to go back to his universe. He must escape into the Alternate Universe.
Clark leaves the top of the missile and turns to face the missile as it is flying towards him. In other words, Clark is flying backwards. He is closing in on the light with the missile just a few feet from his face. Heat vision shoots out of his eyes and streaks towards the top of the missile. It begins to glow a vibrant red as it heats up. The warhead explodes. In slow motion we see the waves of the blast moving towards Clark. He turns himself around to face the light. Closer and closer he moves to the light. Closer and closer the waves of the blast moves towards him until the waves are almost upon him.
The opening scene ends with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.

Act 1: Scene 1
The scene takes place in the laboratory of the LuthorCorp complex in Smallville. The view is filled with smoke. We can’t see anything but we hear people in distress. We hear coughing and groaning. Gradually the smoke dissipates and we see people on the floor of the laboratory. They are helping each other. Sparks are coming out of equipment which has shorted out. Debris is scattered on the floor. Lex is on the floor. He is just opening his eyes. His standard black coat is coated with a layer of dust. He picks himself up and looks around. He looks into the direction of where the Zone was. It is no longer there.
Lex: “Can anyone tell me what happened?”
Scientist: “The warhead must have exploded inside the zone before it reached the other end. We’re lucky we’re alive.”
The view changes to Clark lying on the floor of the laboratory. He is just opening his eyes. Everything is exactly the same as the place he has just left. Suddenly standing above him is Lex looking down on him. Moving into the picture standing next to Lex is…Lana.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing here?

Act 1: Scene 2
The scene takes place in Chloe’s dormitory room at Metropolis University. There is a knock on the door and Lois enters the room.
Chloe: “Hi.”
Lois: “Hi. Hey cousin, so what’s it like having the room to yourself since Lana moved out?”
Chloe: “Well it wasn’t like she was here a lot in the first place. I’m always at the Daily Planet and she’s off to wherever. What’s up?”
Lois: “There’s someone I’d like you to meet. I was hoping you and Jimmy could double with us tonight.”
Chloe: “Wait a minute. What about…?”
Lois: “Oh my God! I forgot about him!”
Chloe: “Wow. This must be someone pretty special to make you forget.”
Lois is in a dreamy eyed state.
Lois: “He is.”
She now has a more serious expression.
Lois: “I guess I should tell him. Huh?”
Chloe has a very concerned expression on her face.
Chloe: “Yeah! With all he’s been through you better let him down easy, Lois.”

Act 1: Scene 3
The scene is back at the LuthorCorp complex. Clark is standing up. He is flanked by two security guards. He is having difficulty understanding what is happening, especially seeing Lana with Lex.
Lex: “How did you get here?”
Clark realizes he has to play along with the situation until he has a better understanding of what is going on.
Clark: “I don’t know how I got here. I was in my loft and then I was here.”
Lex advances towards him until he is just inches from his face.
Lex: “I think you’re lying.”
Lana: “Lex, what are you trying to prove?”
Lex: “I’m trying to prove what I always told you, Lana. That Clark Kent is different.”
He points to the hole in the wall that the alternate universe Clark crashed through.
Lex: “See that hole. I think it was made by Clark Kent. I think Clark Kent crashed through that wall, flew into the Zone, detonated the warhead and got out just in time before the warhead exploded and sealed the Zone.”
Lana goes up to Lex and puts her hand on his arm.
Lana: “Lex, I’ve known Clark long enough to know that he’s not some kind of super being.”
Lex: “We’ll see.”
Lex says to his assistant.
Lex: “Get the meteor rocks.”

Act 1: Scene 4
The scene takes place outside of the Metropolis University dormitories. Chloe and Jimmy are walking together.
Chloe: “Would it be okay with you if we go out with Lois and her new interest tonight?”
Jimmy: “New interest. Huh? Sure.”
The conversation continues and we see them walking along. Trailing behind them on the other side of the road is the tall, blonde stranger.

Act 1: Scene 5
The scene is back at LuthorCorp laboratory. An assistant is carrying a lead box to Lex. Clark, who is still flanked by the two security guards, appears anxious over what is about to happen. Lana is standing by. She is unsure as to why Lex is doing this. The assistant gives Lex the box and Lex brings it up to Clark.
Lex: “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
Lex opens up the box and brings it up to Clark’s face. Clark braces himself for the expected pain. But nothing happens. The meteor rocks do not have their usual glow. Clark is just as surprised as Lex. After a few moments Lana comes between them.
Lana: “Lex, I don’t know what you were expecting to see but the only thing you’ve proven is that Clark Kent is just like everyone else.”
A scientist comes up to Lex.
Scientist: “Everything is ruined. The blast fused all of the circuits.”
Lex: “What about the linkages to the other power plants.”
Scientist: “The blast severed all of the linkages. We have a total system failure.”
Lex: “How long until we can become operational again.”
Scientist: “I don’t know if we can become operational again.”
Lana: “Congratulations Lex. Are you ready to tell the scientific world that there’s an alternate universe in Clark’s barn.”
Lana walks away with a disgusted look expression on face.
Lex looks back at Clark and addresses the security guards.
Lex: “Get him out of here.”

Act 1: Scene 6
The scene takes place outside of the LuthorCorp complex. The security guards have just escorted Clark outside of the gate. Clark looks around to see that no one is watching. He then begins to run. But he cannot achieve anything faster than a normal pace. The gate opens and a Jeep come out. It is Lana. She pulls up along side Clark and rolls down her window.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing?”
Clark is unsure as to how to answer.
Clark: “I’m just a little bit disoriented.”
Lana: “Get in. I’ll give you a ride home.”
Clark gets in on the passenger side. The Jeep proceeds down the road.
Lana: “Clark, how did you really get in there?”
Clark: ‘I told you. I was in my barn then I found myself in there.”
Lana is now angry.
Lana: “Don’t you think I’ve known you long enough to know when you’re lying.”
Clark is silent.
Clark: “Well let me ask you something. What are you doing with Lex?”
Lana looks surprised that Clark would even ask such a question.
Lana: “What kind of a stupid question is that? Lex and I are together. I thought you had finally accepted that.”
Clark is still having a difficult time understanding what is going on.
Clark: “Don’t you remember anything of what happened on top of LuthorCorp tower during the blackout?”
Lana: “What are you talking about? How do you know I was on top of LuthorCorp tower? I don’t even know what happened. I was unconscious and then I woke up. It was the same with Lex. What happened on the tower?”
Clark doesn’t say anything. He just looks straight ahead. Lana slams the brakes on the car.
Lana: “Get out! Get out and walk! It’s still the same old Clark Kent. It’s still the same secrets and lies.”
End of Act 1

Act 2: Scene 1
The scene takes place in the Kent barn. Clark is walking into the barn and up the loft. Chloe and Martha are waiting for him.
Clark: “Am I glad to see you guys?”
Chloe: “What happened? Where have you been?”
Clark: “I’ve been in the LuthorCorp complex.”
Martha: “Are you alright? You look tired.”
Clark: “Well, I had to walk a couple of miles to get home.”
Chloe: “Walk? Why?”
Clark: “I don’t have any powers in this…universe.”
Both women look at each other in confusion.
Martha: “This…universe?”
Clark: “This is going to be hard to explain. I’m Clark but I’m not your Clark. I’m from an alternate universe that exists in the same time and space as this one but in a different dimension.”
Martha: “You watch too much Star Trek.”
Clark: “Mom, you have to believe me. I don’t have any powers because the physical laws that govern the universes are different. What functions in one universe will not function in another.”
Chloe: “So you’re Clark from a different universe where everything is the same as this one.”
Clark: “The same but at the same time, different.”
Chloe: “Different? How?”
Clark: “Well for one thing, Lana isn’t with Lex. She’s with me.”
Martha: “Clark, you have to stop this. I thought we were past this obsession of yours.”
Clark: “I’m telling you the truth.”
For a moment the three of them are standing silent. Then Clark speaks up.
Clark: “It’s possible that whatever is happening here is also happening back home.”
Both Chloe and Martha are looking at Clark with a perplexed expression.
Clark: “He must be going through the same thing. He must be trying to find a way to get back. The only way to get back is through the Phantom Zone. And there’s only one way to get to another Phantom Zone.”
Both Chloe and Martha are still looking at him strangely.
Clark: “The Fortress!”
Clark runs to his desks and begins to go through the drawers. He is in a panic.
Clark: “The disk! The disk! It’s gone!”
Chloe: “You’re really serious, aren’t you?”
Clark: “Yes, I’m serious. The Phantom Zone is not only a prison. It’s a tunnel between dimensions. I have to go back in and the only way to do that is at the Fortress. But I can’t get to the Fortress unless I teleport from the Kawatche caves. And I can’t teleport unless I have the disc. In my universe, I left the disc in my desk. But, reality is different here. The disc is gone.”
We now hear a voice of someone entering the barn.
Lois: “Hello! Anybody home?”
Chloe turns to Clark.
Chloe: “That’s not the only thing that’s different.

Act 2: Scene 2
The scene takes place at Clark’s loft. Lois is walking up the steps. Both Chloe and Martha have uncomfortable smiles on their faces.
Martha: “Well. We’ll just leave you two alone. Come on, Chloe.”
Martha and Chloe leave. Clark and Lois are standing there looking at one another. Finally Lois breaks the ice and kisses Clark on the cheek. Clark is just standing still, uncertain as to what is going on.
Lois: “Hi. There’s something I have to say. I think you might want to sit down.”
Clark says slowly.
Clark: “I think I’d rather stay standing.”
Lois begins to speak at a very fast pace. While she is speaking she is walking around the stationary Clark.
Lois: “Look Smallville. I mean Clark. I know you hate me calling you Smallville. I have to be honest with you. I know you’ve had a really rough time and you and I have been together. And being with you has been really nice. You’re a really great guy. Not the man of my dreams. But really great. But I’ve met the man of my dreams. He’s very different than you. His world is the world of art, literature and sophistication. Whereas your world is the world of corn, cows and flannel. Not that it’s bad. Because it isn’t. But it just isn’t me. And I’m sure you want me to be happy the same way I want you to be happy. So I’m just telling you that I can’t see you anymore. I don’t want to hurt you but I’m sure you understand. Good. I see you understand. Besides we’ll always be friends. Good. Okay. I have to go now because he’s picking me up in an hour. See you around, Smallville.”
Lois stops and skips down the steps of the loft and out of the barn.
Clark is still standing there. He hasn’t moved. He says to himself.
Clark: “What just happened?”

Act 2: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Luthor mansion. Lana is in the main room by the fireplace. Clark walks in the room.
Lana: “Clark, what are you doing here?”
Clark: “Lana, I need your help.”
Lana: “Clark, you shouldn’t be here.”
Clark: “Lana, please let me speak.”
They are standing very close to one another.
Clark: “Lana. I’m looking for a disc. It’s silver and octagonal shaped. It has some inscriptions on it.”
Lana: “A disc? What do you need a disc for?”
Clark: “Lana, I need it to get…home.”
Lana has a distrusting look on her face.
Clark: “Lana, Lex is right. There is an alternate universe. I was in the Zone. But I’m from the other universe. I have to get back. To do that, I need the disc.”
Lana backs up from him.
Lana: “Clark, you need help. There is no such thing as an alternate universe.”
Clark: “Lana, you’ve got to believe me. In the other universe, you’re not with Lex. You and I are together.”
Lana is now angry.
Lana: “Clark! Stop it! Just stop it! I thought we were past this. I think you’d better leave.”
Clark turns and begins walking towards the door. Then he stops. A thought has occurred to him and he turns back to Lana.
Clark: “Do you still have the nightmares?”
Lana looks up in shock.
Lana: “What did you say?”
Clark: “Do you still have nightmares about Genevieve Teague?”
Lana: “How do you know about that?”
Clark: “The Lana in my universe trusted me enough to tell me.”
He turns and walks out the door. Lana is left standing by the fireplace.

The scene takes place outside the LuthorCorp mansion. Just as Clark’s truck is leaving the mansion, Lex’s sport’s car is arriving. Lex sees Clark’s truck go on the highway.
Lex: “Damn it.”
He turns his cars around and follows Clark down the highway.

Act 3: Scene 1
The scene takes place outside a restaurant. Chloe and Jimmy are leaving along with Edmund and Lois. Across the street from the restaurant is a car. Seated in the car is the stranger who has been following Jimmy and Chloe. As the two couples begin to walk down the street towards Edmund’s SUV, Chloe senses that they are being followed. She briefly looks behind and sees the stranger. She whispers to Jimmy.
Chloe: “Jimmy, don’t look. But there’s someone behind us who’s been following us.”
Jimmy: “Are you sure?”
Chloe: “Yes. I thought my mind was playing tricks with me but I keep seeing this tall, blonde man wherever you and I go. He’s right across from the restaurant.”
The two couples get in Edmunds SUV. Chloe and Jimmy are in the back seat. As Edmund’s vehicle pulls onto the road, the stranger’s vehicle begins to follow them.
Chloe: “Edmund, we’re being followed.”
Edmund: “We’re being followed. Who would want to follow us?”
Chloe: “Actually, it’s not us. It’s me and Jimmy. Lex Luthor has sworn revenge for the article Jimmy and I wrote about him in the Daily Planet.”
Edmund: “That was some story. It’s too bad the case was dismissed. It figures that Luthor would want some payback for that. Is that the car behind us?”
Chloe looks back and sees the vehicle.
Chloe: “That’s the one.”
Edmund: “Let’s see what we can do about this.”
Edmund’s vehicle is stopped at a traffic light at an intersection. He is watching the cars go across the intersection. The car following is stopped behind him. Suddenly Edmund hits the gas and brings his car into the intersection into the oncoming traffic. He makes a sharp left, barely missing a car and speeds down the road. Horns are blasting at him. The car following tries to do the same. It goes into the intersection and makes a left but another car collides with it. Edmund’s vehicle is far ahead of the scene of the accident and in the clear. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are overjoyed at what he has done.
Edmund: “Well that takes care of that. Where shall we go now?”
Lois takes his hand in hers.
Lois: “My hero.”
Both Chloe and Jimmy say at the same time.
Chloe & Jimmy: “Our hero.”

Act 3: Scene 2
The scene takes place in Clark’s barn. He is walking into the barn. He is about to go up the steps to his loft when he hears Lex’s voice behind him.
Lex: “You just never learn. Do you, Clark?”
Before Clark can turn around to the sound of the voice he is punched in the face by Lex and falls to the ground.
Lex: “I don’t want you seeing, Lana.”
Before he finishes his sentence he has kicked Clark in the head. Clark is on the ground and Lex is now using all of the martial arts skills that he has learned.
Lex: “You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to do this?”

Act 3: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Talon. The place is closed for the night. But Chloe, Jimmy and Edmund are seated at a table. Lois is bringing a tray with various flavored coffees.
Edmund: “I guess living in an apartment above a coffee shop has certain advantages.”
Lois smiles at him as she hands him his coffee. She sits next to him.
Jimmy: “This has been quite a night. We should do this again.”
Edmund stands up from the table and takes a hand gun out from his suit.
Edmund: “I’m afraid that’s not going to be possible.”

Act 3: Scene 4
The scene takes place in the Kent barn. Clark is lying on the ground, severely beaten. Lex is standing above him.
Lex: “This is for all of those times that you’ve gotten in my way.”
Another kick is sent to Clark’s body.
Lex: “This is because Lana still loves you.”
Another kick is sent towards Clark.
Clark is now struggling to stay on his knees.
Lex: “Did I ever tell you that it was I who sent Simone to you. I sent Simone and Lana was still willing to forgive you.”
Another kick to Clark’s head. His nose is broken.
Lex: “You don’t know how gratifying this is. This is almost better than sex.”
Another kick to Clark’s chest. We hear the crack of a rib breaking. Clark is now spitting up blood.
Lex: “I take that back. This is better than sex.”
He is about to let go another kick onto Clark’s head when we hear a smack. Lex’s eyes roll up into his head and he falls to the ground. Coming into the picture is Lana. She is holding a 2 by 4 piece of wood.
Lana: “That’s for sending Simone.”
She goes to Clark’s side. She is kneeling beside him. Clark is barely able to speak.
Clark: “Why…did…you…come…here?”
Lana pulls out the octagonal disc from her pocket.
Lana: “I came to give you this.”
She helps Clark to his feet.
Lana: “Clark, you need to go to a hospital.”
Clark: “No. Take me to the caves.”

Act 3: Scene 5
The scene takes place at the Talon. Edmund is standing up holding the gun. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are seated.
Lois: “Edmund, I don’t understand.”
Chloe: “He used you to get to us.”
Lois looks at Edmund. Her eyes are pleading.
Edmund: “Don’t think I didn’t enjoy your company, Lois. You’re a wonderful lady. I wish we could have gotten to know each other better. But I’m sorry. It’s time for this date to end.”
He points his gun at Chloe when suddenly we hear a muffled shot. The view is of Edmund. There is a bullet hole is the center of his head and he falls to floor. Out of the rear of the Talon comes the tall, blonde stranger. He puts his gun back into his coat and he pulls out a cell phone. Chloe, Jimmy and Lois are sitting in stunned silence. The stranger is talking on his phone.
Stranger: “Hello, Mr. Luthor. They came back right where you said they would. Yes. He’s been taken care of. I need a cleanup and disposal crew.”
He hangs up the phone and speaks to Chloe and Jimmy.
Stranger: “After that stunt at the traffic light I didn’t know if I would make it here in time. Lionel Luthor thought you might need some protection.”
He addresses Lois.
Stranger: “I’m sorry miss. Your friend is Edmund Palladin. He’s a hired killer. He usually works in Europe.”
Chloe: “Who hired him?”
Stranger: “A man named Albert Mensa. Otherwise known as The Raptor. He’s the most dangerous man in the world.”
Chloe: “If he’s the most dangerous man in the world, why has no one ever heard of him?”
Stranger: “He just might be the person behind the terrorism in Saudi Arabia, the revolt in Russia and piracy in the South Pacific. Yet, no one knows where he is or even what he looks like. If you were in charge of your government would you want your populace to know that you had no idea of how to get the most dangerous man in the world?”
Chloe remembers the photograph she took of the man getting into Lex Luthor’s car outside of the Metropolis Courthouse.
Chloe: “I think I know what he looks like.”

Act 4: Scene 1
The scene takes place in Lana’s Jeep. They are driving to the caves. They are sitting in silence.
Lana: “You don’t know how much I hated you.”
Clark doesn’t say anything. He just turns towards Lana.
Lana: “I hated you but more than that I hated what you made me become.”
Clark doesn’t know what to say.
Lana: “All the time thinking of you. Thinking of us. As painful as it was I couldn’t stop myself. I had to be near you or have something that was yours. I came to your loft and I went through your things when you weren’t home. I just wanted something of yours. Something that I could hold. I saw that disc. It was so unusual. But it was ‘you’. I took it. What’s it for?
Clark: “You’ll see once we get to the caves.”
Lana: “Do you know what it’s like?”
Clark turns to her. He does not understand what she is asking.
Lana: “Do you know what it’s like to love someone so much that when they leave you the world, as you know it, ends?”
Clark looks back towards the road.
Clark: “Yes. I know what it’s like.”

Act 4: Scene 2
The scene takes place at the Kawatche caves. Clark and Lana are entering the transport chamber.
Lana: “I don’t remember this place being here. How did you find it?”
Clark: “It was left her for me?”
Lana: “For you?”
Clark painfully smiles to himself.
Clark: “Take my world for it. You’ve been through this before.”
Clark takes the disc and slips it into the portal slot. The chamber lights up with a blinding, golden glow. Lana is stunned by what she is experiencing.
Clark: “Give me your hand.”
Lana looks at him not quite trusting him.
Clark: “Please.”
She places her hand in his and he pulls her to him. We see that she rests her head against him, feeling the comfort of being close to him. A blast of light comes from the portal and the couple is swept into the Fortress. Lana’s eyes are wide open in amazement.
Clark: “This is the Fortress of Solitude. It is a replica of the planet I came here from, the planet Krypton. A planet that was destroyed.”
Lana: “You’re an alien.”
Clark nods his head.
Clark: “Think Lana. Think back to the tornado. Think back to warehouse explosion. Think back to the bus accident you almost had.”
Lana: “That was you?”
Clark: “No. That was your Clark in this universe. I have to get back to my Lana in my universe.”
A voice emanate from the Fortress.
Jor-El: “Kal-El I have been waiting for you.”
Lana is frightened at hearing the voice. She is even more frightened at hearing the name, ‘Kal-El.”
Lana: “You’re Kal-El.”
Clark: “Make Clark explain it to you when he gets back. It’s not as bad as you think.”
From the center console a purple crystal rises. Clark grabs the crystal and places it in a slot in the console. In the center for the Fortress, the Zone opens up. It is pulsating back and forth. Clark begins to walk toward the Zone. Then stops and turns back to Lana.
Clark: “It doesn’t have to be the way it is now.”
Lana doesn’t understand.
Clark: “If your Clark knew what I know he would tell you that when he told you that he didn’t love you it was the worst mistake of his life. He would tell you that the first time he saw you and Lex together a part of him died that day. He would tell you that you are always in his thoughts – day and night – every minute of every day. He would tell that if the thought of you not being in his life ever comes into his head; he has to push it out because he feels like he’s done something terrible. And he would tell you that when you touch him you make him feel something in such a way that he’s ashamed of himself because he doesn’t know how to describe it. He would tell you that it has always been, is and always will be you, Lana.”
He turns back to go to the Zone. Lana stops him.
Lana: “Your Lana is a lucky girl.”
Clark shakes his head.
Clark: “No. I’m the fortunate one. I’ve been given a second chance.”
He smiles at her and then leaves her. He moves towards the Zone and steps inside.

Act 4: Scene 3
The scene takes place inside the Phantom Zone. Clark’s powers are gradually being restored. He begins to fly through the Zone. He begins to pick up speed. As he is flying we see that the cuts and bruises from his beating are healing and then disappear. As he is flying through the zone he sees an image coming towards him. It is the Alternate Universe (AU) Clark. They both stop and look at one another.
Clark & AU Clark: “Whoa!”
AU Clark: “You’ve got quite a girlfriend there, Clark?”
Clark: “Yes, I do. You can have the same thing to if you’re willing to open up.”
AU Clark: “What do you mean?”
Clark: “Lana’s back at the Fortress. She’s waiting for you.”
AU Clark: “You told her everything?”
Clark: “No. That’s for you to do.”
AU Clark: “What about Lois?”
Clark: “Isn’t that a no brainer?”
AU Clark nods his head and begins to laugh.
Clark: “Hey, can I ask you something?”
AU Clark: “Sure.”
Clark: “With all the flying I’ve been doing and going around the world, I’ve been thinking that maybe I need a disguise or something. Have you thought about that?”
AU Clark: “Yeah. That’s why I started using these.”
AU Clark pulls a pair of eyeglasses out of his pocket.
Clark: “Eyeglasses. You wear eyeglasses when you fly?”
AU Clark: “No I wear the glasses when I’m not flying. When I’m trying to act normal. You’d be surprised how these things fool people.”
Clark: “I’ll have to think about it. I feel like I should shake your hand.”
AU Clark: “Yeah but won’t that bring about some kind of matter anti-matter reaction and cause the end of all existence?”
Clark: “You watch too much Star Trek.”
They both laugh and then they turn to leave but AU Clark say’s one last thing.
AU Clark: “Clark, it’s great to know that I’m not alone.”
Clark: “Clark, you’ve never been alone. Lana has always been there.”
He nods his head and they both fly off.

Act 4: Scene 4
The scene takes place in the Fortress of Solitude. Lana is waiting by center console. She is anxious. The Phantom Zone is pulsating back and forth. Clark flies out of the Zone and lands. He and Lana are looking at one another.
Lana: “Is it you?”
Clark smiles and nods his head.
Clark: “I’ve come back to you.”
Lana runs to him and jumps in his arms. She is kissing him all over his face.
Lana: “Never let you go. Never.”
Clark is now carrying her as he is walking towards the portal.
Clark: “So how was the other guy?”
Lana: “Not as trusting as you. I think the other Lana has gone down a different path.”
Clark: “I think he’ll find that some things have changed when he gets back.”
They are about to teleport when Lana stops him.
Lana: “Clark, I have something to tell you. I hope you’re okay with it.”
Clark: “What?”
Lana: “I’ve sort of moved my things into your house.”
Clark is surprised but he gives Lana a big smile.
Clark: “I’m okay with it but what about my mom?”
Lana: “It was her idea.”
Clark: “Well then let’s go home.”
We see the couple surrounded by golden light. They are about to disappear when we hear Clark’s voice.
Clark: “You’re not going to believe what I’m going to tell you about Lois.”

Act 4: Scene 5
The scene takes place at the Talon. Clark, Lana, Jimmy, Chloe and Lois are sitting at a table drinking coffee.
Clark: “So Lois, I hear there’s now a nickname for the guys you date.”
Lois looks at him waiting for the punch line.
Clark: “Murderers row.”
Lois: “Very funny Smallville.”
Clark speaks to Jimmy.
Clark: “Come on, Jimmy. Let’s get these girls some more coffee.”
Both Clark and Jimmy get up from the table leaving behind Lois, Chloe and Lana.
Chloe: ‘Don’t worry, Lois. I’m sure there’s someone out there that’s meant for you.”
Lois is looking at Jimmy and Clark from behind. And for the first time she is looking at Clark in a ‘non-friend’ sort of way. Lois is smiling. Lana notices where Lois’ eyes are going.
Lana: “Lois.”
Lois: “Yeah, Lana.”
Lana: “Don’t even think it.”
The smile drops from Lois’ face.
Fade to black
