Season 6: Episode 8: “Singularity”
“Previously on Smallville”

Scientist #3: “Now let me understand this. Luthor is hiring scientists, physicists, engineers and is spending billions of dollars, all to create a quantum singularity in the laboratory. What does he get out of it?”
His two companions are silent for a moment.
Scientist #1: “Does it matter?”
The other two shake their heads.
Scientist #3: “Okay. Count me in.”

The scene is back in Lionel’s office. He is looking at the document he has to sign and then he hears words from his past.
“Now is no time to get a conscience.”
He picks up the telephone and dials a number.
Lionel: “Hello, Ms. Sullivan. This is Lionel Luthor. I need to meet with you, Clark and Lana. What for? Well let’s just say that it has to do with Lex’s latest project. And I think you’re going to need someone working from the inside.

OPENING
The scene takes place at a LuthorCorp complex. The words at the bottom of the picture say
The Aleutian Islands
Near the Bering Strait
We see a technician monitoring a blip on a RADAR screen. We are inside the communications control room. There are several other technicians around him. He is dressed in a paramilitary uniform but on the arm of the outfit is a patch with the LuthorCorp insignia. Another one of the technicians is on the telephone as they watch the RADAR scope.
Lead Technician: “Yes sir. We have a bogey. It has the same RADAR signature as the bogeys we’ve seen in northern India and New Zealand.”
We now see who is at the other end of the telephone.
Lex: “Well, what is it? Is it a plane?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too small to be a plane.”
Lex: “Is it some kind of bird?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too big to be a bird?”
Lex: “Can we get some kind of visual?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too far up and it’s moving too fast. We believe it must be some type of unmanned surveillance drone. The type the military uses.
We see Lex thinking for a moment.
Lex: “Knock it out of the sky!”
Lead Technician: “Yes sir!”
The Lead Technician gets on the intercom.
Lead Technician: “Blanket the area. Bring the target down.”
The next view is of a half dozen paramilitary types running out of the building carrying shoulder held Surface to Air Missiles. They are standing in a row and aiming their weapons. We hear sound of the individual RADAR controls as they lock on to their target.
Technician on RADAR screen: “We’ve got tone.”
Lead Technician: “Fire.”
The half dozen paramilitary types fire their missiles. We see the missiles streaming up into the sky. After a few moments, the missiles disappear and then the sky is filled with a tremendous explosion. We are now in the RADAR room. The screen is clear. The Lead Technician is once again on the telephone with Lex.
Lead Technician: “Sir, the screen is clear. The target has been eliminated.
The scene ends with Lex hanging up the telephone.

OPENING CREDITS

Act 1 Scene 1
The scene takes place in Clark’s loft. Lionel, Chloe and Lana are present. Lionel is sitting on Clark’s sofa trying to read a magazine. But it is clear that he is nervous. Chloe is sitting at Clark’s desk punching the keys on her laptop computer. Lana is at the window looking outward. She has wrapped her arms around herself. She is deeply worried. Lionel breaks the silence.
Lionel: “How long has it been?”
Chloe: “It’s almost three hours. He’s never been gone this long before.”
Both of them look at Lana and then back at each other. Lana continues to gaze out the window. Suddenly we hear a whoosh of wind and Clark is in the loft. His clothes are in tatters. They appear to have been burned off. His hair is filled with soot and his skin is darkened with a black residue. At his arrival, Chloe and Lionel jump out of their seats in surprise. Lana runs to him and jumps in his arms.
Lana: “Clark!”
Clark: “It’s alright. It’s okay. I’m alright.”
Both Chloe and Lionel gather around the couple and examine his appearance.
Chloe: “What happened?”
Clark: “Let’s just say the folks at LuthorCorp come up short in the area of hospitality. I’ve had to jump to catch a missile before. Now I know what it’s like to outrun one.
Chloe: “They fired a missile at you?”
Clark: “Several.”
Chloe: “How does a corporation get its hands on missiles?”
Lionel: “Money is the universal language of all nations, Ms. Sullivan. In this area Lex is a linguist. They are many nations that are willing to sell anything to anyone. Price is all that matters.”
Lana finally is composed enough to pull herself away from Clark.
Lana: “Did they see you?”
Clark: “No. I was too high. They didn’t have a good fix on me. They had to blanket the area with missiles. After the first barrage, I went straight up as fast as I good.”
Lionel: “How fast is that?”
Clark: “I don’t know. But I was in outer space in two, maybe three seconds.”
Chloe look at Clark in astonishment.
Chloe: “Seconds?”
Clark nods his head in affirmation.
Lana walks away and goes back to the window.
Lana: “You’re getting faster.”
Chloe gets back on the subject of Luthor.
Chloe: “What did you find out?”
Clark: “The complex is just like the others. It’s enormous. It’s just a big power generating plant. But what is he using for fuel.”
Chloe: “I think I have the answer to that.”
Chloe goes back to her computer. Clark, Lionel and Lana are now gathered around Chloe. We have a view of a map on her computer screen. We see the screen as we hear Chloe’s voice.
Chloe: “Lex has built power generating plants at the Red Sea near Saudi Arabia, the southern tip of South America, Siberia near the Bering Strait, northern India near the Himalayas and New Zealand. All of these plants are located at or near the seams of the Tectonic Plates of the Earth’s crust.”
Clark: “The Tectonic Plates?”
Lionel: “The earth’s crust is formed of plates. When these plates move and collide with one another we have an earthquake.”
Lana: “So Lex is trying to manufacture an earthquake?”
Chloe: “I don’t think so. These seams would also be the locations one would use if you were to tap into the earth to use geothermal energy. All of these locations are connected to the main generating plant here in Smallville.”
Lana: “How can he do this without anybody noticing?”
Chloe: “The authorities have been occupied. We’ve had terrorist activity in Saudi Arabia. There’s been a revolt in Chechnya which has kept Russia occupied. There’s a revolution in Argentina. We’ve had border incidents between China and India and modern day pirates in the southern Pacific. All of this is happening at the same time that Lex is doing whatever it is he’s doing.”
Clark: “And what exactly is Lex doing?”
Lionel: “He says he’s in the process of creating a Singularity.”
Clark: “A black hole?”
Lana: “It’s not a black hole. It’s the origin of a black hole. It is a mass of zero volume but of infinite density and temperature. In a Singularity there is no such thing as space and time. This is all theoretical. No one has ever actually seen a Singularity.”
Chloe: “How would he know how to do this?”
Clark: “Maybe it isn’t Lex who knows how to do this?”
Lionel looks at Clark.
Lionel: “Zod?
Clark nods his head in affirmation.
Lionel: “It has to be something else. I’ve seen the records of the people he’s brought into the corporation. There are not only physicists and engineers but he’s brought in experts in nuclear fission.”
Clark: “I think I know where I have to go to find the answer.”
Chloe and Lionel get their things and get ready to leave.
Lionel: “I have to get back to Metropolis.”
Chloe: “I have to get back to the Daily Planet.”
They leave the loft. Clark and Lana are now alone.
Clark realizes that he is filthy.
Clark: “I should get cleaned up. I’m going to take a shower.”
He begins to walk away.
Lana: “Clark.”
He turns around.
Clark: “Yeah?”
Lana: “Would you like some company?”

Act 1: Scene 2
The scene takes place at Senate offices in Topeka. Lois Lane is hurrying down the office corridor. She hears a voice behind her.
Unidentified man: “Ms. Lane! Ms Lane!”
Lois turns around and sees a man coming towards her. He is very tall and athletically built. He is wearing a designer suit. He has dark hair and dark eyes and is very well groomed. In other words, he is the type of man that Lois would be attracted to.
Unidentified man: “You are a hard person to get a hold of.”
Lois: “And you are?”
Unidentified man: “Edmund Dermitt. I’m the lead attorney for an array of citizens’ committees that monitor all of LuthorCorp’s activities.”
Lois: “What can I do for you, Mr. Dermitt?”
Dermitt: “Edmund, please. I’ve been trying to see Senator Kent but I haven’t been able to get on her calendar. I represent a group of citizens who are very concerned with the power generating plant that has been hastily constructed in Smallville. Actually, we’re appalled at the lack of governmental scrutiny regarding its construction.”
Lois: “Senator Kent s also concerned. But right now everyone is occupied with the unprecedented crime wave that has hit Metropolis.”
Dermitt: “Oh, I understand that. Believe me. Being a resident of Metropolis I’m very aware of the danger on the streets of our city. But the group I represent has come across some information which I think the senator might find useful. Perhaps you and I can discuss it.”
Lois: “Well I’m very busy right now.”
Dermitt: “You couldn’t take the time right now for a cup of coffee?”
Lois: “I can’t. I’m already late for a meeting.”
Dermitt: “Could I interest you in having dinner with me?”
Lois is surprised but at the same time flattered at the offer.
Lois: “When?”
Dermitt: “Tonight.”
Lois: “Where?”
Dermitt: “Why don’t I meet you right here at seven.”
Lois: “It’s a date.”

Act 1: Scene 3
The scene is taking place in a diner. Chloe and Jimmy are having a cup of coffee together.
Jimmy: “So help understand something, Chloe. How is it that you have all of this eyewitness information about what’s going on in Saudi Arabia, the Himalayas and Siberia? How are you able to get this information without ever leaving the country?”
Chloe is almost at a loss as to how to respond.
Chloe: “A good reporter respects the confidentiality of her sources.”
Jimmy: “In other words, it’s none of my business.”
Chloe: “I’m just trying to protect you.”
Jimmy: “Well that’s a first.”
They both laugh at Jimmy’s last comment. They get up to leave. As they are leaving we see that there is someone at a table behind them reading a newspaper. This person is a man, tall and blonde with striking blue eyes. As Jimmy and Chloe get up to leave the diner, this person gets up, pays his bill and follows them out the door.

Act 1: Scene 4
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant in Smallville. We are inside a vast laboratory. Lex is talking to several scientists.
Lex: “When will we be ready to test this out?”
Scientist #1: “Not for another week.”
Lex: “We’ll test it tonight.”
Scientist #1: “Tonight! We’re not ready.”
Lex: “If you’ve followed my instructions, we’ll be ready. Have you followed my instructions, doctor?”
Scientist #1: “To the letter, Mr. Luthor.”
Scientist #2: “Mr. Luthor, I don’t think you understand. You’ve given us a design of a technology that has never been seen before. This needs to be studied and documented and presented to the world’s scientific community. The technology itself is groundbreaking. You may end up receiving not one Nobel Prize but several.”
Lex snaps at the group.
Lex: “I’m not interested in prizes. There are certain people who are too interested in what we are doing.”
Lex starts to walk away and then stops and turns to the group.
Lex: “We throw the switch tonight.”
End of Act 1

Act 2: Scene 1
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant. We are in the laboratory. There is an enormous amount of equipment that is being turned on. In the center is the laboratory is a containment chamber. Luthor and several scientists are standing by the chamber ready to see what will happen inside. The place resembles NASA’s Mission Control. There is a Lead Scientist who is coordinating the activity.
Lead Scientist: “Okay, we’re ready to bring the regions on line. Saudi Arabia?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have an outside view of the Saudi Arabia facility as it lights up.
Lead Scientist: “South America?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have an outside view of the South American facility as it lights up.
Lead Scientist: “Siberia?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have a close up of Lex’s face in anticipation of what is about to happen.
Lead Scientist: “India?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have a view of surrounding scientists as they anxiously await the outcome.
Lead Scientist: “Finally, New Zealand?”
Assistant: “New Zealand is on line.”
We now have an outside view of the Smallville Plant as it is fully lit up. The close up is now on Lex.
Lead Scientist: “We are operational.”
Lex: “Throw the switch.”
An assistant at a control panel flips a small switch. The containment chamber lights up. There is something in the middle of the chamber. It’s not clear enough to see. It is surrounded by a bright aura. One of the scientists begins to speak.
Scientist: “These are not the readings I would have expected.”
Hearing this, a group of people surround him at his monitor. Lex continues to look in the chamber and a small smile begins to form on his face.
We now have a view into the chamber. There is an element beginning to take shape in the middle of chamber. The light surrounding it is beginning to dissipate and as the light dies down the image becomes clearer. The element is very small, about the size of a postage stamp. The camera focuses in on the element. We see a two dimensional rectangle that rotating end over end. A scientist comes along side of Luthor.
Scientist: “What the hell is that?”
Lex doesn’t look at him as he answers. He just smiles.
Lex: “That, my friend, is the door to a new world.”

Act 2: Scene 2
The scene takes place in the Fortress of Solitude. Clark is approaching the center of the Fortress. Jor-El’s voice emanates from the Fortress.
Jor-El: “I know why you have come, my son.”
Clark: “I need to know how Krypton was destroyed.”
A crystal comes out of the center console. Clark takes hold of it and images begin to surround him. The images depict Jor-El’s narrative of events.
Jor-El: “I had discovered the Phantom Zone. The endless, inter-dimensional void in which Zod was cast.”
Clark: “The prison I was in.”
Jor-El: “But it is more than a prison.”
Clark now has an expression of curiosity on his face.
Jor-El: “It is only a prison once it has been sealed. Opened, it is a passageway. There is another end which can also be opened.”
Clark: “A passageway to what?”
Jor-El: “It is a passageway to an alternate universe.”
Clark does not understand.
Clark: “An alternate universe?”
Jor-El: “Yes Kal-El. There is more than one reality. Occupying the same space and time can be alternate universes. Universes in different dimensions.”
Clark: “Why was Zod be interested in an alternate universe?”
Jor-El: “Zod had learned many things in his travels throughout many galaxies. He had come to learn that there are two constants in the universe – creation and destruction. He had begun to theorize that creation and destruction could be controlled by thought. He began to believe that with the right technology and the necessary amount of energy, a being would be able to create and to destroy by mere thought. A being would be able to make himself Supreme.”
Clark: “Oh my God.”
Jor-El: “Exactly. But he realized that he could not acquire enough energy in one place to accomplish this. Not until I discovered the Phantom Zone.”
Clark: “So he wanted to tap an alternate universe for energy.”
Jor-El: “But this cannot be done. Each universe has its own set of physical laws. What functions in one universe does not function in another. But Zod would not listen to reason. He convinced his followers to open the passageway, keeping both ends of the Phantom Zone open at the same time. The result was that Krypton was contaminated by energy from the alternate universe. Even though I managed to seal the passageway the damage had already been done. The subatomic particles of our planet disintegrated. Krypton was reduced to its basic elements. It was as if our planet had never existed. This process was slow but could not be stopped. It was during this time that I constructed the ship that brought you to this planet.”
Clark: “I believe Lex Luthor is trying to do this. He must have this remnant of Zod’s memory.”
Jor-El: “Kal-El you cannot let this happen. If both ends of the Phantom Zone are opened at the same time, this planet and everything on it will cease to exist.”
Clark: “He may be able to open it on this end. But how can he open it on the other end of the passageway?”
Jor-El: “If he uses the human’s primitive nuclear weapons he will open the other end. You must go into the Phantom Zone and stop the other end from being opened.”
Clark: “Go back into the Phantom Zone? I don’t think so. Father, I’ve been in there. I know what it’s like. I was in there for only a few hours but I had no idea of how much time had passed. It could have been a few seconds. It could have been a thousand years. All I knew was one thing.”
Clark stops and then says quietly and slowly.
Clark: “All I knew was agony.”
Jor-El: “My son, I will alert you when the Zone has been opened and I will direct you to the source. You must do two things. You must prevent the nuclear device from opening the other end of the Zone. Once you have done this, if you detonate the device from inside the Zone, you will seal up the first entrance and Luthor will not be able to access his Zone again. But you must make your escape before the heat of the blast reaches the entrance. If you do not do this you will be a prisoner…Forever. I will not be able to help you.”
Clark is stunned by what he has just heard.
Jor-El: “My son. You must come to the realization that all of this could have been prevented if you had completed your training. If you had come back to this Fortress of Solitude and completed your training, you would have already known all that I have told you. You would have had the capability to stop Zod before he came to earth.”
Clark: “Are you saying that this is a mess I made.”
Jor-El: “I am saying what Jonathan Kent would have told you – your actions have consequences. You must reconcile yourself to the fact that you were sent here for a reason.”
Clark: “And what is that reason?”
Jor-El: “That will be revealed to you if and when you decide to accept your rightful role in this planet’s future. The longer you delay the more perilous that future becomes.”

Act 2: Scene 3
The scene is in Chloe’s dormitory room at Metropolis University. Jimmy and Chloe are having a cup of coffee.
Jimmy: “Can I ask you a personal question?”
Chloe: “You can ask.”
Jimmy: “How much coffee do you drink a day?”
Chloe laughs at the question.
Chloe: “I stopped counting a long time ago. Now can I ask you about something?”
Jimmy: “Sure.”
Chloe: “How long have you been thinking about kissing me?”
Jimmy: “What makes you think that I am thinking that?”
Chloe: “After Lex’s case was dismissed and you went on your drinking binge, you said that you wanted to kiss me.”
Jimmy: “Yeah but I was drunk.”
Chloe looks disappointed.
Chloe: “Well that’s what a girl wants to hear.”
Jimmy now realizes his mistake.
Jimmy: “But they say that whatever is said when drunk has been thought of beforehand.”
Chloe: “So you did think about it?”
Jimmy: “Yes. I thought about it and I’m still thinking about it.”
Chloe: “Well when are you going to stop thinking and do something about it?”
Both Chloe and Jimmy start to come together.
Jimmy: “But what about Clark? How do you feel now that Clark and Lana are together?”
Chloe: “I’ll be perfectly honest with you. I’ve had somewhat else on my mind an awful lot. And that someone else isn’t Clark.”
After she says this, Chloe and Jimmy are drawn together in a long, tender kiss.

Act 2: Scene 4
The scene takes place outside of the dormitory. In a car across the street from the dormitory sits the stranger who followed Chloe and Jimmy out of the diner.

Act 3: Scene 1
The scene takes place in a restaurant in the state capital. Lois and Edmund are just finishing up dinner. It is obvious that they have had a very successful date and that they are very comfortable with one another. Edmund is watching Lois.
Edmund: “You really astonish me.”
Lois: “How so?”
Edmund: “We’ve had cocktails, a bottle of wine, and an after dinner aperitif and you don’t even look buzzed. How do you do it?”
Lois: “It must be in the military genes from my father. Besides, why are you keeping count? Is this how you usually take advantage of your dates?”
Edmund: “Not at all. It’s just rare that I find someone who is totally comfortable with themselves. It’s refreshing.”
Lois: “Now you tell me something. Ivy League schools, top of your class. Looks and personality. What ever brought you to Kansas to keep tabs on LuthorCorp?
Edmund: “It was where I thought I could do the most good. Almost like a lovely young lady working as chief of staff for a devoted senator of the people.”
Lois can’t seem to stop herself from looking at Edmund.
Lois: “I think I’d like you to meet someone.”
Edmund: “Who?”
Lois: “My cousin, Chloe.”
Edmund: “I hope you’re not thinking of setting me up.”
Lois: “Not at all. I’ve had too many bad experiences to trust my feelings about you right now but I trust Chloe’s judgment.”
Edmund: “I hope I’m up to the challenge.”

Act 3: Scene 2
Chloe and Jimmy are leaving the dormitory. They are walking hand in hand. They get in Jimmy’s car and leave the campus. The car with the stranger begins to follow them.

Act 3: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Talon. Lana enters her apartment. She is startled when she hears a voice from behind her. It is Genevieve Teague.
Genevieve: “I have to applaud you, Lana. I raised my son to have a willpower that couldn't be broken by anything. Except his love for you, apparently.”
Lana: “What do you want from me?”
Genevieve: “The stone. That one Lionel gave you.”
Lana: “Lionel? He never gave me…”
Genevieve points a gun at Lana's face.
Genevieve: “I'm going to find it whether you help or not.”
Lana reaches into the purse and pulls out a red handkerchief. In it is one of the Stones of Knowledge.
Then Lana grips the stone tightly and kicks the gun out of Genevieve's hand. She runs toward the door but Genevieve grabs her hair, stopping her. They struggle against each other. They both fall to the floor with Genevieve above Lana. She wraps her fingers tightly around Lana's throat and chokes her.
Lana’s eyes suddenly flash a brilliant purple. Lana grabs Genevieve's arms roughly, pushing Genevieve onto the ground and kneeling over her.
The stone has fallen to the ground next to them and Lana reaches for it. It flies into her hand and she grips it with both hands and slams it down into Genevieve's chest.
Genevieve's eyes close and she dies.
Lana: “Ahhhhh!”
Lana has been sleeping and she has awakened from her nightmare. She sits up in bed and is breathing heavily. Clark sits up beside her and puts his arm around her. She buries her head in his chest.
Clark: “It’s okay. It’s just a dream.”
Lana begins to regain her composure.
Lana: “Clark, it’s not just any dream.”
Lana gets out of bed and puts her robe on.
Lana: “Clark, there’s something I haven’t told you. Something that happened before the second meteor shower.”
End of Act 3

Act 4: Scene 1
The scene is in the Kent kitchen. Both Clark and Lana are sitting at the kitchen table. They are holding hands.
Lana: “Can you forgive me? Forgive me for what I’ve done. Forgive me for not telling you?”
Clark: “Lana, it was self defense. And as far as forgiveness is concerned, you don’t need my forgiveness. You need to forgive yourself.”
He turns his head. He’s not looking her directly in the eyes.
Lana: “Clark, what’s wrong?”
Clark rises from the table and walks away from her. Then he stops and turns to face her.
Clark: “I’m really scared this time, Lana. I don’t want to go back into the Zone but I don’t know any other way.”
Lana: “I’ve never told you what it does to me each time you go out there. When you went to New Zealand and South America I was scared. But this last time when you came back the way you did. It really hit me.”
Clark: “What are you saying?”
Lana: “Clark, I wake up at night and I ask myself – why? Why does it have to be you? Why does it have to be me? Why does it have to be us? I just want a normal life. A normal life with us together. Is that too much to ask? If it’s not Jor-El it’s Lex. If it’s not Lex, it will be who knows what. Why does it have to be this way?”
Clark walks to Lana and put his arms around her.
Clark: “I don’t know.”
He picks up her head and looks her in the eyes.
Clark: “Tell me the truth. Do you want out?”
There is a moment of silence before she answers.
Lana: “Never.”

Act 4: Scene 2
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant in Smallville. Once again we are in the large laboratory. It is readying itself to open the Phantom Zone. But this time at one end of the laboratory is a platform holding a missile. Lex walks in with his entourage of scientists.
Scientist #1: “What are we doing with a missile?”
Lex: “We are going to open the other side of the Zone?”
Scientist #1: “How?”
Lex: “A small nuclear payload ought to do the trick.”
Scientist: “Nuclear! You have a nuclear bomb! You’re going to kill us all.”
Lex grabs the scientist by his lab coat.
Lex: “I’m not going to kill anything. We are at one end of the Zone. At the other end is another universe. We are going to poke a hole into that universe. That’s all.”
Scientist #2: “How do you know this? Maybe the missile will go through the Zone and slammed into the end of this building, setting off the warhead.”
Lex: “Doctor, if you’re too scared of the challenge. You can leave. Of course, if what you say is true you’ll never get far enough away from here to survive the blast.”
Lex walks away from the entourage and starts barking orders.
Lex: “Bring the Zone on line.”
The operations crew goes through their countdown and flips the switch. The Zone opens up. This time it is outside of the containment chamber and it is much larger. It size fills a wall. Everyone except Lex is paralyzed with the fascination of watching it.
Lex: “Open up the Zone.”
The operations people go through another set of predetermined steps and the Zone opens up. It is no longer rotating. It is vibrating back and forth from within and changing colors.
Lex: “Begin the countdown for missile launch.”

Act 4: Scene 3
The scene is in the Kent kitchen. Suddenly Clark hears a buzzing sound in his ears.
Clark: “It’s happening. Jor-El is sending me his signal.”
He leaves Lana and speeds upstairs. In a moment he comes back down out of his robe and dressed in a blue jacket, red shirt and blue jeans. Lana is in distress as she sees him. They rush to one another and kissed one another as if this is going to be the last time they will see one another. Both of them are scared.
Clark: “I have to go.”
Lana is having difficulty letting him go. Finally she does.
Lana: “Clark, come back to me.”

Act 4: Scene 4
Back at the LuthorCorp complex. The countdown is continuing.
Technician: “Five…four…three…two…one…launch.”
The technician presses the launch button. The missile fires up from behind. The flames from its engines are contained by the blast shield behind it. The missile then shoots forward across the laboratory and into the Zone. It disappears. Everyone is standing in astonishment at what they have just seen. There is a smile on Lex’s face as he is waiting for something to happen.

Act 4: Scene 5
It is an aerial view of the LuthorCorp complex. It is from Clark’s point of view. The complex is getting closer and closer.

Act 4: Scene 6
The scene is in the LuthorCorp complex. As Lex and the scientist are waiting, there is an explosion through the wall behind them as if something has shot its way through. We see a blur of blue and red streak past them and enter the Zone.
Lex: “What was that? What they hell just happened?”
As he finishes his sentence, the complex is filled with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.
Fade to black.

Fast edit through several scenes from the Season 6 Episode 7 (“Signature”).

Scientist #3: “Now let me understand this. Luthor is hiring scientists, physicists, engineers and is spending billions of dollars, all to create a quantum singularity in the laboratory. What does he get out of it?”
His two companions are silent for a moment.
Scientist #1: “Does it matter?”
The other two shake their heads.
Scientist #3: “Okay. Count me in.”

The scene is back in Lionel’s office. He is looking at the document he has to sign and then he hears words from his past.
“Now is no time to get a conscience.”
He picks up the telephone and dials a number.
Lionel: “Hello, Ms. Sullivan. This is Lionel Luthor. I need to meet with you, Clark and Lana. What for? Well let’s just say that it has to do with Lex’s latest project. And I think you’re going to need someone working from the inside.

OPENING
The scene takes place at a LuthorCorp complex. The words at the bottom of the picture say
The Aleutian Islands
Near the Bering Strait
We see a technician monitoring a blip on a RADAR screen. We are inside the communications control room. There are several other technicians around him. He is dressed in a paramilitary uniform but on the arm of the outfit is a patch with the LuthorCorp insignia. Another one of the technicians is on the telephone as they watch the RADAR scope.
Lead Technician: “Yes sir. We have a bogey. It has the same RADAR signature as the bogeys we’ve seen in northern India and New Zealand.”
We now see who is at the other end of the telephone.
Lex: “Well, what is it? Is it a plane?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too small to be a plane.”
Lex: “Is it some kind of bird?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too big to be a bird?”
Lex: “Can we get some kind of visual?”
Lead Technician: “No sir. It’s too far up and it’s moving too fast. We believe it must be some type of unmanned surveillance drone. The type the military uses.
We see Lex thinking for a moment.
Lex: “Knock it out of the sky!”
Lead Technician: “Yes sir!”
The Lead Technician gets on the intercom.
Lead Technician: “Blanket the area. Bring the target down.”
The next view is of a half dozen paramilitary types running out of the building carrying shoulder held Surface to Air Missiles. They are standing in a row and aiming their weapons. We hear sound of the individual RADAR controls as they lock on to their target.
Technician on RADAR screen: “We’ve got tone.”
Lead Technician: “Fire.”
The half dozen paramilitary types fire their missiles. We see the missiles streaming up into the sky. After a few moments, the missiles disappear and then the sky is filled with a tremendous explosion. We are now in the RADAR room. The screen is clear. The Lead Technician is once again on the telephone with Lex.
Lead Technician: “Sir, the screen is clear. The target has been eliminated.
The scene ends with Lex hanging up the telephone.

Act 1 Scene 1
The scene takes place in Clark’s loft. Lionel, Chloe and Lana are present. Lionel is sitting on Clark’s sofa trying to read a magazine. But it is clear that he is nervous. Chloe is sitting at Clark’s desk punching the keys on her laptop computer. Lana is at the window looking outward. She has wrapped her arms around herself. She is deeply worried. Lionel breaks the silence.
Lionel: “How long has it been?”
Chloe: “It’s almost three hours. He’s never been gone this long before.”
Both of them look at Lana and then back at each other. Lana continues to gaze out the window. Suddenly we hear a whoosh of wind and Clark is in the loft. His clothes are in tatters. They appear to have been burned off. His hair is filled with soot and his skin is darkened with a black residue. At his arrival, Chloe and Lionel jump out of their seats in surprise. Lana runs to him and jumps in his arms.
Lana: “Clark!”
Clark: “It’s alright. It’s okay. I’m alright.”
Both Chloe and Lionel gather around the couple and examine his appearance.
Chloe: “What happened?”
Clark: “Let’s just say the folks at LuthorCorp come up short in the area of hospitality. I’ve had to jump to catch a missile before. Now I know what it’s like to outrun one.
Chloe: “They fired a missile at you?”
Clark: “Several.”
Chloe: “How does a corporation get its hands on missiles?”
Lionel: “Money is the universal language of all nations, Ms. Sullivan. In this area Lex is a linguist. They are many nations that are willing to sell anything to anyone. Price is all that matters.”
Lana finally is composed enough to pull herself away from Clark.
Lana: “Did they see you?”
Clark: “No. I was too high. They didn’t have a good fix on me. They had to blanket the area with missiles. After the first barrage, I went straight up as fast as I good.”
Lionel: “How fast is that?”
Clark: “I don’t know. But I was in outer space in two, maybe three seconds.”
Chloe look at Clark in astonishment.
Chloe: “Seconds?”
Clark nods his head in affirmation.
Lana walks away and goes back to the window.
Lana: “You’re getting faster.”
Chloe gets back on the subject of Luthor.
Chloe: “What did you find out?”
Clark: “The complex is just like the others. It’s enormous. It’s just a big power generating plant. But what is he using for fuel.”
Chloe: “I think I have the answer to that.”
Chloe goes back to her computer. Clark, Lionel and Lana are now gathered around Chloe. We have a view of a map on her computer screen. We see the screen as we hear Chloe’s voice.
Chloe: “Lex has built power generating plants at the Red Sea near Saudi Arabia, the southern tip of South America, Siberia near the Bering Strait, northern India near the Himalayas and New Zealand. All of these plants are located at or near the seams of the Tectonic Plates of the Earth’s crust.”
Clark: “The Tectonic Plates?”
Lionel: “The earth’s crust is formed of plates. When these plates move and collide with one another we have an earthquake.”
Lana: “So Lex is trying to manufacture an earthquake?”
Chloe: “I don’t think so. These seams would also be the locations one would use if you were to tap into the earth to use geothermal energy. All of these locations are connected to the main generating plant here in Smallville.”
Lana: “How can he do this without anybody noticing?”
Chloe: “The authorities have been occupied. We’ve had terrorist activity in Saudi Arabia. There’s been a revolt in Chechnya which has kept Russia occupied. There’s a revolution in Argentina. We’ve had border incidents between China and India and modern day pirates in the southern Pacific. All of this is happening at the same time that Lex is doing whatever it is he’s doing.”
Clark: “And what exactly is Lex doing?”
Lionel: “He says he’s in the process of creating a Singularity.”
Clark: “A black hole?”
Lana: “It’s not a black hole. It’s the origin of a black hole. It is a mass of zero volume but of infinite density and temperature. In a Singularity there is no such thing as space and time. This is all theoretical. No one has ever actually seen a Singularity.”
Chloe: “How would he know how to do this?”
Clark: “Maybe it isn’t Lex who knows how to do this?”
Lionel looks at Clark.
Lionel: “Zod?
Clark nods his head in affirmation.
Lionel: “It has to be something else. I’ve seen the records of the people he’s brought into the corporation. There are not only physicists and engineers but he’s brought in experts in nuclear fission.”
Clark: “I think I know where I have to go to find the answer.”
Chloe and Lionel get their things and get ready to leave.
Lionel: “I have to get back to Metropolis.”
Chloe: “I have to get back to the Daily Planet.”
They leave the loft. Clark and Lana are now alone.
Clark realizes that he is filthy.
Clark: “I should get cleaned up. I’m going to take a shower.”
He begins to walk away.
Lana: “Clark.”
He turns around.
Clark: “Yeah?”
Lana: “Would you like some company?”

Act 1: Scene 2
The scene takes place at Senate offices in Topeka. Lois Lane is hurrying down the office corridor. She hears a voice behind her.
Unidentified man: “Ms. Lane! Ms Lane!”
Lois turns around and sees a man coming towards her. He is very tall and athletically built. He is wearing a designer suit. He has dark hair and dark eyes and is very well groomed. In other words, he is the type of man that Lois would be attracted to.
Unidentified man: “You are a hard person to get a hold of.”
Lois: “And you are?”
Unidentified man: “Edmund Dermitt. I’m the lead attorney for an array of citizens’ committees that monitor all of LuthorCorp’s activities.”
Lois: “What can I do for you, Mr. Dermitt?”
Dermitt: “Edmund, please. I’ve been trying to see Senator Kent but I haven’t been able to get on her calendar. I represent a group of citizens who are very concerned with the power generating plant that has been hastily constructed in Smallville. Actually, we’re appalled at the lack of governmental scrutiny regarding its construction.”
Lois: “Senator Kent s also concerned. But right now everyone is occupied with the unprecedented crime wave that has hit Metropolis.”
Dermitt: “Oh, I understand that. Believe me. Being a resident of Metropolis I’m very aware of the danger on the streets of our city. But the group I represent has come across some information which I think the senator might find useful. Perhaps you and I can discuss it.”
Lois: “Well I’m very busy right now.”
Dermitt: “You couldn’t take the time right now for a cup of coffee?”
Lois: “I can’t. I’m already late for a meeting.”
Dermitt: “Could I interest you in having dinner with me?”
Lois is surprised but at the same time flattered at the offer.
Lois: “When?”
Dermitt: “Tonight.”
Lois: “Where?”
Dermitt: “Why don’t I meet you right here at seven.”
Lois: “It’s a date.”

Act 1: Scene 3
The scene is taking place in a diner. Chloe and Jimmy are having a cup of coffee together.
Jimmy: “So help understand something, Chloe. How is it that you have all of this eyewitness information about what’s going on in Saudi Arabia, the Himalayas and Siberia? How are you able to get this information without ever leaving the country?”
Chloe is almost at a loss as to how to respond.
Chloe: “A good reporter respects the confidentiality of her sources.”
Jimmy: “In other words, it’s none of my business.”
Chloe: “I’m just trying to protect you.”
Jimmy: “Well that’s a first.”
They both laugh at Jimmy’s last comment. They get up to leave. As they are leaving we see that there is someone at a table behind them reading a newspaper. This person is a man, tall and blonde with striking blue eyes. As Jimmy and Chloe get up to leave the diner, this person gets up, pays his bill and follows them out the door.

Act 1: Scene 4
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant in Smallville. We are inside a vast laboratory. Lex is talking to several scientists.
Lex: “When will we be ready to test this out?”
Scientist #1: “Not for another week.”
Lex: “We’ll test it tonight.”
Scientist #1: “Tonight! We’re not ready.”
Lex: “If you’ve followed my instructions, we’ll be ready. Have you followed my instructions, doctor?”
Scientist #1: “To the letter, Mr. Luthor.”
Scientist #2: “Mr. Luthor, I don’t think you understand. You’ve given us a design of a technology that has never been seen before. This needs to be studied and documented and presented to the world’s scientific community. The technology itself is groundbreaking. You may end up receiving not one Nobel Prize but several.”
Lex snaps at the group.
Lex: “I’m not interested in prizes. There are certain people who are too interested in what we are doing.”
Lex starts to walk away and then stops and turns to the group.
Lex: “We throw the switch tonight.”
End of Act 1

Act 2: Scene 1
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant. We are in the laboratory. There is an enormous amount of equipment that is being turned on. In the center is the laboratory is a containment chamber. Luthor and several scientists are standing by the chamber ready to see what will happen inside. The place resembles NASA’s Mission Control. There is a Lead Scientist who is coordinating the activity.
Lead Scientist: “Okay, we’re ready to bring the regions on line. Saudi Arabia?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have an outside view of the Saudi Arabia facility as it lights up.
Lead Scientist: “South America?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have an outside view of the South American facility as it lights up.
Lead Scientist: “Siberia?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have a close up of Lex’s face in anticipation of what is about to happen.
Lead Scientist: “India?”
Assistant: “On line.”
We have a view of surrounding scientists as they anxiously await the outcome.
Lead Scientist: “Finally, New Zealand?”
Assistant: “New Zealand is on line.”
We now have an outside view of the Smallville Plant as it is fully lit up. The close up is now on Lex.
Lead Scientist: “We are operational.”
Lex: “Throw the switch.”
An assistant at a control panel flips a small switch. The containment chamber lights up. There is something in the middle of the chamber. It’s not clear enough to see. It is surrounded by a bright aura. One of the scientists begins to speak.
Scientist: “These are not the readings I would have expected.”
Hearing this, a group of people surround him at his monitor. Lex continues to look in the chamber and a small smile begins to form on his face.
We now have a view into the chamber. There is an element beginning to take shape in the middle of chamber. The light surrounding it is beginning to dissipate and as the light dies down the image becomes clearer. The element is very small, about the size of a postage stamp. The camera focuses in on the element. We see a two dimensional rectangle that rotating end over end. A scientist comes along side of Luthor.
Scientist: “What the hell is that?”
Lex doesn’t look at him as he answers. He just smiles.
Lex: “That, my friend, is the door to a new world.”

Act 2: Scene 2
The scene takes place in the Fortress of Solitude. Clark is approaching the center of the Fortress. Jor-El’s voice emanates from the Fortress.
Jor-El: “I know why you have come, my son.”
Clark: “I need to know how Krypton was destroyed.”
A crystal comes out of the center console. Clark takes hold of it and images begin to surround him. The images depict Jor-El’s narrative of events.
Jor-El: “I had discovered the Phantom Zone. The endless, inter-dimensional void in which Zod was cast.”
Clark: “The prison I was in.”
Jor-El: “But it is more than a prison.”
Clark now has an expression of curiosity on his face.
Jor-El: “It is only a prison once it has been sealed. Opened, it is a passageway. There is another end which can also be opened.”
Clark: “A passageway to what?”
Jor-El: “It is a passageway to an alternate universe.”
Clark does not understand.
Clark: “An alternate universe?”
Jor-El: “Yes Kal-El. There is more than one reality. Occupying the same space and time can be alternate universes. Universes in different dimensions.”
Clark: “Why was Zod be interested in an alternate universe?”
Jor-El: “Zod had learned many things in his travels throughout many galaxies. He had come to learn that there are two constants in the universe – creation and destruction. He had begun to theorize that creation and destruction could be controlled by thought. He began to believe that with the right technology and the necessary amount of energy, a being would be able to create and to destroy by mere thought. A being would be able to make himself Supreme.”
Clark: “Oh my God.”
Jor-El: “Exactly. But he realized that he could not acquire enough energy in one place to accomplish this. Not until I discovered the Phantom Zone.”
Clark: “So he wanted to tap an alternate universe for energy.”
Jor-El: “But this cannot be done. Each universe has its own set of physical laws. What functions in one universe does not function in another. But Zod would not listen to reason. He convinced his followers to open the passageway, keeping both ends of the Phantom Zone open at the same time. The result was that Krypton was contaminated by energy from the alternate universe. Even though I managed to seal the passageway the damage had already been done. The subatomic particles of our planet disintegrated. Krypton was reduced to its basic elements. It was as if our planet had never existed. This process was slow but could not be stopped. It was during this time that I constructed the ship that brought you to this planet.”
Clark: “I believe Lex Luthor is trying to do this. He must have this remnant of Zod’s memory.”
Jor-El: “Kal-El you cannot let this happen. If both ends of the Phantom Zone are opened at the same time, this planet and everything on it will cease to exist.”
Clark: “He may be able to open it on this end. But how can he open it on the other end of the passageway?”
Jor-El: “If he uses the human’s primitive nuclear weapons he will open the other end. You must go into the Phantom Zone and stop the other end from being opened.”
Clark: “Go back into the Phantom Zone? I don’t think so. Father, I’ve been in there. I know what it’s like. I was in there for only a few hours but I had no idea of how much time had passed. It could have been a few seconds. It could have been a thousand years. All I knew was one thing.”
Clark stops and then says quietly and slowly.
Clark: “All I knew was agony.”
Jor-El: “My son, I will alert you when the Zone has been opened and I will direct you to the source. You must do two things. You must prevent the nuclear device from opening the other end of the Zone. Once you have done this, if you detonate the device from inside the Zone, you will seal up the first entrance and Luthor will not be able to access his Zone again. But you must make your escape before the heat of the blast reaches the entrance. If you do not do this you will be a prisoner…Forever. I will not be able to help you.”
Clark is stunned by what he has just heard.
Jor-El: “My son. You must come to the realization that all of this could have been prevented if you had completed your training. If you had come back to this Fortress of Solitude and completed your training, you would have already known all that I have told you. You would have had the capability to stop Zod before he came to earth.”
Clark: “Are you saying that this is a mess I made.”
Jor-El: “I am saying what Jonathan Kent would have told you – your actions have consequences. You must reconcile yourself to the fact that you were sent here for a reason.”
Clark: “And what is that reason?”
Jor-El: “That will be revealed to you if and when you decide to accept your rightful role in this planet’s future. The longer you delay the more perilous that future becomes.”

Act 2: Scene 3
The scene is in Chloe’s dormitory room at Metropolis University. Jimmy and Chloe are having a cup of coffee.
Jimmy: “Can I ask you a personal question?”
Chloe: “You can ask.”
Jimmy: “How much coffee do you drink a day?”
Chloe laughs at the question.
Chloe: “I stopped counting a long time ago. Now can I ask you about something?”
Jimmy: “Sure.”
Chloe: “How long have you been thinking about kissing me?”
Jimmy: “What makes you think that I am thinking that?”
Chloe: “After Lex’s case was dismissed and you went on your drinking binge, you said that you wanted to kiss me.”
Jimmy: “Yeah but I was drunk.”
Chloe looks disappointed.
Chloe: “Well that’s what a girl wants to hear.”
Jimmy now realizes his mistake.
Jimmy: “But they say that whatever is said when drunk has been thought of beforehand.”
Chloe: “So you did think about it?”
Jimmy: “Yes. I thought about it and I’m still thinking about it.”
Chloe: “Well when are you going to stop thinking and do something about it?”
Both Chloe and Jimmy start to come together.
Jimmy: “But what about Clark? How do you feel now that Clark and Lana are together?”
Chloe: “I’ll be perfectly honest with you. I’ve had somewhat else on my mind an awful lot. And that someone else isn’t Clark.”
After she says this, Chloe and Jimmy are drawn together in a long, tender kiss.

Act 2: Scene 4
The scene takes place outside of the dormitory. In a car across the street from the dormitory sits the stranger who followed Chloe and Jimmy out of the diner.

Act 3: Scene 1
The scene takes place in a restaurant in the state capital. Lois and Edmund are just finishing up dinner. It is obvious that they have had a very successful date and that they are very comfortable with one another. Edmund is watching Lois.
Edmund: “You really astonish me.”
Lois: “How so?”
Edmund: “We’ve had cocktails, a bottle of wine, and an after dinner aperitif and you don’t even look buzzed. How do you do it?”
Lois: “It must be in the military genes from my father. Besides, why are you keeping count? Is this how you usually take advantage of your dates?”
Edmund: “Not at all. It’s just rare that I find someone who is totally comfortable with themselves. It’s refreshing.”
Lois: “Now you tell me something. Ivy League schools, top of your class. Looks and personality. What ever brought you to Kansas to keep tabs on LuthorCorp?
Edmund: “It was where I thought I could do the most good. Almost like a lovely young lady working as chief of staff for a devoted senator of the people.”
Lois can’t seem to stop herself from looking at Edmund.
Lois: “I think I’d like you to meet someone.”
Edmund: “Who?”
Lois: “My cousin, Chloe.”
Edmund: “I hope you’re not thinking of setting me up.”
Lois: “Not at all. I’ve had too many bad experiences to trust my feelings about you right now but I trust Chloe’s judgment.”
Edmund: “I hope I’m up to the challenge.”

Act 3: Scene 2
Chloe and Jimmy are leaving the dormitory. They are walking hand in hand. They get in Jimmy’s car and leave the campus. The car with the stranger begins to follow them.

Act 3: Scene 3
The scene takes place at the Talon. Lana enters her apartment. She is startled when she hears a voice from behind her. It is Genevieve Teague.
Genevieve: “I have to applaud you, Lana. I raised my son to have a willpower that couldn't be broken by anything. Except his love for you, apparently.”
Lana: “What do you want from me?”
Genevieve: “The stone. That one Lionel gave you.”
Lana: “Lionel? He never gave me…”
Genevieve points a gun at Lana's face.
Genevieve: “I'm going to find it whether you help or not.”
Lana reaches into the purse and pulls out a red handkerchief. In it is one of the Stones of Knowledge.
Then Lana grips the stone tightly and kicks the gun out of Genevieve's hand. She runs toward the door but Genevieve grabs her hair, stopping her. They struggle against each other. They both fall to the floor with Genevieve above Lana. She wraps her fingers tightly around Lana's throat and chokes her.
Lana’s eyes suddenly flash a brilliant purple. Lana grabs Genevieve's arms roughly, pushing Genevieve onto the ground and kneeling over her.
The stone has fallen to the ground next to them and Lana reaches for it. It flies into her hand and she grips it with both hands and slams it down into Genevieve's chest.
Genevieve's eyes close and she dies.
Lana: “Ahhhhh!”
Lana has been sleeping and she has awakened from her nightmare. She sits up in bed and is breathing heavily. Clark sits up beside her and puts his arm around her. She buries her head in his chest.
Clark: “It’s okay. It’s just a dream.”
Lana begins to regain her composure.
Lana: “Clark, it’s not just any dream.”
Lana gets out of bed and puts her robe on.
Lana: “Clark, there’s something I haven’t told you. Something that happened before the second meteor shower.”
End of Act 3

Act 4: Scene 1
The scene is in the Kent kitchen. Both Clark and Lana are sitting at the kitchen table. They are holding hands.
Lana: “Can you forgive me? Forgive me for what I’ve done. Forgive me for not telling you?”
Clark: “Lana, it was self defense. And as far as forgiveness is concerned, you don’t need my forgiveness. You need to forgive yourself.”
He turns his head. He’s not looking her directly in the eyes.
Lana: “Clark, what’s wrong?”
Clark rises from the table and walks away from her. Then he stops and turns to face her.
Clark: “I’m really scared this time, Lana. I don’t want to go back into the Zone but I don’t know any other way.”
Lana: “I’ve never told you what it does to me each time you go out there. When you went to New Zealand and South America I was scared. But this last time when you came back the way you did. It really hit me.”
Clark: “What are you saying?”
Lana: “Clark, I wake up at night and I ask myself – why? Why does it have to be you? Why does it have to be me? Why does it have to be us? I just want a normal life. A normal life with us together. Is that too much to ask? If it’s not Jor-El it’s Lex. If it’s not Lex, it will be who knows what. Why does it have to be this way?”
Clark walks to Lana and put his arms around her.
Clark: “I don’t know.”
He picks up her head and looks her in the eyes.
Clark: “Tell me the truth. Do you want out?”
There is a moment of silence before she answers.
Lana: “Never.”

Act 4: Scene 2
The scene takes place at the LuthorCorp Power Generating Plant in Smallville. Once again we are in the large laboratory. It is readying itself to open the Phantom Zone. But this time at one end of the laboratory is a platform holding a missile. Lex walks in with his entourage of scientists.
Scientist #1: “What are we doing with a missile?”
Lex: “We are going to open the other side of the Zone?”
Scientist #1: “How?”
Lex: “A small nuclear payload ought to do the trick.”
Scientist: “Nuclear! You have a nuclear bomb! You’re going to kill us all.”
Lex grabs the scientist by his lab coat.
Lex: “I’m not going to kill anything. We are at one end of the Zone. At the other end is another universe. We are going to poke a hole into that universe. That’s all.”
Scientist #2: “How do you know this? Maybe the missile will go through the Zone and slammed into the end of this building, setting off the warhead.”
Lex: “Doctor, if you’re too scared of the challenge. You can leave. Of course, if what you say is true you’ll never get far enough away from here to survive the blast.”
Lex walks away from the entourage and starts barking orders.
Lex: “Bring the Zone on line.”
The operations crew goes through their countdown and flips the switch. The Zone opens up. This time it is outside of the containment chamber and it is much larger. It size fills a wall. Everyone except Lex is paralyzed with the fascination of watching it.
Lex: “Open up the Zone.”
The operations people go through another set of predetermined steps and the Zone opens up. It is no longer rotating. It is vibrating back and forth from within and changing colors.
Lex: “Begin the countdown for missile launch.”

Act 4: Scene 3
The scene is in the Kent kitchen. Suddenly Clark hears a buzzing sound in his ears.
Clark: “It’s happening. Jor-El is sending me his signal.”
He leaves Lana and speeds upstairs. In a moment he comes back down out of his robe and dressed in a blue jacket, red shirt and blue jeans. Lana is in distress as she sees him. They rush to one another and kissed one another as if this is going to be the last time they will see one another. Both of them are scared.
Clark: “I have to go.”
Lana is having difficulty letting him go. Finally she does.
Lana: “Clark, come back to me.”

Act 4: Scene 4
Back at the LuthorCorp complex. The countdown is continuing.
Technician: “Five…four…three…two…one…launch.”
The technician presses the launch button. The missile fires up from behind. The flames from its engines are contained by the blast shield behind it. The missile then shoots forward across the laboratory and into the Zone. It disappears. Everyone is standing in astonishment at what they have just seen. There is a smile on Lex’s face as he is waiting for something to happen.

It is an aerial view of the LuthorCorp complex. It is from Clark’s point of view. The complex is getting closer and closer.

Act 4: Scene 6
The scene is in the LuthorCorp complex. As Lex and the scientist are waiting, there is an explosion through the wall behind them as if something has shot its way through. We see a blur of blue and red streak past them and enter the Zone.
Lex: “What was that? What they hell just happened?”
As he finishes his sentence, the complex is filled with a shrieking sound and a blinding bright light.
Fade to black.
