Weddings Change Everything

I know some of you may want to slap me for starting yet another fic without finishing my other ones…but I actually have this entire one written out, so I won’t stop mid-story. So if anyone is actually willing to read…here it is. It’s a pretty short story. And it may be boring at the start but...

Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Clois in the beginning, Clana later.

Summary: The year is 2011. Everything happened in the show up until Vengeance. Lex and Lana were never together and Lana moved away from Smallville to attend the Art Institute of California in San Diego, majoring in fashion design. She still resides there now. Clark moved to Metropolis and works at the Daily Planet alongside Lois and Chloe; he currently isn’t Superman. Clark and Lana are friends and still keep in touch and Clark and Lois are engaged.

<Chapter One>

“Hey, Lois!” Clark called from the kitchen in his large penthouse apartment. “I need help with the guest list!”

Lois came in and kissed Clark on the cheek before sitting down close to him. “Okay, so what do you need help with?”

“I need help with the list.” Clark and Lois read the paper.

“We’re done with it. Everybody’s there.” Lois told him after a few minutes of reading.

Clark shook his head, ‘no’, and stood up, walking over to the phone. “Not everyone.”

Lois looked at him, trying to think about who it is. She shrugged it off and went over to the refrigerator, getting herself some orange juice.

“Hello?” The person on the other line answered.

Clark cleared his throat before speaking, “Hi, Lana. It’s me, Clark.”

“Hey, Clark. Is there something you need?” Lana asked, coolly.

“Yeah, uh…I’d like to invite you to my wedding.”

Lana quickly changed from nice to bumbling. Her eyes widened. “W-wedding? When?”

Clark smiled over the phone. “It’s set for November twenty-fourth. Can you make it?”

Lana was still slightly shocked but managed not to stumble over her words, “Yes, I can make it. Is it okay if I come a few days earlier than that?”

“Of course.”

“Clark?”

“Yeah?”

“Who are you marrying?”

Clark smiled thoughtfully, “Lois.”

“Oh…” Lana said, a trace of sadness hidden in her voice. “Figures.” She muttered.

Clark heard her and couldn’t help but be a little confused. “What?”

“Oh, nothing. I have to go Clark, bye.”

“Bye.” Clark hung up the phone and turned around to Lois.

“So you invited Lana…” Lois asked tilting her head.

“And? Should I un-invite her?” Clark asked jokingly.

“No. I’m just a little surprised.” Lois said truthfully, edging closer to him.

“Oh, good.” Clark stepped nearer to her and she put her arms around his neck. They both grinned going into the kiss, stopping nearly ten minutes later.

***3 Months Later---November 13th***

Clark and Lois are lying in bed; it’s eight thirty in the morning. Clark’s alarm just went off, and he turned on snooze for Lois. When he stood up Lois tugged on his arm.

“Just sleep in, for today.” Lois suggested, her eyes still closed.

“I can’t. Lana’s supposed to be coming today.”

Lois’ eyes finally came open. “Alright, fine.” She said in an irritated tone.

“Lois.” Clark rolled his eyes. “I love you, but you can be really annoying sometimes.”

Lois rolled her eyes back at him, “I’m not annoying. Anyway, how do you even know if she’s there yet?”

“I don’t. But I’ll wait for her.”

When i read that there was going to be Clois i was like "Ok, it's all good. As long as there isnt lexana" but then the unthinkable happened!!

They both grinned going into the kiss, stopping nearly ten minutes later.

<Chapter Two>

Clark sat, waiting, by the baggage claim for Lana. He waited for two and a half hours before she arrived. He didn’t see her yet, and was unaware of her observing him.

‘He looks so different now.’ Lana easily noticed the difference in his hair, clothing, and physique than before. ‘Clark looks…older, I guess, more mature. His hair is short and he looks like he’s in better shape. Can’t say I’m complaining. Whoa, wait, did I just think that?’

While Lana was going over Clark’s appearance in her head, she didn’t realize he was standing right in front of her.

“Lana?” He tapped her on the shoulder. She snapped out of it, instantly.

“Hey.” Lana said, she put her bags down and greeted him with a friendly hug.

“Hey.” Clark told her once he pulled away from the hug. “Was your flight okay?” He asked, picking up her bags.

“It was nice. Wait, I’ll carry them, Clark.”

“No, I insist. You must be tired from the plane ride.”

“Well…since you insisted…thanks.” Lana smiled at him.

“Your welcome.” Clark grinned and licked his lips. He motioned for the door. “Come on.”

*An hour later at Clark’s apartment. *

“Sorry, Lana, I didn’t think the hotels around here would be booked.”

“It’s fine, really.”

“I’d let you take the bed, but I don’t think that would be okay with Lois.”

Lana chuckled. “I understand. This couch is very comfortable.”

Clark sighed and scratched his head. “So what can I do for you?”

“Believe me, Clark, you’ve done more than enough already.”

“I couldn’t even book you a hotel. I’ll take you out to eat.”

Lana shifted uncomfortably.

“What? Oh, I didn’t mean, like a date or anything. I was thinking Lois and Chloe could come with us so we could talk and stuff…”

“That sounds fun.” Lois answered from right behind him.

Clark turned around, “Hey, Lois.” He gave her a short kiss on the lips. Lana felt even more uncomfortable.

“I should uh…unpack.” Lana walked toward her bags.

“Alright. Just um…tell me when you want to go eat and we’ll go.” Clark told her.

“I’ll do that.” Lana let out a weak smile. Clark noticed her change in demeanor but followed Lois up to their room anyway. Once they were upstairs Lois got into the shower. Clark left the room and started down the short set of stairs, but stopped when he heard Lana’s voice. He stood behind the corner listening.

“I know, Chloe…but I thought it would be easier to see them like, well ‘that’.”

‘What?’ Clark didn’t know if he should just walk away or not, but he needed to know what else Lana had on her mind.

“Yea, I guess…well those feelings are gone and they aren’t coming back so why do I feel so weird whenever she is there.” Lana sighed and shook her head. “I’ll see you later, Chloe. Actually, can you come over here around six? …We are all going out for dinner…good, bye.”

Clark was frozen. He just stood there leaning against the wall. “Maybe I shouldn’t have…”

“Shouldn’t have what?” Lana asked, climbing the stairs.

“Huh? Nothing. So, are you done packing?”

Lana nodded. “So what can we do now?”

“There’s not much to do. Do you want to watch a movie?

“Sure.”

Clark and Lana sat down on the couch and eventually chose to watch Spiderman 2 on DVD. They were able to watch that movie uninterrupted before Lois came downstairs.

“What are you guys watching?” Lois asked, sitting down next to Clark.

“We just finished watching Spiderman 2.” Lana answered.

“I liked the first one better.” Lois said. “So what do you two want to watch now?”

“Actually, I thought I’d go take a walk.” Lana stood up and headed for the door.

“By yourself?” Clark asked her, now standing up.

“I guess so.”

“I don’t mean to sound overprotective, but I don’t think it’s such a good idea.”

“She’s a grown woman Clark, let her do what she wants.” Lois butted in.

Lana yawned, “Maybe it’s not such a good idea. Uh…Clark. Can you show me to the other rooms in the house? I’ve only been acquainted with the kitchen and living room.”

“No problem.” He led Lana up the stairs to their office, “This is where I’ve spent countless hours on articles for Perry.” He walked out of the room, “This, is the bathroom. Nothing fancy.” He gave a crooked smile. Clark then, led her into his bedroom and showed her his gigantic king-sized bed that had an elegant frame wrapped around it. The sheets are piled onto it and fluffed. Clark extended his arms out, and spun around, “This is it. Oh, that’s the closet.” He walked over to it. “Here is my half.”

“I see you have a completely new wardrobe.”

“Yep. I guess I matured from my old clothes.” He slipped his hands in his jean pockets.

“I miss your old jeans.” Lana told him, still going through his closet.

“Why?”

“They were tighter.” She grinned.

Clark took his hands out of his pockets. “That’s what Lois said.”

Lana’s smile faded. “Oh…”

An awkward silence followed.

“So…that’s pretty much it. Our apartment.”

“I guess so. It’s better than mine.”

“It usually doesn’t look this nice, I cleaned it up so you wouldn’t be disgusted.”

Lana laughed a little bit; when her laugh faded they just looked at each other for a while.

Clark coughed. “So…I’m sorry I haven’t called you in a while. It’s been hectic.”

“I can imagine.” Lana said thoughtfully.

“I’ve been meaning to ask you how you’ve been.”

“I’ve been doing great. My career in fashion has been going well.”

“Good.” Clark told her with a tip of his head.

“How has your job at the Daily Planet been going?”

“I love it. I’m making a good income and it’s fun for me to be working alongside Chloe and Lois. I really never thought that this would end up being my job…or that I’d end up marrying Lois.”

“Me neither, I never thought life would turn out this way.”

“Um…is there any lucky guy in your life?”

“I had one boyfriend but it didn’t last long.”

“Do you mind me asking why?” Clark asked, now sitting on the bed.

Lana shook her head, “I just can’t find the right one.”

Clark looked at her, showing understanding in his eyes.

Aw come on. Clark and Lana MUST be together. Or else I may just have to round up that angry mob again and pull out my lethal stapler.

I liked it....but yea I agree with Linn on that one. I don't like 2012 ethier......other than that, your doing a super job;)

Nice job with the Clana:Djust try not to end the story too quickly.....and (you don't have to do this...but my advice) try not to make too many stories at once (believe me...I've tried it)

So basically Lana left after telling Clark she needed a break from 'them' so basically... the crap from the show never happened so they aren't as bad in a situation as on the show... cool!!

Means it will be easier to get the clana back ;)

Here's a short update for today.

<Chapter Three>

An hour or two later Clark, Lois, and Lana decided to sit in the kitchen and talk about how life’s been going some more.

Then Lana heard a knock on the door, “I’ll get that.”

She went over to the door and answered it. She saw Chloe, they both squealed extremely loud, causing Clark to yelp because his super hearing was on, listening to them. They both turned their heads towards Clark.

“Are you all right?”

“Uh huh. I’m super.” He answered, still holding his index and middle fingers to his head.

Chloe and Lana both made their way upstairs to where Clark and Lois were.

“Are we all ready to go?” Chloe asked.

Everyone nodded in agreement and they all walked together outside.

“Do we need to take a car?” Clark asked. He pointed to his Lincoln Zephyr.

Lana looked at the white sedan and back at Clark. “Wow. Nice car, Clark.”

“I liked my old red truck better.” Everyone snickered. “What? It was a good car.”

Lois went on to tell everyone, “We don’t need a car though. The place is right down the street.” She started walking alongside Clark. They were all making pleasant small talk, until Lois snaked her arm around Clark’s waist. He then put his arm around her shoulder. Lana looked at them, made a face, and looked straight ahead. Chloe caught sight of this and pulled her to the side.

She whispered in Lana’s ear, “What’s going on? You told me there weren’t any feelings left for our favorite farm boy.”

“There weren't.” Lana said calmly.

“OK, I was just making sure.”

They walked into the restaurant and chose to sit in a booth. Clark sat on the outside, next to Lois and in front of Lana. Chloe sat on the inside in front of Lois.

The waiter came; he was checking Lana out while taking all of their orders. She shrugged it off and continued the small talk with everyone else. Clark put his arm around Lois as they talked, serving as an irritating distraction for Lana. The waiter came back with Clark, Lana, Chloe, and Lois’ food. After he laid the plates on the table he kneeled down next to Lana. Clark watched intently, while sipping his water.

“So…do you want to go out sometime?” The waiter that resembled Ryan Seacrest asked her.

Lana tucked her hair behind her ear, “I’m sorry. But no.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m positive.”

“Come on. Please?” He begged, looking shortly at a group of guys behind him.

“No!” Lana firmly stated.

“Fine. You’ll regret this.” He looked at everyone sitting at the table, but was very intimidated once he saw Clark eyeing him angrily. He swallowed hard before walking away. The waiter’s friends were standing right there and laughed at him. The Ryan Seacrest look-alike glared at Lana before going into the back room.

“I don’t know what it is with the waiters in Metropolis. Don’t worry about him Lana. He won’t do anything to you.”

Lana nodded.

Later the same waiter came back. “Does anyone need anything?” He asked politely, with the manager standing behind him, who witnessed his behavior. Everyone asked for refills and that’s what he gave them, adding something extra to Lana’s drink.



***Later, back at the house***

Everyone said their goodbyes to Chloe and went up the stairs when Lana stumbled and grabbed her stomach in pain.

Clark immediately dove and caught her, landing on his back with her on top of him. He lingered for a moment, brushing Lana’s hair off of her face. He instantly realized Lois was watching them with her arms crossed so he got up, picking Lana up with him. He was basically cradling her in his arms when Lois walked up closer.

“Is she OK?” Lois asked, agitation hidden through out her voice.

Lana’s stomach churned and she finally threw up…right on Lois. Lois’ mouth fell open and she closed her eyes, opening them while walking up the stairs. “I guess not.” She muttered, angrily.

“Oh, god.” Clark said. He carried Lana over to the couch. When he was sure she was out he super sped around getting a bucket, and a damp warm cloth for her. He cleaned her up and put the bucket next to her. Clark got a blanket and spread it out over her.

“Feel better, Lana.” He whispered. Clark walked over to her and kissed her on the forehead before turning the light off and going upstairs.

Lana opened her eyes and smiled, “I will.”

<Chapter Four>

Clark checked on Lois upstairs, she was in the shower. Around half an hour later Lois came out and glared at Clark.

“Sorry, Lois. How was I supposed to know she was going to puke on you?”

“She probably did it on purpose.” Lois told him, standing in a slightly aggressive stance.

“She did not.” Clark said getting up off of the bed he was sitting on. “What makes you think that, anyway?”

“Maybe she’s jealous, Clark.”

Clark laughed, not believing her. “No she’s not. We’re friends.”

“She’s your ex!”

“So what?!” Clark shouted.

They both calmed down, well, Clark did anyway.

Clark exhaled loudly. “Listen Lois, I think you’re reading too much into this.”

“I’m not.” Lois sighed. “Actually, I really don’t want to talk about your ex-girlfriend anymore, Clark.”

Clark didn’t respond.

“Let’s just go to bed.” Lois crawled under the covers.

“Yeah.” Clark replied running his hands through his hair.

Early the next morning Clark woke up to find Lana still asleep with a mess all over the floor next to the bucket he left for her. Clark sighed and cleaned up the floor. He sat down next to her and stroked her forehead. Her eyelids slowly came open and she looked at him.

“Clark?”

He tore his hand away. “It’s me. I just came to make sure you are okay.”

“I have a stomach ache.” She told him, holding her stomach.

“I’ll get you some Pepto Bismol. Okay?”

“No thanks. That stuff sucks. Do you have anything else?”

“I’m sorry, no.”

Lana yawned. “Then I’ll take the Pepto.”

Clark retrieved the pink medicine and gave some to Lana. She felt a little better in around thirty minutes.

Lana stood up, “I’m going to get something to drink.”

“I’ll get it for you.” Clark walked into the kitchen and got some iced tea for Lana. “Here you go.”

“Thanks, Clark.”

“Your welcome.” Clark plopped down on the couch next to her. He was silent for a few minutes.

“Clark?”

He shifted his position so he was facing her. “What?”

“I’m not complaining, because I love your company…but shouldn’t you be spending time with Lois? Your wedding is in 10 days…”

“I know. But…I never get to see you…I kind of want to make up for it.” Clark paused. “I missed you.”

“I missed you, too. I don’t want to throw up on you, like I did on Lois.”

“I’ve had worse. I’m not leaving you here with you feeling bad. You’ll get bored.”

“I appreciate…” Lana stopped and put her hand up to her mouth. “I think I need that bucket now.”

Clark hurriedly picked the container up and placed it on the side, he held her hair up while she threw up. When she came back up to face level with Clark he smiled sympathetically.

“Now my head hurts. Ugh.” Lana held her hand up to her forehead.

“I’ll run down to the store and get you some Tylenol.”

“Let me come. I want to go out side.”

“Uh…I don't think you should."

"Please?" Lana pouted.

Clark chuckled, "I can't turn you down with that face."

They walked down the street past the restaurant they were at earlier and saw the waiter that served them. He walked past Lana and said, “Hey, feelin’ sick?” He then started laughing. “Serves you right. Embarrassing me in front of my boys.” He laughed again.

Clark smirked and shook his head and then went after the waiter and tightly gripped his shoulder.

“Ow! Dude! Get off!” The guy screamed.

“Did you do something to make her sick?” Clark asked him.

“No! Just get off me!” He yelled.

“Just tell me the truth and I'll let go."

“I…I…” The waiter twisted and punched Clark in the face, nearly breaking his own knuckle. “What the hell?!” He held his knuckle tight and ran off.

“Clark! Are you okay?”

“I’m fine."

"You didn't have to do anything..."

"I know. I just got a little ticked off. Want to leave?"

"Uh huh."

They kept on walking.

Great update!! I loved it!! He should hurt the waiter tho. What an a$$!! Hopefully Clark will quit being dumb and be with Lana. PPMS!

She would have done some Lana-fu but she was still feeling a bit under the weather. :) Here is the next update.

<Chapter Five> (This one’s kind of a filler.)

Clark has been spending nearly every day with Lana. It is the 18th now and Clark and Lana are playing cards with Chloe. Lana’s not that sick anymore. Clark and Lana are sitting next to each other on the couch, in front of the coffee table while Chloe has a chair pulled up to the other side, her back is facing the stairs.

“I won again. You girls are terrible at blackjack.” Clark told them shuffling the deck again.

“You keep cheating. You get 21 almost every time…it’s like you can see the next card every time before you pick it up!”

Clark grinned. “You cheated at poker.”

“No I didn’t.” Lana shoved him.

“Yes you did! You put the ace on top for yourself! I saw it!”

“I did not!” Lana flipped her hair in his face.

Clark nudged her with his elbow, and then Lana kicked him.

“Ouch! I can’t play cards with you people!” Clark threw down his hand of cards and stood up.

“I didn’t even do anything!” Chloe threw her cards at Clark. Clark picked a handful up and tossed it at Chloe, Lana picked up the entire deck and threw it at the both of them. Then Chloe and Clark said in unison, “You’re cleaning that up.”

“Um…last one upstairs has to clean it up.” Lana suggested. She ran ahead of everyone but Chloe tripped Clark and he stumbled onto the top stair where Lana tripped over him onto the hardwood floor. Clark and Lana shouted, “Chloe!” Then she ran upstairs. “You both clean it up. I’m going to go see what Lois is doing.” Chloe told them.

Clark started picking up the cards while Lana threw more at him. “Lana…” Clark whined. When her back was turned he playfully pushed her and she fell onto the couch. Lana smiled at him, when he looked back at her she slapped him on the shoulder. He picked up the rest of the cards and put them on the table.

“Let’s go upstairs.” Clark turned around.

“My legs hurt.” Lana jumped on Clark’s back.

Clark laughed and placed his hands behind her knees and carried her upstairs. He set her down once they got up there. They stopped outside of the door when they heard Lois and Chloe talking.

“Clark, let’s go.”

“No, I want to listen.”

“Everyone around here eavesdrops.”

Clark looked at her, “You do, too. Come on, just listen.”

They both huddled outside of the door.

“Chloe, I don’t think that is a very good idea.”

“Come on, Lo. Please, for me? Lana is my best friend.”

“It’s my wedding.”

“Lois. Since when were you so picky?”

“I’m not…" She rolled her eyes. "Fine. She can be one of my bridesmaids.”

“Good.”

Clark and Lana looked at each other before turning back to the door. It opened and they fell…in what some people would say, a ‘suggestive position’. They both turned red and Clark jumped up.

“Hey, you guys.” Clark said, helping Lana up off of the carpeted floor.

Lois crossed her arms and glared at Lana, then Clark. She left the room. Chloe, Clark, and Lana all exchanged glances. Clark smiled uneasily before heading out after Lois.

“What just happened?” Chloe asked, turning to Lana.

Lana shrugged.

“Lois!” Clark lightly turned her around by her arm.

“What?” Lois snapped.

Clark wasn't sure what to say…he paused. “I’m sorry.”

“For what? Paying more attention to her than your future wife?”

“No…I mean yes! Yes!” He chased Lois down the stairs. “Lois! Please, hold on!”

Lois halted and faced Clark.

“Lo, please be more forgiving for me. You know how dumb I can be sometimes…the thing at the door was an accident.”

“And how did that accident happen?”

“We...we were listening in on your conversation and when you opened the door we fell in, it just happened to be in that ‘way’. Listen, there is nothing going on between me and Lana.”

“All right. I believe you.” Lois gave him a half smile and leaned forward to kiss him, Clark gave her a hesitant short kiss back. He needed some time to think about things.

<Chapter Six> (Pt. 1 of 2)

It was midnight; Clark was sitting on a park bench staring at the full moon thinking things over. In less than a week, I’ll be married to Lois and I’m going to spend the rest of my life with her. Clark thought. He exhaled sharply and ruffled through his hair. He stood up and paced back and forth with his arms crossed. No. I can’t have cold feet. I can’t do that to Lois, how am I even considering doing that to her?

**At the Apartment**

Lana was walking with a plate filled with food and a drink when Lois went past her and ‘accidentally’ knocked it out of Lana’s hands and onto the hardwood floor, shattering all of the glass.

“Oops. Sorry about that, Lana.” Lois said, walking away. Lana stood and stared angrily at Lois before kneeling down and picking everything up. Lana cut herself on a shard of glass, “Ow!” She shrieked. “Lois is such a-“

“I’m a what?” Lois asked, crossing her arms.

Lana stood up and was ready to say some things, and maybe even smack someone…but held herself back with fear of Clark coming in and seeing it. Lana turned around and muttered, “You are so lucky you are with Clark right now.”

“I know I am.” Lois snapped, surprising Lana. “Oh yea, as you already know Chloe wanted you to be one of my bridesmaids. You can get the extra dress from her.” She turned around and went up the stairs to her and Clark’s office.

Lana shook her head and cleaned up the rest of the mess.

Clark finished going over his feelings and life in his head and walked back home. He went through the door and over to the living room.

“Hey, Clark. Where have you been?”

“I was just…um…clearing my head.”

“Thinking about the wedding, huh?” Lana asked, smiling.

“Yep.” Clark sat down next to Lana on the couch. “It’s pretty scary. Weddings, I mean.”

“I guess I’ll find out one day.” Lana breathed.

“Have anyone in mind to find out with?” Clark asked, turning his body towards her.

“Haven’t really thought about it.” She lied.

“Ever?” Clark asked raising an eyebrow.

“I meant not lately.” Lana said shifting to face Clark.

I think they should get caught in the moment and kiss, and have lois see them... and clark have to try and talk to her...

and successfully persuade her back only to get caught again

I know, I was thinking about doing that. But I wanted Clark to show as much restraint as possible even if he doesn't realize that he flirts with Lana sometimes. Thanks though deanyouk. :)

<Chapter Six> (Pt. 2 of 2)

A half smile formed across Clark’s face. “Can I ask why?” His eyes were practically sparkling.

Lana laughed quietly. “I haven’t thought about it . . .because …do you want the truth?”

“Yes.”

Lana looked into Clark’s eyes. “Because of your wedding with Lois.”

“What?” Clark asked, resting his arm on the top of the couch.

“I…I just… haven’t had time to think of my own with yours going on, that’s all.” Lana told him. Nice save, Lana.

“Of course.” Clark replied, skeptically. He coughed. “I should um, get to bed. Good night.” He left for his room.

“Good night.” Lana fell asleep after a few minutes with her eyes closed.

The next morning, Clark woke up at ten o’clock since he fell asleep so late. Neither Lana, nor Lois were awake yet so he made pancakes for them. Some time later Lois made her way into the kitchen with fuzzy bunny slippers and a light blue robe.

“Hungry?” Clark asked lifting a plate with a small stack of five pancakes.

“Very.” She sat down at the table and a sleepy Lana walked into the kitchen.

“Hey, Lana. Want something to eat?”

“Sure.” She sat down across from Lois. Their eyes met and Lois shot her a mean look. Clark looked between them and just figured they were just tired and grumpy. He placed the stack of pancakes in the middle of the table.

“I’ll be back in a minute, I’m going to go change.” Clark ran up to his room.

Lois stabbed her fork into the pancakes and put them on her plate. Lana took the syrup out of the fridge and Lois ripped it from her hand.

“That’s mine.” Lois barked.

Lana shook her head in annoyance. She stood up and picked up another syrup bottle. Lois tried to take it but Lana pulled it back.

“This is Clark’s, and I’m sure he won’t mind if I have some of his syrup.”

Lois scoffed, and took another huge bite of her pancake.

Lana ate her pancakes glaring at Lois the entire time she was eating. Lois and Lana finished at the same time, there was one pancake left. Lana was about to take it but Lois stabbed her fork into it before her.

“Too slow.” Lois said cutting the pancake.

“Cow.” Lana muttered, leaning back in her seat.

“Excuse me?” Lois asked with her mouth full, raising her eyebrows. “This is my house and I can kick you out any time I want.”

“I doubt that would sit well with Clark.” Lana crossed her arms.

“I’m sure I could convince him.” Lois smirked.

“I think I’m feeling sick again.”

“Keep thinking those thoughts because Clark and I have had some very fun nights together.” She lied.

Lana’s expression turned from one of annoyance and slight anger to disgust. Clark came in after Lois said that and sat down between the girls in a cheerful mood.

Clark looked at the empty plate. “Guess I have to make some more.” Clark came back to the table a little bit later with five more pancakes. He cut them up for himself when Lois took a piece and fed him. Lana rolled her eyes and looked away but not for long. Her eyes found their way back to Clark. Lois leaned in towards Clark for a deep kiss, which he half-heartedly returned…but Lana didn’t know that. She hastily stood up from the table and left.

Clark broke away from the kiss and watched Lana leave. “Lana!”

“Clark.” Lois tipped his head to face her. “Who’s more important? Lana or me?”

“My future wife.” He smiled at her before standing up. “I’m going to go…do that article now.”

“I should clean up, then.” Lois walked around the kitchen making everything spotless.

Lana came back an hour later.

Clark walked up to her. “Lana, did something happen between you and Lois?”

“No.” She replied taking her jacket off.

“If she’s bothering you then I can talk to her about it.”

“There’s no need for that, Clark.”

“So she has been bothering you?”

“A little. But it’s no big deal.” Lana saw out of the corner of her eye that Lois was mouthing, ‘shut up’.

“Okay. I have to go get some groceries.” Clark left and Lana went upstairs into Clark and Lois’ office. She went on the laptop.

Lois went up to the bedroom and got dressed into a tight white t-shirt and jeans. She went into the office where Lana was.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“I’m on the computer…if you need me to get off I will.”

“Then get off.”

Lana stood up and faced Lois. “What is your problem?”

“You.”

“And what have I done to you?” Lana asked.

“You came back. Everyone was perfectly happy but then you had to come back and ruin everything.”

“I didn’t ruin anything. If anyone ruined anything, it's you.” Lana retorted.

"And what did I ruin?"

"Everything."

Lois stepped up and got in Lana’s face. She shoved her and Lana shoved her back, pushing her away a little. Conveniently, Clark walked up the stairs and turned his head to the room. He saw them pushing each other and ran up to Lois and Lana and held his arms up stopping them from doing anything.

“Hey! Stop!” He got in between them. “What is going on between you two?!” He asked, looking back and forth between the two girls. He turned to Lana.

“I thought I told you if anything was happening to call me.” He said, with a soft tone of voice.

“It just happened quickly.”

“What happened? Can one of you fill me in?” He pleaded, now letting his arms fall to his sides.

Lois and Lana both walked away form him. He looked after them and clenched his jaw; he finally decided to leave them alone for now.

<Chapter Seven> (It’s a really short chapter, but if I get around five replies, I’ll post the next chapter.)

The rest of the day consisted of everyone avoiding each other, until they got to the dinner table. Clark sat in between Lois and Lana again. Lois cooked.

Lana cautiously took a bite of Lois’ meatloaf. She made a sour face and spit the food back out in a bunch of several napkins.

Clark looked at Lois and slowly brought the meatloaf up to his lips. It smelled like rotten fish and pickle juice. Clark took a bite, and even though he felt like he was going to throw up he kept chewing. He finally swallowed it, but couldn’t take the bitter taste anymore. Clark stood up and rushed over to the refrigerator and drank out of the orange juice carton.

Lana laughed and forked around her plate for something edible. She tried the potatoes; they tasted exactly like the meatloaf. She spit it back out into yet another napkin and stood up. “I think that’s a good idea.” She went over to Clark. “Can I have some orange juice, please?”

“Yeah. Want a cup?” Before he could finish asking, Lana took it out of his hands and cleansed her mouth of Lois’ disgusting potatoes.

“Thanks.” She placed it back into his hands. “I’m going to go out and eat.”

“I think that’s a good idea.” Clark and Lana walked outside of the door and Clark went ahead of her to the car. Lana heard Lois yell Clark’s name and chuckled to herself.

Clark and Lana drove to a nice new Chinese restaurant and were already parked in the parking lot. Clark smacked his head. “I forgot all about Lois!” He put the keys in the ignition.

“Why’d you have to remember?” Lana asked herself; not realizing it was out loud.

Clark turned to her, “What? Okay, there’s something going on between you two that I don’t know about. Care to tell me?” He took the keys out of the ignition.

“I can’t stand her.” Lana said, truthfully.

“Why? What has she ever done to you?”

Lana smirked, “Oh nothing. She’s perfectly nice to me.”

“Lana –“

“Clark it’s not a big deal.”

“I’m going to talk to her about it.” He said, placing his hand on hers.

Lana instantly felt butterflies, and felt ridiculous for it. He’s touched her hand dozens of times but this time was different; she felt like she was in high school again.

he just doesn't want to believe it. He's been with Lois a long time, and she's never been that mean to anyone. He just wants to make sure that she's acting that bad towards Lana. Clark's already seen some of it but hasn't seen the worst of it.

I'm not sure this is a good chapter...but bare with me, my life at home is pretty rough right now, and if the chapter sucks don't be afraid to say it. I need to know. Well here it is, sorry for the wait. I split it into two udpates so I can finish up the second half which is about half done.

<Chapter Eight Pt. One>

Lana looked down at her hand that Clark was holding. He assumed that she felt uncomfortable and tore his hand away. He got out of the car and opened the door for her. They ate their dinners fairly quickly, but talked for a while. Clark and Lana were out an hour and a half later.

Clark started the car. “Uh…Lana, do you mind if I just drop you off at the house?”

“Why?” She asked, putting her seatbelt on.

“I need to do some last minute shopping…”

“For your wedding?”

“Uh huh.” He pulled out of the parking lot. “I need to get my tux.”

“Can I come? Just to give you some advice…”

“I’d like that.” He smiled before continuing on to his destination.

Once they were there, Lana quickly found a tux that she thought would look amazing on him. She chose a single-breasted White Vanguard Jacket, with a white laydown collared shirt, white tie, and a white full back satin vest and tie. Clark hesitantly tried it on and came back out. He stood in front of the mirror, not liking all the white.

“Lana…this is nice…but I don’t really like it.”

“I think you look se-…” Lana cleared her throat. “Handsome, but it is your wedding so why don’t you choose the next one?”

“I’ll try to find a good one.” Clark browsed around for the next half hour and found a tux that he liked. It had a White Shawl Jacket, a white wingtip shirt, black bowtie, and a Mell Howard black matte satin vest.

It was comfortable for Clark and he liked it a lot. He came out and strutted in front of the mirror. Lana’s mouth dropped open at the sight of him. He looked even more gorgeous than normal in his formal wear. Clark stopped admiring the suit in the mirror and went up to Lana.

“What do you think?” He asked.

“I uh…wow.” She looked him up and down until her eyes fixated on his face.

Clark beamed. “So that’s a yes on this one?”

Lana nodded.

Clark paid for the suit and they made their way back to the apartment. Clark walked in before Lana to see Lois standing there.

“It was nice of you two to run out on my dinner.”

“Sorry, Lois. It tasted…well, really bad.”

“I know.” She crossed her arms. “You could have at least taken me along with you.”

“Sorry…but I just…well I forgot…”

“About me? Is Lana really preoccupying your thoughts that much, you forget about your own girlfriend?”

Clark sorted through his thoughts, trying to find something to say with out sounding like a jerk or an idiot.

Lana noticed Clark struggling to find something to say and decided to step up. “It’s not his fault, it’s mine okay?”

“I’m sure it is.” Lois muttered. “But, yea. It’s okay.” She announced in a louder tone. Lois then went up to Clark and slid her arm through his. He pulled away and turned away from Lana and Lois, leaving them both confused.

“Clark?” Lois asked. She dragged him out of the room, away from Lana. “Clark? What’s wrong with you?” She paused, and then smirked. “It’s Lana isn’t it?”

“No. It’s not Lana. I just need more time to think about things.” Clark looked down at the marble floor beneath him.

“What is so important that you need to think over, Clark?!” Lois asked in an exasperated tone.

Clark looked up at her, with an almost guilty expression. “I’ll talk to you later.” He said softly. Clark leaned in to kiss her on the cheek but she tilted her head away from him.

“Am I one of the things you are rethinking?” Lois tilted her head back towards him.

Clark looked into her eyes. “I’m not rethinking anything. I just need time to make sure of some things.”

“And those things are?”

Clark didn’t respond for almost a minute. “I’ll talk to you later, Lois.” He walked out of the door and hurriedly found his way out of the extremely large building he resides in. Lana watched him hurry away and turned to Lois.

“So what did you say to him to make him leave?” Lana asked.

Lois turned her back to Lana and wiped her face. She rushed past Lana and said, “Shut up, Lana.”

She turned to Lois. “What does he need to think about? Is that why you’re crying?”

“I’m not crying. Get the hell out of my face.”

“I want to know what’s going on with Clark.”

“Get away from me before I make you.”

Lana backed away from Lois and made her way towards the stairs. She suddenly felt a firm hand on her shoulder that forced her back away from the stairs. Lois shot her a very mean look before going after Clark, herself. Lana wasn’t threatened by Lois at all, so she just ran out the door ahead of her. It turned into a race between them.

Meanwhile, Clark was walking along the Metropolis sidewalks thinking about Lois and Lana.

<Chapter Eight Continued>

Lana was walking along the same sidewalk that Clark was. She saw him sitting on the side of the road on a curb. She went over and sat beside him.

“Lana, hi.”

“I know this is your time to think…but I didn’t really want to stay in the house. If you want me to leave than…” She stood up and turned.

Clark tugged on her arm, “No…I’d love for you to stay…here…with me.” He smiled, Lana smiled in return and sat back down close to him.

“I’ve been thinking about some things too, Clark.”

“Like what?” He asked softly.

“Lots of things…like school, work…” Lana tucked some of her hair behind her ear. “…You…”

“You’ve been thinking about me?” Clark grinned and turned his head a little bit away from her. “That makes everything a little less awkward, because I’ve been thinking about you too.”

“In a good or bad way?” Lana asked him.

“Don’t worry, nothing bad it’s just…” He exhaled sharply before continuing. “Everything has…become complicated.”

“I know.” She sighed.

Everything was quiet between them for a few minutes.

“I just wish it wasn’t.” Lana told Clark in a hushed tone.

“Me too.” He ran his hands through his hair.

“Do you think it’s my fault?” Lana asked him looking at the empty streets ahead of her.

“That everything changed and became a little more complicated? Not at all. And if not having you around would cause everything to be simple…then I would sure as hell choose to have a really complex and complicated life.”

Lana chuckled. “Thanks Clark. That made me feel better.”

“Good, because everything I said was true.” He beamed and gave her a one armed hug, which he didn’t really ever let go from and it made Lana feel even better. She leaned into his hug and asked, “Would you mind if I said something that might make things even more complicated than they are now?”

“No…go ahead, get anything of your chest that you need to.”

Lana took in a deep breath, “I love you.”

Clark said nothing as he took in the words that just came from Lana’s mouth. His lips curled into a half-smile as he leaned in closer towards her. Lana closed her eyes and awaited the kiss that she has needed from him for years, ever since they broke up.

Too bad it wasn’t going to happen.

“Lana?” Clark asked, slightly confused why Lana was just sitting there with her eyes closed.

Lana’s eyes snapped open and she looked into his, which were shining from the moonlight.

“Aren’t you going to tell me something?”

“Um…” Her body shook with nervousness, fearing if she admits her feelings for him it won’t turn out as she had hoped. “It’s nothing.”

“Lana…we are both terrible liars, I know there is something you want to tell me. I won’t laugh or hurt your feelings about it. I promise.”

“I…” She blinked rapidly, making sure that any unnecessary tears that were threatening to fall wouldn’t. “It won’t make any difference.”

“Lana…I think that it would, but if you don’t want to tell me then I have to respect that.”

“Thanks.”

Clark nodded and stood up. He helped Lana up and said, “I’m pretty much done thinking for the night.”

“Me, too.”

“Lana, I know that I don’t tell you everything that’s on my mind…but if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here. You can tell me anything.”

“I appreciate that.” She leaned in for a hug that Clark whole-heartedly returned, not wanting to let go until he absolutely had to. He thought maybe he felt this way because Lois rarely revealed what was inside in their conversations, she rarely actually wanted him to hold her, and never really wanted his protection because she knew she could take care of herself and be independent. Except when it came to kissing him or when Lois was trying to show off and make certain people jealous; the latest 'victim' being Lana.

Lana had her arms wrapped around Clark’s large torso, taking in the scent of him. She loved having his arms around her, protecting her…but she knew it wouldn’t last long; he had Lois to busy himself with. She wondered of how great it would be to be the one he would wed. She would actually cherish him, his love, unlike Lois who takes him for granted. ‘It’s not fair.’ She thought, ‘But since when is life fair? Maybe I deserve this…this ‘pain’ of seeing Clark marry someone else, even though I had envisioned being the one for him. Maybe because of all the doubts I had for us, all of the stupid, pointless arguments I caused, because I just had to know the truth, we broke up and I lost my chance. I still don’t know the truth, and I doubt that I ever will. But that doesn’t matter to me anymore, all that matters his him, and even though I can’t be with him I’ll still be the one he can go to…just like Chloe was.

Several tears traveled down Lana’s face onto Clark, just making it to his skin.

Clark felt the salty tears that had just come from Lana's eyes. “Lana?” He pulled away to get a better look at her. “What’s wrong?” He wiped away the tears from her cheek with his thumb.

“Just thinking about the past, present, and future.”

“Was it something I did?”

“Not at all. Um...can we go now?”

“Sure.” Clark and Lana walked closely together back to the house, the entire time each of their minds was plagued with thoughts of each other.

<Chapter Nine>

Clark and Lana entered the house quietly.

“Lois? Lois!” Clark called. He received no response so he assumed Lois wasn’t home.

“I’m going to go up to my room. You okay down here?”

“Yea.”

Clark went up to his bedroom and took a shower; he came out in a towel about twenty minutes later and went down to the kitchen. He walked past Lana, who was on the couch eating popcorn. She was dazed seeing Clark dripping wet, with an even more incredible body than she could remember. Well his torso sure looked better, she wasn’t sure about everything else, although she had a nice time imagining.

Lana ate her popcorn in slow motion watching him move around the kitchen. Clark laughed to himself at Lana’s reaction, even though he knew he was going to get one walking around in a towel.

Clark got his drink and sipped it standing around three feet from Lana.
‘Where is my camera when I need it?’ Lana thought. When Clark looked at her she just turned her head back to the TV screen. A little while later, Clark and Lana had the misfortune of still being awake when Lois came in.

Lois eyed Clark wondering why the hell he was sitting next to Lana in a towel. Even more annoyed seeing that Lana was having absolutely no problem with it.

“Clark, I’m going to go to sleep.” Lois told him.

“Okay. I’ll be up soon. Just after this movie, Aeon Flux is over.”

Lois nodded and went to bed.

Clark and Lana were both extremely tired by the time the movie was halfway finished. Clark paused the movie and went and changed into boxers and a white t-shirt. He sat back down next to Lana and un-paused the movie.

‘Now I really need my camera!’ She sighed and averted her attention back to the film.

The movie was almost over when Clark slowly changed his position so he was laying down, but curled up so there was room for Lana to sit. She stood up and lay down next to him so he was more comfortable. Clark put one of his arms across the arm of the couch as a headrest for both him and Lana.

Lana’s eyes slowly opened the next morning. She saw the clock that read 5:11 A.M. She felt an arm around her waist and looked over to see Clark sleeping soundly. She was tempted to wake him up, but then her wonderful morning would be cut very short. She decided not to wake him. Lana looked at Clark’s forearm that had reddish lines all along it, since she used it as a pillow. She lay her head back down and ran her fingers along his hand.

Lana carefully switched her position so she could face Clark. Lana now ran her fingers against the handsome features of his face.

“I really do love you, Clark.” With that thought Lana slowly drifted back into sleep.

Clark would soon be the one to wake at six in the morning. Since it was Sunday, Lois was off and that meant sleeping in as late as possible so Clark relaxed a little. He saw Lana’s beautiful face only inches away from his own. His arm was still wrapped around her petite waist, and he didn’t want to move at all. Clark was about to stretch his long legs when he noticed that their legs were entwined together. It wasn’t a very big deal since Lana was in sweat pants…but still, Clark was engaged with Lois and was sleeping on a small couch with another girl…with his arm around her…with their legs tangled together…

He didn’t want to wake her though so he didn’t stir. Lana moved her hands so they were against Clark’s chest. She was tremendously close to him now, considering her whole body was pretty much against his own. Several minutes later, Lana nestled her head against his chest, right above where her hands were. Now, instead of using his left arm as a pillow for them, he used it to gently stroke Lana’s forehead. He stopped and rested his chin upon her head and that’s when Lana finally woke. She didn’t get up or anything, she laid still and played with his shirt; Clark noticed.

He didn’t want to leave, because he loved sleeping next to someone who would liked being close to him, and he assumed Lana did because she wasn’t complaining. Why would he want to leave to go sleep by Lois, besides the fact that she was his girlfriend? Clark wasn’t really cheating on her, because if he was he would surely feel guilty, but he was just sleeping on a couch with a friend. And besides, Lois snored, hogged the blankets, and didn’t like to cuddle like Lana did. Even though Clark was too scared to really cuddle with Lana the way he wished they could, just being so close to her was enough for him.

So he stayed. They fell asleep again and both woke up at the same time when they heard Clark’s cell go off.

He reached over Lana to the coffee table and turned his phone off. It was 9:34 and neither of them wanted to get up yet.

Lana hesitantly untangled their legs and sat up.

“Getting up already?” Clark asked rubbing his eyes.

“Need to go to the bathroom.”

“Oh.” He stretched and tried to go back to sleep.

Lana came back, happy that Clark didn’t leave. She crawled back under the thick blanket and Clark put his arm back around her as she did the same for him. They never fell back asleep but Clark eventuallydecided to go make breakfast. He and Lana both dragged themselves to the kitchen to eat.

Clark took out a box of Cocoa Puffs and made himself some cereal. Being the gentleman that he was, he also took thirty seconds to make Lana a bowl.

They sat across from each other and ate their cereal.

“I slept well, did you?” Clark asked, taking a large bite.

“Best sleep I’ve had in weeks.”

Clark grinned. “The best sleep you’ve had in weeks was on a cramped couch with me?”

‘If I had to sleep in a dumpster with you I’d have a perfect night’s sleep.’ She thought.

“Yea. It’s better than sleeping on a small couch by myself. I liked sleeping with you.” She coughed. “Next to you, I mean.”

“Why thank you Lana.” He joked. “I guess I make the perfect teddy bear.”

“You do.” Lana replied playfully.

Clark laughed.

“I’m serious!” Lana told him.

Clark’s laughter died down as he looked at Lana with a smile. ‘Too bad Lois doesn’t see me that way.’ Clark poured himself another bowl while Lana stood up from the glass table.

“I’m going to go change.”

“Alright.” Clark said. He ate his cereal in peace until a certain sight caught his eye. Lana. She was changing and Clark knew he should respect her privacy but he saw her out of the corner of his eye, it wasn’t his fault. At least that’s what he told himself. Clark saw her strip down out of the sweats and large shirt to something black from Victoria’s Secret.

Clark’s eyes widened as he dropped the spoon from his mouth, and nearly choked from the cereal that he hadn’t finished chewing.

“I’m going to stop looking at her before I die.” Clark quickly cleaned up the mess and stood at the entranceway to where Lana was changing.

“Lana? Is it okay for me to…come in?”

“Yeah.”

He walked through and smiled, “You look great by the way.” He then rushed up to his room.

“You do, too…”

Clark quietly got under the covers next to Lois. She stirred, “Clark?”

“Uh huh.”

She rolled over to face him, “Sorry for the way I’ve been acting lately. It’s just…I’m nervous about the wedding, work has been crazy all week, and your ex girlfriend is living with us.”

Clark propped himself up on his elbow. “It’s okay, Lois. I understand.”

“It obviously isn’t okay, Clark. You’ve been really distant and I hate it.”

“I didn’t really mean to be…I thought you wanted your space.”

“We’re getting married Clark. Space is not what I want, it’s not what I…what we need.”

“I know. I want to be happy; I want you to be happy Lois.” He smiled and leaned in for a short kiss.

“One question- do you still have feelings for Lana?”

Clark swallowed hard, “Why are you asking that?”

“Because you spend more time with her than with any of your other friends, you spend more time with her than with me.”

“Like I said before, I thought you wanted space. Pete is always busy with his job in politics, Eric and his wife are on their honeymoon, and Jimmy is swamped at the Daily Planet, just like we were all week.”

“That’s that. But do you have feelings for Lana?”

“I care about her, yeah.”

“I mean strong feelings, Clark.”

“I can only be in love with one person Lois.” He smiled and kissed her again.

<Chapter Ten>

**The 23rd of November**

Clark and Lois have been out all day together and they finally came home to take a break from all of the busyness.

“Lois do you know where my black dress shoes are?” Clark asked, shuffling around the closet.

“No. I have to change my shoes, too. These are killing me.” She went upstairs to find them.

Lana walked past Clark.

“Lana, have you seen my black dress shoes?”

“Yea, they’re in the closet in your bedroom.”

“Uh…thanks. So…where are you going?”

“Out. I met this guy yesterday and…I’m going to go see him.”

Clark nodded, “Well…be careful.”

“I will be.” She smiled and walked out the door.

He sighed and went up to his room.

**A couple of hours later…**

Clark and Lois came through the front door after a wonderful evening together. Lois rushed upstairs to change once again. Clark heard the door open behind him and turned around to see Lana with some guy. He hid around the corner and listened to them talk.

“So…is it okay if I come in or am I being to forward?” Lana’s date asked.

“No it’s just that…it’s not really my place. I’m staying with a friend. And it is just the first date…”

“Right…I understand. I’ll see you tomorrow then?”

“No…I’m actually going to a…to a wedding.” She said trying her best to sound cheerful.

“Oh well. I guess I’ll call you in a couple days. Bye.” He put his hands in his pockets and walked off, that’s when Clark left the corner and sat down.

“Bye.” She shut the door and turned around to see Clark untying his shoes. “Hey. So how was your dinner with Lois?”

“It was good. How was your date with…that guy?”

“Fine, he’s nice. So…are you excited about tomorrow?”

“Excited is one word for it. Happy, anxious, nervous are other words to describe how I’m feeling.” He smiled and took off his shoes, grabbing his running shoes and putting them on.

“Going for a run?”

“Yeah. I haven’t gone running in a few days so…do you want to come?”

“Sure. I haven’t gone running in a while either.” She changed into some proper running attire and went out with Clark who was also changed into some shorts and a t-shirt.

They ran for almost an hour together, but stopped when they were by the park to take a break. Clark dipped his head in the giant fountain in the middle of the park. “That feels a lot better. Go ahead, you try.”

“No thanks, that water is probably freezing.” She took a sip of her water.

“Your loss.” Clark sat on the edge of it and chugged his drink. He splashed some water at Lana. She scoffed as she walked up to him. Lana was really close to him when she pushed him in. Clark came up quickly and grabbed Lana by the waist, pulling her in with him. They were both knee deep in the fountain while they stared at one another, water still being poured over both of them.

Clark and Lana scooted towards each other slowly; she could see that Clark was breathing heavily. He tilted his head as she did hers and they got closer and closer to one another. His lips lightly brushed hers before he pulled back; both of them were obviously disappointed.

“I can’t.” Clark said, still breathing heavily while looking her in the eyes.

“I know.” Lana replied, nodding. “I just…” She paused.

“You just what?”

“…I just wish …that things were different.”

Clark didn’t say anything for a moment. “So do I.”

“I’m sorry, Clark.”

“Don’t be.” He smiled at her.

“Clark…I have to say something before…before tomorrow. I don’t think it will change anything but I have to tell you.”

He pulled away from the embrace. “I’m listening.”

“I love you.”

He took her hands in his own and parted his lips. “Now I really wish things were different…because I…” He took a deep breath. “I love you too.”

She looked at him with disbelief and sat down on the edge of the fountain, facing away from him.

“And I thought you’d be happy to hear that.” He sat down beside Lana.

“How can I be? You’re getting married to Lois, Clark.”

“I know. I just wish you told me earlier Lana. Because…maybe… things would be different.”

“It’s too late now.” Lana said, as she looked him in the eyes.

He nodded with sorrow before he leaned over and planted a gentle kiss on her lips. They parted and as surprised as Lana was…she got closer to him and practically attacked him with an incredibly affectionate kiss. He cupped her cheek and returned the kiss with passion as they both leaned back so the water was continuously raining over them. They broke apart and the desired moment between them was over all too soon.

“We should go.” Lana told him, sniffling.

“I don’t want to. How am I supposed to get married to Lois after this?”

“I don’t know Clark. But I’ll love you no matter what you do or what mistakes you make.”

“So are you saying that marrying Lois is a mistake?”

“You be the judge of that.”

“Okay I will be. It is a mistake…Lana I need you. The wedding is off.”

“I’m not going to let you do that, Clark. You’ll be happier with Lois.”

“No I won’t. I’ll be miserable without you.”

“And you just realized that now?”

“No. Why do you think I’ve been with you more than I have with Lois? I don’t love her. But she accepts me for who I am and that’s the only reason why I decided to be with her.”

“She accepts you for who you are? So you told her about you but you won’t tell the person you love? Wait…never mind. I’m not going back to nagging about the truth again.”

“I’ll tell you the truth soon…but all I can tell you now is that…in order to be the man that I need to be, I need someone I love, that can be my support system to be with me. I need you so I can save…the world. Mainly Metropolis.”

“Save the world?” Lana chuckled.

“It’s part of that truth that I never told you. Just know that I’m not lying, and that I’m not exaggerating or anything.” Clark said seriously.

“Okay, so assuming that you are actually going to save the world, you need me to do it?”

“Yes.”

Lana sighed. “I can’t honestly believe you, Clark.”

“Believe what? You can’t believe that I’m supposed to save the world, or that I need you to do it?”

“I can’t believe that you’re supposed the be the savior of the Earth.

“Then I guess I do have to show you. Prepare to be freaked out.” Clark super sped away and came back in his car. He got out and lifted it in one hand; thankfully there were no other people in the park to see this spectacle.

Lana looked at him with her mouth wide open.

“Yeah. So there’s super strength and super speed. Is that enough proof to hold you for now?”

Lana nodded, still insanely shocked at what she just saw.

Clark set his car down and walked closer to her. “So…back to where we were. I need you to be the person that will be there for me.”

She tried to just go along like she didn’t see Clark lift up a car in one hand. “And I will…as a friend.”

Clark laughed lightly. “You honestly think that we can be friends…after everything we’ve been through? After we just admitted that we still love each other?”

“Yes, I think we can. Clark I can’t be your wife, girlfriend, or anything like that. Because if you have to save the world than you have to make time for it, which you won’t if you’re with me. I realized that…when we’re together all you want to do is protect me, spend time with me, and be by my side. That won’t work if you want to save the world.”

“We’ll make it work. Lana please.”

“Clark…” She wiped the tears from her eyes. “You can’t do this to Lois…it’s selfish. I should know, because that’s how we both were, especially me, in high school.”

“Lana…I don’t care. Love is more important to me than making a few other people happy.”

“Shouldn’t the man that’s going to save the world be a little more concerned about others and what they feel?”

“I am, I know this isn’t how I should be. But I can’t lose you.”

Lana walked up to him. “And you won’t. I will be here for you, always.”

Clark smiled. “Why couldn’t it be you instead of Lois?”

“Maybe it’s fate that you’re with her.”

“Or maybe it’s fate that I’m not going to marry her.”

“Clark…”

“Lana, I’ve made my decision.” He paused and ran his hands through his messy, wet hair. “It’s clearer now than ever, Lois isn’t the one.”

“As happy as that would make me, no Clark. You made a commitment to her.”

“Why are you fighting this? You love me and I love you so why does it matter?”

“It matters because it will never work! It can’t. You always use to ask me to trust you…well now it’s my turn. Trust me…it won’t work.”

“If we try-” Clark started.

“We can’t try. If we do it will end up like it did in high school…one of our hearts will be broken and someone will get hurt.”

He didn’t look at her as he answered. “I uh…I fell in a puddle.” He went and took a long, hot shower all the while thinking about his past conversation with Lana.

Oh, the realization of enduring love and yet the need to stay apart...exactly the kind of story I like (hey, I liked Shakespeare's tragedies a lot more than I liked his comedies - much more interesting). :p

The puddle answer would have been hilarious (glares at Esvie for ruining it all).

What exactly is Lois thinking by now, and (in speculation that I hope won't interfere with your next update) is she going to break up with Clark because of her realization that he loves someone else more?

I took forever on this update, I know. But the story is coming to an end because I meant for this to be a really short fic. I was orginally intending to write only 5 chapters...but I made more because I enjoyed writing this. :) Thanks to everyone for replying to my story and here is the next update.

<Chapter Eleven>

Lana walked through the door about fifteen minutes after Clark did, and she still wasn’t dry.

Lois turned her head and saw that Lana was wet just like Clark was a little while before. She stood up and went over to her.

“Why are you and Clark both wet?” Lois asked, crossing her arms.

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know? Tell me what happened.” She commanded.

Clark walked through just in time, “We both fell in a puddle…it was really big.” He told Lois, extending his arms to show her how large the puddle was.

“That’s a load of crap. What really happened?”

“Nothing happened!” Clark shouted.

“What’s wrong with you?” Lois asked.

“I…nothing.” He sighed with frustration and walked away from them. He went outside, and Lana went out on to the balcony. Lois didn’t have a clue to what was going on and just figured Clark was stressed about the wedding, which he was but in a different way than she thought.

Clark was leaning on the thick railing on the balcony when Lana got out; she was surprised but then remembered what he showed her earlier. She slowly walked up behind him and put her hand on his shoulder, he didn’t move at all or even look in her direction.

“Clark?”

He finally shifted and looked at her. “Yeah?”

“I’m sorry.”

“Can you please stop saying that? I don’t want to hear the word sorry anymore.” Clark told her, turning back to the view ahead of him.

“What do you want me to say then?” She asked, tugging on his shoulder to make him face her.

“I love you.” Clark said, looking into her eyes.

Lana nodded. “I love you.” She replied; her words filled with emotion.

He smiled at her and once again turned back to the city before them, Lana did the same, resting her head upon his shoulder.

Clark tossed and turned that night. It was 2 AM before he decided to get up. He crept out of the room so he wouldn’t wake Lois. Clark went downstairs and saw Lana tossing and turning, too.

He tried to go past her quietly but he didn’t succeed.

“Clark? What are you doing?” She asked softly.

“I couldn’t sleep. I’m just going to get a glass of milk.”

“Oh.”

He leaned against the counter in the kitchen, not even bothering to get the milk he came for. Later, he turned off the lights and was up two stairs before he felt a hand on his shoulder.

“I can’t sleep either.” Clark couldn’t tell since it was so dark, but Lana had a smile on her face.

He followed her to the couch and she sat down, patting the spot next to her for Clark.

“Aren’t we going to lay down?” He asked putting his hands in his lap.

“Not yet.”

“What?”

She smiled and kissed him on the lips

“Lana…I thought you said-”

“I know…I know. But I don’t have time to think…I can’t use my head right now. You’re getting married-”

“And that’s exactly why I can’t do this. I can’t…kiss you… or anything if I’m going to get married to Lois. So it’s either I don’t…and we can be together, or I do…and we can’t be together. You can’t have both, it’s not fair to me or Lois.” Clark said, sadly.

Lana sighed.

“Lana…all that stuff about us not working, it can, if we try.”

“It’s too late to try.”

“But it’s not too late to have a make-out session in the middle of the night?”

“I guess I wanted to have one more kiss before tomorrow…”

“It doesn’t have to be our last kiss. Lana you have nothing to lose-”

“But you do.”

“And what is that? I’ll have you, my mom, Chloe, all my other non-Lois related friends, and my job. I don’t need anything else. Like you said before, let’s not be selfish. The world needs me, and with out you they won’t have what they need.”

Lana thought about what he said for a minute. “Clark I need time it’s not just a decision I can make in a few seconds.”

“Lana…don’t think. Just like you said earlier, you can’t use your head right now. I’m getting married tomorrow unless you decide to be with me.”

“Just…let me sleep on it.”

Clark opened his mouth contradict her, but stopped. “Fine.” He smiled and whispered, “I love you.”

“I love you too.” She whispered back to him. He stroked her cheek with his thumb.

“Don’t think too much.” He grinned.

“I’ll try not to.” She kissed him one long, last time for the night and he went to his room.

Clark turned towards his room in the hallway and saw Lois hurry and close the door. He was instantly filled with fear. Clark swallowed hard and tip toed forward, opening the door and seeing Lois sitting on the bed with the light on.

“Hey Lois…what are you doing up?” He asked, trying his best to sound calm.

“I woke up and you weren’t in bed so I got up to see if something was wrong…instead I saw you and Lana.”

“It wasn’t what it looked like Lois…” Clark said, starting to panic.

“Oh…so you two weren’t sitting on the couch together kissing?” Lois asked angrily.

Clark gulped.

clark should own up to his feeling... and kick Lois out of his life... With or without Lana...

Cause from there it can only go downhill with Lois...

Yes, Clark needs to be honest with Lois, & cancel the wedding - even if Lana decides not to be with him after all - because he doesn't really love Lois enough to marry her, & it isn't fair to her for him to even consider staying with her as "second choice" just because he thinks he can't be with Lana.
