The camera backs up revealing the darken city of Metropolis with scattered fires throughout the city.
As the camera continues to back up we see the darkened North American continent then a view of the earth with lights being darkened at a steady rate with Metropolis at the center.
As the view gets deeper into space we see the phantom zone cut in front of the camera with Clark locked inside.
“And now, the season premier of Smallville.”
Act 1: Scene 1
The scene is the view of earth after the phantom zone has passed.
The camera then begins to move forward, back towards the earth.
Silhouettes of the continents come into view.
We see the power outage extending beyond the horizon.
The view gets closer as the camera zooms into North America and then the Midwestern United States.
Finally we see the outline of the city of Metropolis which is lit up by the fires throughout the city.
The view is now coming in from above as we see Chloe being held down by two men with four more men coming in to surround her.
The camera makes its final zoom to a close-up of Chloe’s face.
Chloe (screaming): No! No!
Thug #1 has placed himself on top of Chloe: His face just inches from her face.
Thug #1: Oh, you’re a pretty one. This is going to be fun.
Chloe gathers up her courage and spits in his face.
Thug #1 shakes the residue from his face and turns to the others behind him.
Thug #1: Hold her legs down!
Thug #1 grabs a hold a Chloe’s hair and yanks her face forward.
Thug #1: “I like it when they put up a fight.”
Voice from behind: “Let her go.”
The view switches to the group of thugs as they look behind to see where the voice is coming from.
The view switches to what they’re seeing. We see that Lionel Luthor is standing before them. His face is healed from his previous wounds.
The view changes to Chloe looking at Lionel. She is not sure of what she is seeing.
Lionel/Jor-El: “I said let her go.”
Thug #1: “Go get that old man.”
One of the thugs steps up to Lionel/Jor-El and throws a punch right at his face. Lionel/Jor-El immediately catches his hand and crushes it. The thug falls to the street in agony.
Two more thugs run at Lionel/Jor-El. He grabs them by the front of their jackets and throws them over his shoulder.
Two of the remaining three thugs run away while Thug #1 gets off of Chloe and faces Lionel. He pulls out a switchblade.
Thug #1: “Now we’ll see what you’re made of, old man.”
Before he is able to do anything, Chloe is on her feet and kicks him between his legs from behind. He drops to his knees and turns his head around to see Chloe standing above him. She swings her leg with all her might and kicks him in the head, knocking him unconscious.
She is puzzled by what has just occurred and she looks at Lionel:
Chloe: “Mr. Luthor?”
Lionel answers her. He is unemotional in his response.
Lionel: “I am Jor-El.”
Chloe: “Clark’s father?”
Lionel/Jor-El: “I am Kal-El’s father Ms. Sullivan and I need your help.”
Chloe looks at him in a distrusting manner.
Lionel/Jor-El: “I need your help and Kal-El needs your help.”
Chloe approaches Lionel/Jor-El.
Chloe: “What do you want me to do?”
Lionel/Jor-El grabs Chloe and picks her up in his arms.
Chloe is surprised not only by the move by the ease in which Lionel/Jor-El picked her up.
Lionel/Jor-El: “Hold on tightly, Ms. Sullivan.”
Chloe puts her arms around his neck as Lionel/Jor-El launches himself into the night sky.
The two thugs who were thrown are just beginning to recover when they see Lionel/Jor-El and Chloe fly into the sky. They just look at one another, shaking their heads. They are not quite sure of what they have just seen.

Act 1: Scene 4
Inside the cockpit of the LuthorCorp jet. We see Fine at the controls. He is piloting the plane.
We see what Fine is viewing through the front window of the jet. Up ahead is the Fortress of Solitude. It becomes obvious to the audience that Fine is directing the jet to crash into the Fortress.
Act 1: Scene 5
The top of the LuthorCorp Building.
Lex/Zod is aggressively kissing Lana. At first she is responding. He is holding her by her arms and she is unable to move and as his kiss intensifies Lana begins to struggle. His grip begins to hurt her arms and she is unable to remove her mouth from his, thereby finding it difficult to breathe. Finally, he releases her and she pushes away from him. Lana is holding her arms trying to rub away the pain. She looks up at Lex/Zod.
Lana: “Lex you hurt me.”
Lex/Zod has a questioning look on his face. He answers as if he doesn’t know what Lana is talking about/
Lex/Zod: “Lex?”
Lana looks back at Lex/Zod. She is now frightened by the way he has responded to her.
Lex/Zod looks at her and smiles.
Lex/Zod: “Now I understand why Jor-El and his son see in Earth women.”
Lana looks back at Lex/Zod. The shot is a close up of her face. Her look is that of not understanding what she has just heard and she is also frightened.
Act 1: Scene 6
Lionel/Jor-El arrives with Chloe with Chloe at the Fortress of Solitude. They are walking towards the center console of the Fortress.
Lionel/Jor-El: “Zod has been released. He had imprisoned Kal-El in the Phantom Zone.”
Chloe: “Clark is in that two dimensional living hell?”
Lionel/Zod: “We have to release him. But I need your help if we are to stop Zod. Already your entire planet has been brought to its knees.”
As he says this Chloe looks up. She sees the LuthorCorp jet in the distance. It is heading straight for the Fortress.
Chloe: “Oh my God!”
End of Act 1
Act 2 Scene 1
The view is in the cockpit of the LuthorCorp jet. Fine is directing the jet to crash into the Fortress of Solitude.
The door behind him is torn open and Lionel/Jor-El is standing in the doorway. Even though he is a machine, Fine’s eye brows lift upward in surprise as to what he has just seen.
Fine: “Jor-El!”
Fine focuses his eyes to use his heat vision on Lionel/Jor-El but before he can do so Lionel/Jor-El punches his fist into Fine’s head in such a way that the fist is actually absorbed by Fine’s head.
The view is now on Lionel/Jor-El’s eyes as we see Kryptonian symbols being reflected in his eyes.
Fine begins to dissipate and finally disappears.
Lionel/Jor-El takes the pilot’s seat.
Act 2 Scene 2
The view is from Chloe’s perspective within the Fortress of Solitude. She sees the LuthorCorp jet headed straight for her. She does not know what to do. She is paralyzed with fear. The jet is almost upon her and at the last second pulls up and climbs back into the sky.
She sees the jet bank to the right and flies away.
Chloe begins to breathe normally again.
Act 2 Scene 3
The top of the LuthorCorp Building.
Lex/Zod and Lana.
Lana is looking at Lex/Zod. She is not quite sure of what she has just heard. She walks up to Lex/Zod and places her hand affectionately on the side of his face.
Lana: “Lex, what have they done to you?”
Lex/Zod removes Lana’s hand from his face and looks at it as if he is examining it.
Lex/Zod: “I had forgotten how pleasing a woman’s touch can be.”
He looks at Lana and smiles.
Lex/Zod: “Nothing has been done to Luthor that wasn’t already there. It was just a matter of time before his true nature was brought to the surface. I’ve only accelerated the process.”
Lex/Zod lets go of Lana’s hand and begins to walk around her looking her up and down.
Lex/Zod: “I can see how loving you would make Kal-El weak.”
Recognizing the name, “Kal-El”, Lana is now frightened. She associates the name with the two aliens who almost killed her a year earlier.
Lana: “Kal-El?”
Lex/Zod smiles at her.
Lex/Zod: “He’s been with you all this time and you still do not see. He had his chance to rule this planet with me. But he is just as pious as his father. He has been contaminated by you pathetic humans to such an extent that he could not even bring himself to kill the man who hates him most in this world. Now he is paying the price for his folly.”
Lana’s eyes begin to open as she realizes who the person is that Lex/Zod is talking about.
Lana: “Clark?”
Lex/Zod smiles at what she has said and gives a slight nod of his head in acknowledgement.
Lana: “What have you done with Clark?”
Lex/Zod: “He has been condemned to the same punishment that his father condemned me. He is in a prison of never ending agony. A place that is as close to your mythological hell as any prison could be.”
The view is now on Lana’s face as she begins to comprehend exactly what Lex/Zod is saying.
Lex/Zod: “Why do you think you were compelled to come here? You risk your life to make your way through the chaos reigning below us to reach the top of this building. Do you really think it was because of something that exists between you and this vessel I inhabit? It was me calling you. You are drawn to the darkness just as much as this vessel. Without your precious Kal-El to temper this calling, you have no choice but to come to me. Kal-El has lost the battle that he was ill-equipped to fight. And you are the spoils of my victory.”
The scene ends with the focus on Lana’s face as she realizes that she is in a predicament from which she cannot escape.
Act 2 Scene 4
The LuthorCorp jet is on the ground. The view is inside the cabin. It is pitch-black. Martha Kent and Lois Lane begin to regain consciousness and they begin to sit up. The darkness is penetrated by streams of light. It is clear that the door on the fuselage has been ripped open. We begin to see silhouettes of figures behind the light. The light hits Martha and Lois in the eyes, blinding them and they try to block the light by putting their hands in front of their eyes. The silhouettes gradually become clearer and we can see the images of soldiers holding rifles and flashlights.
Martha: “What’s going on? Where are we?”
Soldier #1: “Never mind what’s going on. Who are you?”
Lois thinking she can influence the soldiers with her military manner becomes assertive.
Lois: “Get that light out of my face, soldier. You’re addressing the daughter of General Sam Lane. Where are we?”
A no-nonsense veteran sergeant shines his flashlight right in Lois’ face.
Sergeant: “I don’t care if you’re Attila the Hun. I’m asking the questions and you will answer. Now who are you?”
Martha in a calming manner tries to settle everyone down.
Martha: “Sergeant, I’m Senator Martha Kent from Kansas and this is my Chief of Staff, Ms. Lois Lane. We were on our way to Washington DC when both Lois and I passed out.”
Sergeant: “You’re a little bit off course, Senator. You’re in Anchorage. Alaska.”
Lois: “Anchorage, Alaska? How did we get to Anchorage, Alaska?”
One of the soldiers comes out through the cockpit entrance. The door has been torn off and is off to the side of the entrance.
Soldier #2: “We’ve got a bigger question.”
Everyone becomes silent and looks at Soldier #2.
Soldier #2: “Where’s the pilot?”
Act 2 Scene 5
We start with a view of Lionel/Jor-El. He is standing with Chloe in the Fortress of Solitude.
Lionel/Jor-El: “It was Zod’s intention to destroy this Fortress. He still fears Kal-El. By destroying the Fortress he would permanently imprison Kal-El within the Phantom Zone.”
Lionel/Jor-El holds out his hand and a purple, crystalline cylinder forms in his palm.
He places the purple crystal into the middle of the crystal console in the center of the Fortress. Immediately, several purple crystals shoot forward from the console and begin to glow. The color becomes more intense each passing second.
Close-up of Chloe watching what is happening. The purple color of the crystals reflects on her face.
Close-up of Lionel/Jor-El, his eyes glowing in intensity.
The Phantom Zone suddenly opens up. It vibrates from within. It continually changes color in intensity.
From the back of the zone we can see a small figure. It tumbles over and over coming forward. The figure gradually becomes clearer and we can see the colors of red and blue. Finally, the figure of Clark fills up the entire Zone. He is then shot out of the Zone onto the floor of the Fortress. Clark is lying on the floor. His arms are wrapped around his body holding himself as if he is in terrible pain. His back is turned to the camera. A smoky mist is rising from every part of his body.
Chloe runs to his side and turns him over.
Chloe: “Clark?”
Clark slowly comes to his senses and realizes that he is no longer in the Zone. He looks up a sees Chloe in front of him.
Clark: “Chloe?”
Lionel/Jor-El comes to Chloe’s side and looks down on Clark.
Close-up on Lionel/Jor-El.
Lionel/Jor-El: “Son?”
Close-up on Clark.
Clark: “Father.”
Close-up on Lionel/Jor-El.
A small smile comes to his face.
For the first time ever, Clark has openly acknowledged his Kryptonian heritage.
End of Act 2
Act 3 Scene 1
Clark, Lionel/Jor-El and Chloe are in the Fortress of Solitude. Lionel/Jor-El holds out his hand again and the crystalline knife forms in his palm.
Lionel/Jor-El: We must still sacrifice the vessel of Zod if we are to save this planet.
Clark: “Jor-El, you know that I can’t kill – even my enemy.”
Clark hangs his head down in shame.
Clark: “That is my weakness.”
Lionel/Jor-El: “Your love for this race is not a weakness, my son. That is your strength. Zod has always equated strength with physical and technological might. That is his weakness. And he is a coward. You have learned as I did of this race’s capacity for sacrifice. We have seen it with individuals. Jonathan Kent was willing to sacrifice his life. At times we see it with entire societies. It is the humans’ greatest strength.”
Clark is silent as he begins to understand what Lionel/Jor-El is saying.
Clark: “What must I do?”
Once again Lionel/Jor-El holds out his hand and a crystal forms. It is similar to one of the stones of knowledge. It is the crystal of transference.
Lionel/Jor-El: “You must sacrifice the vessel. Whatever vessel it is that Zod resides in.”
Clark looks at Lionel/Jor-El and he understands what he is being told. He takes the transference crystal from Lionel/Jor-El’s hand.
Clark: “I understand.”
Chloe comes between the two.
Chloe: “What are you asking Clark to sacrifice?”
Lionel/Jor-El: “Kal-El knows what he must do.”
Chloe: “What about the virus?”
Lionel/Jor-El: “The virus is Fine. Fine is the tool of Zod. Destroy Zod and you destroy Fine. Destroy Fine and you destroy the virus.”
Lionel/Jor-El faces Chloe.
Lionel/Jor-El: “We must sacrifice the vessel.”
Chloe is visibly upset at what she is hearing. Clark grabs her by her arms and turns her to face him.
Clark: “Chloe, you have to help me do this. I can’t do it by myself.”
The scene ends with a close-up of Chloe. There is despair in her eyes.
Act 3 Scene 2
The scene is at the top of the LuthorCorp building. Lex/Zod is once again circling around Lana. He is touching her shoulders and her hair. He holds her hair up to his face and inhales deeply, taking in her fragrance. Lana is frozen. She cannot understand what it is that is keeping her from running.
Lex/Zod: “All of you humans have the same darkness. Look below you.”
The camera focuses on the chaos ensuing in the city.
Lex/Zod: “This is your true nature. Don’t fight it, Lana.”
Lex/Zod takes Lana by the arms and pulls her towards him.
Lex/Zod: “Give in to your desire…and to mine.”
Lex/Zod pulls Lana into a forceful kiss. She is repulsed and drawn to him at the same time. Her eyes are open in fearful shock. But she cannot resist the desire she is feeling. She begins to weaken and her eyes begin to close as she starts to respond to his kiss.
Clark: “Let her go!”
Lex/Zod releases his grasp of Lana. Both are astonished at seeing Clark on the ledge of the building.
Lex/Zod: “Kal-El, I underestimated you.”
Lana: “Clark!”
Lex/Zod grabs Lana he places his hand on her head and begins to squeeze. Lana is in pain as her knees buckle.
Lex/Zod: “I destroyed all of the inhabitants of Krypton, Kal-El. One inconsequential human will make no difference to me.”
Clark: “Stop! It’s not her that you want, Zod. Both you and the vessel you inhabit know this. It’s always been me.”
Lex/Zod begins to slightly squeeze Lana’s head. She begins to scream in pain.
Clark: “Zod! No! I beg you!”
Clark is desperate as he approaches Lex/Zod. He raises his hands in a peaceful gesture.
Clark: “Please, let her live and I’ll give you what you want. I’ll give you your final victory. I’ll give you the son of Jor-El. That is what you want. Isn’t it?”
As Clark says this he hold up the transference crystal. Lex/Zod recognizes what is in Clark’s hand.
Lex/Zod: “Do you love her and her race that much that you would sacrifice yourself.”
Clark can barely get the words out of her mouth.
Clark: ‘Yes. I love her - her and her race.”
Lex/Zod lets go of Lana. She falls to the floor. Lex/Zod walks to Clark. He is inches from his face.
Lex/Zod: “Son of Jor-El, kneel before Zod!”
Clark falls to his knees and raises his hand holding the transference crystal. Lex/Zod grabs one end of the crystal while Clark is holding to the other. The crystal begins to glow and both Clark and Lex/Zod begin to glow with it. Lana is watching in amazement. Zod’s spirit is transferred in Clark. Lex collapses to the floor and hits his head. He is unconscious. Clark rises to his feet. He inhales deeply. The expression on his face is one of victory. His eyes are ablaze.
Suddenly, Clark/Zod begins to weaken. He falls to his knees. As he falls we see that Chloe is behind him holding a large rock of kryptonite. The rock is glowing. Clark/Zod falls to the ground. Chloe stands over him and places the kryptonite on his chest.
Lana does not realize what is happening. Her concern is for Clark. She is in a panic.
Lana: “Chloe what are you doing?”
Lana is about to run to Clark and Chloe when a hand grabs her arm. Lionel/Jor-El is behind her.
Lionel/Jor-El: “The vessel must be sacrificed. Kal-El has accepted this.”
Lionel/Jor-El lets go of Lana’s arms and goes over to Clark/Zod. He kneels down beside him as Chloe leaves to stand next to Lana. Lionel/Jor-El places his hand on the Kryptonite and pushed into Clark’s chest.
Clark/Zod screams in agony.
Lionel/Jor-El takes the crystalline knife out of his overcoat pocket. He holds the knife to Clark/Zod’s throat.
Lionel/Jor-El: “Zod, you could not defeat me. You will not defeat my son.”
Clark/Zod finally comes to recognize who is speaking to him.
Clark/Zod: “Jor-El!”
Lionel/Jor-El brings the crystalline knife back preparing to stab Clark/Zod in the throat.
Lana: “No!”
As Lana screams Clark/Zod’s body begins to glow. He is still holding the transference crystal. Zod’s spirit leaves Clarks body through the crystal and rises above the group, hovering in the night sky.
Lionel/Jor-El stands up and removes a Phantom Zone ring from his wrist. He throws it into the air behind Zod’s spirit. The Phantom Zone opens up and Zod’s spirit is pulled into it. The Zone closes and shoots off into space, tumbling end over end.
Lionel/Jor-El removes the kryptonite from Clark’s chest and throws it off of the building. Clark begins to regain his senses. Lana pulls away from Chloe and runs to Clark. She cradles his head in her arms as a mother cradling an injured child. She is crying uncontrollably.
The crystalline knife disintegrates in Lionel/Jor-El’s hand. Lionel/Jor-El collapses to the floor. Jor-El’s spirit has left him.
Clark realizes where he is and he realizes that Lana is holding him.
Clark: “Lana?”
Lana: “Clark, I thought I had lost you.”
Clark stands up and Chloe comes to his side. Lex is beginning to stir. He is slowly regaining consciousness.
Clark: “We need to leave.”
Lana looks at Chloe.
Lana: “How long have you known?”
Chloe: “Lana, it’s not what you think.”
Chloe is about to leave with Clark when she turns to Lana.
Chloe: “We need to talk - soon.”
Clark picks up Chloe and launches himself into the air and flies off into the distance. Lana is stunned by what she has just seen.
Lex is now awake. He looks around. He sees Lana.
Lex: “What’s happened? What’s going on?”
Lana: “What do you remember?”
Lex: “The last thing I remember is falling asleep on the couch with you.”
Lex feels a bump on his head from when he fell. He feels it and there is blood on his hand. He realizes that whatever powers he had are now gone.
The camera backs up to reveal Lana looking upwards. As the camera backs up we see the city of Metropolis lighting up. As the view backs up we see the North American continent lighting up and then the entire planet.
End of Act 3
Act 4 Scene 1
Clark is sitting in his loft. Lana and Chloe are walking up the steps. Clark rises to his feet as he sees both of them. Chloe is cheerful while Lana is deep in thought.
Chloe: “Hi!”
Clark: “Chloe, Lana – I wasn’t expecting you.”
Lana and Clark are looking at each other intensely. It’s as if Chloe isn’t even in the room.
Chloe: “Well, I just go and say hello to your mom. Don’t you two pay any attention to me.”
Chloe walks back down the steps of the loft. On her face is an expression of resignation.
Clark and Lana continue to look at each other in uncomfortable silence.
Clark: “Are you okay?”
Lana nods her head.
Lana: “Are you?”
Clark silently nods his head. He is struggling to find something to say.
Lana: “Chloe and I had a long talk on the drive up here. You were the main topic of conversation.”
Clark: “So you know everything?”
Lana nods her head.
Lana: “Clark, on the roof you said some things. Three words sort of stood out. The question is did you mean it?”
Clark turns his back to Lana and faces the window. He is looking out at the night sky.
Clark: “Lana…I meant every word.”
He turns around from the loft window and faces Lana.
Clark: “Lana…I never stopped loving you.”
Lana walks up to Clark and looks up at him.
Lana: “Clark, I need you in my life. I’ve seen a side of myself that no one should ever see. I’ve been a part of the darkness that now consumes Lex. I love you,m Clark. Why can’t we just be together?”
Clark: “Lana, I know now that I’m here for a reason. I’ll still trying to figure out what that reason is.”
Lana: “Clark you were willing to give up your life for me, for the world. I’m just asking to be a part of that life.”
Clark: “If you’ve spoken to Chloe you know of Lex’s obsession with me. You know of the danger.”
Lana nods her head.
Clark: “And you still want us to be together?”
Lana comes up to him and takes hold of his hands.
Lana: “It will be our secret.”
They come together and embrace. They kiss and the kiss intensifies.
The view is now a close-up of Lana’s face. A tear flows from her eye. We do not know if she is crying out of the joy of being together or the sadness of not being able to be open about it.
The camera backs up until we are seeing the couple from outside through the window of the loft. The view continues to get higher until we see the barn, then the farm, rising until we see the entire Earth.

The End
