You know them. The "hair bands" from the 70's and 80's.
We all have our favorites.
Queen, Motley Crue, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Poison, and so so so many more.
Most people my age barely know who they are. -shakes head- That is sad.
So, let's teach this generation good music, shall we?

Lol very true. Watching that Live 8 footage really got me nostalgic. Pink Floyd's my favorite band of all time. I remember when my dad put on the Dark Side of the Moon tape when I was 8ish. It was in Russia, and it was like the only tape I had (i think the other one had Queen on one side, and Deep Purple on the other). You know that heartbeat at the beginning? Well that by itself got me hooked. DSotM was the only album I listened to until I moved to the US. That's four years of pure Pink Floyd, every single day. I loved them back then, and I still do.
Has anyone heard the Queen album, Sheer Heart Attack? An absolute masterpiece.

You know what my dad said? There is something he heard that if you start the Dark Side of the Moon album at some point during the Wizard of Oz it's the perfect soundtrack to make it a semi-creepy movie.
My parents saw Motley Crue in that tour last year, and they said that Tommy Lee was flying from platform to platform on some wire with drums on each one.
The last time they saw them was the Girls Girls Girls tour, and THAT time he was flipping upside in a cage, all the while playing!

Haha yeah, Tommy's insane. Didn't realize they still toured...
And yeah, my friends and I did that once when we were... up there... ahem... and bored. Fits perfectly. And the Wall fits with Alice in Wonderland. Gilmour must have been bored.

It was kind of a reunion/farewell tour type thing. Not quite sure how to explain it.
But, the tour was called Carnival of Sins.
LOL, up there huh?
What do you think of Jimi Hendrix? Guitar genuis right there.

Hendrix is a guitar god.

Hendrix I have mixed opinions about. I know that he was the greatest guitarist in the sense that he could play like a god. Undoubtedly, there was no one better... ever. But musically, his songs are horrible. With the exception of Purple Haze, Along the Watchtower, and a few others, his music is pure show off and lacks elegance and distinct and unique sound.

Everyone has their own opinion, Ketchup.
Another guitarist from that period: Eddie Van Halen. I've watched videos of him play Eruption, and listened to lots of his live solos (which are all different)
It just blows me away.

Well, this is the kind of music I love, the "old" music.
My fav. band from all times is Pink Floyd, generally speaking I love prog music...
Genesis, Yes, King Crimon, Jethro Tull, Kansas, Flower Kings, Pink Floyd, and lot of more bands...
Classic rock, of course, I love a lot bands as well... :D

What about the Eagles? I was listening to Hotel California, and thought I'd see if anyone else likes them. :D

Well, it's interesting that you mentioned the younger generation missing out on a lot of good music. My kids are "subjected" to all kinds of music when they ride in the car with me and both of them are Pink Floyd and Queen fans. Since they were little I always told them who the songs were by and now I quiz them. They can pretty easily identify Floyd, Queen, the Beatles, Led Zep, Elton John, Steely Dan, Billy Joel, James Taylor, etc.
I don't plan on letting them grow up unexposed to the older stuff. At the same time I try to keep current with much of what's on the radio now. My oldest is big into Metallica, Linkin Park, etc. Not really my kind of music but at least I know who they are and can usually identify them.

Anyone else here like the grateful dead? I've only recently gotten into them but I have to say they are one of the best bands of all time.

Cream, Doors, Zep, Stones and Pink Floyd.

Kansas, Boston, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, CCR, Foreigner, and Blue Oyster Cult are all some of my favorites.
I also agree with what Ketchup said about Jimi Hendrix lacking some of that elegance and distinct and unique sound. Don't get me wrong, I love Jimi Hendrix, and he was amazing, but everyone has their faults.
Keyblade- about The Grateful Dead, I've only listened to a few of their songs, but so far I'm really enjoying them.

HT, I know that everyone has their opinions, and my posts reflect my opinions only. I'm not trying to impose my thinking on anyone. Just trying to explain why I am not that big of a Jimi fan.
Greatful Dead? I think I've heard of them, but I can't say I've heard any of their stuff.
starfush, Deep Purple is amazing. They are the reason bands like Led Zep, AD/DC, Guns n Roses, etc. exist (or existed). Have you heard the Soldier of Fortune? Great song.

You know I should really have picked a shorter username. You can call me Kristin if you want instead of typing out holychocolatestarfish every time.
Ketchup- I have heard the song Soldier of Fortune, and yes it is a great song. Have you ever listened to Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult? I don't know what it is, but I love that song.

:rotfl: That's exactly what my parents did to me! I used to not pay attention at all, but now I know tons of it
Ketchup, I meant that it's okay with me that you don't like Jimi. -shrugs- Not like I'd hate you or anything.

Cool. I'm really beginning to get into them. I have about 20 versions of one of their songs now... lol.

Try 'Eyes of the world' and 'terrapin station' those 2 songs got me hooked on them but the dead changed their genre alot through the years so even if you don't like them you ought to find something you like by them...

I wish my parents had done that too me, lol, I used to hate music until a few years ago.

I grew up on The Beatles, CCR, James Taylor, and Paul Simon (though I'm quite young for that kind of music)... not sure if some people would think the last two were "cool" but I can say they are very good songwriters :)

I love classic rock. I especially adore DLR era Van Halen... Fair Warning, Van Halen II, Van Halen I are all amazing CD's. Eddie's guitar playing is just amazing in those three CD's alone..
I have a huge soft spot for classic Ozzy Osbourne, Randy Rhoads, in my own humble opinion was one of the best guitarists that ever lived. I'm not a fan of live albums but the 'Tribute' one is a classic.
My husband was a huge Motley Crue fan back in the day (Theatre of Pain/Girls era) too.

The best of the best: Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon (others may argue The Wall); Led Zeppelin- IV (no arguing that); Jimi Hendrix- The Ultimate Experience; Moody Blues- Live at the Greek; The Doors- Absolutely Live!; Queen- Live killers; Aerosmith- Permanent Vacation.
I know this one is more metal than classic rock, but it's too awesome to deny. Metallica- Ride the Lightening.

I like to listen to classic rock as well. Most I listen to is music from the 80's, although I like some from 70's and 60's. My favourites include U2, Bryan Adams, CCR and Queen, just to name a few.

Good job!!! I hate it that a lot of kids these days are missing out on real talent! I'm not saying that there isn't talent around these days... I'm just saying I'd like to see Britney Spears write a -We Are The Champions Or I'd like to see Fergie write a -Yesterday! I happen to like Fergie but I don't think We'll ever see her in the Song Writers hall of fame!..... But anyways good job on not letting your kids go through life without hearing Imagine or Somebody To Love *applauds enamored* :) Because that would be a shame.

This is really weird but lately I've become obsessed with classic rock music. I'm like the only one in my generation that loves to listen to stuff like Led Zepplin, Twisted Sister, Nirvana, Quiet Riot and other bands. I find myself relating more to my friend's parents than my friends in the kind of music I listen to.

I listen to classic rock all the time. I'm not really an expert at naming all the different songs and which band does them, but if there is a song that really like, then I look up the title of the song and the name of the band. One of my favorite songs is "Burnin' for You" by Blue Oyster Cult.

Sometimes I find myself humming along to some of my mom's music, but that's rare. :rotfl:
I think Nickelback will be classified as classic rock some day, and I like them!
