"The Gift"

Obviously I'm some sort of nut for starting a third(or fourth, depending on how you see it) story, but i can't get this idea out of my head.

Disclaimer: Don't own Smallville(otherwise it would be a better show) or it's characters(otherwise they'd be protrayed right)

Summary: This is after Fade, Clark saves this mysterious woman and she gives him "The Gift".

*Kent House*

Clark walked down the stairs, after a long night of sleeping. He had been going to bed later and waking up later ever since the break up with Lana as well as founding out about her relationship with Lex. It seemed like the safest thing for him to do, because he could always dream. There would be no more nightmares for him, because his worst nightmare was reality.

Martha saw her son walking down the stairs as did she see the look in his eyes. The look of pain and suffering that had been there for weeks now. She knew there was nothing she could do and she knew, even if Jonathon was here, there's nothing he could have done. Sometimes there is no way to take away pain, no words or actions to heal what's broken, especially the heart. The heart is the most mysterious thing in the human body, because it plays be its own rules. It decides how you feel and it's what makes you go own.

Clark finally took a seat at the kitchen table. Martha put a plate of eggs and bacon in front of him. "Thanks." He mummered to her and started to eat.

"I'm going away for the next couple of days on business." Martha informed him.

"Okay." He replied, not looking up at her.

"Are you going be fine while I'm gone?" Martha asked.

"Yeah." He told her and she nodded sadly, knowing that wasn't the truth. He wasn't going to be fine and she wondered if he might ever be again.

*Daily Planet*

Clark and Chloe are walking into the Planet together talking. "Being Senator is a time consuming job." Chloe explained.

"I know and I think my mom handles it fine." Clark told her and Chloe nodded.

"I'm off at the Planet tonight and I heard Mission Impossible three just came out. Want to see it with me?" Chloe offered.

"No, I think I'll just head back to the farm." Clark said.

"Come on Clark, you can't hide out there forever." Chloe said, folding her arms, hoping to get her friend to go out and move on.

"I'm sorry Chloe, I just don't feel up to it." Clark said and Chloe sighed.

"Alright, then I'll call you tonight." Chloe said, disappointed.

"Okay, bye." Clark walked out of the planet as Chloe looked on sadly.

*The streets of Metropolis*

Clark decided to take a walk before superspeeding home. Everything in Metropolis was so big compared to everything in Smallville. He remember walking here every night, when he ran away to Metropolis two years ago. He enjoyed the bright lights. As he was walking, he saw two men holding a woman a knife point. He walked up to them.

"Let her go." He told the two men, who turned to him with a smirk.

"Get out of here kid, before you get hurt." The man with the knife told him as the woman cried with fear.

"I won't ask again." Clark told them and one man turned around to hit Clark, but Clark grabbed his fist. Then threw him into a wall.

"Ok, let's see how you like metal right in the chest." The man lunged at Clark with his knife, but the knife broke on Clark's chest. Clark then grabbed the man and threw into the same wall he threw the other guy.

"Here you go." Clark said, handing the woman her purse back. She looked at Clark in shock.

"Thank you." She said, Clark gave a small smile and walked away. Unknown to Clark, he was being watched.

*The Loft, later in the night*

Clark is staring at a book, when he hears footsteps. "Who's there?" He asked.

"I saw what you did today." A voice said and Clark turned to see someone standing in front of his window. Her appearences are hidden.

"Who are you?" Clark wanted to know.

"Just a friend." The person told him.

"What do you want?" Clark asked.

"To reward for, for being you." The person said.

"For who I am?" Clark pretended to be confused to see what the person knew.

"Yes, Kal-el." The person replied.

"How do you know that?" Clark needed to know.

"It doesn't matter. What matters is why I came here." The person explained.

"Then why did you come here?" Clark questioned the person.

"To give you, the gift." The person told him.

"The gitf? What gift?" Clark was confused.

"You shall see." The person said and Clark turned away for a second, when he turned back around, she was gone.

CHAPTER TWO

*Clark's Bedroom*

Clark is laying in his bed thinking. 'What gift was that person talking about? Who was that person? I don't know who that person is or what the gift is, but I could sure use one.' Clark thought, then feel asleep.

*The alternate future, the Kent House*

Clark woke up and rolled around in his bed. It felt like any normal day, except when he got up he looked at the bed. "I remember my bed being smaller than this." Clark sratched his head and also noticed the room. "I also remember my room being smaller. What the heck is going on?" He put on a shirt and sweat pants, then headed downstiars. On his way downstairs he smelt something. "Mom?" He asked and when he came downstairs, his eyes widened as he saw Lana making breakfast.
"Lana?" He asked in complete shock as he walked to the table. She turned to him, smiling and then gave him a kiss.

"Good morning." She said cheerfully. Clark couldn't believe what he was seeing and did she just kiss him?

"Uh....What's going on?" Clark asked, obviously having no clue.

"I made us breakfast." Lana told him.

"I can see that, but the question is why." Clark said and Lana looked at him questionabily.

"Because I'm your wife and I love you." Lana replied and kissed Clark again.

"My what?!?" Clark eyes widened and eyebrows shoot up. Before Lana could answer, a little boy came downstairs.

"Hey mom , hey dad." The kid said, Lana smiled and give him a kiss on the cheek.

"Did you sleep well, Joey?" Lana asked with a smile.

"Yeah, I slept great. I had this dream that I flew to the moon. It was cool, I can't wait to tell all my friends. They're going to love it." Joey explained. Joey was their 7 year old son. Clark was looking between him and Lana, trying to figure what the heck was going on. Lana handed joey a plate, then sat down with her son and began to eat. Clark just continued to stand there.

"Clark, what are you doing?" Lana asked.

"I'm.....Uh...nothing." He said and then cautiously sat down.

"So Joey, what are you going to learn in school today?" Lana questioned him.

"We're going to learn about wild animals, they're cool." He said with excitement as Lana smiled widely at him.

"They sure are, don't you think so Clark?" She asked, turning to Clark.

"Yeah..." Clark said, eating his food, still very confused. Soon, they finished their breafast and Lana sent Joey up to get ready for school. Clark got up and started to walk around. He saw pictures of him and Lana at their wedding. There were ones of them at the hospital with Joey as a baby. Then there was just one of them under their oak tree. He didn't know what was happening, but he couldn't help, but smile. He picked up their wedding photo and stared at it, almost tearing up. "How" He asked, when Lana came up behind him, putting her hand on his shoulder.

"You seem out of it, is everything okay?" She said, with a concerned look on her face.

"I don't know." He told her, rubbing his face with his hand.

"Want to talk about it?" Lana said, taking his hand, giving him a reassuring smile.

"No, it's nothing." Clark lied, giving a fake smile.

"Does this have anything to do with Superman?" She questioned him.

"Superman? Who's that?" He sincerely wanted to know.

"Clark it's me here, you don't have to hide from me." Lana told him.

"I'm Superman?" He said in confusion.

"There isn't anyone else who shoot fire from his eyes or can out run a bullet." Lana explained and began again. "And there's only one hero and person like you." Lana said, beaming with pride as she said the last part. 'She knows my secret.' Was the first thing that came into Clark's head.

"You're okay with that? You know, me being Superman and having all these powers." Clark questioned her.

"Off course I am, I love you with all my heart. I don't care that you have powers, I never have." Lana said and Clark looked lovingly into her eyes. It had seemed like forever since he last did. He almost forgot how beautiful they were.

"I'm all ready." Joey said as Clark and Lana eyes broke apart.

"Okay, then let's go." Lana said, grabbing Joey's hand and leading him out, she turned to Clark before she left. "Your suits are in the closet, both of them." She told him and then left.

"Suits? Both of them?" Clark looked confused and then superspeeded into his room. He opened the closet door and there it is. The red and blue superman suit. "Is this my destiny?" He asked himself. Then there he heard the phone ring.

"Hello?" He said.

"Hey it's me. Don't forget your glasses, they're in the bathroom. You can't go to the Planet without and their suit." Lana told him.

"Alright." He said.

"Love you, bye." Lana said and Clark hung up.

"I work at the Daily Planet?" Clark said with curiousity. He looked at his suit or tie. "What was I thinking?" Clark said, looking at it.

*The Daily Planet*

Clark had put on his suit and his glass. He felt like a nerd in this stuff. Hopefully Chloe would be able to shed some light on this. Sure enough, there she was, sitting at her desk with her computer. "Chloe." He said hurrying to her desk.

"What's up?" She said giving him a smile.

"I need to talk to you, now." Clark said, sounding paniced.

"Okay." Chloe replied as she followed Clark to some where private.

"I don't know what's going on Chloe. One day, me and Lana are broke up. The next day, we're married, with a kid. I don't get it." Clark explained, clearly confused and he began again. "Then there's this suit and superman, I have no clue what's going on." Clark said.

"This is your life Clark, how can you not know what's going on?" Chloe asked.

"That's the thing Chloe, this isn't my life." Clark said and Chloe shoot him a strange look.

CHAPTER THREE

"Clark, I think you've finally taken to many bullets to the brain" Chloe laughed.

"This isn't funny Chloe." Clark gave her a stern look.

"No, what's funny is that you've come here claiming the perfect life you have, isn't yours. Now, we have important things to do." Chloe said and walked back toward her desk.

"Yeah." Was all Clark could say. She was right, he had the girl of his dreams as his wife and a son. How could he complain? After thinking about that, Clark walked back to Chloe's desk.

"Check it out." Chloe said, pointing toward her computer.

"What's that?" Clark asked.

"LuthorCorp records of a substance being imported by them. It looks like their smuggling something in and whatever it is, must be pretty important." Chloe explained.

"How long has this been gong on?" Clark wanted to know.

"A couple of months now." Chloe said with concern.

"We have to imform the police." Clark told her.

"And tell them what?" Chloe questioned him.

"What we know." Clark replied.

"It doesn't matter what we know, because we don't have substantial proof." Chloe said.

"Maybe I should talk to him." Clark suggested.

"I don't think you're the one who should talk to him." Chloe said as Clark shoot her a look.

"Then who should?" Clark asked.

"Superman." Chloe said and Clark nodded.

*LuthorCorp*

Lex is sitting at his desk, when he heards something and looks up to see Superman standing right in front of him. "Lex." Superman said and Lex gave him a smirk.

"Superman, nice of you to find time to visit me. I know you're schedule is usually booked with saving people." Lex acknowledged.

"We need to talk." Superman told him.

"I'm guessing that's why you came here." Lex said.

"I've heard that LuthorCorp is smuggling in product from the Middle East." Superman informed him.

"And what would you base that on?" Lex questioned him.

"On the information I received from my source who saw it in the LuthorCorp record files." Superman replied.

"From Chloe, right?" Lex said. Superman was taken a back by that comment.

"It doesn't matter who it came from, the truth is it's happening." Superman said.

"Isn't this just like old times? You come here and accuse me of something I didn't do. Then you expect me to give in and tell you what you want to hear." Lex smirked and Superman shook his head.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Superman said, staring back at Lex's smirk.

"You never do, do you, Clark?" Lex said, still smirking at him.

"My name is Superman, Clark Kent is a reporter." Superman paused and then spoke again. "If I find out, that you're smuggling in something that is going to hurt the people of Metropolis, I will be back. I promise you." Superman glared at Lex and then flew away.

*Kent House*

Clark, Lana and Joey, sat at their kitchen table, eating dinner that Lana made. 'I never realized how good of a cook Lana was.' Clark thought. "When did you learn to cook like this Lana?" Clark asked and Lana smiled at him.

"Some Martha Kent cooking lessons can do a world of wonder." Lana said and Clark smiled.

"How is my mom, by the way?" Clark asked.

"She called yesterday, she's doing fine. She should be home from her trip tomorrow." Lana explained.

"Yah, grandma." Joey shouted, Lana and Clark smiled at him.

"Yah, indeed." Clark said. After they finished dinner, Lana sent Joey up to do his homework. Clark and Lana went into the living room to talk.

"Lana, can I ask you something?" Clark said, looking into her eyes.

"You can ask me anything Clark." Lana said, giving him a reassuring smile.

"Are you happy?" Clark said, almost afraid to ask the question. Lana looked at him, surprised by his question.

"Did I ever tell what I said to you the day you died in the hospital?" Lana asked.

"No." Clark shook his head.

"I told you, no one could make me happier than you. You've made my dream come true. All I've ever wanted is a family with the man I love and now I have that." Lana said as Clark tried to whole back tears.

"You really mean that?" Clark wanted to make sure he wasn't dreaming.

"Yes." Lana said, kissing him. Finally, they broke the kiss and Clark caressed her cheek.

"I love you." Clark said.

"I love you too." Lana said and they kissed again.

CHAPTER FOUR

*Late that night*

Clark walked up to his loft. It was just how he had remembered it. With the exception of the picture on his desk. He picked it up and looked at it. It was a picture of him and Lana, with Joey was a baby in Lana's hands. He could see the smile on Lana's face, how happy she looked. It made him upset at how he acted in his real life, because maybe he could have this. Maybe it was simpler then he made it. "I see you are enjoying the gift." Clark turned around and saw the person again.

"Who are you?" Clark asked, turning to the person.

"Why does it matter?" The person said with a question of their own.

"Because I want to know who's doing this." Clark replied.

"Except you don't need to know. All you need to do is accept it, because it is a gift from one who loves you." The person explained.

"Why was it given to me?" Clark wanted to know.

"To make you see." The person told him.

"See what?" Clark questioned him.

"What could be yours." The person said.

"This could be mine?" Clark turned back to the picture, staring at it.

"Yes, Kal-el it can be." The person told him.

"But what about everything else?" Clark said, turning back to the person.

"What about it?" The person said.

"I can't change what has already happened in my world How am I suppose to make everything right?" Clark wanted to know, staring frantically at the person.

"It's up to you, it has always been" The person said and then disappeared.

"Clark, are you up here?" Lana called out and Clark put down the picture.

"Yeah, I'm up here." Clark said. Lana walked up to meet him.

"What are you doing?" She looked up at him curiously.

"Just thinking and this has always been the place of that." Clark said and Lana smiled.

"Yes it has, so what's on your mind?" Lana questioned him.

"How I got here." Clark confessed.

"What do you mean?" Lana said, not understanding.

"It feels like yesterday that we were broken up, because I couldn't tell you my secret." Clark admitted, the pain filling his eyes again.

"I must admit, that was one of the worse days of my life." Lana said, the sadness filling her eyes as well.

"Do you remember when I told you the truth?" Clark asked, because obviously he didn't know.

*Flashback, Clark's Loft, Lana goes to tell Clark about her relationship with Lex*

"You can't trust Lex." Clark tells Lana as she looks angrily at him.

"But I can trust you? Clark, we broke up and that was your choice." Lana says, then walks away. Clark stares at her in sadness and begins to turn back, but instead superspeeds right in front of Lana.

"We need to talk." Clark tells her as looks at him in shock.

"How did you do that?" She asked him.

"It's one of my abilities." Clark said, looking closely at her reaction of shock.

"Abilities?" Lana said, looking at him intensely.

"Yes, it's only part of a lot we need to talk about." Clark said with a weak smile

*End of Flashback*

"Then we talked and you told me everything." Lana explained.

"All I ever wanted to do was to tell you the truth." Clark sincerely said.

"I know and when you finally did, everything turned out okay. Wouldn't you say?" Lana asked, taking his hand.

"No." Clark said, pausing to look into Lana's eyes. "I'd say it turned out great." Clark said, looking lovingly into eyes and giving him her a small kiss.

"Now can we please get to bed? I do have to go into the flower shop early tomorrow." Lana told him and Clark smiled.

"Yeah, we can go now." Clark said. He and Lana then went back into the house, hand in hand.

*The next morning*

Clark awakes with Lana in his arms and he smiles widely. He kisses her lightly on the head and she begins to stir.

"Morning." She said.

"Morning beauitful." Clark said and Lana turned to him.

"After all the times you see me, especially in the morning, how can you say that?" Lana asked him.

"How can I say you're beautiful?" Clark questioned her.

"Yeah." Lana said.

"Because it's true. You are the most beautiful woman, whether in the night, afternoon, evening or night." Clark said, Lana looked up at him lovingly and kissed him.

"Thank you for always making me feel special." Lana said, becoming a little emotional.

"I'm only returning the favor." Clark replied and they eyes locked. Then they leaned in and kissed passionately.

"Mama, daddy!" Joey rushed in and jumped into their bed. "Ewwww" Joey said seeing their kiss, Clark and Lana broke a part. "Dad, don't you know girls have cooties?" Joey said and Clark laughed.

"No, I didn't, but now that I do know." Clark jumps out of the bed jokingly.

"Hey!" Lana folds her arms, pretending to be upset.

"I'm just kidding." Clark comes back in bed and gives Lana a kiss.

"Joey, girls don't have cooties." Lana told him.

"That's right son, they don't." Clark repeated what Lana said.

"Are you sure." Joey asked Clark.

"I'm sure, trust me, I've inspected your mother very closely and she doesn't have them." Clark told him and then grinned at Lana.

"Alright, I believe you dad." Joey gave in.

"Good, now go get dressed." Lana instructed him and he ran out. "Were you ever like that Clark?" Lana turned to Clark.

"No, I was in love and no cooties could scare me away." Clark told her and gave her another kiss.

This is cool. Now Clark knows that if he tells Lana everything in the "real" world, there is a chance he can have the beautiful future he's getting to temporarily experience in this future reality. It is like Lexmas, except, I believe, Clark will go back and make the right choices, whereas, Lex didn't. Right, SVM? Well, PPMS so we can find out.

CHATPER FIVE

*That night at the Kent's house*

Clark, Joey and Lana were eating dinner. "How was your day at work honey?" Lana stopped eating to ask him.

"It was fine, I actually don't know how I do it." Clark paused. "And I mean all of it." He said to Lana raising his eyebrows so she understood.

"You do it, because you're one of a kind." Lana said, smiling to him and he return her smile.

"He sure is." Martha said, walking into the house.

"Mom!" Clark turned to see her.

"Grandma!" Joey screamed and ran into Martha's arms.

"Here's my big boy. You've grown so big since I last saw you, I might not be able to pick you anymore." Martha told him.

"No way grandma, I'm not even big to play football." Joey said.

"That's because you're not old enough." Lana said.

"I am too!" Joey replied.

"Now, now, you'll be able to play soon enough, so don't get upset." Martha calmed him down.

"Sorry grandma." Joey pouted.

"It's okay, maybe you could ask your dad to play catch with you. He was a great football player." Martha told him.

"Can we dad, can we?" Joey ran to him.

"Off couse" Clark nodded.

*Later that night in the loft*

Clark stood in that same faithful spot he had for years. A smile covering his face after playing catch with his son. This is everything he had ever wanted. Most people dream of becoming rich or famous, but not Clark. Clark dreamed of having a family when the girl he loved and he had always put Lana in that place. Until now, he always thought that dream was over, but maybe it wasn't.

"I haven't seen that in a while." Clark turned around to see the mysterious woman.

"That's because I haven't been happy in a while." Clark replied.

"I'm glad, afterall, it was a gift." The woman said.

"I don't how to thank you." Clark gratefully told her.

"You don't need to thank me. I'm just sorry to has to end tomorrow." The woman said and Clark's eyes widened in horror.

"End? No, why does it have to end?" Clark asked afraid of the answer.

"It was only suppose to last three days. I'm sorry Kal-el." The woman said and then disappearded before Clark could say anything.

"You know, I use to think you would grow out of this place." Martha confessed as she walked up the stairs.

"I don't think I ever could grow out of this place." Clark admitted.

"I couldn't help but notice something was wrong when I walked in." Martha said, stepping up on the last step.

"It's nothing." Clark tried to convince her.

"Clark, I'm your mother, I live to detect these kind of things." Martha smiled and Clark chuckled a little.

"I don't even think you could understand this one mom." Clark told her.

"Wow, it's that big, huh?" Martha asked.

"It is." Clark nodded his head.

"Well, I'm sure whatever is wrong that you can handle it. You're a grown man, you're superman and most important my son." Martha said with confidence.

"I wish I had the same confidence." Clark said, turning away and Martha stared at him sadly.

*The next morning*

Lana wakes up alone in her bed. "Clark never wakes up early." She said to herself and walked downstairs. She was amazed to see Clark cooking and Joey sitting at the table already dressed. "Clark Kent, since when do you cook?" Lana folded her arms amused.

"I thought today was a special day, so I figured why not?" Clark smiled at her.

"Special, huh? What's going on?" Lana questioned him.

"I was just hoping we could spend the day together. All of us." Clark said, motioning to Joey.

"Clark, Joey has school today and I can't just close the shop without scheduling it first." Lana explained. Clark then walked up to her and took her hands in his.

"It would mean the world to me if I could have this day." Clark said, looking deeply into Lana's eyes.

"Are you sure everything is okay?" Lana wanted to know.

"Yes, I just want to spend the day with the people I love." Clark replied.

"Okay, we can do that." Lana gave in, seeing as it was probably best.

"Thanks." Clark kissed Lana and went back to cooking.

CHAPTER SIX

*Crater Lake, that night*

Clark and Lana sat together on a blanket laid out as Joey played near the lake. They had just spent the day together. First, they went to the park, then to a movie and now the lake. Clark was having the best time of his life. It wasn't often that you got to
live your dream, it was having it end that was the hard part. The more he had fun that day, the more it was becoming harder for him to know that it was going to have to end. 'So much for my happy ending' Clark thought and sighed, looking out into the sky.

Lana turned to him and noticed his reaction. She had been watching him more closely than usual today, because she thought something had been up with him. He looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders again, like it was high school all over again. She knew she had to find out what was bothering him. Lana then went up to Clark and laid her head on his chest, causing Clark to look down and smile. "Hey." She whispered.

"Hey." He whispered back, laying his chin lightly on her head.

"I don't think I have to tell you that I always know when something is bothering you." Lana said. Clark smiled knowingly.

"No, you don't, you've always been able to read me like a book." Clark acknowledged. Lana lifted her head up and cupped his cheek with her hand.

"Then tell me what's wrong?" Lana pleaded in a soft tone, looking deeply into Clark's eyes. Clark did his best to keep eye contact, but it seemed impossible. Every time Lana stared into his eyes like that, asking for the truth or what was wrong, he would freeze, unable to tell her.

"I don't even think you could understand........." Clark said, before trailing off and turning away from her.

“Clark…” Lana began, making sure he was looking at her. “I can’t understand if you don’t tell me, just like with the secrets in high school. However, just like in high school, maybe I’ll understand and maybe I won’t, but that doesn’t change the fact that I love you. Whatever problem you’re having, I want to help, because I love you. If you’re hurting, then so I am, it has always been that way and always will. You should never have to go through it alone, not while I’m here.” Lana said, truly speaking from her heart. Clark had never realized how strong she was.

“When did you get so strong?” Clark asked with a smile on his face.

“The day you walked into my life.” Lana replied and they both shared a smile. Then Clark took a deep breath.

“I’m afraid Lana.” Clark admitted.

“Afraid of what?” Lana immediately asked him.

“I’m afraid that I might wake up tomorrow and this will all be gone. That I’m going to go back to the day when you were with Lex and you didn’t know my secret.” Clark confessed, fighting the sadness within himself.

“Why would you be afraid of that?” Lana wanted to know.

“Because it’s the way things really are.” Clark said in a loud tone, before getting up.

“What are you talking about?” Lana said, getting up.

“This isn’t real Lana. This is just a dream!” Clark said sternly.

“No, it isn’t! This is what we are with just our love. There’s no secrets or lies, just us.” Lana said, grabbing his hands. “Just us! Clark, I’ve always loved you. No matter what happened, I could never take away my heart or tell it how to feel. All things we said and did, couldn’t change how we felt.” Lana told him.

“I lost you…….” Was all Clark could mutter.

“You could never lose me.” Lana reassured him.

“But what if I didn’t tell you my secret that day? Would we have still had a chance?” Clark asked, really needed to hear say yes.

“I don’t know, but there is nothing that could make me stop loving you.” Lana said and Clark smiled faintly, not getting the answer he was looking for.

*Kent House*

Clark, Lana and Joey walked in the dorm, to see Martha drinking coffee. “How was your picnic at Crater Lake?” Martha asked them with a smile.

“It was so cool grandma, look at all the crabs I collected.” Joey said, showing Martha the bucket.

“Very nice honey.” Martha smiled brightly at him.

“Time for bed sweetheart.” Lana told him.

“Do I have to mom?” Joey gave her the puppy dog lip.

“Yes, now get going.” Lana said, ignoring his plead.

“Fine.” Joey gave in, Lana gave Joey a kiss on the check and then he ran into Clark’s arm. “Goodnight dad.” Joey hugged him tightly.

“Goodnight son.” Clark said, holding on to him equally as tight, before letting him go. Clark looked on sadly as Joey ran up the stairs.

“I think I’m going to hit the sack.” Lana yawned.

“Me too.” Martha agreed and walked upstairs.

“Okay, I’ll be up later.” Clark said to Lana.

“You sure, because when I said I was going to hit the sack. It doesn’t mean that I wanted to sleep.” Lana said with a wink.

“As much as I would like that, I really just need some fresh air.” Clark said with an apologetic look.

“Alright.” Lana said with a sad tone. “I love you.” Lana then said with a warm smile.

“I love you too.” Clark said and then kissed her lightly on the forehead before walking out.

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark stood in his loft looking at picture of his family. He had taken it off his desk in the loft, the same desk where he had Lana’s picture before he saw her kiss Lex. Life had never seemed fair to Clark and it appeared like life had struck again.

“That’s a beautiful family.” The mysterious woman said, looking over Clark’s shoulder.

“What do you want?” Clark asked looking up at her angrily.

“Why are you so upset Kal-el?” The woman questioned him.

“Why? WHY!?” Clark shouted not believing she could even ask him that kind of question. “I’m upset, because you’re tearing me away from the only thing in life that has ever matter to me. You’re destroying my dream. What kind of person or human being would do that to someone? How could you do this to me?” Clark threw his hands up in frustration and pain.

“I did it, because I love you Kal-el.” The woman said a in genuine tone.

“I don’t even know who you are?” Clark looked at her confused and then the woman came into the light. She had beautiful raven flowing hair and eyes as blue as the ocean on sunny day.

“I’m your mother Kal-el, I’m Lara.” She confessed as Clark stared at her in disbelief. He had so many questions going through his head. Where has she been all these years? Why didn’t she come see him before? Why was she here now? Did she want what Jor-el wanted or was she different? He didn’t know what to do.

“Mom?” He barely muttered.

“Yes, my son.” She smiled back at him. Clark finally composed himself to ask a question.

“Where have you been?” Clark asked, a question that had plagued him ever since he was old enough to think it.

“I’ve been watching you and waiting for the right time to make myself known.” She explained to him.

“Waiting for the right time? Why wouldn’t you see me as soon as you could? “ Clark needed to know.

“Because you have a mother and it was no longer my place to interfere. You had a new life and I was proud of the way it was going. I’ve always loved you and I did what I thought was best.” She told him.

“How could not coming to see me, be best?” Clark questioned her in disbelief.

“Maybe it wasn’t, but that didn’t change the fact that I loved you with all my heart. It isn’t every day that a mother has to send away their child to another planet for his own safety and for the planet’s own. That was a pain worse than dying.” Lara said, the sadness very evident in her face and Clark noticed it.

“You really do love me?” Clark questioned her and she smiled.

“Very much, you’re my only son.” She told him with pride.

“I wish Jor-el felt the same.” Clark sighed.

“Oh my sweet Kal-el, he does love you.” Lara said sincerely.

“How can you say that after everything he has put me through?” Clark said confused.

“Because he is trying to prepare you for the future. I don’t agree with everything that he’s done, but he has done with them with a pure heart. All he’s trying to do is make you see.” Lara assured him.

“See what?” Clark waned to know.

“Who you are. You’re not a normal person my son, you’re special.” Lara said with love.

“I already knew that.” Clark replied.

“But you don’t accept it. Kal-el is a part of you and he always will be.” Lara tried to explain.

“I just want to be Clark Kent.” He told her and she smiled at him.

“You are, no one can ever take away Clark Kent. He always be inside of you, because he’s a part of you, just like Kal-el is. Jor-el has always understood this, but you’re the only one who can. Just remember, accepting Kal-el doesn’t make you any less of Clark Kent.” Lara said and Clark nodded, for the first time understanding what his biological parents had said.

“Thanks mom, I now understand that, but what I don’t understand is why you’re putting me through this? Why are you showing me this?” Clark also needed to know.

“I just wanted you to see what you could have Clark.” Lara replied.

“What I could have? Have you seen what has happened in the real world? I can’t change what has happened between me or Lana and I still don’t want her getting hurt. Everything may be fine today, but I know you can never be sure what’s going to happen tomorrow.” Clark said.

“Are you happy?” Lara asked, ignoring his questions.

“No, but that shouldn’t matter, all that matters is her being safe.” Clark said without flinching.

“You being happy always matters and don’t think it’s her decision to make whether she wants to be safe or be with you?” Lara questioned him.

“I love her too much to watch her die again.” Clark said lowering his eyes in pain. Lara then lifted his chin and held it up her hand.

“But do you love her enough to allow her to make that decision herself? The question you have ask yourself is, do you want what’s in the Kent house right now or do you want what’s happening in the real world? And are you willing to give something as priceless as your love for each other?” Lara asked him those questions and he looked at her thoughtfully.

“I just don’t know if I can fix it, she told me it was over forever.” Clark said, shaking his head sadly .

“Forever is just a word, love is eternal.” Lara released his chin and began to walk away. “Just remember Kal-el, I love you.” Lara said before disappearing.

*Kent House*

Clark walked into Joey’s bedroom and looked down at his son. After a couple minutes he walked into his bedroom to see Lana sleeping. He sat down on the bed, taking his hand and brushing hair out of Lana’s face.

CAHPTER SEVEN

*Kent House*

Clark wakes up the sun shining in his face. He slowly lifts his head hoping maybe he was still in his own house, with his family. However, he looked up and saw the same thing he had for 18 years, his small room with his small bed. Clark sighed and got up, put on some clothes, then went downstairs. He looked at the all the pictures of him and his parents. Finally, he picked one up of him as a kid with his parents. The words of his mother going through his head, “Forever is just a word, love is eternal.” The question then became, was it too late?

*Lana and Chloe's dorm room*

Chloe is sitting in her dorm room typing, when she hears a knock. "Come in." She called. Clark then walked in and Chloe smiled. "Finally nice to see him leave the house." Chloe thought.

"Hey." Clark said warmly.

"Hey." Chloe replied, Clark noticed Chloe was typing something.

"I see the Daily Planet is keeping you busy." Clark said, checking out what she had written.

"Actually, it's for my journalism class. Anyways, what's up? I'm surprised you left the house." Chloe acknowledged.

"Well........I was hoping to talk." Clark said, not sure how to tell Chloe about what he was going to do.

"Okay, shoot." Chloe said, thinking he meant talking to her.

"Chloe, you weren't the one I was hoping to talk with." Clark said, avoiding eye contact and Chloe raised her eyebrows in curiosity.

"Then that would mean you're here to talk to......." Chloe trailed off when it her. He was here to talk to Lana, but why?

"Yeah." Clark replied, knowing she knew the answer to who he was coming here to talk to.

"So many questions come to mind, but the first one would be WHY?" Chloe emphasized the why.

"Because I've made a choice and I’m not backing down from it, not again." Clark said and Chloe looked at him confused, not sure what he meant.

"What choice? Clark what's going on?" Chloe questioned him.

"I'm not giving up my love, not without a fight." Clark said, determination in his eyes.

“Clark, it’s over. I told you the day you decided to break up with her that this was it, there would be no going back. Lana even told you it was over forever.” Chloe reminded him.

“I know what you told me and I know what she said. I also know she is with Lex and that she probably wants nothing to do with me.” Clark paused, looking into Chloe’s eyes. “But I don’t do this and I give up, I could never forgive myself. I don’t care if I have to wait forever, I will wait as long as it takes to get her back. I will not be a coward anymore.” Clark said and Chloe looked at him shocked, he had never seen this from Clark before. It was like he had transformed from this scared kid to a strong man.

“Wow, I don’t know what to say. I mean what made you want to do this?” Chloe asked, clearly confused.

“Let’s say someone I loved opened up my eyes.” Clark said with a smile.

“Okay and I’m guessing you want me to leave?” Chloe said, still taken aback my the situation.

“I think it would be better if we were alone.” Clark told her.

“You’re probably right.” Chloe then took a bag and packed some clothes. When she finished, she went over to Clark and kissed him on the cheek. “Good luck.” Chloe said with love.

“Thanks.” Clark said, then Chloe left.

*A little later that night in their dorm room*

Lana walked into her dorm room, she had just been at Lex’s mansion. She liked spending time with Lex, he always so honest and treated her like a queen. He wasn’t anything like…….. Lana trailed off when she saw Clark sitting on Chloe’s bed staring at her. “Hey.” He said, getting up.

“Hey.” She replied, rather coldly.

“I bet you’re wondering why I’m here.” Clark said and Lana nodded.

“It had crossed my mind, but I’m sure you’re just waiting for Chloe.” Lana said, putting her purse down and going to her desk.

“Actually, I wasn’t.” Lana turned to him curiously.

“Then that would mean you were waiting for me?” Lana concluded.

“Yeah, I was.” Clark confirmed her notion.

“Listen, Clark I don’t want to talk about me and Lex anymore.” Lana told him.

“Neither do I, I didn’t come here for that.” Clark quickly replied.

“Then why are you here?” Lana wanted to know.

“I’m here to tell you the truth.” Clark said, lowering his head, trying to avoid contact. Lana got up from her desk and stood next to her bed.

“The truth? Clark that boat has passed, you don’t need to tell me anything. We’re not together, so it’s pointless.” Lana said and turned to the door. “It’s been a long night, you think you could go? I’ll tell Chloe to call you.” Lana opened the door for him.

“I can’t go, not until we talk.” Clark said and Lana looked at him questionably.

“I don’t want to talk to you. Now, please leave.” Lana told him. Clark then got up and walked in front of her.

“You know what I regret the most about our relationship?” Clark asked and began again. “I regret not telling you every single day that you were the only girl for me. That no matter what happened, you would be the only girl I will ever love. That there’s no other girl who I can love, because my heart belongs to you. I never just thought of you as my girlfriend. I thought of as my future wife, the girl I want to grow old with and die with.” Clark said, looking directly into her eyes as Lana tried to stay strong. She kept telling herself that he broke her heart, over and over again.

“You don’t keep secrets from the people you love. As for us, it’s over forever, just like I told you.” Lana snapped back.

“Then I’ll wait forever for you, because no other girl is worth it to me. I don’t care what I have to do. For the first time in my life, I’m willing to sacrifice anything for our love. I know your hurting inside and so am I, which is why I came here. I came here to tell you the truth. I’m begging you to hear me out and if you don’t like what I have to say I’ll never bother you again.” Clark pleaded with her. She looked into his eyes, seeing the passion in his eyes and finally gave in, shutting the door . She motioned for them to sit on the bed.

“Go ahead.” She said to him.

“This past summer was the best time of my life. It was like a dream come true to me. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The reason it was so good, was because I didn’t have my secrets. I was secret-less. Which is also why we were allowed to have sex.” Clark explained.

“And what secrets were those?” Lana asked, hoping to finally get an answer.

“We’ll get to that in the end.” Clark said and then began again. “Then after I was killed and brought back, my secrets came with it. Which is why I went back to lying and why we didn’t have sex. I’ve always wanted to tell you my secret, but I couldn’t put my self up to for many reasons, one, was because I didn’t want to mess up what we had.” Clark told her.

“Which was a relationship with secrets and lies.” Lana said, folding her arms.

“No, I didn’t want to lose you. If I told you my secret, I didn’t know if I would lose. I didn’t want to take that chance when I was already with you. So, instead we just went back to the secrets and lies. That was until I thought I was losing you, which then I knew I had to tell you. I asked you to my loft the day of my dad’s election to tell you my secret.” Clark confessed and Lana looked at him almost like she knew he did.

“The question then becomes why did you chicken out?” Lana asked.

“Because I knew what would have happened if I did?” Clark admitted.

“What do you mean you knew?” Lana wanted to know.

“That wasn’t the first time you came to my loft that day.” Clark told her and her eyes widened.

“What are you saying?” Lana asked with utmost curiosity.

“I turned back time, because of what happened that day.” Clark said, avoiding eye contact.

“You did? But why?” Lana needed to know.

“We’ll get to that, just let me finish.” Clark said and Lana nodded. “When you left my loft that second time, I had to come to face the truth, that I could never be with you. After what happened that day, I didn’t think I could ever tell you. Then because of my mistakes, my dad ended up dying that day.” Clark said, trying to stifle his tears.

“There’s no way that could have been your fault Clark. Your dad had heart problems.” Lana reassured him.

“Heart problems that my secret gave him. If it wasn’t for me he never would have had heart problems. After that day, every time I looked at you, I knew it was over. I knew that I could never be with and it broke my heart. Each day was like torture knowing it was seconds away from being over. I didn’t know what to do. Did I ever tell you my dream?” Clark asked.

“No.” Lana shock her head, trying to withhold her tears.

“Ever since I was five, I’ve dreamed of having a family. I dreamed of having a beautiful wife and a child or children. From the first moment I saw you, I knew my wife was you. I knew that there was no other girl I’d rather have that be, than you. With each passing day, that dream died.” Clark paused and looked at Lana before starting again. “I want you to know my secrets, I want you to know everything about me, but I want you to know the risks involved in knowing.” Clark said a she nodded.

“Ok.” Lana nodded her head.

“Ever since I can remember, my secret has caused my family pain. My parents have been hurt numerous times because of it. My mother lost her baby, because of it. I ran away that year, because of it. My dad had heart problems, because he tried to save me from my secret. My dad is died, because of my secret. My best friend in the whole world is gone, because he couldn’t’ handle the burden of my secrets. I’ve had the FBI, Lionel and Lex after me, because of my secret. There’s just so much trouble that comes with knowing it Lana and I’ve always wanted to protect you. Protecting you means more to me than anything and I would sacrifice anything to protect you, even my dreams. I would rather die, then for you to feel pain, because of my secret. And I wanted to tell you this, before I asked you this question. I want you to have all the facts about my secret, because it isn’t a small thing, this is something you couldn’t imagine.” Clark said as Lana paid close attention.

“Please, tell me.” Lana begged.

“Lana, I want you take a day to think about this. I mean clearly think about this. This isn’t a decision to be taken lightly. If you decide you want to know, then come to my loft tomorrow night.” Clark paused and got up, he went to the door. “I love you and I will wait for you forever, because you are worth it.” Clark then left. Tears, then rolled on Lana’s cheek.

CHAPTER EIGHT

*The next day, the girls dorm*

It’s about 7 in the morning when Chloe walked in, she closed the door lightly and is shocked to see Lana sitting on her bed, with her clothes from yesterday still on. “Late night?” Chloe asked, putting her stuff on her bed.

“Too much to think about to sleep.” Lana admitted, staring straight ahead.

“So, as for the conversation, I’m guessing that’s actually a good sign. If it went bad I’m sure you would still be asleep now, because I couldn’t imagine things between you two getting much worse.” Chloe said, putting her stuff away.

“No……” Lana paused, staring straight away, clearly deep in thought. Then suddenly she turned to Chloe. “How long have you known?” Lana asked. Chloe stopped and stared straight away when she heard the question, before turning to Lana.

“Did Clark tell you I knew?” Chloe wanted to know.

“No, he didn’t, but I think it’s pretty obvious that you do know.” Lana confessed.

“Lana……..” Chloe began, but couldn’t find the words.

“I can’t believe you would never tell me. How can I ever trust you again?” Was it because you wanted him back? Why? Why would you keep something a secret that was hurting your two best friends? Please, tell me, because I don’t understand!” Lana said, shouting the last words. Chloe looked at her in shame, barely able to respond.

“I….It wasn’t my secret to tell.” Chloe said in a pleading fashion.

“But it was your secret to keep? Despite knowing what it did to your friends?” Lana said, staring Chloe down. Chloe looked away and stood that way before finally turning back to Lana.

“I’m sorry, but I did. I never wanted to hurt you, but I couldn’t betray him. The truth is, I love you both and it killed me seeing what happened between you, knowing I might have been able to do something about it. I had ask myself every day if what I was doing was right. The conclusion I made every time was that I had to keep his secret from you, because it wouldn’t be right for me to tell you something that you deserved to hear from him.” Chloe paused, wiping her watered eyes. “I can understand if you want to hate me, but you’ll always be my sister and for the record, he never told me.” Chloe said and walked toward the door.

“Then how did you know, if he never told you?” Lana questioned her.

“I found out about a year ago, Alicia told me and showed me. Clark only found out that I knew this year.” Chloe said, stopped in front of the door.

“But he told Pete?” Lana wanted to know. Chloe turned to her and shook her head.

“No, Pete also found out in his own way. The only person he wanted to tell was you.” Chloe said, still facing Lana.

“And he did, that mysterious day, he told me about, right?” Lana asked, a very confused look on her face.

“Yes he did.” Chloe confessed.

“I don’t understand what could have happened for him to not tell me again?” Lana asked, mostly to herself.

“I thought Clark was going to tell you everything?” Chloe said.

“Almost everything, he told me how he felt and all that lies with knowing his secret. Then when he was done, he gave me a choice. If I wanted to know, I would come to the loft tonight.” Lana explained.

“And you’re going to go, right?” Chloe wanted to know.

“I don’t know. I mean, I’ve always wanted the truth, but at what cost? It kind of scares me the way he talked about his secret last night. How I could see all the pain in his eyes and what it had done to him. I’m just confused…..” Lana said, putting her face in her hands.

“And to think, all we wanted in high school was the truth.” They shared a small laugh.

“He also told me that he loved me and that I was the only girl for him.” Lana smiled slightly.

“Did you believe him?” Chloe questioned her.

“Every word.” Lana replied.

“The question is, do you still feel the same?” Chloe said, taking a seat next to Lana in the bed.

“The last months have just been so bad.” Lana told her.

“That doesn’t answer my question. The decision to go to the loft tonight doesn’t lie in your thirst for the truth, but in your heart. If you still love him, you’ll go, if not, you won’t.” Chloe gave Lana a half hug before getting up and leaving. Lana sighed and fell back on her pillow.

*Kent House*

Clark walked downstairs feeling nervous, refreshed and scared at the same time. He had almost told Lana everything, but at the same time let her into a part of Clark Kent that no one had really known, not even his parents. The question still remained how she felt, did she believe him? I mean, he couldn’t really blame her if she didn’t, after all he had put her through. He knew, deep down his heart, that he failed her and refused to let it happen again, no matter what. “Hey honey, I came home early from my trip.” Martha said smiling.

“Hi mom.” Clark replied.

“Is everything alright?” Martha asked, noticing the look Clark had on his face.

“Well, me and Lana had a little chat.” Clark admitted as Martha motioned for Clark to sit down. They both sat down.

“Clark, I know how hard this has been for you, but you have to move on. Sometimes relationships don’t work out, you’ll have more.” Martha said trying make him feel better.

“How could you say that mom?” Clark wanted to know.

“Because I believe it’s true and you can’t focus on something that’s over.” Martha explained.

“Lana isn’t just another girl and this isn’t just another relationship. She’s the one and she’s always been the one.” Clark said, passion in his eyes.

“Clark, don’t you think if she was the one, then you would be able to tell her your secret?” Martha said.

“I’m going to tell her my secret, if she wants to know it. I gave her the choice, because I love her that much. Please don’t tell me that she isn’t the one, don’t tell me that ever again.” Clark said, for the first time ever, yelling at his mom.

“I’m sorry Clark, ever since your dad has been gone, it’s been hard. You’re dad would have known what to say.” Martha rubbing her face with her hands.

“It’s okay mom, because right now I could use some support.” Clark said, Martha smiled and they hugged.

*Lana’s dorm room.*

Lana is sitting in her room, staring out into the sun, when she heard a knock. “Come in.” She said.

“Hi.” Lex said, walking and he gave Lana a kiss on her cheek.

“Hey Lex.” Lana said, forgetting all about him. What was she going to tell Lex? He had been so good to her.

“What’s going on?” He asked with a smile.

“Lex, we need to talk.” Lana told him and he looked taken off-guard.

“About what?” He asked curiously.

“Clark came over last night after I got home from your place. He ended up opening up to me, telling me things he never told me before.” Lana explained.

“Oh…..” Lex said, turning away.

“I know what you’re thinking,, we’re together and Clark blew it. I just can’t help but think that if I knew his secret, it could be the beginning of what I always wanted.” Lana said to him.

“So just like that you’re going to give him another chance? I mean after he broke your heart and fed you lie after lie, you’re going to give him another chance, despite us being together? I’ve been here for you Lana and I’ve been honest with you, how could you betray me like this?” Lex said calling Lana out on her decision.

“I’m sorry Lex……” Lana trailed off.

“I’ve never asked anything of you Lana, but if you see Clark, I don’t want to ever see you again. Remember, he’s the one who failed you, I’m the one who has always been there for you.” Lex got up and walked out. Lana looked back at the door sadly and put her hands in her face.

*Talon, Later in the afternoon.*

Lana had been thinking all day and night, it seemed as if her decision got tougher by the day. However, she had been up all day and really could use some coffee, so she decided to drive to the Talon. She walked up the counter. “Can I have a regular coffee, with a lot of sugar?” Lana asked.

“Absolutely.” The employee said and when Lana turned around, she was surprised to see Lois.

“Hey Lois.” Lana said.

“Hey Lana, I didn’t notice it was you..” Lois said with a smile. “It looks like you’ve had a long day?” Lois acknowledged.

“You could say that. There’s a lot on my mind with no sleep to go with it.” Lana said, rubbing her eyes.

“Yeah, Chloe told me you and Clark had a late night. Want to talk about it?” Lois offered.

“It’s all real confusing.” Lana replied.

“Try me.” Lois offered. Lana thought it might be good to get a fresh opinion on things.

“Clark offered me the truth last night and today, Lex said that if I went to see Clark for the truth, he would break up with me. I don’t want to lose Lex, but I don’t want to give up on Clark either. But Clark really broke my heart and Lex was there for me.” Lana explained, almost breathless when she was done.

“That’s a tough one, I can understand you being wary of giving Smallville another chance, but I also understand you wanting to give him one. Despite my feelings toward Lex, I can understand why you wouldn’t want to lose him or let him down either.” Lois said.

“Life never seems to get easier does it?” Lana sighed, Lois smiled.

“No, it doesn’t. Listen Lana, I’ve known Smallville.” Lois paused. “I’ve known Clark for more than a year now and I’ve never met anyone like him. He’s the most generous, courageous and genuinely good person I’ve met. But the thing that surprised me the most was how I guy as good looking as him didn’t date any girls. I was in Smallville High for a couple of weeks and I can tell you that every girl there besides me, you and Chloe were drooling over him. He could have had any girl, any time he wanted. Clark even looked at another girl and never dated any of those girls, because he was so in love with you. I would even catch him in his room during nights looking at a picture of you two. I had never seen anyone so in love, that includes his parents. I don’t know why he broke up with you, but what I do know is that he looked a broken man ever since. I don’t think there is anything in that world that means more to him than you.” Lois said as Lana looked on. Lois then handed her, her coffee. “Here, I hope I helped.” Lois said with a smile.

“You did.” Lana replied, then grabbed the coffee and left as Lois looked on.

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark sat on his couch as he looked at a picture of Lana. After last night, he knew things would never be the same. Off course that was the point of telling her, things had to change, one way or another. Clark then heard some foot steps and put down his picture.

So Lana finally understands that the truth may be painful/dangerous. That's good, I guess.

You know, Lex's ultimatum should be an indicator that he is not the one - don't attempt to find the truth, or we're over. It is a pretty good indicator that he is desperate.

I like the role Lois played, too. Same one she did before on the show - even if she was only guessing as to the parties - when she had that talk with Lana.

So it's all up to Lana...

I believe she will see him, but I'm afraid that it's Lex's footsteps that Clark is hearing. :mad: :(

CHAPTER NINE

Clark got up and was surprised, yet not shocked to see his former friend standing at the top of the stairs. "I guess I shouldn't be shocked to see you here." Clark said as Lex smirked at him.

"No, you shouldn't." Lex replied.

"I'm also guessing you're here to tell me how I don't deserve a second chance. How I've already ruined something great. How I'm the one who broke up with her and don't deserve her again. I lied to her and I kept secrets from her that she should have known. That I’ve hurt her enough and she's with you now, so I should back off. Is that all Lex?" Clark asked after throwing something at Lex, that Lex wasn't prepared for.

"Yes, to all you said. However, there's more to it than that. I care about Lana very much and love her more than you ever could know. She's not like every other girl, she's something special. The way you treated her and the way you hurt her, can't just be made up, because one day you woke up and decided you should open up a little bit. You have failed her and I won’t let her do it again.” Lex said, fire in his eyes. Clark looked at him straight in the eyes and nodded his head.

“You’re right, I did fail her. I let her down and hurt her more than maybe anyone.” Clark paused, looking away in pain. “I can’t change that, all I can do, is try and make it right. Normally, I would not have done what I did last night. I would have just let her move on with her life and try to find happiness with you., despite knowing it was wrong. Then I would have struggled to move on and live with my regrets of how it could have been different. The same would go for her. I know what’s in her heart and I know how much it’s hurting. I also know, that I’m the only one who could make it right, because what we had was something special. It wasn’t a one night stand, it was true love.” Clark explained as Lex looked on with a small smirk.

“You don’t break the heart of people you love. You don’t keep secrets and lies from the people you love, not if it’s true love.” Lex snapped back.

“No, you protect the people you love, no matter what. That’s what I did, I protected her as best I could, but I even failed in that, because I didn’t see you coming.” Clark paused, sighing. “Maybe I was holding on for that last hope of friendship and it blinded me. I couldn’t see you swooping in like a vulture, slowly trying to rip her away from me. I just wish I had seen it in time.” Clark said and Lex shook his head.

“I didn’t have to try very hard. All I gave her is what she wanted, the truth and honesty.” Lex told him and Clark turned away with a smirk.

“Truth and honesty? Have you forgotten that we’ve known each other for 5 years now Lex? Have you forgotten all the lies you’ve told me? Have you forgotten the secrets hidden in the rooms of your mansion that you kept from me? Or about how that little test you gave me earlier in the year? How about when you were willing to sacrifice Lana and my parent’s life, by testing me? Did you tell her that Lex? You know, how you freed those three men, so they could come after us?” Clark paused, Lex looked away. “Or how about Victor? Or the weapon you had that killed ocean life? Come on Lex, are these hitting any buttons?” Clark shouted, anger overcoming him.

“None of that matters, because I love her. Besides, everything I’ve done, I’ve done with the best interest at heart.” Lex defended himself.

“Yeah, your interest.” Clark snapped at him.

“She means more to me than anything. When you’re in love you do anything to keep it and I plan to. You have no idea what it’s like to have me as an enemy.” Lex threatened him.

“She means more to you than anything? Huh?” Clark paused and Lex nodded. “Then tell me this, why didn’t you get her out of smallville the first chance you had when you saw the reports of a meteor shower?” Clark asked.

“Because we had to wait for my helicopter.” Lex replied.

“BULL! You purposely kept her at the mansion, so you could get the stone away from her. Don’t sit here and try to tell me anything else., she told me what happened. If it was me, she would have been gone from Smallville the first second I heard the meteor shower was coming. You wanted that stone and didn’t care what it cost you. That’s the difference between you and me. I will sacrifice anything for her, even if it meant my own happiness and my own dreams. That’s what love is, , no, that’s what true love is. She isn’t a prize to be won, she’s much more than that, she’s a piece of my heart.” Clark passionately told him, getting right up into his face.

“You can throw out any accusation you want, but the truth, she’s with me now and she trusts me. I suggest you stay away or you will have a very bad enemy.” Lex said and began to walk away before Clark grabbed him, shoving him up against a wall.

“Let me make one thing very clear. I will kill…..to protect her…….from people……like you. Don’t you ever darken my doorstep again or you will really figure out what I’m capable of. Now get the hell out of my barn.” Clark shouted, eyes filled with anger. He released Lex, glaring at him as he left.

*Lana’s dorm room three hours later*

Lana comes rushing in as Chloe sat at her desk. “Wow, for a conversation that’s been five years in the waiting, that sure didn’t take a long time.” Chloe said with a grin.

“We didn’t have the conversation.” Lana whispered, looking on with a wide-eyed expression.

“What happened?” Chloe asked, clearly taken aback by Lana’s expression.

“I walked in the barn, then I heard Clark and Lex in a huge argument over me. I heard Clark say some things about Lex and before I go back, I need to know, are they true?” Lana questioned Chloe.

“Everything from Victor to testing Clark with those three men from Summerholt. It’s true.” Chloe said, nodding her head. Lana put her hand up to her face in anger.

“How could have I been so stupid not to see these things?” Lana asked, mostly to herself.

“Clark didn’t you, remember? You can’t blame yourself for not knowing about things that no one told you about.” Chloe said, trying to convince her.

“Maybe I should have known, maybe if I wasn’t blinded by Lex’s honesty I would have seen the things he’s done. Maybe Clark was right not telling me before, I don’t deserve to know his secret.” Lana said, shaking her head in disappointment.

“Lana, listen to me, you deserve to know his secret, because you love him and you want to be there for him. We all make mistakes Lana. I betrayed Clark’s trust by going to Lionel Luthor, because I was mad at him for not telling me about you two. That’s what makes us human, we all mess up, but the important thing is how we get up. You’ve waited too long to give up on his secrets now, don’t miss a chance, because of a mistake you made. Otherwise you’ll be making another and this one will be an even bigger one.” Chloe explained.

“I’m sorry I yelled at you earlier Chloe.” Lana apologized.

“It’s okay, I think I did deserve it. I’m just glad that you and Clark have a second chance. It’s well deserved.” Chloe sincerely told her.

“Well, I better get going.” Lana said, seeing it was already nine. Lana got up and hurried out the door.

“I’d wish you luck, but you don’t really need it.” Chloe smiled.

*Clark’s loft, three hours later.*

Clark sat in his loft, once again checking his clock. It read 12 mid-night. She choose Lex and how could he blame her? He’s the one who lied to her, over and over again. He’s the one who kept hurting her and pushing her away. How could he expect one night of being honest to win her back? Maybe he took the dream out of context, maybe his mother was wrong.

The confrontation between Lex and Clark wasn't too bad. I just hope he isn't a BDA that's going to forget he now needs to protect himself - and Lana - from the bald-headed one.

Lana now knows all that is essential - the good in Clark (and the evil in Lex). I hope all goes well with the rest of the reveal...

Sure you could;) Well obviously you can't see the argument, because Clark is usually a wimp when it comes to Lex. Nor does he ever really get mad at Lex like that, even though he should. Especially after Lex is responsible for Lana's death, I never saw Clark act any differently toward Lex, which is stupid.

Very nice work so far, SVM--brilliant idea, letting Lana overhear the confrontation between Clark and Lex! Now she has had a glimpse of how slimy Lex really is, and how good Clark is--I'll bet she feels like a fool for having been so blind now...

CHAPTER TEN

"Lana?" He said, looking at her like all hope in the world had just come back to him. She gave him a small smile, before walking up the loft stairs. Lana finally made it to top and then sighed.

“I never thought I could walk up these stairs again without feeling so much pain. Remembering how they had become a source of pain, like walking into hell for me. After all those days it was like ascending up into Heaven, where I could see my one and only angel, my protector. Maybe more than that, the man I love.” Lana said with sincere emotion as Clark looked back sadly.

“I’m sorry I ever made it that way.” Clark told her.

“Maybe I’m the one who should be sorry. After what you told me last night, what Chloe told me last night and what I found out today, maybe I should be sorry I made it a mission to walk up these stairs to find the truth.” Lana confessed.

“You have a right to know the truth, you’ve always had a right.” Clark quickly replied.

“Maybe, maybe not, but I guess that’s part of the reason why I came here tonight. I came here to find out the truth.” Lana told him and he nodded.

“And what was the other reason.” Clark asked, Lana looked away for a second before turning back to him.

“Because I’m still in love with you.” Lana said as Clark tried to hold back a smile. Lana then began again. “I think I’ve always been in love with the mysterious farm boy who spied on me from his loft.” Clark’s cheek’s grew bright red. “You didn’t think I came out to the porch for the Kansas weather, did you?” Lana asked with a smirk.

“What about Lex?” Clark questioned her.

“He told me if I came to see you today, it would be over. Plus, after the little conversation you two had earlier today, I don’t think I could be near him now, or maybe ever again.” Lana told him.

“You heard that?” Clark said as Lana nodded.

“All of it, I’m so sorry for what he did to you.” Lana said, reaching out to his face.

“So am I, it’s tough to face the fact that your best friend has betrayed you and is no longer the person you once knew.” Clark said, placing his face in her hand.

“I could only imagine.” Lana said in a sad tone.

“Although, deep down in my heart I know that I failed him too. Maybe if I had told him my secret, things could have been different. He was my brother, I loved him.” Clark said, tears threatening to come down his face.

“You can’t blame yourself for what happened to him. The only person he can blame is himself. You made a choice to protect Lex, just like you made it for me.” Lana reassured him.

“But I’m not going to let that happen to you, I’m not going to fail you anymore. I want to give you the truth, that is, if you want to hear it.” Clark said, looking directly into her eyes.

“After all these years, I think I need to hear it. Whatever may happen because of it, I’m willing to deal with.” Lana told him. Clark nodded and smiled. He reached out his hand to her, she gave him her hand and he then walked her to the loft window.
“What do you see when you look out into the sky?” Clark asked. Lana looked at him curiously as Clark stared into the sky.

“I guess I see the stars and the moon, why?” Lana replied with a question of her own.

“Because ever since freshmen year, every time I look out into the sky I see where I came from. I see what no one else in the world today see’s, I see what use to be my home.” Clark explained, Lana not completely understanding.

“What are you saying Clark?” Lana asked, with great anxiousness in her voice.

“I’m saying……..” Clark paused and turned to her. “I wasn’t born on earth, I was born out there.” Clark said, pointing to the sky.

“That make you…….And that would mean……” Lana’s head was spinning, unable to finish her sentences.

“An alien and that I came down during the first meteor shower?” Clark finished her sentences as Lana nodded.

“Yeah…….” Lana barely was able to squeeze out the word. She was in complete shock. She looked at him with a wide-eyed and unable to speak expression. She stood there in complete silence.

“Please, say something Lana.” Clark urged her.

“I can’t believe all the bad things I said about aliens and the meteor shower. How could you have stood there and taken that? I mean, the man I love came that day. All the things I’ve said…..” Lana said, shaken her head in anger and sadness.

“You had ever right to say those things. I know what those aliens did to Smallville and to you. I know what the meteor shower cost you. Your parents died that day and it was my fault.” Clark admitted.

“Oh Clark……” Lana said, putting her hand over her mouth.

“It’s okay to blame me Lana, I know what happened that day was my fault.” Clark said, trying to hold back his tears.

“There was nothing you could have done, you were only a child Clark and I know you would have done anything possible to stop it, if you could have. Please don’t blame yourself, it hurts me when I see you hurting yourself like that.” Lana told him.

“It’s just I feel like, that even before I knew you, I’ve been causing you pain.” Clark paused. A single tear running down his eye. “I told Chloe the night before I broke up with you, that my greatest ability is to hurt you.” Clark said, in almost a whisper. Lana shook her head.

“No…..” Lana said, stepping closer to him as if to make her statement clearly known. “Your greatest ability is to complete me, when nothing and no one in the world ever could.” Lana said with passion, then she wiped the tear off his face.

“How could you say that with everyone that had happened?” Clark questioned her.

“Because it’s true and we are telling the truth from now on, right?” Lana said, with a small smile.

“Yea….” Clark said as he and Lana locked eyes. Clark finally broke eye contact and turned back to the window. “I came from a planet called Krypton. My biological parents sent me here, because Krypton was about to be destroyed, which would explain all the meteors. They weren’t meteors, they were the remains of my planet.” Clark explained.

“Wow, I never could have imagined that in a million years. Your biological parents must have really loved you to do that.” Lana pointed out as Clark nodded.

“I think my mom did, I actually saw the way she looked at me before I left for the planet, when I was used as a lab rat at summerholt. She was so beautiful and I could see how much she cared for me.” Clark said with love.

“What about your father?” Lana asked.

“I’ve actually met my father or at least talked to him and needless to say, I have no feelings for him.” Clark said in a cold tone.

“You met him, how?” Lana wanted to know.

“Through the caves, he can talk to me and also through my fortress of solitude.” Clark told her.

“Fortress of solitude?” Lana said, not knowing what he meant.

“It’s a place I go to, to talk to him. You’ve actually been there before and we will get to that.” Clark reassured her.

“Ok.” Lana replied.

“Anyways, he’s not the father I’ve always pictured. Now what would you like to hear about first? My abilities or the worse day of my life?” Clark gave Lana a choice.

“How about your abilities?” Lana choose.

“Okay.” Clark said and began. “Remember homecoming dance, when Whitney and his friend’s trucks were all stacked together? That was me.” Clark confessed and Lana’s mouth shoot open.

“I thought I saw you walking away that day, but I didn’t think it was possible. You’re that strong?” Lana said in shock.

“I can lift anything with no problem, that’s one my abilities, strength.” Clark paused, letting it sink in for Lana. “Remember the day you asked me if I was bullet proof?” Clark asked.

“Van was right, you are bullet proof?” Lana said and Clark nodded.

“I’m more than bullet proof, I’m pretty much invulnerable or unbreakable.” Clark said and Lana nodded with approval to go on. “I’m also super fast. I bet you always wondered how I got every where so fast and why I disappear so fast, well, that’s why.” Clark explained.

“Incredible.” Lana could only say.

“Then there’s x-ray vision.” Clark said, then Lana raised her eyebrows. “Don’t worry I never used it on you, on purpose anyways.” Clark tried to reassured her.

“It’s okay Clark, you don’t need x-ray vision to see me like that.” Clark blushed at Lana’s comments.

“My next ability is heat vision and you take a bow on that one. If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know if I ever could have learned to control it.” Clark said and Lana looked at him in curiosity.

“What do you mean?” Lana questioned him.

“I mean, my heat vision comes from thinking about sexual thoughts and when it comes to you…….well…..I can’t myself sometimes.” Clark admitted.

“Then why didn’t you want to sleep with me?” Lana asked, Clark immediately took her hands in his.

“The only reason I didn’t sleep with you was because I was afraid of hurting you. I wasn’t sure if I would hurt you and I would never take that chance, not with you. I mean, you’re the most beautiful woman in the world and I love you more than anything. If I had it my way, I would sleep with you every day for the rest of my life.” Clark said, looking deeply into her eyes.

“Then why did you sleep with me during the summer? I mean, you mentioned your secret not mattering? I’m a little confused.” Lana told him.

“During the summer, I was turned mortal by my biological father, because I didn’t go back to him. Instead, I stayed with you and it cost me my powers. Plus a lot more.” Clark said, looking away sadly.

“You gave up your powers for me?” Lana asked, trying not to cry at his actions.

“I’d gave up anything for you.” Clark replied without hesitation.

“I…….I don’t know what to say.” Lana said, sincerely meaning it.

“You don’t have to say anything.” Clark told her.

“You make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.” Lana told him.

“And you make me feel like the luckiest guy or alien in the world.” Clark said, with a slight laugh. “Anyways, there’s one more ability of mine. It’s called super hearing. I actually got it when I was blinded that one day in the jewelry store.” Clark told her.

“Amazing, I’m in love with a superhero.” Lana said, with a small laugh.

“None of this changes the way you feel about me?” Clark questioned her with hesitation.

“Off course not, just because you come from a different planet and have powers, doesn’t change who you are to me. You’re still Clark Kent, the most self-less, caring and loving person I know. A person I love deeply.” Lana said with love.

“You have no idea how good it makes me feel to hear you say that.” Clark told her.

“It’s only the way I feel, nothing could change that.” Lana paused and took a deep breath. “Now, I believe we have one more thing to talk about.” Lana said and Clark nodded.

“Yeah, we do.” Clark replied and motioned Lana to take a seat on the couch, she did as did he. “The day started just like you remember. I asked you to come to my loft with warm clothing and you did. Except, this time I told you I was going to share my secret with you, so we went to the caves. I brought you to the fortress of solitude and I told you everything, followed by a proposal.” Clark said as Lana smiled at the events.

“What did I say?” Lana needed to know.

“I actually asked you to think about it. Later that day, before the election party, you stopped by the farm and told me that accepted my proposal. It was the happiest moment of my life. Then, when we were at the election party, you left to see Lex.” Clark had a hard time finishing. “Something happened at Lex’s and you called me upset, saying that Lex some how knew you were keeping my secret. I asked you where you were and you told me, but Lex followed you. He said something and then I heard a crash. I speeded there as fast I could and there you were. Laying in the street……covered in blood.” Clark stared brokered hearted at his hands. “You were gone and it was all my fault.” Clark said as Lana looked at him in disbelief.

“So, you turned back time to save me?” Lana asked.

“Yes, I begged Jor-el to save you.” Clark told her, Lana swallowed and looked away from him. Becoming visibly upset.

“So, instead of me dying, your dad died?” Lana said.

“Yeah, because of me.” Clark said as Lana held her stomach in pain.

“I have to go.” Lana got up and ran down the stairs as fast as she could.

“Lana!” Clark raced to the stairs.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” Lana said, then ran away. Clark looked down the stairs in pain. Lana made it to her car and drove away as fast as she could.

While some might complain of the less than perfectly happy Clana here, I actually enjoyed the chapter. ;)

I guess the guilt has really gotten to Lana, as she finally knows why Clark had been holding back on her, and what his relationship with her had cost him.

I guess Lana will have to accept that Clark is going to treat his own pain and the role she played in it much the same way Lana herself did when she found out about the meteor shower.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

*One week later, Lana‘s dorm room.*

Lana opened the door as quietly as she could. Then she tiptoed into her room, going straight to her dresser, quietly packing up her things until the lights went on. “Hello stranger, nice of you to drop by.” Chloe folded her arms like an upset parent. Lana turned to her like a defeated child.

“Chloe……” She said, trailing off.

“Yeah, remember me? Your roommate and best friend?” She asked in a sarcastic tone.

“I don’t want to do this Chloe.” Lana said, turning back around to put her clothes in the bag.

“I understand you’re confused and there’s a lot to take in from what happened the past week, but you can’t run away. He poured his heart out to you and you just ran away.” Chloe said, Lana stopped for a second and turned to her.

“I don’t think you could ever understand what I’m going through.” Lana coldly replied.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Chloe replied in an anger tone. “I suffered almost as long as you did with the lies and secrets. Besides, at least he told you, I found out on my own. I don’t get it, you know the whole truth, what’s your problem?” Chloe snapped at her. Lana turned to her and shook her head.

“Sometimes in their life there are things we do that can’t just be forgiven. Some things are beyond just getting past them and moving on.” Lana said, in a simple tone.

“So Clark doesn’t deserve to be forgiven? Just because he made a stupid mistake? A mistake made to protect you?” Chloe questioned her in disbelief.

“You’re still not understanding.” Lana said, turning back to pack.

“Then make me understand!” Chloe told her emphatically.

“I failed him Chloe.” Lana said, as she looked away into the air.

“What?” Chloe asked, not quite understanding.

“Every since freshman year, I’ve failed him. I’ve never trusted or believed him when he told me the truth. I constantly trusted someone else, first Whitney, then Ian, then Seth, then Jason and Lex. I’ve said so many bad things about the meteor shower, about aliens, about his secret. I walked out on him to run away to Paris.” Lana shaking her head furiously, trying to keep the tears away. “I made him ashamed to be who he was and that’s why he wanted be human. That’s why he gave up his powers. I trusted that slime Lex and now his dad is dead, because of it. Every time I had a choice between him or someone else, I took someone else. How could I do? THIS IS THE MAN I LOVE?” Lana began to raise her voice. “THIS IS THE MAN WHO COMPLETES ME, every other guy is just another guy, Clark is my one and only. Yet every single time when it has mattered the most, I have failed him. I failed him…….” Lana trailed off, trying hard to hold back the tears. Chloe stared at her sadly, really unprepared for the circumstances presented in front of her.

“Don’t you think you’re being a little too hard on yourself. All we make choices and mistakes, the key is moving on. Clark wouldn’t blame you for any of that.” Chloe explained.

“No, I don’t think I’m being too hard on myself. Not when I hurt him so much, not when I made his life more harder than it needed to be. He didn’t deserve to be treated that way, not by someone he loves, not by someone who loves him. I should have trusted him, I should have believed in him, but I didn’t. I believe in Lex and in Jason. I couldn’t possibly believe that what he was doing was right, I couldn’t possibly believe that what he doing was really to protect me. No, I had to keep pushing and pushing for the truth. Why couldn’t I just accept his reason for keeping the secret?” Lana said, getting visibly upset with herself.

“You just wanted the truth, how could you blame yourself for that?” Chloe wanted to know.

“Because of what I did in order to get it. I was willing to sacrifice anything for the truth…..even my love. I began to want the truth so bad that it blinded me. That it drove me to do things, I never should of or would have done. Maybe if I wasn’t blinded by my search for the truth, I could see what was happening. I could have seen the hurt in his eyes every time I walked out on him after an argument or even the fact that he was lying to me when he said he didn’t love me. Everything would have been different, if it wasn’t for my actions.” Lana said, shoving her last piece of clothing in the bag.

“So, what are you going to do now? Are you going to run away? You know that isn’t the answer, it never is.” Chloe tried to convince her.

“It’s the only answer this time. I will not go back to him, I will not continue to inflict the pain I have been inflicting the past five years. It’s over, he’s so much better than I will ever be and he deserves so much better. I’m not going to be the reason anymore, I’m not going to take away what makes him so special.” Lana explained.

“Don’t do this Lana, don’t do what he does. Don’t think you’re protecting him by walking out. Haven’t you two suffered enough? You know his secret now, just put it to bed, be together.” Chloe replied.

“I can’t do that.” Lana quickly said.

“Why not?” Chloe questioned her. Lana looked back in silence before the tears started rolling down her eyes.

“Because I don’t want to her him anymore!” Lana snapped at her. “Don’t you get it Chloe, this isn’t some Clark secret where he’s protecting me from danger. This is me protecting Clark from me, from getting his heart broken again or even worse, from losing himself. I’m not going to stand by while he continues to sacrifice everything for me. Not now, not ever.” Lana said, crying heavily.

“Lana…..” Chloe said, going to hug her, but Lana pushes her away.

“No!” Lana screams as Chloe backs up. “I don’t deserve your sympathy, I don’t deserve anything from the girl who Clark should love. Not the girl who constantly betrays him. Now please, let me leave.” Lana said, wiping away your tears.

“Okay….” Chloe gave in and watched Lana walk out the door.

Except for her obsession with the truth, I tend to think of Lana as rational in what she does (or at least write her that way). But here, she's almost acting the same way Clark always does. :(

CHAPTER TWELVE

*Clark’s Loft*

Clark is sitting in his loft, staring at the broken picture frame that held Lana’s picture. He had thrown it the day he saw Lex and Lana kiss. He had thrown out of anger, anger at himself and sadness that his worst nightmare had unfolded before his very eyes. He didn’t know what to do, no one would have in that situation. Not anyone with a broken heart. “What happen to that?” Clark turned his head to find Lana standing there staring at him.

“I got a little upset one day…..” Clark said with a sheepish little shrug.

“Oh…..” Lana replied, turning away for a second.

“When I saw you and Lex kissing,……..I…..didn’t know what to do. It was the worse pain I’ve ever felt, because my worst nightmare had come true and it was all my fault.” Clark explained.

“No….It wasn’t.” Lana told him, shaking her head.

“Lana, if had only…..” Lana went up to him and puts her fingers on his lips.

“You did, remember? I was the one who screwed up. I was the one who had to go see Lex. I was the one who trusted him.” Lana reminded him.

“You trusted him, because I pushed you away.” Clark replied.

“No, you tried to protect me. Just like you always try to do and I should have known that. Instead, I was hell bent on finding out the truth. This is my fault.” Lana confessed.

“Is that why you left?” Clark wanted to know.

“Yes, I needed to be alone, so I could try and figure things out.” Lana said as Clark nodded.

“What did you figure out?” Clark asked her.

“That I’ve failed you.” Lana told him as Clark looked back in disbelief. She had failed him? Clark thought to himself. He couldn’t believe that she could ever think that. His Lana, fail him? Never, she couldn’t if she tried.

“Lana………” He began, but she stopped him with her hand.

“I know what you’re going to say. Lana, don’t blame yourself, I should have told you my secret. You didn’t have any choice, I pushed you away, you had the right to do what you did. No, I never had the right to my back on our love and not make it my first choice. You’ve always put me and our love ahead of everything, but I couldn’t do it, because the truth was too important to me.” Lana said with a mock laugh of herself.

“Please don’t do this to yourself. We’ve both made our mistakes, why can’t just move on?” Clark pleaded with her.

“Because I can’t trust myself, I can’t trust that I won’t mess up again and most importantly, I will never be able to figure myself for what I did. Clark, your dad is dead, because of me.” Lana said, tears welling up in her eyes.

“My dad is dead, because of his heart problems, which I caused the year I ran away. It isn’t fair that you’re putting this all on you.” Clark tried to convince her.

“What isn’t fair is that you’ve had to suffer all these years, because of me. What isn’t fair is how much you’ve been hurting inside, because of me. It isn’t fair to you that you had to witness your worst nightmare unfold before your eyes. And it isn’t fair that you had to sacrifice your powers for me or that you’re the one who always has to protect me.” Lana explained.

“I like protecting you…….” Clark said a small smile and Lana turned it with her own.

“I know you do and I love you for it.” Lana told him.

“I always want to protect you and look afraid you. I don’t care what happens to me, you’re all that matters. Please, let me always protect there and make the sacrifices for you, I can take it all.” Clark argued with passion.

“Clark….” Lana looked at him lovingly after hearing his words.

“No mistake can be made that can’t be fixed Lana. We’ve all been down this road before, just let me be there for you. Let me protect you again, even if is from yourself.

“I don’t want you fixing my mistakes and protecting me like that. I’m sorry Clark, not this time. This time I have to look in the mirror and face the truth.” Lana confessed as Clark looked at her sadly.

“So, what does that mean?” Clark wanted to know, but still afraid of the answer.

“It means I’m moving to New York. Nell moved there last year and she said if I ever needed a home, she should give me one.” Lana said as Clark looked at her blankly, not knowing how to respond.

“When are you leaving?” Clark asked.

“Tonight in 3 hours.” Lana replied as Clark stared at her shell-shocked.

“Three hours…” He repeated still unable to grasp the situation.

“I need you to make me a promise.” Lana said, looking deep into his eyes.

“What?” He hesitantly asked.

“Don’t come after me, go on with your life and be the person we all know you can be. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine. I will never love anyone like I loved you and I never will.” Lana explained him.

“Lana…..I….” Clark began, but she stopped him.

“Please, let me do this. Don’t be my hero, when I don’t deserve it. Let me go, for your sake and mine, because I don’t know what I would do if I failed you again. Now, please promise me you won’t come after me.” Lana repeated her request, Clark staring at her in pain.

“No, I won’t…..I can’t.” Clark said.

“You always told me you wanted me to be happy and this will make me happy. Protecting you, knowing you’ll finally be okay will make me happy. I don’t care about my needs anymore, it means nothing to me. You are what matters, not only to me, but to the world. You’re going to save the world and I’m going to save you.” Lana said, Clark becoming teary-eyed.

“Yea….” Clark muttered, then looked away, not believing what he said.
“I love you and I will never forget you.” Lana said and then kissed Clark passionately, before reluctantly pulling away.

“I love you too.” Clark said, staring into her eyes as tears began to fall down Lana’s eyes.

“Make me proud.” Lana said, then turned around and walked out. Clark stood there with a strange look on his face, no believing what just happened. Almost like he was unable to move.



And I dont care if there are spelling mistakes. Yes, i know that sounds mean, but if you're a red sox fan you understand my position.

Yeah the spelling was pretty bad in a few places, but the update and its storyline were so well written otherwise. Very tragic I would judge, given that this result is the last thing that either of them wants, and is an action that will actually hurt Clark in doing his duties.

Clark is being his usual idiot self, and is completely unable to articulate why he actually needs her there beside him. Why can't he just repeat what he was thinking earlier - it would have been much better than what he muttered live to Lana...

I know, I know, I'm being too harsh on Clark and all that. But it actually was always those situations that made me care for the show. The thwarted love between those two was what made me continue watching...maybe I just enjoyed the pain it caused me. :\

No trust me your not, that was a pretty sucky update. Just tell me now if its not going to have a happy ending. Because if it isn't I am not reading this again, we have enough problems with the EXTREMELY crappy ending of this season. I seroiusly was grounded for a week because after ending of the last episode I stood up and said"WHAT THE ****. HOW COULD THEY TAKE MY FAVORITE ****ING CHARACTER AND TURN HER IN TO A COMPLETE SHITHEAD. WHAT KIND OF ****ING ASS PROBLEMS DO THE ****ING WRITERS HAVE WITH CLARK BEING HAPPY WITHTHE WOMAN HE LOVES." CHAPTER THIRTEEN

*Three hours later*

Clark just stood there in his loft, unable to move as he had when Lana walked down the loft tears with tears in her eyes. It was like he was in trance that forced him to stay there, when all he wanted to do was run to her and hold her in his arms forever. It was like he was unable to do anything or maybe it was the same old thing,, he felt guilty for letting his happen. What if it was truly best for her to leave? He thought and then it finally hit him, no, it wasn’t. Clark raced down his loft down his loft stair as Chloe rushed in.

“Where is she?” Chloe asked.

“She’s went to the airport.” Clark told him and Chloe slapped him on the shoulder in a playful way.

“And you let her go.” Chloe questioned him in disbelief.

“Not this time, I’m going to airport right now.” Clark replied.

“Let’s go.” Chloe said before Clark slightly pulled at her arm.

“There’s no time to drive Chloe.” Clark said and Chloe nodded.

“You’re right, go get her.” Chloe pushed Clark and he smiled before super speeding away.

*Metropolis Airport*

Lana sat in her seat in the airport as she her plane arrive at gets. She just did the hardest thing she has ever had to do, walk out on the man she loves. She had to do it, she had to protect him, even if it meant losing him. She just wished, it didn’t have to come to this, not after everything they had been through.

*Flashbacks*

“I believe in my friends and their dreams.” Clark said, staring into her eyes.

“ What if their dreams come crashing down around them?” Lana asked with concern

“Nothing's crashing down around you, Lana. Not while I'm here.”

“I know what Louise did was wrong, but I can't help thinking she was lucky. Even if it was only for a few days, she knew what it felt like to really be in love.” Lana explained.

“It's too bad it couldn't last.” Clark said.

“What if that's not the point? Lana paused “Maybe you have to be grateful for the time that you spend together and stop holding onto what could've been.” Lana said.

So a day when you've lost yourself completely

“That being around you is too dangerous.“ Lana paused “But it's true.”

“Lana…” Clark began before being interrupted

“It's OK, Clark. I know. You're really looking out for me. But you're right...I think I have to stay away from you.” Lana told him with a tear running down her eye.

“Clark, there are so many things that I haven't told you. Things that I've done.” Lana confessed.

“Do you still love me?” Lana asked afraid of what might be said.

I'm sorry it had to be this way, Clark. But we don't always get to choose who we are. Sometimes, our destiny leads us to places that we don't want to go, and there's nothing we can do about it.” Lana said sadly.

“No Lana.” Clark pleaded.

“I love Clark; I always will.” Lana told him.

Lana snapped out of her trance as they called for bordering on the air plane. “Baggage claim over here ma’am.” A man called out to Lana. She picked up her bags and went to the man standing in the dorm entrance. Suddenly, another man stepped behind Lana as she stood in front of the man, then he grabbed and brought her into the room. He covered her mouth as she tried to scream and the other shut the door. They then quickly tapped her mouth. “Shut up.” He said, as they moved through an entrance to the outside of the airport and threw her into a limo.;

“Hello Lana.” Lex greeted her. Lana looked at him in shock with tape still covering her mouth. “You can take that off now.” Lex told her.

“You some of a…..” Lana went to attack Lex when the men in his car pulled her back to her seat.

“Try to stay calm Lana. We wouldn’t want any incidents.” Lex said as Lana glared at him from her seat.

“What do you want?” Lana questioned him.

“I want what you want or should I say, what you wanted?” Lex explained.

“Which is/” Lana asked knowing full well what it was.

“The truth.” He said with a grin.

“About what?” Lana continued to play dumb.

“About Clark’s secret off course. I know that’s why you went to the loft. There’s no other reason you would have, considering what had happened between you two. “ Lex said as Lana stared back trying not to give anything away.

“That’s not true, he didn’t tell me anything.” Lana protested.

“You can lie all you want, but one or another…..I will get answers.” Lex said with a cold glare of his own as Lana looked away in pain.

*Metropolis Airport.*

Clark rushed at human speed through the airport. Frantically trying to find Lana’s gate. He looked at the board and say it, gate 10. He hurried through the crowd of people, finally getting to gate 10, just in time to see the plane fly away. He stood there in horror as he watched the only girl he loved fly away and worst of all, he did nothing to stop it. He just let her go, even after everything that happened.

Oh, no!!! Lana got taken by Lex, and Clark thinks she flew away. He doesn't even know she's in trouble. Oh, man, I hope he finds her. Maybe she'll yell and he'll hear her with his super hearing...

I like how you used all those quotes from the show to recall the memories. That was a cool way to do it, bringing back all those scenes in a concise way, yet having us relive them from a few quotes. Great idea. And the song added a lot too.

CHAPTER 14

*One week later*

Clark stood in his loft like he did everyday since she left. Standing at his loft window trying to figure out how it could have been different. How he could have prevented all this from happening. Like he always did, he placed the blame on himself for allowing it to happen. Allowing her to believe she failed him, because he put her in the position to do so. Wishing he could go back to all those times she asked him to be honest with her, before Lex turned into the man he is, before Jor-el came into his life.

Clark, then turned his attention to the stars in the dark sky. He remember what Lara had told him. How it is up to him whether Lana and him would be together. That nothing, not even Jor-el could keep take away their love for each other. It was, after all, his choice. His destiny was no longer in anyone's control, except for his. His choice, has and always will be Lana, no amount of distance will ever keep him away, not as long as he can walk.
Clark then super speeded away.

*Daily Planet*

Chloe is sitting at her desk, doing some busy work as she tried to compensate of the loss of her friend. To Chloe, Lana was her sister and her best friend. Chloe couldn't have asked for a better friend, but now she's gone and Chloe blamed herself. Maybe if she had told Lana sooner about Clark, maybe she told Lana what was going on. Why did she have to hide it? Is that what friend's are suppose to do? Keep secrets as the secrets continue to hurt the people you love? Chloe's an investigative reporter and the one time she should reported something, she kept quiet. "I promise myself never again." Chloe whispered. Clark then walked in.

"Hey Chloe, I need your help." Clark asked.

"What is it?" Chloe wanted to know.

"I need Nell's address in New York." Clark told her and Chloe immediately grabbed a piece of paper on her desk.

"About time Clark, now please bring her home." Chloe said with a pleading voice.

"I will and this time for good." Clark said as he rushed out of the Daily Planet.

"I love my friends....." Chloe said with a small laugh.

*New York, Nell’s place.*

Clark takes one last look at the information Chloe gave him, before walking to the house. Telling himself over and over again that he wasn’t taking no for an answer. He would get Lana home or if worse came to worse he would stay here in New York with her. He was never letting her go again. Clark finally made it to the door and rang the bell. “Hello….Clark, is that you?” Nell asked when she opened the door.

“Yes, it’s me.” Clark replied.

“What are you doing here?” Nell wanted to know as Clark looked confused, thinking it would be obvious.

“I came to see Lana.” Clark informed her.

“Lana? Lana never came.” Nell told him as Clark’s eyes almost shoot out of his head.

“What?” He asked again, wanting to make sure he heard her right.

“Lana wasn’t on the plane to New York, she isn’t here.” Nell repeated.

“That can’t be……..” Clark said, trailing off in disbelief.

“I’m sorry Clark.” Nell said and shut he door slowly. Clark looked around, before he super speeded away.

*Lex’s mansion*

One of Lex’s men opens a door up for him as he walked into a dark room. He flicks on the light and Lana is sitting in a chair tied up. Her physical features distorted by bruises and cuts. Dry tears also running down her cheeks. Lex walked up to Lana and lifted her chin. “Who would have thought that you could be so strong?” Lex asked.

“Go to hell.” Lana spat out at him.

“I’m too busy to take any trips Lana. I’m waiting for you to finally crack and give me what I want.” Lex told her.

“Never going to happen, you can do whatever you want to me. I’ll never tell, that’s how much I love him, but I wouldn’t expect you to know anything about love.” Lana said, hate filled in her voice toward him.

“You shouldn’t, because that word means nothing to me.” Lex pauses to look at Lana. “So nothing I can do to make you talk?” Lex asked.

“Nothing.” Lana snapped back.

“Well, then maybe it is time I tried something different.” Lex said with a smug look on his face as Lana looked away.

*Chloe’s dorm room, that night.*

“What do you mean she isn’t there!?!” Chloe screamed.

“Just what I said, she isn’t there. I checked all over New York and I can’t find her.” Clark said, throwing his hands up.

“What are we going to do?” Chloe wanted to know.

“I don’t know. Her phone isn’t working and I have no clue where to look.

“I’m going to start by checking the last calls she made and her credit card bill.” Chloe told him.

“Okay, I’m going to keep looking.” Clark said.

“Good luck.” Chloe said, then they embraced.

“Don’t worry, I will find her.” Clark said looking into Chloe’s eyes. Chloe nodded and then Clark left.

*The next day*

Chloe pulled up to the farm and rushed out of her car to the loft. She saw Clark standing on the top, looking out the window. "Clark! I know where Lana is." Chloe shouted and when Clark turned around, she showed him a video tape.

I'm glad you're writing the story you wished; it's turning out to be very interesting! ;)

I guess there isn't that much of a stretch in what Lex did in the show to learn Clark's secrets from what he is doing to poor Lana in your story. He's pretty evil in either case. :mad:

CHPATER 15

“Where did you get that?” Clark immediately asked her as Chloe breathed heavily, trying to catch her breath.

“I found it on my door step this morning with a note on it.” Chloe informed him, handing him the note. Clark opened it up and read it.

“Looking for Lana? Well, here she is.” Clark said reading the note aloud.

“Let’s see this thing.” Chloe said with urgency.

“Let’s go.” Clark said without hesitation as they hurried into the house. Clark put the tape in the VCR and put the TV on, then pressed play. Lex is shown on the screen.

“Hello Chloe and I’m very sure, hello Clark.” Clark’s eyes widened when he sees Lex. “I bet you’re wondering why we’re in this situation.” Lex said, then paused. “We’re here, because I want to know the truth about you and this time, one way or another, I’m going to get it. I will stop at nothing to get it, as you can see.” The camera goes from Lex to Lana tied up a chair, very badly hurt.

“Oh God, Lana…..” Chloe said, tears welling up in her eyes. Clark slowly reaches out to the screen, putting his hand where Lana’s cheek is. The camera became wide to show Lana and Lex, Clark kept his hand on the screen a couple seconds longer before removing it.

“Tough girl you have here Clark, no wonder why I wanted her.” Lex smirked at Lana, touching her hair as the rage built inside of Clark. “She would sacrifice her own life, just to protect your secret.” Lex told him. “Now on to business, you know what I want, I know what you want, come and get it.” Lex said and then the TV went blank. Clark stared enraged at the TV, as heat vision threatened to light the TV up at any second.

“What are we going to do?” Chloe wanted to know. Clark slowly turned to her with coldness filling his eyes.

“I’m going to save her, then I’m going to break every bone in Lex’s body.” Clark replied, then began to walk to the door before Chloe ran in front of him.

“Wait a second.” Chloe said, putting both her hands on Clark’s chest, stopping him.

“Wait? You want me to wait while that bastard continues to hurt her? I’m not going to wait another second, with my abilities and the anger I have right now, the whole world couldn’t stop me from saving her. Now get out of my way Chloe.” Clark said with supreme confidence.

“Clark, just listen to me for two seconds. Lex knows us both very well, we’re not dealing with your run of the mill meteor freak who wants Lana for himself. He wants you Clark and he knows you’ll do anything to save Lana. Trust me when I say, he’s ready for you.” Chloe explained.

“He doesn’t know anything, Lana didn’t tell him anything.” Clark snapped back.

“I know she didn’t Clark, but Lex suspects certain things and he’s going to put everything he thinks he knows to use now. Don’t be stupid and run in there with no plan. Let me help you.” Chloe tried to convince him as he looked away.

“Chloe…….” Clark said, trying to shrug her off.

“No Clark, I’m not going to watch both of my friends get hurt. Let me help you, I promise, at the very least she will get out of there.” Chloe told him.

“Alright….” Clark sighed. “What do you have in mind?” He asked.

“Outside of Lex’s mansion.*

Clark and Chloe with her laptop sat outside of the gates of the mansion. “Okay, I’m about to take out their cameras. Use your vision to see if you can find Lana.” Chloe ordered as she worked furiously on her laptop.

“I can‘t see her, but there‘s medal blocking one room.” Clark explained.

“Then she must be in that one.” Chloe replied.

“You done with the cameras?” Clark asked.

“Yeah, now remember the plan. Lex wants you, not Lana, so you distract them while I get Lana.” Chloe told him once again.

“Lets do it.” Clark said, picking up and Chloe, then super speeding away.

*Lex’s mansion*

Lex looked down at Lana with a smug look on his face. “Today it ends, one way or another.” Lex told her with a cold stare.

“Clark won’t let it happen.” Lana replied confidently.

“That’s what he thinks. See, you may told me nothing, but it doesn’t mean I know nothing. I know he has powers, but more importantly.” Lex paused and leaned down to Lana’s ear. “ I know he has a weakness.” He whispered in her ear.

“You don’t know anything.” Lana said, hoping she was right.

“See, I’ve prepared a gun for myself not with regular bullets, but those made of green meteor rocks. So, we’ll see what I know, won’t we?” Lex smirked.

“You some of a *****!” Lana screamed.

“I’ll send Clark your love.” Lex said, then walked away.

“NO! NO!” Lana shouted, trying to get free.

“Watch the door.” Lex told one his men before leaving. Lex walked back into his main room, to find Clark awaiting him.

“Nice of you to show up.” Clark said sarcastically.

“Well, if it isn’t my guest of honor Clark Kent.” Lex smirked at him.

“Where is she?” Clark questioned him.

“She’s here and she’s missing you. All you have to do, is tell me the truth and she’s all yours.” Lex informed him.

“Ok, the truth is I’m as normal as everyone else.” Clark replied as Lex let out a laugh.

“Are you? Okay, we’ll find out then.” Lex paused. “Men, shoot him!" Lex ordered as five of his men walked in with guns and fired at Clark. Clark stood there and watched as the bullets fell to the ground. Lex looked on knowingly, but still a little taken back by seeing it in person.

“Maybe you were right about me Lex.” Clark responded and then took all of the men’s guns, breaking them all in half.

“Get him.” Lex commanded as all the men came after Clark and Clark handled all of them with a throw against the wall.

“Is that all?” Clark asked with confidence and then Lex smirked.

“Absolutely not.” Lex replied as a huge man with a green meteor rock ring came in. Clark approached them, then felt the effects of the meteor rock.

“Ahhh…..” Clark groan, then the man nailed him in the face and it sent Clark to the ground.

*Other part of mansion.*

A guard is standing in front of Lana’s room as Chloe peeks at him from around the corner. She then whistles, drawing the guy’s attention. She whistles again and this time the guy comes walking over to see what’s going on. When he turns the corner, Chloe shocks him with her stun gun. “That was easy.” Chloe said, grabbing his keys. She then walks to the door and unlocks quickly, before hurrying into the room. “Lana?” Chloe shouted.

“Chloe!” Lana shouted back. Chloe rushed to her, trying to untie her as quickly as possible. She finally unties her and they hug.

“I’m so glad we found you.” Chloe said.

“Me too, where’s Clark?” Lana wanted to know.

“He went to go confront Lex.” Chloe told her.

“We have to get to him quickly.” Lana said, Chloe nodded as she helped Lana up and they hurried out.

*Back to Lex’s office part of the mansion.*

The big man continues to beat on Clark as Lex walks over to them. “How does it feel Clark? With all your powers, you’re made harmless by a pathetic rock. Makes me want to laugh.” Lex said as his man continues to beat on Clark. Lex continues to taunt Clark, but doesn’t hear Lana and Chloe sneak in.

“Hey Lex.” A voice said from behind, Lex turns and gets a fist in his face from Lana, sending him to the floor. The man beating on Clark turns to the girls.

“Hey you two.” The man charges at the girls, Chloe brings out her stun gun, but he knocks it away and sends both girls to the floor.

“This could prove more difficult.” Chloe mumbles, the man then grabs both Chloe and Lana. He throws both of them into Lex’s desk, both of them grab their head after impact. The man then goes up to both of them and picks them up by the throat. Both of them are struggling with to breath, when they give each other a look and kick hard at the man’s groin, sending him to the ground in pain. Lana, then runs to Clark as Chloe crushes the meteor rock ring on the man’s finger.

“Clark, are you okay.” Lana asked, stroking the hair out of his eye.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Clark replied, regaining his strength. Lana as well as Chloe helped him to his feet.

“Lets get out of here.” Chloe said to them.

“This isn’t over yet!” Lex shouted and pulled out his gun. Clark pushes Chloe and Lana out of the way.

“Then shoot me.” Clark told him, thinking it wouldn’t matter. Lana knowing it would, quickly got up and rushed in front of Clark.

“Okay.” Lex shot at him.

“No!” Lana jumped in front of Clark and took the bullet.

“Lana!” Clark shouted as she hit the floor, then super speeded to Lex. Knocking the gun out of his hands and grabbing him by the throat. Chloe goes to check on Lana.

“Clark, she’s hurt badly.” Chloe said, holding Lana in her hands.

“You’re a dead man.” Clark said as he squeezed on Lex’s throat.

“You kill me, you kill her.” Lex managed to say. Clark then looked toward a bleeding Lana.

“You can bet, I’ll be back for you.” Clark told Lex with a cold stare before throwing up against the wall.

“Give me her.” Clark told Chloe, he took Lana in his arms as well as Chloe and super speeded away.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

*Smallville Medical Center, waiting room.*

A wave of silence had overtaken the waiting the room as Clark and Chloe sat in their respective chairs, waiting for the doctors to complete surgery on Lana. Chloe turned to Clark with red puffy eyes, as usual, he had a stoic look on his face. The look that told you his heart was breaking apart inside of him and the pain was so great he couldn’t force an emotion out of him. These were the times where you would know that there’s nothing in the world you could say to make him feel better. But you knew you wouldn’t be a friend if you didn’t try. “You know they say the teenage years are suppose to be the best times of our life. Obviously whoever said that never met us, otherwise they would have used the word weirdest, instead of best.” Chloe had a small laugh as Clark nodded sadly.

“They didn’t count on an alien.” Clark muttered.

“I guess not…..” Silence fell over them again. “We’ve already been through so much Clark, this time is no different. She’ll be okay.” Chloe said, taking his hand.

“I can only hope so.” Clark said, turning to her.

*Flashback*

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through

“It's just getting to the good part.” Lana tells him as Clark steps to her side. “What do you think?” She asked, turning to him.

“I think it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.” Clark replied, staring directly at Lana.

“Clark, I need you to know... that whatever happens, I will never forget you.” Lana said, holding back her tears.

“Lana, you're talking like we never gonna see each other again.” Clark said, fear overcoming him.

"I thought I knew what my life was going to be like now, but you never know what's going to happen tomorrow, do you?" Clark asked as Lana wiped the blood of his lip.

“Look in my eyes and tell me you’re not in love with me.” Lana ordered him.

“I don’t love you.” Clark said looking into her eyes.

“Clark, what is it? When we kiss, when we really kiss, I can feel how much you want me, why can’t we just be together?” Lana asked, emotion overcoming her.

“It’s complicated.” Clark replied.

“It shouldn’t be. Not when you love somebody.” Lana told him.

“You know what I regret the most about our relationship?” Clark asked and began again. “I regret not telling you every single day that you were the only girl for me. That no matter what happened, you would be the only girl I will ever love. That there’s no other girl who I can love, because my heart belongs to you. I never just thought of you as my girlfriend. I thought of as my future wife, the girl I want to grow old with and die with.” Clark said, looking directly into her eyes as Lana tried to stay strong. She kept telling herself that he broke her heart, over and over again.

“You don’t keep secrets from the people you love. As for us, it’s over forever, just like I told you.” Lana snapped back.

“He also told me that he loved me and that I was the only girl for him.” Lana smiled slightly.

“Did you believe him?” Chloe questioned her.

“Every word.” Lana replied.

“The question is, do you still feel the same?” Chloe said, taking a seat next to Lana in the bed.

“The last months have just been so bad.” Lana told her.

Finally find
You and I collide

“Maybe, maybe not, but I guess that’s part of the reason why I came here tonight. I came here to find out the truth.” Lana told him and he nodded.

“And what was the other reason.” Clark asked, Lana looked away for a second before turning back to him.

“Because I’m still in love with you.” Lana said as Clark tried to hold back a smile. Lana then began again. “I think I’ve always been in love with the mysterious farm boy who spied on me from his loft.” Clark’s cheek’s grew bright red. “You didn’t think I came out to the porch for the Kansas weather, did you?” Lana asked with a smirk.

You finally find

“You gave up your powers for me?” Lana asked, trying not to cry at his actions.

“I’d gave up anything for you.” Clark replied without hesitation.

*End of Flashback*

Clark and Chloe are holding hands when the doctor walks in. “Mr. Kent?” The doctor called.

“That’s me.” Clark said, walking up to him.

“Are you the husband?” The doctor asked.

“Well, I was kind of hoping to be.” Clark told him and showed him the ring box in his pocket. The man smiled at first, then a look of gloom came over his face.

“I have some news on Ms. Lang.” The doctor informed him.

“What is it?” Clark needed to know.

“We couldn’t stop the bleeding, but we were able to stabilize it. So at least you’ll be able to say goodbye, I don’t how long she’ll last, so you better make it quick.” The doctor informed him. Chloe and Clark rushed into her room.

“Why don’t you go first Chloe?” Clark suggested.

“Okay.” Chloe said deeply sadden at what’s happening. Chloe walks in Lana’s room.

“Chloe….” Lana said, trailing off when she saw Chloe’s tears.

“How are you doing?” Chloe asked.

“I don’t feel any pain.” Lana responded.

“Good, I just wanted to come in and tell you that I love you. I always considered you my sister and my very best friend.” Chloe said, tears running down her cheeks.

“I love you too Chloe and you’ve always been apart of my small family. I’m just sorry that Clark had to come between us our first few years of knowing each other.” Lana said, tears welling up in her eyes.

“To be honest, that was mostly my fault. I was jealous and held the fact the he loved you, against you.” Chloe confessed.

“It’s okay, Clark is one of a kind, I can’t imagine anyone not loving him.” Lana replied.

“Me neither…..” Chloe paused, starting to cry more heavily. “I’m going to miss you so much Lana..” She hugged Lana and Lana hugged her back.

“You’re going to do so great in the world Chloe and I’ll be pulling for you.” Lana told her and then they broke the hug. Chloe began to walk out when Lana called to her. “Chloe.” Lana said.

“Yeah.” Chloe asked, turning around with her eyes filled with tears.

“Please take care of him, please be there for him and love him.” Lana pleaded.

“I will, I promise.” Chloe promised her. Lana smiled and Chloe opened the door for Clark.

“Go.” Chloe whispered to Clark and he entered the room.

“Hey.” Lana said.

“Hey.” Clark replied, going up to her bed and kneeling next to it. He stared at her eyes, trying to contemplate what he should say.

“There’s so much to say.” Lana said and Clark nodded.

“Why did you jump in front of me? You know I could have taken the bullet.” Clark questioned her.

“Because Lex made special bullets from meteor rocks. He told me that, before he left to meet you.” Lana explained.

“So you saved my life?” Clark asked in shock.

“I figured I owed you one.” Lana said with a smile.

“Lana…..I….” Clark mumbled not sure what to say.

“There’s nothing to say about that Clark, I love you and I would sacrifice my life for you.” Lana confessed as Clark looked on with love.

“There’s no words that can express how much I love you and I don’t know how I can live without you.” Clark breaks down, crying heavily.

“Clark, I’ll never be gone, I’ll always be in your heart. My love for you could never die.” She takes his head into her hands. She wipes away his tears and looks directly in his face. “I want you to promise me that you’ll move on and find the great girl you deserve.” Lana said, tears coming down her eyes.

“I don’t want to find another girl, I want you, no other girl could mean anything to me.” Clark told her as she looked away sadly.

“Clark……” Lana said, turning back to her with tears rolling down her cheeks.

“I want to give you something.” Clark informed her, taking out a box.

“Oh my God…..” Lana covered her mouth

“It’s an engagement ring and I still want you to have it.” Clark told her, holding it out to her.

“Off course I’ll have it.” Lana motioned her hand out for him to put it on and he did.

“Now, no matter what happens you’ll be apart of me.” Clark told her.

“I love you Clark.” Lana kissed him passionately.

“I love you too Lana.” Clark said after the kiss, Lana smiled warmly at him and then a large beeping noise erupted. Clark looked to the machine and saw Lana’s vital signs had flat lined. The doctors rushed in.

“Move, Mr. Kent.” The doctor ordered Clark and stepped back, Chloe also came in. The doctors kept shocking her, but to no avail, she was gone.

“No, please God.” Clark shouted as he fell to his knees in tears as did Chloe, who tried to hold Clark’s head. Lana was gone.

But I truely found this a great story from the beginning, I know that you were disheartened in Smallville around episode 16 like the rest of us, which probably made you play it out this way.

But I still think it was an awesome story, and at least Lana died saving the man she loved :)

It was sobering, SVM, but realistic - everything doesn't always have a happy ending in this life. Awesome that Lana was willing to sacrifice all for the man she loves. But, PLEASE, can we have an epilogue, where Clark squeezes the life out of Lex? Of course, if you chose to have a miracle happen even yet, I wouldn't complain. ;) But I'd rather this happen on Smallville than what they gave us, and I think that's what you were trying to say.
