View Full Version : What Are They Doing To Clark?

What do TPTB hope to achieve with making Clark look as inept as they possibly can. Not only do they end it with him in the PZ, but in between what the heck? They manage to not only make Lex look like some perfect man even after being manipulated and used for Zod's evil machinations, also his perfect loving attitude towards Lana, and manage to make Clark look like a lying, withdrawn loser. Between the things Lex said to him prior to Zod inhabiting him, and then the junk Lana's worthless leech of a self person that she is, and what she said to him. Clark of course is never suppose to speak up for himself because it's as if they want him to be the most pathetic looking person coming and going. Forget the fact that if it wasn't for Clark on numerous occasions neither Lex, nor Lana would be alive. I am sick of seeing Clark torn down and insulted by those very people who owe their lives to him. Fine, if this is the final tearing away of Lex and Clark so be it, but Lana's worthless self had no right to tear into him as she did, she is a leech that is dependent on other characters to carry her through this storyline, and they had no right giving such a place to be so cold and ignorant to a guy she owes her life to, pitiful that TPTB go so far. I want to see Clark acting a little more like Superman by now like I thought we were suppose to get. It's time to unleash some of the Superman quality's already, please, for the shows sake. I hope they fire the writer's of the past two months worth of episodes, and give us what they promised. Other then that, Chloe Clark kiss was interesting let's see where they go with it. Glad to see Lionel still around I think he'll play a big part in the beginning of season 6. Clark getting trapped in the PZ, please that wasn't necessary. I really hope we get a better Superman next season, or I can't see where they'll go with Smallville if they don't change Clark next season, he needs to be more Superman like by now. Unfortunately they didn't deliver on, "The Boy Becoming A Man", just more of the same. Take care.
Peace To All.

u said it DWBS...etc
the only good thing that comes outta the whole spinless-clark routine is the fact that "Clark" would never take credit for doing what is right and just.
So when lex and lana rip into him, i kinda like that the writers dont make him use the fact that he's saved them as leverage to keep them off of his back about the secrets he hides. instead he just lies to protect. You see, even when he is doing wrong (lying) he is in fact doing good. His lies keep lex from using him for evil (creating super soldiers w/ his blood samples, mind controlling him to be a ruthless killer by lex's command etc.) and the lies also keep lana from going mad. (she would want to kill clark if he and his race were somehow responsible for her parents' death, however, she'd go even more insane to find out she cant kill clark anyhow) we already saw that shes still obsessed with her parents death this season.
so dont worry bud, im sure TPTB are thinking about the spinless-clark angle that we all know from the comics version of metropolis clark. (u know, that big - "dorky in a way" kinda clark we all know and tolerate) :D

That's what I was thinking: Clark might be lying consistently, but it's for the greater good. The only people who know his secret are loyal, honest, and would never betray him. Lex and Lana have proven that they WOULD betray him at the right moment. I'm glad Lana still doesn't know about Clark. Clark showed great restraint when Lex was egging him on, cutting into him. Can't say I'd do the same thing, but then, that's what makes Clark the hero...
It does irk me, though, that the writers are trying to make Lex into this superhero persona, but I suppose the true face of evil looks glamorous for awhile, before all hell breaks loose.

Clark doesn't have a choice. When everything about you is a lie to the other person, there's not much you can say.

this totally sums up what i think. yes clark may lie a lot but at least he's doing it for noble and unselfish reasons. the people who he trusts enough to tell realize this an respect him for it. lana and lex don't, so too bad for them. lex is being superherofied and that is sooo wrong!

Clark has never trusted anyone enough to tell. The people who know about him realize that his lies are meant to protect people, the people who don't know about Clark don't realize that.

You may not like it and it may not be pretty, but listen to me. I am a writer and I know a good story when I see one. This isn't the end, remember that. They need to establish Clark in the worst possible state and let everything go wrong completely, so he can rise up to be the man and the hero he is destined to be. Think about this. So many bad things have happened to him when he dfies Jor-El becuase he does what he thinks is right. Sometimes it takes the worst possible situation to make us see the truth. Sometimes we need to hurt bad enough that we can realize what we've done wrong. I think now Clark will finally get a wake up call. He will decide to listen to Jor-El and things will lean more toward being the man of steel. His character is developing nicely, even thought things look grim right now. I think this is the turning point in his life and now he will truly start down the path to becoming Superman.

I just think the writers are going have clark smarter next season because he can't looked more inept then he does right now..floatin' in the PZ.
At least that's what i hope the writers do.

This is funny, since I was under the assumption that he was going to become a man this season. Isn't that what all the promos were about over the summer leading up to the premier? I don't mind Clark messing up from time to time, but his character was a complete waste in this episode. If he cannot kill, then he has no business taking any action in this episode. At least with Commencement, Clark was running around and saving kids from the meteor, he finally got the stones and built the fortress. This episode caused him to take 5 steps back. There is no development to Clark's character at all, and for once, we can say that Lana had nothing to do with Clark's decisions in this episode. I am tired of hearing that he is too hung up on Lana to become Superman. Bottom line, JorEl gave him advice, Clark ignored it and put the planet in danger. Clark was the furthest thing from a superhero in this episode. At least he saved Chloe from a car landing on her, I guess we can all get excited about that.
i love u tom

hmmm... i also think that they made lex look too much like a hero. but i think that lana and lec were totally out of line! how can they do that to clarkie??! he's going through a really tough time...
lol wow that sounded gay. now that i look at it, clarks kind of retarded to just stand there and let people do that to him. ok, i know he cant give anthing away, especially to lex, but why would u let urself get beat up like that? i think he needs to start with some better ways to get back at people than walking away.
i totally did NOT like how clark ended up in the phantom zone.
and if u ask me, the whole cities-gone-wild thing looked more like war of the worlds/bruce almighty (hehe). o wait... in superman II it was like that when zod came... RIGHT! but the graphics are MUCH better now lol. i still think they went a little over the edge with the riots. i mean, lionel and chloe getting pulled out of the car and getting beat and probably raped on the ground? i would say OVER-EXAGGERATING!! but anyway, the whole episode was just plain scray and MESSED UP , in the mental way, not physical lol

Well as far as clark killing lex, part of supermans persona is that he is above killing. superman lives by the rules and follows the rules where as supermans alter hero batman pushes the rules to the very limit and sometimes goes over the edge. not superman he never goes over the edge but we also know that clark never saves the day but superman does. Maybe while clark spends the summer in the phantom zone he will learn what needs to fight ZOD. and when he comes back he will come back as some one that kicks ass but knows he has to have the wimpy/clark persona to avoid suspicions that he is the man of steel.
