Chlark Kiss: happy or disappointed?

Has the season finale satisfied Smallville's yearly quota of the traditional Chlark kiss. Yay or Nay to the status of Chlark now.;)

While it would be really cool for there to be a mutual Chlark kiss, it does seem like it is coming out of left field. The thing I hate about romance on Smallville, is that the way it is developed. The way that I like romance to be handled on a show is with sexual tension and for the relationship to be handled over time. All the best TV ships from Lois and Clark on ABC's LnC, to Mulder and Scully on X-Files have been developed in way that lets us see the romance build up effectively.

On Smallville you get it thrown in at the last minute in the season. They did it last season with Clark and Lana in Commencement, and now they are doing it again with Chloe and Clark in this season's finale apparently. Even though I love Chlark (my favorite ship) I thought that the possibility of it was long gone. Instead of throwing it in at the end of the season, I would have rather had it develop slowly over the season, and then come to a head in the finale. All season long it has been about the Clana, so a mutual Chlark kiss seems kind of random to me. It would have been better with development.

It would have been so much better if they had spent the seaosn dropping hints and building up to the kiss. They really dragged out the Clana this season, and did not even give the possibility of romance between Chloe and Clark time to develop. I admit that part of me will be extremely happy to see it if it happens. But I am still bugged that they are just throwing it into the finale last minute.

They can't seem to make up their minds in the romance department either.

Clark still isn't over Lana, they drop hints about Clark and Lois with his comment about her knowing him better than anyone at times, and now their is supposedly a mutual Chlark kiss.

Nay, for now, because I think it weakens Chlois - which I very much want. I especially think Clois is likely next season due to the movie, and so we probably won't even get to see much Chlark (though I think Chlark makes Clois look even worse). Also, if there is a real relationship is almost spells doom for Chloe, and if she dies and her death is a motivation for Clark and/or Lois, it makes that person look bad too.

I like the yearly kiss (it means tptb know they have Chlark contingent); it's the fact that it's seemingly "real" that makes me nervous - as none of the others were.

I know I'm being pessimistic, but frankly that's because I don't have a lot, lot of faith in TPTB for this show. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I was a huge X-Files fan vyperman. I loved the the friendship that grew into mutual admiration and love for Mulder and Scully. They accepted each others faults and saw past them to make the relationship into something more then just friends and it worked BECAUSE it took years/ seasons. It just took me 3 seasons of X-Files to have me screaming at my TV would you just cross the friendship line already. It took even less for me to feel this way about Clark & Chloe. So in alot of ways LnC and Mulder & Scully have influenced me to be a Chlark shipper. I like the friends before lovers story especially when the audience has to wait years for it's development. The build up is worth the pay off. Knowing Clark marries Lois certainly can make the story very complicated but interesting IMHO.

I agree. The circumstances of how they come to kiss is more important then the kiss itself. It certainly can be argued that the writers haven't built the Chlark kiss up this season, but tptb have certainly dropped anvils for the past 5 seasons, always dangling the carrot.

And I think it subtitly has been working up to it....I think all season Clark has seen her in a different light... not necessarily romantic... but I think he has a new found love for her that has been growing. That could turn romantic depending on our beloved writers

I feel you. In the grand scheme of S5, a Chlark kiss doesn't really fit like it should. But they have been dropping hints all season that Clark should feel *something* for Chloe, whatever it may be (appreciation in Arrival, Mortal and Hidden, admiration in Mortal and Solitude, to name a few, gratefulness in countless episodes, etc.). This season has really been about not only Clark knowing he can trust Chloe, but also that she can save him for a change. Their relationship is one of complete openness and honesty, and I'd rather have that than a whole season full of sexual tension and emotional build-up. In some ways, that's all we got the first half of S4, and look what came of that...Clana.

It would be nice to know that they'd give Chlark the necessary build-up that it deserves, but realistically, I think that's what S6 will be for. So, time will tell, but for now, I'm in the corner for the kiss. It's long overdue.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with that answer. This is so out of left field its almost maddening. In episodes this season you've seen Chloes intrest in Clark but its subtle, if you blink you'd miss it. I just wished they would show Clarks POV here and then build on that which would in turn make a relationship. If the relationship does happen it needs to be started by Clark, him coming to the realization that " Im a BDA for not seeing whats right in front of me" I know Clois is his futrue, but Clark needs a healthy relationship before that ships set in motion.

If this were real life, I'd be all for the kiss--it's about time that Clark had his Chloe epiphany!

But this is TV, so I'm wary of it because although the Chlark friendship has been building all season, its transition to a romance--IF this is what the kiss represents--is rather abrupt. There's no way of knowing whether this signifies an intention to give Chlark more time before the end of the series, or to just hurry up and get it out of the way. Because it is not yet known whether the series has one or two seasons left, I don't think that this looks good for Chlark. :(

I'm happy about it, and honestly, I don't think its out of left field. I suspect the kiss will be driven by their chaotic circumstances, and I'm not sure it will lead to more. But if they choose to go that way, than this is an OK opening move, IMO. I have been pleased with Clark's reaction to the end of Clana, and I have felt him moving away from that, so I'm not really feeling a big rebound here either.

Of course, all this could change when I see it. But honestly, if its nothing more then a good-bye kiss in a desperate time, thats OK too. I know if I thought there was a possibility that I may be seeing someone I had strong feelings for, someone I loved, for the last time.....I'd plant a kiss on them too. :)

Nay, I'm not into the Chlark kiss here are my reasons:

1. in terms of the future of Clois, Lois n Chloe are close so them hooking up now that Lois is in the pic doesn't make sense since Lois knows how much Chloe used to like Clark
2. It's basically out of the blue, Chloe has been pushing Lana, why would she all of a sudden kiss Clark, n why does it have to be a ripoff of Commencement with the Clana kiss
3. Clark still loves Lana
4. They're better as friends, I have enjoyed this season so much as a result of the dynamic btw. Clark and Chloe, it's bad enough Lana is always regressing why does Chloe have to now, if they start up a romance in what will be more than likely the last season of Smallville it doesn't really make sense (from Chloe to Lois??? improbable), as friends you don't have to worry about the angst or drama, it's light and fun and innocent, with romance the romance there will be more drama more than likely involving Lana and Lois, cuz Lana n Chloe are best friends supposedly, and according to the Lois interview in Smallville mag n the dropping of future Clois, Lois n Clark are starting to like each other, it just doesn't make sense, Smallville is not a soap opera, so why is it being treated as such -> they need to bring in some1 new if they r gonna do a romance or bring in a dude Clark hangs out with too many gurls

Apparently the Space Channel in Canada ran a trailer for Vessel and in it there is evidence of the obligatory seasonal Chlark kiss during the scene where the car crashes into the DP. Just getting a move on the thread before we actually see how the scene plays out (if it isn't cut) and draw our opinions of what it may mean for the future of Chlark.

It depends on how they build up to the kiss in the episode, which I also haven't heard about but I guess someone knows it's about to happen.

As for building up to the kiss in the season, I have to admit that they haven't really been doing that. We see looks from Chloe, but Clark never notices it. And we dont see looks from Clark at all towards Chloe. So we can't even imagine that they are thinking anything.

And the first time Chloe looks sad about Clana is when he tells her he just proposed to Lana. After that, we get looks of pain and angst that Clark doesn't seem to grasp what he's doing to Lana or Chloe, but not necessarily do those looks mean "Chloe still loves Clark".

However, I'm sure she does...and perhaps in the heat of the moment of realizing how easily both of them could die (since Clark himself is in a big fight in that episode) maybe they make the connection.

I'll reserve my final thought on this kiss after seeing it, though.

I agree. They never develop romances very realistically on this show and this Chlark kiss has come totally out of left field, just like the Lexana kiss did and Clana dancing in Spirit. Frankly I think all of these badly developed romances makes all of the characters look shallow and one-dimensional in their emotions towards one another.

That's why I'm thinking that tptb will never introduce a Clois romance IN SV. I think they'll save it for the big screen this summer and keep dropping the anvils for Clois. I love the Lo & Chloe scenes now. I think it is more likely that they would actually explore some of the Chlark anvils especially after any Vessel Chlark kiss. We will just have to wait and see how the scene in the DP pans out.

I'm torn. I have been all for Chloe and Clark getting together. On the other hand, I'd begun to get used to the idea that Chloe was really trying to move on. (Last week she had plans LOL) As stated earlier it really is going to depend on the context and what happens to the respective storylines afterward. Who knows what they may be thinking of doing since the movie is coming out and it has NOTHING to do with the show. TPTB may decide to take a few more liberties with the mythos...

i would love any chlark kiss... but if the writers try and "resolve" it or make it go away after the first episode, which is what happens with a lot of things in the next season's premiere, i will be wholly annoyed. as long as this isn't a repeat of season one/two i will be okay. also, i feel like this kiss does make sense. clark and chloe are together all the time, he can be his true self with her, and even though he might be on the rebound after lana, i do think that clark is now smart enough to know what he is doing. who cares if this kiss was about the world possibly ending and may not have happened in other circumstances!... chlark has never been fully explored... more like turned on and off!!!!

I really want Chlark to happen, or more importantly for Chloe to be happy, but not like this. A goodbye kiss while a world is possibly ending is understandable. The kiss should never be mentioned again, but I'm sure the writers will drag out tension for a while, like they do with every relationship. We'll see (sigh...)

My vote is it's long overdue. I would like to see more of this. As for being out of left field, I don't think it is. It has been a short time after Clark reeling after discovering Lex and Lana together, but Clark and Lois together right now is not even in the cards. Clark has never denied he might be more than just friends with Chloe. Personally, I know you can carry a torch for somebody for a long time, but mourning period's over. Chlark is fair game.

For me, it totally made sense that Chloe kissed Clark. She's always really loved him and even knowing his secret, she's accepted him. However, what confuses me is that Clark actually kisses her back, but I suppose it makes sense that he wants comfort and there has been moments in the past where he's been really attracted to her.

However, I don't want this to be a long term thing b/c Chloe will ultimately get hurt because Clark will get with Lois at some point, and Chloe is so great--I dont' want to see her heart get broken or worse yet, killed off!

I liked the kiss. Chloe just wanted to show Clark that she still has fealings for him and she was probably scared she will never see him again. It wasnt overdone it was just one kiss that said a million words of love and support for Clark.

That might be my favorite kiss of the whole series.

I've been rooting for Chloe to finally get her man.......up until Lois came onto the scene last season. I love Chloe, don't get me wrong, I just like the chemistry between Lois and Clark better. That love/hate thing they have going on is just cloaking their attraction towards one another. Clark loves Chloe, but as a friend. There just isn't any chemistry there.....at least from Clark anyway.

The Chlark kiss was just totally unexpected. But hey, I don't blame the girl for going for it!!!! He is fine!!

I really enjoyed the kiss between Chloe and Clark but I'm not going to look at it as anything other than just a kiss.

Chloe and Clark always have a kiss every season (although I will say this is the first time he reciprocated)

Except of course when he was under the influence---of red kryptonite.

The kiss was great. Better than any Clana or Chlex kiss. I just hope there will no more triangles. I am sick of them. I want Chloe to be happy for once...even if it is with Clark.

The kiss was PHENOMENAL. I'm so speechless. Word to the fantastic reactions everyone had. I'm coming down from the high right now, so I'm a little tired heh, but a few things.

First, if it was "just a kiss" and didn't mean anything, why would they wait til an IMPORTANT episode like the finale to do it in? And why have Clark RECIPROCATE for the FIRST TIME EVER?

They had other opportunities to get it out of the way, like they could've used it as a cover while they were investigating something similar to Magnetic.

But they didn't. This? Means something. And the look Clark gave Chloe when the phone was ringing is CLEARLY meant to be a look of "realization" on Clark's part.

We're gonna be seeing Chlark next season. I can feel it. ;)

I would love to see more Chlark. Perhaps the powers that be can make Chloe, Clark's college girlfriend (in lieu of Lori Lemaris in the comics). Sorry to the Lori fans. I just think that TPTB are toying with us.

Chloe wouldn't have crossed the boundary, knowing how Clark felt about Lana. He has been whining for weeks and weeks. And Clark wouldn't have kissed back.

I liked that Chloe took a chance. Like sstray72 posted she first is just standing there unsure of what to say or do as Clark is about to go out and try and save the world. Then decides WTF, am going let my feelings out no matter how he feels about me. It took courage to let Clark know what he meant to her after what she thought may be her last goodbye to him.
Reminds me of 'Fever". Chloe's afraid Clark may die because she has never seen him so sick so she just goes for it and pours her heart out in the infamous letter. Which was last seen in Lana's hands btw. Whether Clark knew at the time what he was saying because of his illness doesn't really matter. She gets rejected.
Even though Chloe is a "big girl now", she lets Clark know what he means to her even if she never sees him again. It took courage to be that vulnerable after what happened the last time in Fever and Devoted. Doesn't matter if he does or doesn't feel the same. Giving Clark the encouragement of how much she loves and supports him before he has to leave and take of the threat to earth is what is important. Part of the reason why I admire Chloe. I'm just glad he gave her a big kiss back. Loved her look at the end when she broke away from the kiss. It was like go get em! She was proud of Clark. I think her admiration really helps keep Clark going when things are looking pretty dim. Another part of the reason I really like Chloe.
