I thought that this season blew away the other seasons by a long shot, this season was worth the wait from last season... I hope that season 6 can live up to the standards that this season has set. Also, the shower scenes from this season were outstanding;)

So far it appears to be really evolving the show that is and everyone is growing up and dealing with real problems.

My favorite finale is still Covenant from S3. I was into that episode from beginning to end and it gave me what I wanted to see. Clark and Lex's friendship ending, the supposed end of Clana, Clark discovering he would fly, Clark coming closer to connecting with Jor-El, and great cliffhangers all around. Especially with Chloe being blown up. I am still pissed how they resolved that. I mean you clearly see her being engulfed by flames, but in Gone they say there was enough time for a team to get Chloe and her dad out.
In regards to the best cliffhanger, I still feel that Tempest had the best one with Lana being sucked up. That had me one the edge of my seat all summer long. While Tempest as a whole is one of my least favorite finales (too slow), I think it had the best ending out of any of the finales.
I would rank them :
1) Covenant
2) Commencement
3) Exodus
4) Tempest
5) Vessel

Well...this season was up and down for me...but I did love this last episode.
I'd give this episode an 85% and the season as a whole(compared to other seasons) 75%.
Nothing compares to Season 3 in my opinion.

Most writers see seasn finales as "cliffhanger time" not a chance to advance the storyline or chatacter development so, it was a typical season finale.

On the whole I greatly enjoyed this season and the season finale. Because of the overload on this server I went on to TWOP's forum and they were trashing the show and the episode. I could not disagree more. Here are my brief highlights from the characters and the show:
Clark- has had to grow up this year and is (finally) beginning to realize the extent of the consequences of his actions (or non-actions). Being trapped in the PZ should finally teach him that he needs to be PRO-active, not RE-active. Next year, they need to take down a little more of a journalist's path as well.
Lex- ZOD!! Excellent acting by MR on that one. I also love how even with him not being possessed by Zod, he still showed that once he has power that he thinks makes him invincible, his character changes for the worst.
Lana- not my favorite character this year, but I give kudos to the writers for one thing: they have created alomst uniform hatred/intense dislike against her, whether intentionally or not. They have, in essence, created the Omorosa of Smallville.
Chloe- the creators definitely followed through with their promise from last year when they said this would be Chloe's best season. She was brilliant as a character and wonderfully acted all year.
Lionel- what a reversal in the presentation of a character! Only John Glover could pull that off and make it credible.
Martha- obviously on the fence about dating Lionel, especially with him now protecting her son. I hope they use her more from the parenting angle in season 6.
Lois- they do need to take her down a more journalistic path as well, but I still like Erica Durance playing her. She's got the attitude down pat.
Overall, wonderful episode and season. I think there was a great deal more continuity than most people are willing to give it credit for and I will certainly be watching next year.
