Many movie DVDs have low sound volume quality.

It seems that Many movie DVDs have low audio volume. I find that its awfully curious that sometimes you have to ride the volume control as far at it can go, with little improvement. And no my hearing isn't damaged. I think it may have something to do with mass production of merchandise or something like that.

Has anyone else notice this trend?

Yes, a lot of the DVD's we buy are the same. I also have to turn it up as far as the sound will go to just get it to an audible range. I'm not hearing impaired either.

It is worse if the DVD's are played on a Playstation 2 console, like we often do... so if it is the DVD or the console I'm not exactly sure... but some are just as bad on our DVD player... makes you wonder how they dare charge so much for some DVD's.

I've noticed this as well, but generally on DVDs of movies that came out before DVDs existed. I recently checked out the Mel Gibson movie, The Year of Living Dangerously. Great film, but in order to hear it I had to turn the volume on my TV almost all the way up.

Anyway, it's not just you, Radioflyer. I've noticed the same thing.

On some TVs if you have the audio/video set up for Surround sound and you do not have those speakers hooked up you hear the background well and not the main speakers/voices. Try going into your TV set up and changing your set up to your actual set up. I've been told the news option on some sets gives the best voice quality, but my set doesn't have that. You might want to experiment with different settings to find the best for your situation.

Best of Luck to you......
