of all people in smallville, why would jor-el choose to inhabit lionel? lionel has always been the villain, clark has never trusted him.
wouldn't it make sense for jor-el to choose to inhabit jonathan or someone else? someone who clark ACTUALLY TRUSTS and wouldnt be inclined to doubt or want to kill?
don't get me wrong, im enjoying this all, but it just seems too convenient for me. and LEX being a vessel for zod? why does zod choose lex?
its unrealistic, but fun to watch.

He happened to be holding the right stone at the wrong time? Back in season 4?

Simply put, Lionel was the one who got supercharged by the kryptonian artifact. So he's basically the one person in Smallville that could serve as a vessel for Jor-El..
As for Lex, if anything it seems as if Braniac chose him to be the vessel if that's what happens.

Zod doesn't choose lex, not at first. I think he actually wanted Clark.

was it just a random thing?
OR is it because lionel had the transference stone on him in commencement? maybe jor-el could only use the body of whoever posessed the transference stone to use as a vessel?
if lex had the stone, would lex be inhabited by jor-el?
i like and accept this theory.

Yes, that's it -- I'd forgotten that that was the same stone that allowed Lionel and Clark to switch bodies in the middle of season 4.

That would have been AWESOME!! Then we'd finally get our scene of Lex hugging Clark and telling him that he loves him ;)

why lionel is the question, he certianly had ulterior motive of own before this now he seems to want to help Clark. I mean why jor-el choose him or was it just a random thing.

Lionel isn't in the true Superman history, therefore they can tamper with him as much as they want. Who else would Jor-El inhabit? Obviously not Clark because he's the main character. Lex is Clarks' enemy, therefore he couldn't be inhabited by his father. Which leaves us with Martha, Chloe, Lana, Lois, and Lionel. Can you really imagine Martha, Chloe, Lana, or Lois being Jor-El? No, Lionel is the perfect vessel for Jor-El. I predict that Lionel will be dead by the middle of the sixth season.

Maybe because Lionel was the greatest threat to Clark -- if he was evil Lionel. Or maybe because Lionel was already trying to protect Clark -- if he was good Lionel. Either way, it makes sense to me. Especially since Lionel was attempting to collect the stones.

I think if the writers wanted to have Jor-el use a body as a vessel to communicate with Clark, they should have went with Jonathan. He raised Clark(with Martha) and Clark loved and respected his dad. He knew his son better than most people and Jor-el could have used this to get closer to Clark and made it easier for Clark to go to Jor-el whenever he needed his help.
Maybe Jor-el kept Lionel as a host body to inhabit because they are similar to each other. They both have sons that would rather be distant than close. They both would stop at nothing to achieve their goals(Jor-el controlling Clark, Lionel anything that he could to be more powerful, which would include Martha-she's a senator now and in a position of power, he could manipulate this to suit his own status, more companies and property) regardless of who's expense.
