Um isn't it kind of stupid to bring a large box filled with alien transcripts followed by conversation of aliens and conspiracy of the end of the world to a public place like the Daily Planet???!!!
Shouldn't they have just invited Chloe to Lionel's office?

Yeah, Lionel might as well have a neon sign over him saying "You are all going to die."

Clarka nd Chloe are always doing stupid stuff like this. Hmm lets talk about Clark being a alien right in the Daily Parent so when Superman shows up no one there will ever have a clue who the alien superhero is:rolleyes:

That wasn't as bad as Chloe and Clark in last week's episode. "We'd better make sure that the invisible guy who could be anywhere at any time doesn't find out that your secret weakness is METEOR ROCKS. Wouldn't it be awful if he found out your weakness is METEOR ROCKS. Gosh, I hope he doesn't find out your weakness is METEOR ROCKS." :p

I've given up hope that Smallville will use any tact in this area, so I just sit and have a good laugh.

I totally agree with you there! I posted a diatribe about this on another board, actually! It just drives me crazy everytime Chloe and Clark start talking about this SUPER SECRET stuff when there are reporters and other types less than five feet away!
sheesh!

 You're right -- that was so much dumber. I swear, Clark's secret is the worst kept secret ever.
It makes no sense that not a soul in the room is the least bit curious that LIONEL LUTHOR, a very well-known figure in Metropolis and Smallville, simply waltzed in with Clark and hundreds, if not thousands, of pieces of paper with strange symbols on them. Even they were in the basement, there had to be someone there as curious as Chloe who would eavesdrop on what was going on in that conversation or try to sneak a peak at what was written on those documents. I doubt if anyone even asked Chloe what she was doing when she was scanning those documents.

Yes, that's it exactly! You'd think someone would be all "hey, Lionel Luthor is here, maybe I shoudl try to get an interview or find out what he'd talking about!"

Don't you all know, Chloes magical all powerful computer made it impossible for anybody to listen in on their conversation. Duh. :p :D
But seriously, I was wondering about that, they just start talking about this plan to end the world in a public building full of nosy reporters.

time was they'd have these discussions at night or the wee hours of the a.m. when they were practically the only ones in the building
then they also started including discussions in the empty copyroom
that was fine...it made sense!
but this walking down the staircase surrounded by people or during the daytime when everyone is within a few feet or less of them, simply boggles the mind
I rank that right down there with them discussing Clark's weakness (in Fade) in the middle of a busy room and even after they knew that the FOTW could be invisible and potentially spy on them and overhear them (which he did)!
color me clueless...I just don't get it either
I thought only teenagers had selective hearing, LOL

Well, you'd think Clark/Chloe would have learned their lesson in Fade and MB should just flat out know better.... but I guess BDA syndrome is contagious.

firstly, the only thing that annoys me about smallville... are these forums and silly little speculations people rag on about.
ok that said and done, you readers will play the part of a DP reporter.
DP reporter: oh! good evening there mr. Luthor!
Lionel Luther: yes yes good evening to you too... if you may we have important matters to attend to, and i would like it if you gave us a little bit of privacy.
*Clark and Chloe smiles*
DP reporter: not a problem sir, but... out of curiosity i was just wondering why or what the great mr. Luthor would be doing here at the DP at 12am hanging out with a bunch of kids? consider it the curse of being a respected and committed reporter.
*DP reporter grins*
Lionel Luther: *sighs* well if theres one thing i know about you reporters, you never give up until you get your story.
DP reporter: well said mr. Luthor
Clark: Lionel you MB! dont tell...
Lionel Luther: Clark please, i know what reporters like him are like... i have been chased around by these pests too many times.
DP reporter: indeed sir
Lionel Luther: ok... look here you little punk, the truth is we are trying to solve the mystery of these symbols here...
*Lionel hands his diary to the DP reporter*
Lionel Luther: you see, these may be clues hinting out to us about an alien race plotting on desecrating our entire planet.
*Clark plays along*
Clark: ahh...yeah... and this handsome young lad here, who you see round all the time hanging out with your co-worker Chloe here... is actually a mutant of some sort from a planet called Krypton.
DP reporter: hahaha... next thing you gonna tell me you got super human powers? and that ms. Chloe is some super side kick of yours with incredible computer hacking abilities?
Clark and Chloe: yes yes! thats it!
Lionel Luther: and if you could please be so kind to go along and print out this story on the DP papers... oh what the heck? throw it on the front page i'd say!
DP reporter: hahaha yeah right... im not gonna risk my career or job to print out some silly little story about aliens!... taking over our planet... get real! here take back your diary, and enjoy your night playing ghost busters!
*DP reporter leaves*
*Clark, Chloe and Lionel giggles*
Clark: phew, good thing for us his not a strong believer in life on other planets.
Lionel Luther: worry not yourselfs... by morning that annoying reporter friend, will not have a job nor know his own existence.
*Clark, Chloe and Lionel laughs out loud*
so there you go... that is just one of many examples or outcomes that could happen if anyone felt a little curious to why Lionel was at the DP. picture it... and think about your own reactions if you were there!

I realize you meant that as a scold, but I have to say, I totally disagree. I am having so much fun reading people's posts after this ep. It's making the episode even better. Other people pick up details that I miss. The show just gets richer reading all the opinions.
And as for the DP -- people are so self absorbed, meaning busy, at a newspaper. I doubt anyone would notice -- especially in the basement, where you have interns and beginners who may not know who Lionel Luther is.

I don't think this is a "silly little speculation" that we're blowing out of proportion. It's been pointed out on the show how important it is to keep Clark's secret a secret, but that seems to ring hollow when the main characters are so cavalier about discussing it in a public place. It would have been very simple to have the scene take place somewhere more private, like Lionel's office or a back room at the DP. I don't think it's too much to ask for a little common sense and consistency.

Good points. Also, I guess talking openly about Krypton and such in a busy newspaper office isn't much worse than Martha attracting media attention as a state senator. We've yet to see anyone pry into her private life now that she's a public official.

What I don't get is people who say they don't like forums coming into said forums and writing that they don't like forums. ::eyeroll::
Seriously, is it too much to ask that the writers DO NOT put one of the town's two most recognizable billionaires in the basement of the Daily Planet with boxes of mysterious papers covered in alien symbols and sketches while rather loudly discussing some sort of nefarious virus that could obliterate all of humanity?

Why hasn't someone just booted Clark out of the Planet anyway? He's seriously there like, ALL THE TIME. Sure, he got the press pass in Fade, but what the heck was he using as his excuse before?
