If the PTB's would just get back to good writing and stop all the silly future set-up. The show could be what it use to be. We know Clark and Lois get together, we know Lex is evil, stop making Clark wear Blue T-shirts with a red Jacket... Stop hitting us over the head with all of the same stories, We get it...He's Superman, now get back to showing us WHY!!!
what are u talking about man, the writers are doing fine, what else would u like them to do

The writers are destroying the show and the characters, and not just Lana. Every single character on this show has been destroyed. Most importantly, Clark and Lex are nothing like their comic book counterparts. As far as Lex goes, he can't hold a candle to Lionel. I hope Lex doesn't kill Lionel, he'll never be as good as Lionel, that just going off from what I've seen on this show.

I really enjoyed this episode. I thought there was some continuity, some future references were made. There were great special effects. Yeah Clark is pining over Lana, but I think he is behaving like any normal guy would. He not obsessing over it. He is genuinely concerned for her. Yeah, He'd probably rather it be him kissing Lana and NOT Lex, but he's trying to accept it at least on the surface. Of course he will have to do that in his own time. And that's OK just as long as he takes care of Superman business too.
I like how they are keeping the memory of Jonathan in the show. As much as possible for a dead guy. They refer to what he would do in certain situations and mentions him often as well.
This is probably superman blasphemy and I know Hal Jordan is gonna have a hissy fit but I'm gonna risk it. No way he can find me, right?. HEHE JK
I realize that Superman mythos has undergone some changes over the years pre crisis, post crisis, silver age, and now Smallville. I like SV's take on our great hero. For me, it makes Superman and Clark and interesting guy. He was raised by humans with high moral values and even higher expectations for their beloved son., They set the moral standard themselves. Clark learned early and he learned well to be able to discern right from wrong and good from bad. He was fortunate enough to grow up in such an accepting and nurturing environment. He learned to like what he thinks it means to be human. In fact, he learned that before he knew he was an alien. He so badly wanted to be human, but I think he figured out early on that he is NOT human on so many levels. No matter how many times he prays to be human, his physiology and biology just won't let it be. I think he is figuring that even though his biology and physiology are not human, but his heart and soul are human. He can't change who he is, and he can't easily change who he wants to be. I recommend a mind meld.
I like that he experiences great struggles which normal people experience. I like that he gets knocked down and gets back up. I like that he sometimes makes little mistakes. I like that he is sometimes niave. He has an innocence that makes Superman truly an altruistic man. and a man who sees good in people which is certainly something Clark tries to do.
He wants things in his life that he sees others around him have. For example, a girl of his dreams. He is not much driven by material things and that alone makes him exremely special and rare.
I like to watch him struggle with decisions that are very hard for him. And then we watch him as he has to live with those decisions. I like that SV superman didn't just up and say, I'm gonna be Superman so no one will know it is Clark because all of Clark Kents friends and family will be in danger. I'm glad he saved Lex tonight. Not for Lex, but for Clark. It is Supermanly to save someone he may not like or trust and who's death could benefit himself. This is putting others first and if that is not Supermanesque, I don't know what is. I like the whiny Clark to some extent because it is so human to whine and complain about what's bothering you. He is taking good care of his mother; even risking confirming that Lionel "KNOWS''. Keeping his secret is no longer as important to him as it once was or he would not be using his powers so visibly. I think keeping his secret would be his first choice, but if it gets out, he's decided he'll deal with it when it gets out. He told Lionel as much. Don't get me wrong about his secret, he wants to keep it but when he told Chloe that he hopes he can find a way not to have to hide who he really is, that made me think he is slowly preparing himself to come out of the Superman closet.
Niavity is not a sin. It is an inconvenience. Assuming no one is listening to you talk about what can kill you was not wise. But Chloe, whom I believe to be pretty wise, was discussing it too.
As I duck and run....I think Clark Kent is the man and Superman is the alterego, the personna Clark uses to do what Superman does. It's Clark who was raised as a human. It was Clark who played with other human kids, went to school with them, worked on the farm with his human dad. It was Clark who developed a strong love for the human race and wants to help them. It's Clark, an alien, who has been accepted by the humans who know him. Some know more than others. It was Clark, whom we met in SV, but it will be Superman who he uses to fulfill his destiny.
Knowing or not knowing his secret has not prevented Clark from establishing relationships. Maybe it made them a little tricky. Lana couldn't accept him as face value. If she didn't keep asking him about his secrets, how much lying would Clark have had to do? Clark clearly was a nice and honorable guy; just didn't like talking about himself. Granted some might have gone more smoothly if more information was divulged, but that was Clark's Decision; not ours and not Lana's. He has a right to his secrets, just like Lex, Lionel, Chloe, Lana, Lois, you, me, etc.
I like it when Clark hits rock bottom. I like the way he figures out how to pull himself by by his bootstraps. I think this is good trial and error learning. I think working under so much stress, duress, and mass pressure is good for him and will help him later.
Tonight, I felt Clark was wiser and more mature. It's human to hurt. Clark is hurting especially regarding Lana. How could he not? As lame as some believe it to be, Clark did really breakup with Lana to keep her from getting hurt. That was his true intention. He tried to calmly warn Lana but backed off when she told him she doesn't need him. He broke up with her. She's accepted it and is moving on to the next guy. I do find it interesting that the guy she moves on with is an adversary of Clark's. Might be some 'digging the knife in the gut and twisting it" going on. It's not so unusuall. I've done that before, It's a cartharsis right up until you feel guilty about it.
No one is perfect. Not even close. But, I think Clark will come close and soon.

I didn't mind the FOTW. If they don't come up with FOTW, who will be adversaries potent enough to give Clark a bit of a challenge? I think that if TPTB want to hit on world problems, they could let Superman solve some of them. But, I think people would grow tire of a frequent diet of that as well. I say mix it up. Freaks, comedies, tragedies, little (emphasis on little) romance, parent child moments. There is so much fodder to feed us.
New clothes. Clark looks so nice is casual dress. He looks good in jeans as well. But, again I say mix it up.

They did it twice. They talked about him (Martha & Lois) and they also more importantly showed how fond Clark was of his father and how he wanted to follow in his footsteps. That scene where Clark returned the TV & video game was right out of the JK handbook. He has definitely matured there (in S1, he would have complained about it). He also is maturing in dealing with Lana. I am very glad their relationship is over though. Anything that could be between them now is strictly friendship. I think this tough year for Clark is hardening him into who he will ultimately become.

Clark's colors when walking down the Blvd with Chloe at the begining, aside from painfully obvious as to the Supes reference, was interesting in that I felt everyone and everything else was so drab as to be in B&W, he was the only character in color. Meaning? I dunno, just something I noticed.
I also noticed I'm getting a little more than freaked out by Farm Boy. Chloe is SO right that Lana has a right to her own choices, despite what Clark may think of them, that she is also Lana's friend and is under no obligation to tell every little detail to Clark just because he broke up with Lana (despite his reasoning that he saved her...think you saved her now, Clown-El? She's messing with Lex).
And of course, Chloe is the force that's holding everything together in so many ways. She has a rational grip on things, even with the looks she gives Clark when she says maybe it's time for him to move on, too (like, "...uh, hey Super Dimwit.....take ME, would you???")
I felt more positive for Lexana and a seemingly wish for Lex's friendship with Clark to return, even if under it all Lex alsways has those darker motives. Dang, man, you could make Lexmas so real, you are so close......
Ah, but I'll rant on with other threads....
Clark is starting to scare me.....where the heck IS Superman???????

the writing has been a little shaky this season but this ep wasn't bad. I think tptb are giving fans alot of what they want to see.The end of Clana more Chlark more evil Lex etc. of course we want more .
maybe they are trying their hand at continuity but its still not flowing right. all in all this season has not been in vain.
And btw i thought splinter was hilarious -its a keeper for me

What I hope to see soon is Clark having a villain for a long time in the season, not just a few episodes.
We know Milton Fine is, but he hasn't been around enough to give him much of a threat.
Hopefully once Zod comes along, he will be a character to stay and wreak havoc in each episode moving Clark towards becoming Superman with each step of trying to stop him.
That is what I want instead of this crappy love triangle between Lex, Lana, and Clark.
Get it over already, it is making me sick to watch them two kiss.

agreed superman 115 they need a steady supervillian that wreaks havoc each week for a minute. the type of havoc that can't be resolved in one ep either.

Very well said and I agree. I think that you got the whole thing down to what is and has happened. I have followed Superman since the early 1940's and if you go back to those old TV, Radio show's and Movie's and even the early comic books, you will find that you actually hit the nail on the head. SV has some bad habits but for the most part they do an excellent job. Good job....

WOW... this is a great post! You've pointed out several things I have been thinking on the entire time I've watched SV. I, too, believe that Superman is the way he is because Clark has fully accepted his destiny and place on earth. The Clark in SV hasn't done this yet, because, as you've said, he's been raised as a human, has human traits, emotions, and pitfalls. Plus, you have to remember, Clark's only 18 years old (so thereabouts)... and adolescence is the time where you are actively searching for your identity, coming to terms with who and what you are, and accepting your destiny, no matter how large or small it is.
SV's Clark is working his way through this process. What we will see on the other end is Superman. It's the journey that has me captivated. Maybe the writers have dragged out some things that shouldn't have been, but overall I feel the writing has been pretty good (there are exceptions to the rule). I would like to see Clark face a more formidable enemy next season, but up until now, I'm kinda glad he hasn't. With all these other issues he's been dealing with, I think it would've been too much to put him up to a Brainiac or Zod. Since Clark has matured this season, it's time for the bigger guns.
Excellent post! :)

I don't think Zod should be his enemy yet. He is a Superman enemy, not a pre-Superman enemy. I think Lex should start doing more dangerous experiments, and Clark should start investigating them and using these investigations to begin his journalism days while fighting Lex on all fronts. I wanted Milton Fine to be around more this season after Solitude, but it just hasn't happened. I would like to see a superpower who wreaks havoc, but other than Fine, I don't think anyone else can fill that role at this point. And I think Fine will be through after early S6.
Maybe my Clark vs. Kal-El idea could be done. Perhaps Clark could intentionally release his Kal-El side when being surrounded in a room full of kryptonite by Fine and his only way out would be to use heatvision to turn the green-k to black-k. Then he can agree to work with his Kal-El side until after they beat Fine where they would battle for the control of his body. But this battle could take place throughout the season with Clark getting his ass kicked (but not to the point that they re-merge) everytime until the S7 opener. Between battles with Kal-El, he can get advice from Jor-El to beat his other half and ultimately do it. To add more suspense, they can have Fine throw Lana in the same green-k filled room as Clark and witness his secret. This would be after we can find out that Fine is the one who showed Lana the satellite images of Clark's ship landing and used her to be a distraction to Clark while destroying humans with the virus. Man, what a series of events that would be.

Yeah. That way after Clark & Kal-El stop Milton Fine and Lexana continues, they can have Lana know the secret while still being with Lex. Some interesting scenes would certainly follow, one of which I would suggest would be Lana finding out about the room Lex has with all those items related his Clark obsession.
