this comes as no suprise but he did blatently lie to lana by saying he didn't know anything about fine's whereabouts and there he was chatting to brainiac about the new virus he has thats going to kill the world. what a liar, i cant wait till they break up!

My question is, If Lex has begged to be with Lana for a long time, now that he has here, why is he messing with viruses? I mean go off and make Lexana babies and leave us superman fans alone.

Unlike Clark, Lex is actively pursuing his destiny, and Lex's goals are big. Right now, Lana's a part of those goals, but she's only a part of them, and Lex isn't going to give up his other dreams to satisfy this one.

Also, even though it's clear that Lex does legitimately care for Lana (the way he threw himself on top of her to protect her from the shooter as an example), I suspect there are other things he cares for more, knowledge and power being big among them. I suspect if he had to choose, Lana might realize what a huge mistake she'd made trusting him.

i knew lex was lying the entire time... whenver he arrived at his mansion to find lana waiting there.. hoping she wanted to see him, but all she wanted was answers.. i think that turned the tides for what he was originally going to say to her...

lana is REALLY curious about milton fine.. they are detailing much of her curiosity tho...

it seemed to me that lex and brainiac are both in on the virus actually....

i actually havnt been following the project mercury blog.. maybe i should read up on it..

So Lex was probably being truthful to Lana's direct question, but he certainly wasn't elaborating on the question or offering any thing extra..

But lexana is soon to be dead in the water if lex is going to be tinkering with viruses.clark will prob. find out the truth and tell lana.cause he'll do anything to break them up right about now.

So far, I don't think Lex is helping him. It is possible that Lex is maintaining a connection with Fine to know what he is up to. A guy with no trace in the records, and who seems to have suspecious activities and strings connecting him to strange things (the space ship.) What would you do? Scare him off, or try to see what he has?

That of course would not dismiss that Lex might also see the Virus as something interesting to have in his pocket (if only for research purposes :p .)

Of course. No one is better in breaking things up than dear old Clark. He spends several years trying to get close to Lana and draging her into a relationship with him, then "nope, can't do it, don't want to tell her my big old secret. I'm not sure she is the one. Let me just break up with her and break her heart. She can take it like a big girl." Then you want Lana to trust Clark when he tries to break her up with Lex?

I don't think Lex is the type of villain who would do such a thing (definitly not at this stage anyway.) In the other hand, if someone else did release the virus, then he might not mind getting some benifit from selling the anti-virus to the government, and maybe get a reputation as the man who saved every body along the way (the future lex is a popular guy, he might even get to be ellected as president.)

He might want to get the virus for "military pruposes", or as something that might prove useful in the future (like the real life Bubonic plague which were kept in labs for the potential use as a biological weapon.)

I think that Lex would actually be closer to a real life corporate bad guy than your average evil laugh comic villain. While superman might be a fantastic out of this world character, Lex character is pretty much a fact of life to a good degree.
