It's way too early for this thread, but I wanted to bring up what Craig posted on the home page, that the LA market will not see this episode until Friday...which means, they won't be part of Thursday's Fast Nationals...which means the ratings *may* not be as strong this episode.

So, now that we know this ahead of time...carry on. :p

Even if they are slightly worse than Mercy, it still means that Smallville isn't gaining back any of it's audience that it has been losing since reckoning.

That's doubtful. Smallville's ratings are following a trend for all shows at this time of year. All ratings typically decline the 2nd half of the tv season, then rise again during sweeps and again during finale time. Not only that, but Smallville's ratings have followed their own trend by peaking at both the start of the season and then the finale, but gradually dipping throughout the rest of its season run. Sure, ratings go up and down week to week, but as long as Smallville is hitting its numbers for their key demographics, this weekly panic doesn't really need to happen.

Yeah but Smallville's ratings never declined in the middle of the season. They were consistently on top until episode 15, with a minor decline after Reckoning. It's this last string of episodes where the ratings are taking a hit, a time when they should be going back up.

I think this ep will do the same as the last few eps before it, but I'm not worried. The show will be picked up and the finale will do a big number. Hopefully it will have a Superman Returns preview like the BB preview last year.

its on in about an hour so everyone go and email everyone in your address book or go in chatrooms and tell everyone to tune in and lets see if we can boost the rating ourselves

The rating is going to be poor. LA isnt able to watch it. Its not a big deal but its going to be a bad rating.

LA is not going to take down ratings that much. Bottom line is they better improve this episode, and by improve I mean that the rating itself should come close to last week, because then if you factor in LA, it would mean an increase in the ratings.

The ratings are down from last week. Not surprising though.

The ratings certainly aren't increasing like they should late in the season. I wonder why.

Just saw the ratings on the news page. 6th place. Good thing there are only two episodes left or they would need to dig a hole the ratings going so low. Thank god it's not related to Lexana or the death of Clana. Must just be the poor stories and FOTWs. Now I remember, it's the poor advertising and promos and too much sex and ..............
The Truth for me is as much as I could hardly wait each week for a new episode, now I don't even watch when it airs. I kept hoping that once James came back, maybe the stories would improve and they would get off the Lexana. I realized today that Lex and Lana have kissed more this season than Lana and Clark in the past 3 seasons combined.
I think they need two huge episodes now to get the show back on track or come fall not enough people are going to care what they do next season. They have the base, the characters, the future of superman in view, but they can't seem to fill in the blanks with anything but filler. Tasteless, colorless, humorless, thoughtless filler. I used to watch a DVD episode nearly everyday, but now I don't care. Why should a casual fan care? It appears they don't anymore.

Hey they are not nearly as bad as Hypnotic. They are over 3 million and in between 3 and 5 million. They are going strong.

The show got 4.47 million viewers based on the early numbers, which is already higher than last week.

When the final number comes out and the L.A audience gets added on it will be even higher.

We have to remember that Smallville's timeslot is probably one of the most coveted in all of Television broadcasting.
Thursday nights at 8/7c is tough competition, so unless we can multiply ourselves, we may never seen Smallville beat Survivor. :)
I definitely do agree that once we started heading into this last stretch to the finale and get more into Clark becoming Superman and the possible appearance of Zod, we will see a better showing.
Plus, May Sweeps and Finales usually go hand in hand to produce better ratings.
As long as we stay faithful to the program and encourage others to check it out, it will be a strong contender.

Thursday is nowhere near what it used to be. NBC doesn't put out good programming anymore, like they did in the past with Friends and Seinfeld...just to name a few. I think what we really have to watch out for is the start of next season. If this lexana storyling keeps up, season 6 will start off poorly and that is what could kill this show. There will be a season 6 because of the ratings earlier in the year, but the finale means everything. Give the fans what they want, and there will not be a problem. Don't give them what they want, and there will be hell to pay.

Well, as of now, there is no season 6 since no official word has come in that the show will be renewed. I wonder how pissed the fans will be if it gets cancelled and the series finale next week will end up with Lexana. That would suck big time.

At the same time, I wonder if they do get another season, if they will plan it on being the last season, or if they will leave room for cliffhangers.

They're definitely having a 6th season. I believe tv.com just posted a list for next year and Smallville is on it. But if I'm the writers, I use this summer to think back at what went wrong in season 5, and hopefully after about 2 minutes of thinking, Reckoning and the episodes that followed it should come to mind. I don't want to hear that the 5th season is a ratings success anymore. The first 12 episodes mean nothing if you lose a large portion of your audience the second half of the season after you advertise the hell out of this season being everything that the fans have waited to see. No one would've stopped watching if all hope of that diminished after Reckoning.

Rating couldn't be as bad as they were for Hypnotic because that was episode was pure character assasination. The writers really dropped the ball on that one. I am afraid Lexana is going to destroy this program. Please give us more Super and less Soap!

Myankskent, you said it perfectly and I couldn't have said it any better myself. True, the show had definately showed signs of getting better at the beginning of the season, but after the 100th episode, it all went downhill all over again. They said this season would be everything we've ever wanted to see, and I just have one question. Do TPTB even have a clue as to what the hell the fans want, or are they so caught up preparing this new gay Aquaman TV show that they just don't care anymore? With the exception of Brainiac, I haven't seen anything I've wanted to see this season. I never wanted to see Lex and Lana hook up (I still can't believe they're actually doing that) and I never really cared about Clark and Lana getting back together either. What I wanted to see was see Clark grow up and stop being such an insecure wuss, I wanted to see Lana learn his secret and him finally getting over her so they could be nothing more and nothing less than close friends, and I wanted to see an end to all the painfull angst crap that's plagued this show since season 3, not more of it. So yeah, they'd better fix all this crap over the summer while they're preparing season 6, or I'm done with this show for good!
