Poor guy, how can he hope to be a hero when every villian can get kryptonite rocks at the local 7-11 with a pack of gum that tells everyone it is his weakness.

lionel is powerful again he could easily collect it up and hide it where only he or clark could find it.

Why don't the writers just make it rare like it is in the original superman comics. In one issue if I remember right Lex actually had to go to outer space to find some.
As SVSpector stated in Smallville it is common you can buy it at the 7-11 with gum and instructions on how it is Clark's weakness.

This is the fatal flaw of the Superman story. Well, one of them. Kryptonite is his only weakness, and thus it has to happen to him a lot.
The other flaw of course is the universe he lives in -- people there are dumb enough that they can't tell Clark from Superman even though only a pair of glasses separates them.
You have to be able to set aside your problems with these flaws in order to enjoy this show and this character...

I do put it aside and enjoy the show, still...I just like to make note when the most powerful hero gets his tail handed to him on a regular basis by joe smo. No human should ever best him on his worst day even with a truck load of k-nite.
I realize the special effects budget would be expensive, but I would like to see a battle that is worthy of young Superman using his full raw unlimited power. Say battling a young Doomsday in full view of Lana ending with Clark punching him so hard that he knocks him into space where Doomsday travels until he one day comes back to Earth to get revenge. That is how he should reveal his secret to her so she can understand who he is.
That is probably a battle for Superman....hope I get to see it on a big screen one day....these human villains are killing me.
End of rant

I got to agree they are having him get his tail kicked every other episode. This is Superman as a young adult but he is still Superman and they need to quit the humans using kryptonite to kick his tail.

He has 3 other weaknesses. Magic, red sunlight (which will never be explored in SV), and his compassion for living beings.
As for why people can't see through the glasses... well quite simply, aside from the old hypnotism idea which has been abandoned, it's that people aren't trying to figure out his identity. They see him as Superman without a mask and he can be anywhere in the world instantly... so for the most part, they therefore think that he's Superman 24/7 and doesn't have another identity. Also Luthor's logic on this subject is that if you have that kind of power then why would anyone try to hide it?
--------------------------
Okay, back on subject now... yea there is WAAAAY too much Kryptonite around. Also since it's his only weakness it would make scense that they would sell the farm and buy one somewhere else. I mean seriously... it's EVERYWHERE. Lets replace Clark with a normal human boy. There is an old war zone around his house and as a result there are unedploded shells and landmines all around where he likes to play. Are his parents gonna stay there if they have the means to move elsewhere where it's safe? No they wouldn't... they would move. It's in this respect that Ma and Pa Kent are selfish on Smallville.
In the comics it is fairly rare. Not too sure who has the most of it now but there was a point when the Justice League (or maybe it was just Superman) was collecting it all to keep it hidden and locked up.

I'm not so sure it has to happen to him a lot. As I understand it, Kryptonite wasn't introduced at all until the radio show. I've watched quite a bit of the old Adventures of Superman, including all of Season 1, and there was no reference to Kryptonite in that entire show.
Even Lois and Clark used Kryptonite very rarely. Season 1 had (I believe) only two instances of green K, with maybe 2 or 3 in season 2 (plus a red K episode in there).
I think what you said would be more accurate if we said "and thus it's convenient for writers to use that on him a lot." =)

If the writing for the show was stronger, they wouldn't have to use kryptonite every other week in the storylines.
