After reading some posts here, I don't see what's so shocking about Lionel's harsh comment towards Lex, by saying "Clark is a son that a father can be proud of". Both Lex and Lionel had their shares of saying worse things than that. And we shouldn't forget that earlier in this episode, Lex showed no concern towards his father when he discovered he was almost killed by that train.

And to express more hate, Lex made the blatantly cold statement, stating how he wouldn't want anything to happen to him, cuz he's a financial asset to Luthor Corp. If I were Lex, I probably would've been on the defensive as well after Lionel accused me of trying to off him. But still, that was a pretty sharp blow, not to express genuine sympathy towards his father, after escaping near death. So in this episode, I don't really feel sorry for Lex, at all.

Personally, I think one of the worst things he's siad to Lex (which may be true) is when he ran for senator. I forget what episode, but Lionel said something like, "no matter how hard you try to make the world percieve you as good, deep down, the people that really knows you will always know what's in your heart. And for that, Lana will never love you."

Just my thoughts.:o

Yeah, he said,
"Even if you were running for President of the United States, do you really think that's gonna make a difference? Because those closest to you will always know what is truly in your heart. That's why Lana Lang will never love you, son."

What was weired about that scene though, at least to me, was the beautiful, peaceful music playing in the background by the band Moby. That music was so beautful, and to have it in a Lionel Lex scene was a very strange, but awesome, dynamic. Do you have any theories on why they played that particular music? Perhaps it's suggesting Lionel's good after all?
