Lex knows that Lionel knows something about Clark. He is going to go after that knowledge, what will he do?

He knows the catatonic state did something, using words like Kal-el and Krypton, drawing symbols, knowing about the ship Lex had, and now with the "special" and "needs you to be man the world so desperately needs". Lex will go after the father and soon.

Yah I am beside myself. This episode had me going crazy. Clark went and talked to Lionel and Lex is gonna persue Clark even more now.

I found it funny actually-- lex seems to pretty much know clark's abilities anyway.

What Lex seems to know (taken from his POV):

1)Clark is invulnerable and can turn off that ability at will. - Clark "died" in the third episode and came back to life. But Clark was able to "turn off" his invincibility to "prove to Lex that he was normal".

2) Clark can either teleport or move really, really fast. He mentioned this in this episode, when he told Lionel that "one minute Clark was with me, the next he was on the other side of town".

3) Clark is superhumanly strong. Lex knows that Clark had something to do with the elevator stopping, and it wasn't a technical thing. He also pauses and kind of examines the hole that Clark made when he burst into the room.

I think it's getting pretty neat. I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the series he had solid confirmation on Clark's powers-- just not his origins.

Oh yea Lex will now be more interested in Clark now after what Lionel said. Lex doesn't know what to think but continues to live in lies, with Clark with Lana, heck with most of the people he interacts with.

So who will Lex go after first, Lionel or Clark?

Lionel, that way it will be less likely to effact things with Lana and if it doesn't work out he still has Clark left to go after.

Agreed!

Going after Clark has proved fruitless in the past...so i believe Lionel is next on Lex's hit list.

Not only that, how many times has he ended on the short end of the stick with Clark. I don't think he wants to go there til he has all the facts.

Not to mention, going after Lionel could conceivably tell him more about Clark; since, to Lex, it is fairly obvious Lionel knows more than he is telling. So going after Lionel is almost killing both birds with one stone.

Well i dont know if everyone is taking notice of what lex is doing but he is trying to reinvent his friendship with clark like he saw in lexmas i mean he figures he's a few steps away from getting lana Clark wont be too far behind. but his obsession with power and knowledge is what is driving him into not having his vision/foresight fulfilled. The Lex we saw in Lexmas wasnt obsessed with power or knowledge he just cared about his friends and his familyand wanting to be happy like the kents were. This lex wants all that but wants the power and knowledge more than the love. everyone will see that lex's quest for love will become second as for his thirst for power will be first.

Lex also knows that he will not ever get his secret from Clark. Clark is able to cover his tracks, barely but he can. Lex has spent almost 6 years of investigating Clark but he has never had any solid evidence of saying Clark isnt normal. He just has his hunches. in a world of like this you cant be taken seriously with hunches and Lex knows this.

Lex is becoming impatient to learning about Clark's secret. We've seen him make several attempts to learning the secret of Clark Kent. i.e. Hypnotic, trying to get answers towards the end of Aqua, Mortal, and other times throughout the years and he has never proved to be successful. The best thing lex can do is look towards the man that seems to have more knowledge than anyone else on things and that is is father Lionel. Lionel is able to have knowledge of things and keeping it secret and good at making his tracks disappear. Lex will without a doubt play the role of getting closer to his father, or keeping a closer eye on his father to be able to get the knowledge he needs on the mystery that is Clark Kent, no matter what the final results are for the knowledge he gets.

I find it odd that you would say he'll try to be friends with Clark again, because if he has Lana, then that will upset Clark and a friendship could never happen.

Lex has no choice but to after Lionel, however, with this Fine stuff he may put that on hold til he knows what's going on with Fine. That's why I think Lionel is safe for the moment. Start of next season though, he's going after Lionel.

That is interesting, and I agree with most of things you said. However, what if Lana finds out about clark as Cloe did. or something like that. I mean this lexana thing sounds a bit lame, and i cannot believe Lana is getting out from Clark's life, beside Lois is yet a very weak character in that sense, she sounds too often obtuse as in fragile (she did not deal well with the girl!).
However that is just a thought. But i guess we are too near the season finale to have too much space with speculations, we'll see.

I just love the fact that lex doesnt really care about clark and his friendship its all a front to find out clarks secret.

Plus lex is tapping the old lana front. I mean this will naturally lead to him and clark spending time, or affecting clark in some way. I think the clever use of the chess game in this episode may portray the fact that lex is using lana as a pawn in his master plan. Even tho he loves her it doesnt stop him from using her!!

Good observations. I caught the chess allusion as well. And I think you're right that not knowing Clark's secret has taken over Lex's attentions - he doesn't care about rebuilding the friendship as he does finally learning the truth, and that seems just as important to him as his relationship with Lana. It's just *killing* him that he doesn't know Clark's secret, and now that he believes his father knows... Lex is heading down a dark, dark path and it's that original obsession that's really pushing him over the edge. Pretty cool, actually.

I agree...This entire thing that Lex is doing is a chess game... I still believe once he realizes Lana is not going to provide him with the info he wants or still has a semi-loyalty to Clark then he is going to discard her to the side (as she deserves for going to him in the first place)...and everything he is trying to pull of with Clark is just another move on his chess board...

BTW...his jealousy is starting to get to him...Now Lionel thinks Clark is a better son...That is really going to eat at Lex

i agree with much of this. but i think Lex only said what he said this episode out of guilt....more than wanting to be "best" friends with clark. not only guilt for him pursuing lana, but for what he has done before......but all that got kinda thrown outta the window when he saw the lionel conversation.

it IS like u said, a constant battle between what he wants to be (what his mother, BIG INFLUENCE, wants for him) and what he can't help but being.....lionel's son...
