Did anybody else notice in the first scene that Lionel was taking out a bottle of pills? I wonder what he's taking medicine for.

I saw that, I'm wondering if the pills are to help stay off whatever was happening to him at the end of the episode possiblely Jor-El or Zod or someone else taking over him.

Maybe it's to keep his liver in good shape. That probably isn't correct, because in Transference it was "cured", but what other medical problems does Lionel have. Maybe depression? He did try to kill himself once.

It could be ******, but I don't think Martha is that type of lady; it's too soon for her to be thinking about that!

i think he was writing something at the very last few seconds....but what was he writing? Was it some sort of Plea? Is Lionel not Lionel? IS Lionel trapped inside his own body? Has Jor-el never left since Lionel touched the crystal? So many questions...so little time...and so little amount of episodes left...

He rubbed his head like he had a headache just before got the bottle out so I would say it was a pain killer. Since bottle was white most likely Advil or something like it.

Here's what it is, mark my words:

The stone imprinted Jor-El on to Lionel's psyche. Lionel has inherited Jor-El's knowledge of everything including, Kal-El, Krypton and Brainiac (Fine) and even some of his emotions. As evident in the affectionate way he refers to Clark and calling him son.

But Lionel still is Lionel as well. That is, until Jor-El takes over the vessel when he needs to as seen in Hidden and at the end of Mercy when he makes Lionel write. Sort of like a schizophrenic.

And it seems that when Jor-El takes over it is painful for Lionel. Hence the migraine medication.

I'm agreeing with Spoon. Gotta hate the side effects of possession.

I'd say that it's very clear that Lionel is not the real Lionel, but is Jor-El playing with Clark thats why Lionel keeps calling him son. IT's so easy to figure out.

So you're saying that Jor-El also has the hots for Martha?

I'd say it's very clear that there is definitely a lot of Lionel in whatever being is the current Lionel.

Spoon - I think you have got it and its quite obvious in many ways. Also we must consider that the evil in Lionel may actually not like the presence of Jor-El inside him - so there is a constant internal struggle between the two characters.

He probably beat Jonathan, the Langs, Lara, and Ryan in afterlife poker, so he's going for his prize.

Looks like a parellel to when Jonathan was taking pills in the episodes right before he died.

The pills are probably a prescription at an ongoing failed attempt to relieve the affects of being the "VESSEL/ORACLE"!

So, in effect, the layers of meaning do tie in together!

Yes watcher4, it appears there is a parallel here!

The writers are going for the suspense factor of course.

Perhaps some brain medicine, there is a limit of what a human brain can handle and being overloaded with all Kryptonian knowledge doesn't help.

This may very well be true since those are the titles of the last 2 episodes of the season.
