View Full Version : Lionel Crying

Y'know, after all the discussions that we had several months back about Lionel simply trying to play and manipulate Martha and Clark, after Lionel (arguably him, at least) was told by Clark that he would never be trusted and to stay away from his mother or he'd kill Lionel, we saw a close-up of Lionel resisting the urge to cry...

I'd always thought that Lionel had had a big change of heart, but I was never sure, abd this was the deciding factor for me.

John Glover did an amazing job portraying the pain that obviously Lionel felt after the threat from Clark. You could tell that the character was shattered even by the look in Lionels eyes, and it... wow.

Jeez, I really hope that he doesn't die now.

Anyone else agree with me?

That made me cry! I don't want Lionel to die! :( So far, everyone that knows Clark's secret is either dead or moved away, unlike Chloe.

I felt so bad for Lionel in this episode. John Glover put in an absolutely amazing performance and I will be saddened if they ever do kill his character off.

Glover is the man. And his appearance on this show goes so well with his acting. His hair is wild and all over the place, he might be one of the best characters on television right now. If the writers give Glover a good script, he will deliver, and if they give him a bad script, he'll make it better.

Agreed.

Perhaps the reason he was so upset was because Lionel is actually Jor-el, and it hurt him to be rejected by his son so harshly.

I don't know. If he was Jor-El at the time, I'm sure he would have said so. I think if they kill Glover's character off, they would do a huge blunder for the show since he is solely their best actor now and his scenes with O'Toole, the best actress on the show, are phenomenal.

He did a great job on the puzzle game. But he had to say sorry to the killer. SO that Martha won't get hurt, but the killer lied to them by cut off the elevator wire.

This episode made John Glover and his character shine with flying colors.....great acting which made me believe it!!

Obviously, even a wicked man as Lionel Luthor is capable of demonstrating remorse/conviction for his misdeeds and yes wishing him to live for good is a plus.

I felt so sorry for him at the end. Sure, he destroyed the lives of hundreds of workers, tried to kill his own son a while and so forth, but to be told he can't pursue Martha... no man deserves that!

The question is: IS he really good? Or is he bad? Or in-between? Maybe bad but with good intentions? One thing that still sticks out in my mind that I wish they'd brought up in this episode was the fact that he supposedly ordered that girl's mother to be killed off in the episode "Vengeance". IF he really was behind it, then he's obviously still evil. But if he wasn't, then maybe not. What do you guys think on that one?

when lionel started crying...i seriously almost started crying. i couldn't believe that he actually cared about someone other than himself.

and something i didn't get...did he purposely try to kill himself to save martha or did he seriously know that it wouldn't shoot?

Lionel is an expert on knowing his enemies and playing the odds...he's shown that time and again

and based on that, I think he knew the bad guy wouldn't let him off so easily by allowing him to kill himself

he knew there was no bullet...

I think that since Lionel knows about Clark (and possibly Jor-el), he feels like he is part of something special, that it is his duty to see Clark fulfill his destiny. It seems like he is rooting for Clark and for Clark to be so harsh with him at the end, it really hurt his feelings. To have Lex be mean to him, it doesn't bother him that much. To have Clark do the same, guess having a genuinely good person do that must really tear a person up.

that is true ^ i also think that when he turned good, and then only turned into a baddy again after lex manipulated him, he still has some good in him. Before he was pure scum, but now it seems as if he's tryin a little to live a better life....with martha.

the luthor's love to have a go at the kent left-overs dont they? maybe he aint got good in him.... ;)
