*says in high pitched voice* "Maddie you can trust me. Maddie, let's color. Maddie, play with the doggie. Maddie, I know what it's like to have abilities. Maddie, do you like rides? I know a place called Neverland. It's pretty and magical, I promise. You can trust me, Maddie."
UGH! Is it just me, or was Clark acting like a child molester!!?? I mean, he kept looking at her like she was a chocolate bar or something! He wouldn't leave her alone!! And people are all like "Aw, Clark would be such a good father!" He was sp creepy the whole epi, and kept talking to her like she was 2.
And the drawing at the end had me cracking up, it was so corny. And I have a cold so when I laughed, I sounded like a broken lawnmower. And I know that was random but I didn't want to make a thread about it.....
SO did anyone else notice the Michael Jackson-ishness?

at first i was like "maddie must be clarks rebound girl"
he was acting child molesterish, but i guess i was one of the few who thought that.
now i can see that clark was just being nice and trying to get her to talk, but when i was seeing it i was like CLARK STOP HITTING ON HER!

I thought those scence were appropiate.
1. The girl hasn't talked since she was 3.
2. Clark's only trying to be a mentor, she has special powers, she was special powers.
3. He will soon be Superman, he cares for everyone, especially childern.
Good episode, not the best but solid.

I agree. Clark was in no way pedophilish, though he was dumb enough to leave Maddie with Lois.

Honestly, I didn't get that vibe...but I must say, when you say it like that, I can see where you are coming from. I would never think of Clark that way, so I thought he was def appropriate with her in every way an adult can be. Given her powers/his powers, the talking issue with her, I think he did the best a man could do in that situation.

You know, it's just a shame when we have so much weird news and so many weird people wandering around that simple kindness to a child gives off a child molester vibe. :\ We're all so jaded these days -- unfortunately for good reason.

Yeah, one of the reasons why I enjoyed this episode was because of how warm Clark was with Maddie and good with kids, which is a reflection on Superman in general. Clark will make a good father someday.
Lois on the other hand really looked hopeless around her and really kind of annoyed me. It's kind of a shame that Clark has to end up with her.

Clark was genuinely trying to help a scared little girl. It was not in any way shown as what you suggest. And he did a fantastic job of it. TW was great as Clark helping someone and coming from that same scared of what you can do, spot.

haha i agree... i would never had left the kid with lois!! she was already terrified of lois!! never mind being left alone with her! i dont think that clark was being michael jackson-ish. he was just trying to be nice to her and she loves him for it. when they were talking about who her real father is i thought she was gonna say "clark, can u be my daddy??" i was like o god. but she didnt pheww  haha he was an awesome father figure though!

he was just trying to help her out, he wanted to find out the truth about what happened with naomi and the only way he was going to do that was if he acted like that toward her. now at the one point when he said turn around and close your eyes i have a surprise for you, my mom was like "now if an adult says that run, unless its tom welling:)" but other than that part i just thought he was trying to be a nice guy toward maddie and i thought it was very cute:)
While I truly don't believe Clark stepped over the line to pervert child molester, I do have to say upon the second viewing a few of those lines of dialogue taken out of context are a bit questionable.  The whole saddling up bit and all made me snicker to myself. But again, I can take anything out of context and make it sick for the sake of humor.

Clark was being friendly and nurturing to a child in need!!
He wasn't being overly physical with her. He wasn't being overly affectionate!
HE was being nurturing.

yeah he was being nurturing, if lois had the same lines, maybe the impression would have been different. Is a guy expected to act tough, not care and never cry? he was going the extra mile to help a girl who was orphaned and just saw her foster mom get killed.

As a mom of 2 little girls I can say that as a parent you are more sensitive to any touchy feely that goes on with kids. I thought there was way too much hugging going on . I've already joked about this in other threads.
NOT that I got any pediphile vibe what so ever with Clark (ewh)*my blood just ran cold at the thought*. Rather, when the same characters hug in no less then 3 scenes you get desensitized to the emotion that is suppose to come across. It was just overdone too many times and it lost it's specialness. The same shot just got boring IMHO.:\
tjpw fanatic
04-14-2006, 02:43 PM
i thought it was cute! I thought Clark was acting like a big brother to her, i hug my brother all the time, and that's just how i took it. Being a 13 year old girl i am also sensitive to that kind of stuff because there is always that fear of pedifhiles. However I did not think of this episode that way at all!
moe2death
04-14-2006, 02:46 PM
i agree with tjpw fanatic even tho people in my family we hardly ever hug and im the youngest one in my family so i dont got a little bro or sister to hug :(
tjpw fanatic
04-14-2006, 02:49 PM
yeah I am the youngest too, but my older sister and brother hug me, so i find that the Clark/Maddie hugs were normal. No one said anything when Clark hugged Ryan in the episode Ryan! there was no OMG pedophile!!!! so I'm not really sure what these people are talking about

04-14-2006, 02:51 PM
Wow, this thread is for real? We are a jaded society.... :( We saw in Clark last night a perfect example of the role model he's going to become through Superman: kind, caring, gentle, trusting, and not willing to give up on someone. Clark embodies all of these characteristics when dealing with Maddie. While I question his decision to leave her with Lois, what went through my mind during those scenes were those "father/son" talks Clark and Jonathan had in the earlier seasons. Clark WILL make an excellent father someday... you saw that notion in Martha's face!

Oh shoot, I said "invading her space" watch these posters read into that one.

When I read the title of the thread, I actually thought people were serious, and that just isn't cool (not if it's meant in a joking manner, because it's a serious offense). Yes, there was a bit of hugging and comforting words, but it wasn't like Clark was trying to "keep" her or do anything to her. He just wanted her to be happy. There is nothing pedophile-ish about that.

Hahahhaa... well after being away for the past 5 days (and forgetting all about this thread), I think it's really funny how I've been called sexist, a moron, a sicko, an idiot, I"ve been told to shut my mouth, I've been told I like little boys and girls, I've been told I think Clark is a pedophile, it's all making me crack up. :D :D :D I think it's hilarious how people take it so seriously when I'm obviously joking around, and call it a serious matter to be joking around with.
If no one got my sarcasm waaaaay back at the first post, I'm sorry. Does anyone here really believe I seriously think Clark was trying to molest her???!! That's disgusting. I was just remarking how he seemed waaaaay too friendly with her, especialy seeing how she was supposed to be 11. I would have no problems with it, not that I have any problems now, if the girl was younger, but you don't talk to a 11 year old like that! I just felt like he was acting as if she was a 5 year old who knew nothing. And the way he kept talking to her with that weird voice and how he was being really really really really really nice to her reminded me of Michael Jackson. That's my 2 cents!
Smallville is fun
04-18-2006, 02:25 PM
I totally noticed the child molestor thing. Maybe he was just trying to be friendly...I mean, the girl hasn't talked since she was 3 and Clark also doesn't have a lot of experience with kids. But I was getting a little pedophile vibe....I dunno, I'm glad it wasn't just me lol.

It's very hard to direct yourself. Even veteran actors have a hard time doing it -- as they themselves have said. I'm just saying, that may be why people thought it was overplayed. I had no problem with it, personally.

Agree! Not everyone that is nice to kids is a perv! It's a sad day when showing interest in a child's welfare and being loving to them is a sign of perversion! I think he did exactly what was appropriate in this case. She was afraid and Clark understood! More men need to be involved in the lives of children without it being a dirty thing like MJ made it. There were bells and whistles ringing and people ignored the warnings with him. Sure there are sicko's out there but not everyone who loves kids is one!
