View Full Version : Anyone else think Clark was a breath of fresh air this episode?

Aside from his comment about Jor-EL, was anyone else happy to see a confident, wise Clark this episode rather than the usual deer in headlights we normally get? I thought his comments to Maddie and overall demenor in the show were a nice change from him flipping out about Lana. I also thought his reaction to Chloe's comment at the end of the show was better played than usual. He seemed resigned with the knowledge that Chloe knew something but either wasn't comfortable telling him or that she didn't think it was her place.

I thought that Chloe did over-react a bit to Clark's question about Lana, but she's tired of playing pig-in-the-middle between them and perhaps Lex's comments got to her. Clark obviously needs to grow up a bit more and resume his friendship with Lana, but that's going to be difficult considering Lex and I suspect the rest of the season will play out that way.

I agree. Clark's interaction with Maddie was the highlight of this episode for me, and it's always great to see Clark doing something other than pine for Lana or beat himself up for doing something foolish. Although, it seems silly to me that he hasn't told Martha that Lionel knows his secret. It's not like Martha's senatorial duties are going away any time soon, so now seems to be as good a time as any to get that in the open.

When the girl picked up the picture of Lana and asked Clark if she was his girlfriend, I loved the way he handled it.

He didn't get that usual heartbreaking look on his face, or end up going on and on about it.

He kept his mind focused on the situation at hand, that's our Superman :)

Clark was great in this episode. I know that it's really just a rehash of Stray, but I still enjoyed his scenes with Maddie. He was really likable and supermanly with her. And he's been dealing with the breakup in a very mature way too (please god let it last!) Like in Void instead of brooding over Lana he became proactive in trying to find Fine. And in this episode he was in proactive in trying to help Maddie. I was also glad that he didn't start brooding over Lana's picture in that loft scene.

He absolutely was a breath of fresh air in this episode. And it was darned nice to see him smile and not swallowed up by misery. I loved how he was totally focused on helping this little girl. I just loved the maturity and compassion he exuded in this episode. Was it a coincidence that this was the Clark TW directed himself to play?

That's what I was thinking. Tom had the freedom to depict the character they way he wanted to and it was refreshing change.

Clark was written so great in "Fragile". His demeanor, attitude and willingness to help Maddie WAS Superman. Perfect. You're going in the right direction, now keep going that way.

On an unrelated side note, a little bit of Tom's beard is starting to grow back. :D

Yes all the scenes of Clark with Maddie were refreshing as we saw the tender caring side of the future "Man of Steel"!

He was good and that's a great point; I've always thought Clark was too broody and certainly too mopey over Lana. Apparently TW agrees. This is what we should have seen long ago. Enough with the moping crap!

As for Chloe, I think she should have let him see what Lana's really like a long time ago. SHe has shielded Clark from seeing Lana's deceit and unfaithfulness too long. It would help Clark get over her more quickly had she let him see what she really is long before now. I really long to hear something like this: "Yes, Clark, Lana ran to Lex the minute you broke up with her. And she yelled at me for suggesting she and Lex were an item even though it's obvious. And yes she does have a very short memory since she and Lex have forgotten I saved them from dying only last week. Yes, Clark; you have a short memory, too, to forget how many times she's yelled at you when she didn't get her way even though you've saved her too many times to count. Now get over it and don't ask me again!"

But TW did a fantastic job with a not so stellar script both in acting and directing. He was so cute with the little girl.

I completely agree.

This episode was a bit of a yawner...but it was SO nice to see Clark focus is attention on something as important as helping this little girl. The scenes were...cute.

Honestly, I'd like to see more episodes with Clark standing up and focusing on the issue at hand like he did in this one, even in the non-filler arena. I think his character needs to shift in that direction.

Honestly, I know this is very Ryan-like, but in general, this episode had a Season 1 feel to it.

I thought he was too much like a dad...he should have been like a big brother, similar to Ryan's situation.

Too bad that the actors actually are growing older. He really did look like he could play a dad of a 10-11 year old even if he was supposed to be 18/19 years old.
