I know Clark didn't tell her himself, but he showed enough proof of his powers. First was when he told her to turn around and he "magically" stacked the hay. Then, he threw her father like freakin' 50 ft in the air. Next, he used his heat ray vision when she was right behind him. I'm surprised she wasn't shocked from his powers.

Just from the fact that she's not the only one with powers. Maybe that's why she had such a big crush on Clark.
I'm not certain she was in Clarks immediate vicinity when he used heat vision, especially since one would assume that Martha would make sure she was not there and in danger as Clark deals with her father. I assumed Martha left, and Maddie then entered.
I'm also not convinced Maddie saw Clark throw her father. She ran away and was looking away, so she wouldn't know exactly what happened.
Even the haystack scene could seen as just a puzzled Maddie. I'd say Maddie know's Clark has some sort of extra abilities, but the extent of which is still beyond her knowledge.

I thought that the whole thing about Maddie turning around in the Talon was that she heard the glass shatter and thought that her dad had hurt Clark. Then she turns back around and sees he's alright, and that's why she looks all relieved.
The only thing that she could really be suspicious about is the haystack, and she might have just thought it was some kind of trick.

Lana will know....TPTB just love for the audience to keep tuning in to see when she will FINALLY find out the truth. It's just a small factor that we don't really notice. Deep down, everybody is wondering when she will find out.

Maddie developed a trust in Clark as he related to her....her abilities and other needs of an 11 year old. This before Clark demonstrated his powers "openly at those crucial moments"!
Maddie clearly developed not only trust but love for Clark as her friend. And that love can never "betray" even secrets.

Hello there! Lana got the knowledge of his powers erased and that's it. Why would anyone want her or anybody else to just learn anyway? Besides, if she did it would be more proof of her real nature; selfish and unaccepting of anyone who's different unless they let her control everything. Don't think for a minute she'd really accept Clark; that was all retconning of her entire history on this show and later when she ran to Lex after Clark didn't tell her what was going on was proof of that.
But back to the ep we're discussing. I wondered, too if Maddie had run from the barn or had stayed or peeked to see Clark in action. I kinda think Clark would have had a talk with her specifically about it if she had but it wasn't exactly clear.

All about Clark

Maddie was never watching when Clark used his powers, she does not know about them. She had her back turned for the hay scene and throwing the father scene, she wouldn't be able to see his heat vision, that's for us, and since the glass never hit him in the confrontation there was nothing for her to see.

I'm still trying tofigure out how heat vision sends objects flying thorugh the air, and can be used as a means of deflecting projectiles. It can be used to melt them, sure, but how does pure heat energy, cause objects to fly about randomly. It's not a concussive force.
Perhaps the hot air meeting cool air creates a wind? Eh, I dunno.

Dr Fine has something like it. Notice when they are fighting in th FOS when Dr. Fine uses his "heat vision" clarks clothes are not burned so I am assuming its a force beam not heat vision.

Let's try and simplify this.
Heat generates waves....as we see on a hot summer day waves of heat radiate and shimmer off a pavement.
Those same waves can be generated and "compressed" into energy and since heat usually is accompanied by light because we know light is made up of two parts "particles and energy".
Clark can emit and focus from the retinas of his eyes that same "compressed" heat energy of particles and waves in a controlled focused burst or as we have seen in Draculana's case in 'Thirst' after biting Clark can incinerate Buffy the Sorority Queen!
