Has anyone every been to one of these? I am going to my first one in NC this May. I was wondering what to expect.
Costumes. Lots of Costumes!
Are you going to cosplay? Its a whole bunch of fun.
First of all, Walking into an anime convention is a very strange experience. You turn around and you see HArley Quinn, Baba Yaga and Naru Narusagiwa talking to Mario and Luigi and perhaps a Transformer or two. Oh yeah, there are Tons of costumes.
The dealers room are going to have everything imaginable, Name something to do with anime and they'll have it. But here's a hint. Unless its something rare, wait till the last day to buy it. By then shops are usually closing down and you can haggle a good price.
My advice, Don't eat lunch at the convention. Do you have a car? Food prices at the convention are always expensive, most hotels and convetnion centers have places to eat. Or perhaps you can take a sandwich or something. I've taken Chef Boy'R'Dee's and gotten one of the Con atendees to microwave it for me.
Other then that just go and enjoy yourself. There are tons of games, tons of panels, and tons of anime. Just have fun!

Wow. It sounds cool. I had not plained on cosplaying. I mean I don't know how to make a costume or anything, so I will just go as myself more than likely. Thanks for all the info. I am sure it will be helpful.
So give us an update, Supagyrl. How was the convention? Have fun?

I didn't get to go. Believe it or not I actually got the flu the week I was supposed to go. Talk about rotten timing. Maybe next year. I don't think there are any other ones close by where I live until then.

Ill be going to AnimeFest during Labor Day weekend next. I wish I had the time and money to just go to all the cons.
I go to the Anime cons all the freaking time!
I just love them, there's such a good vibe and freakyness. I once cosplayed myself as Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil series, it was a blast.
There's so much to purchase and I enjoy taking pictures of the cosplayers...
Too bad you didn't go :(
