Who else thought it would have been better to end the episode with the scene of Lionel walking out the door saying "Goodnigh..Clark." than another crappy Clark/Lana moment?

i thought this ending was pretty abrupt and choppy, but this is something ive noticed in most of the recent episodes.
the scene with lionel would have been a better episode closer, but the trend as of late has been to end each show with something that forshadows the next. in this case, it is that (SPOILER) lana will hook up with lex

Nah, good night Kal-El would have been better.

I did not expect "Goodnight Kal-El" , but that is what I took from the promo for next week. Does Lionel call Clark , Kal-El next week? I am in , too bad I have to wait 7 days. Damn you space-time continum!

when the show ended i was just like   HUH?!?!?!?!?
i couldn't believe that that's how they ended the show.
maybe a "I will be happy Clark." and then when he left she would have added a "maybe someday you'll let me" or something like that.
i'm just very confused bout the ending..

I tohught the episode would of had a better feeling of suspense if it had ended with The Martha/Clark/Lionel scene.

I'm tossed on that one. Either would have worked. It was nice to see Clark showing Lana a caring concern still. I guess a Lionel ending would have been more of a cliff hanger though...

The ending was too abrupt...I had ok, now what feeling. Thought it would of been better with either ending the episode with Chloe and Clark moment or Lionel saying Goodnight Clark.

That's exactly what I thought. We were having all this emotion from seeing JK (Hi John thanks for signing my script!)... Then we're waiting for Clark to tell Martha, you see the conflict on Clark's face (a bit confused), then Lionel delivering the line. I like it when they leave us with that "I want more" feeling.

I liked the end. It showed us that Clana is really over.

if they had ended it with lionel, everyone would have been complaining that they just did that with cyborg. My ideal ending would have been with clark and chloe, although that conversation with lana did need to take place
It would have been fine if Lana didn't act like a moron to Clark. I mean, honestly, the girl is emotionally stunted (AKA: the Holly Harold disease)

I really thought at the end after Clark left we'd see Lana take out something showing that she was researching him behind his back or something like that. I was so annoyed when it showed it just fading out on her face. I was like, "is this it?" It would have been far, far better to have ended on the MB.

I thought the scene was necessary, because it would've been out of character for Clark not to check up on Lana. But it shouldn't have been the ending, and I thought Lana's dialogue was very odd. Clark's was fine. I would've ended it with Lionel's "good night...Clark". It just had more dramatic punch.

typically the endings of episodes focus on what they most want the viewers to get out it. I'm guessing they just want how screwed up lana is to ressonate with us until next week

Mmhmm. Dunno why she always gets Lana-centric stuff.

yea i agree the lionel scene would have been better then the lana and clark scene. The way it ended seemed badly edited and all that lana should have said something when he left cause u noticed the pause and noise in the room then it went to black.

YES. In fact, I thought that the episode was going to end with the Lionel/Clark scene.

I agree
Yeh i dont want them to play out lionel too much, cyborg ending was perfect. They should have ended it with clark and chloe talking about how lionel may be playing all of them.

That also would have been another great ending. The drama (for me at least) is in the Lionel storyline and how that will affect the relationship between Lex and Clark. Now I understand that this is the WB we're talking about and they're trying to cater to the fans that want the teen soap drama...But this show has had some major opportunities with storylines and hasn't taken them. Or they've taken a backseat to the Lana Clark rollercoaster. It's really time to flesh out the characters and get back on track with the Superman Mythos.

I have to agree the Chloe/Clark scene should have been last. Because the Martha/Clark/Lionel scene needed to come right after the Jk/Clark scene. And Lana/Clark scene should have been in the middle.

I dont like how lana said "I will be" after clark said I just want you to be happy.. It was to mean .. I mean here he is trying to be nice after she gets him killed.. Seeing how she is doing just saying I want you to be happy and then she is just mean.. Thats mess up .. She should have realized hmmm maybe he still does care because if he didn't he wouldn't care wheather or not I was happy or ok//

yeah I kind of agree with you, heavens_cry...I mean I don't necessarily think she meant it that way but it did come off that way...

I think Lana was reassuring herself. That's how it came off to me. Trying to give herself some encouragement after going down such a bad road.

I am not trying to be mean, but she kind of put her self in all the places to get hurt.. Now with lex she will probably just get hurt again.. If she is trying to tell her self she will be ok well fine, but she shouldn't act like she will never get hurt again.. Besides Clark wasn't the first one to hurt her, but yet she takes everything out on him.. even the stuff he never did to her..

I agree she puts herself in bad positions. But I don't think she was taking out anything on Clark in the last scene. So I guess people just see Lana differently. Big surprise.

The no music thing was weird...how it ended was okay, i guess...although I've never really been much for Clana endings. It's something I've learned to deal with since it happens in, like, every episode!

I actually liked this one since they both acted like adults. I thought it was better without music since it was a serious moment and the silence shows that both of them are very down about the breakup. It shows the awkward silence that now exists between them when they talk.
