Lex's mom?! She's in this ep? Weird! I really can't wait for this to air over here, so far the ep sounds fantastic!

She's not a freak! She's trying to save him! :\ His actions are breaking her heart, even beyond the grave. A mother's love is infinate, and she's devastated to see him make the wrong choices. It's further proof of the tragedy of Lex's character. :(

Although I will say she was a little intense this time around. I thought she was going to suck on his ear for a second...

But YAY! I was so excited when I saw her name on the opening credits! :D

Agreed! At first I thought she was going to be evil or more like Lionel but then I relized she was agry that Lex choose the wrong thing and will become that moster Lionel always wanted him to be.

She was a bit freaky, seductive, almost.

>_>; Well, she seemed a bit... psycho. But, really, what with smothering Julian, she must have been at least a little bit crazy.

i got that vibe to but i think she was just being very intense and showing her disapointment and disdain towards her son. she almost seemed disgusted because he made the wrong choices.

does anyone know what the black glove means according to superman mythos though?

It's the black glove that was in Hourglass!

He has to wear it because of what the kryptonite ring he will eventually wear to keep supes away will do to his hand. :D

In the comics Lex loses his hand because he gets cancer from a kryptonite ring that he wears. Thus, the black glove. It was also in Hourglass too. The Lex/Lillian scene was really awesome and caught me totally by surprise because I was not expecting Lex to see his dead parent too.

Lillian is hands down my fave guest star and I literally squealed when I saw her name on the opening credits!! I think she is such an important part of Lex's character--I can't get enough of those scenes with her and him.

Thanks for explaining...I didn't know what the glove meant either.

Yeah I didn't think Lex would get sent to the other side too....Maybe it was just me or the dress she was wearing, but didn't Lex's mom seem a lot younger in this episode?

honestly, i think how she acted was reasonable. I mean if you consider what she knows he's destined to do, i think she was spot on with how she talked to him and treated him. Whats more insane is that he no longer cares what she thinks, thats whats freaky

Lillian was a..bad word that rhymes with "witch"... I dont know what i expected but if thats how she acted in her life no wonder Lex is so screwed up :p

of course she was really angry with Lex, but i thought she would have been more sad that he didnt choose her path.

I agree SlickBlonde; She was also trying to one last time to save Lex and the rest of the world from him.

Best seeing the other side scene of the episode

I don't know... I know his mom was mad, but i still think the scene was done wrong as far as her character. First of all, the dress seemed weird... too form fitting and short compared to how she has been portrayed, I don't think she would have worn that. Second, she was acting all wrong. The first words out of my mouth were "She's acting really weird." From what I have gathered about her character, she would have been more sad and disappointed. I think with how Lex feels about her, she would have tried to appeal more to his love for her than to scare him with threats and anger. I am not saying it would have worked, but I think that is the route this character would have taken.

I got a really weird vibe from Lillian towards Lex. The way she was acting around him was sort of slinky and angry and almost seductive. And ugh, I can't believe my mind just went there.:p:p:p

i dunno perhaps her psychological structure while she was a live played a part in it. but i liked what they did with her and i understood her disgust with him. The point may have been that there was no loving side of lex left to play to, and know one knows that better than her. I think her reaction to him was designed to say much more about him and what he has and will become. She was talking to an evil, slithering man, and thats how she approached him. I didn't get any sexual or seducitve vibe from it

Well it was sort of an askewed scene--sort of dead but not quite, ya know? I mean you know how dreams are--sort of off in a sense. I think they were trying to give that idea with her dress and all.

She certainly was giving a freaky sort of vibe that was--dare I say it--feeding into the whole Oedipal thing Lex has going--but the general theme of her dialogue was on key.

Perhaps his 'dream--near death experience-what have you' was a little more intense than Clark or Lana's because with his choices thus far he is on a harsher path--and his pergatory as it were is skewing more towards hell than heaven--so it would have some sort of sin in even his delusion...

Did any of that make sense?

Yeah, actually, it did!

Heh, oedipal or not that was an awesome scene. Sort of had a creepy and surreal feel to it, with Lillian so creepy and elegant and snarky. I hope we get to see more of her.

Oooohh! I hadn't thought of it in that since. That hell thing is probably exactly what they were getting at. Especially since at times they were giving her voice sort of demonic overtones

i thought the scene was good. It has flaws but alot of good parts. I liked the glove thing nice connection to the comics, and early seasons and all that. I understand where she was coming from she was pissed off he decided to take the wrong choice and his life path is going down the dark and painful path she does not want that life for him.

She tried appealing to his love in Lexmas, it didn't work. That might be the last time she might be able to see him (I hope it's not) so she was trying another way.

I got the same vibe, too! I think it was deliberate---the writers wanted us to see this sort of messed-up woman who, in life, had a strange relationship with her husband and kids.

I couldn't tell if she was trying to seduce Lex to the dark side or keep him away from it; it was like she was doing both. She was telling him that he was going to eventually do bad things, and yet it seemed tantalizing to her. It was cool because it was so bizarre.

Notice that she wanted Lex dead and with her, while Papa Kent wanted his son to go back to life. Interesting.

(Oh, by the way, I can't remember, did Lillian kill herself? I can't remember which ep. they mention this in.)

Agreed. I think she was furious, and deeply disappointed in Lex. Perfect counterpoint to Clark's experience. Lex confronts the person he loves most in the world and she rejects the person he's becoming. Clark confronts the person he loves most (arguably) and Jonathan is so proud of the person he's becoming.

Classic Smallville.
